This winery was chosen for the start of my tour of 4-5 Paso Robles wineries, not necessarily for its wines, but especially for its spectacular hilltop view of the surrounding valleys. As a bed and breakfast, too, this winery offered a nice Viognier that I picked up for my neighbor as well as some blended reds whose varietal names escape my wine-muddled memory. The tasting host was a cheery guy who informed us that his wine club was a mob-themed club sporting fedoras and a life time of dedication lest they be excused closed-coffin style. This place has a B&B and that is what this review is for. We only stayed one night in the Tuscany room. It is very large. The bathroom is even larger. Huge walk in shower, two sinks, a claw foot tub. A room for the toilet. The room has a fireplace and flat screen TV, a large closet room. Room is upstairs. There are three rooms for the place. We stayed during the big state fair in town and I believe the people in both of the other rooms went to the fair. I did get a bit scared when the couple down stairs was coming home at 3am. Their door is outside but it sound like some one was breaking in. Stayed in July and was grateful for the ceiling fan and the fact that it does cool down at night. We were able to open windows and turn on the ceiling fan to cool down the room. Paso Robles get very warm in the summer. 100 both days we were there. A bit outside of town but nothing too far to make it not worth it. Breakfast in the morning was nice. Standard breakfast. Not your typical sit down let me serve you B&B breakfast. More here is a buffet help yourself. Can sit inside or out on their porch. Glad we got to experience the place. A bit shocked at the cost of a glass of wine ($10) when staying at the place but they have a right to charge what they want. read more

Villa Nel Mondo will always be our go-to Paso Robles place to stay and you should make it yours as well. It's on a beautiful piece of hilltop land with (as the other reviews state) spectacular views. Mitch is a wonderful manager/owner/friend every time we're there, if you ever need recommendations on dinner or things to do around town he'll always have a great suggestion. I particularly enjoy the house dogs, especially Deebo. Always look forward to the smell of bacon wafting up through the wonderful Tuscany room. Can't wait to return! read more

(visited late Sunday, last day of the Wine Harvest Festival, mid October 2008) Mondo Cellars, a.k.a. Villa nel Mondo, is a charming bed & breakfast Northwest of Paso. As a B&B, I don't recall a more romantic stop on my admittedly wine-focused trip in October of 2008. While I didn't stay there, I can very easily imagine myself lounging on their patio sipping some of their wonderful wines, admiring the view of the canyon below, possibly on a vacation or even honeymoon. During my admittedly brief experience there, I had the impression of a location that had the feel of getting away from it all while still being close enough to town and some of Paso's top wineries that it would never feel remote. The staff was very friendly and the interior of the home was modern and attractive. As for the wines, there were only five wines to taste, but at no cost. These are all blends of one sort or another, and while nothing was earth shattering, all were decent and their 05 "La Rocca" GSM and the 06 "Razzo Red" were very good. The latter was a zin and petite sirah blend with plenty of power. Mondo is typically open a little later than many stops near Paso, so if you are heading back to town from the Adelaida area wineries, take the scenic route along Chimney Rock Road on your way out, and make this your last stop of the day on the way back to town, or to stay. As a wine stop, I don't particularly see myself returning, but if I was ever in need of B&B or was passing by, I would definitely keep it in mind. read more

This tasting room is beautifully situated on a hilltop with great views. Probably one of the top 3 views in Paso Robles. Our tasting was late in the afternoon on the same day of their Halloween party. This was unfortunate because, we felt a bit rushed through our tasting as thy wanted to close the tasting room and get to the party. That being said, the staff was in no way rude or unacomodating, they were in fact quite friendly. We chose to skip the whites an go directly to reds. Most of their wines (at least the reds) are blends with Italian themed or mob themed names. For me, nothing particularly stood out, at least not enough for me to buy. The positives are the tasting fee is inexpensive ($5) and their wine is moderately priced. Definitely worth a visit just because of the view. For me there are better wines in the Paso region. read more

This view is actually Breath Taking and so far the best in Paso Robles! I recommend that you bring your own lunch here and just sit back and enjoy the view with your family/Friends. The owner and service is great. Now the wine is a different story and just crushes me. I so want to love it but it's not happening. It's kind of plain and doesn't give me good texture/flavor. It is very peculiar that this organization includes Cellars in their name. When we visited, we followed a sign that pointed to their "winery." What we found was a garage with a putting green outside. Mondo Cellars is a virtual winery. After this confusion, I decided to do some research and found they lack a vineyard, cellar, and even a wine maker. They literally buy bulk wine and label it. This review gets 3 stars off of the services they actually provide. The dinner here is wonderful, and the view is also very nice. I have as well heard positive comments on the rooms here. Good food and accommodations. The wine, however, is very average. This can be expected when you are a virtual business on a get rich quick scheme. read more

The sheer experience of encapsulating the lovely views as well as the personable service provided to me by the owners, made my visit to Mondo Cellar a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life in the city. Located in Paso Robles on the Central Coast, Mondo definitely has a very European charm on the exterior that would cater to those individuals looking for a nice idea for a staycation. Included at the winery is a bed and breakfast, which got me thinking the need I have to make an overnight trip a worthwhile venture next time I'm in town. Now, I don't have much experience in regards to wines; in fact, I'm quite the novice since my lack in winery education is simply limited to only consider something sweet as something better. That said, the samples available for my compadres and myself were nice diversion of flavorful situations that once I tasted a few glasses, put me in a position to bring home a bottle myself. I don't think I'd crack it open, as I consider it more like a souvenir of my trip. Still, knowing the particular bottle I got was good, I might be tempted to do so sooner than later. Great stay in a fantastic place. My wife and I had stayed at B&Bs that were nice but felt like visiting your grandparents lace covered home. This place is nothing like that. The Tuscany room is huge and tastefully decorated. Our room had a massive bed, full sized bathtub and his and hers sinks. The owners Doug and Mitch are both really laid back and friendly. They give you the run of the place and definitely made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area. read more

I stayed here while attending a baseball benefit party. The grounds are beautiful. I can totally see people having weddings here. We stayed in the Naples suite. The room itself was just ok. The toilet kept running, the TV only had one channel and it was an adult cartoon channel. I really didn't like the fact there was no food available to snack on after the party was over at about 10:00am. No soda machine or snack machine either. I felt like I was stranded at that place. The staff was very friendly and had morning breakfast ready when we went to go check out. I would not return again, it did not thrill me that much. read more

I have to say, it's been a while since I last sampled my way into gentle insobriety. Damn, how much fun it is too! Mondo has a stunning view of the Paso Robles area. Complimentary wine tastings without any problem about retasting options if you want to try one again. All of the wines we tasted were blends. I have to admit, I loved the Facets Roulx - a white wine (my red wine drinking genes shudder) that has an explosion of pineapple. Something to enjoy on a summers day. read more

Had no intention of wine tasting here, as I was there for the b&b. To my surprise, they had couple of tasty wines, that I really enjoyed! The b&b was exceptional, as was the breakfast that was served up! The view from the b&b is very scenic, and they have a little over a mile walking trail around part of the property. Set away back from the road, and on top of a hill, the views are really nice! The room we stayed, was like staying at a nicely decorated home, with old style bath tub, and a separate huge shower that even had a view. The room was quite large with views of three sides of the property. I would have expected to pay a lot more than I did to stay there! This is one of the least expensive b&b's I could find, and much nicer than most of the hotels and other b&b's in the area. The room has a flat screen tv, fire place, and a comfortable, not broken down bed. It's family run, and the Inn manager was extremely friendly and helpful and almost felt like family. He made breakfast for us each morning, which is way better than any diner I found in town! Overall, I had a great experience, and will stay here next time I visit! read more

Can't believe it's taken me so long to review mondo! The wine is fantastic and I am a wino snob that has been to many different wine regions to sample wine varieties. Their wines taste like the $100 napa wine blends without the snobiness that comes with it. My husband and I actually got married here last December and for the price, flexibility of the owners, amazing views and wine it was our dream wedding come true. The B & B is top notch. Stay in the Tuscan room, you will be so happy you did with the marble floors and claw foot soaker tub, it's an experience all in its own. Every time my husband come to pick up our wine shipment the owners remember us and treat us like family. And they get extra points for being super dog friendly! read more

Mondo was recommended by another winery as they have live music and dining on Friday nights. It's a bit out of the way; but the views are amazing! They are planning to have more events and spruce up the place even more! It was already really nice. We were there for the food which totally worked for dinner. Since we hadn't been there before we went back inside for tasting. Found a wine that we liked and ordered a bottle to go with the food. We ordered the chicken cordon bleu which I haven't had in a long time. Came with rice and asparagus. It was a little cold when it came, so I wonder if they had them pre-dished. Overall it was tasty. Our server was really cute and super nice. In any case, the guitarist and singer were great! Singing classic rock songs and a lot of Led Zeppelin! The two of them almost looked like Plant and Page, LOL! Their "motto" is the mob and fedoras are the thing to wear! Too bad I don't have one and the ones they were selling didn't excite me. We loved The BO$$ and ended up taking home a bottle of the Bacio. Service - Rod is great. He took the time to tell us about the vineyard and winery and was very friendly. Ambiance/Location - AMAZING 360 degree view, cozy patio with comfortable seating and umbrellas if desired. One of the neatest wineries around. We stayed at Villa Nel Mondo's bed and breakfast this past weekend and had the time of our lives! The owners Doug and Mitch were welcoming and laid back. They encouraged us to treat the beautiful home as if it were our own. We stayed in the Tuscany suite. It was well maintained and included luxuries such as a king bed, fireplace, claw foot tub, designer shower and an abundance of windows showcasing the breathtaking views. We were given a key to our room, which also unlocked the side entrance of the house. When the owners closed up shop we were left alone for the night (along with a sweet old yellow lab named Roxy!) We spent our time sharing a bottle of wine under the stars. I would highly recommend this romantic b&b to other couples or anyone looking for a relaxing retreat. read more

The view from tasting room was spectacular. The building looked great from the outside. but we have no idea what it was like inside. It was closed because they had run out of wine! Fair enough. It could happen to anyone. But the reason I'm knocking them for two stars is because they didn't tell us they were closed until we had driven all the way up their bumpy road all the way to the top of the hill. Mondo Cellars has to have one of the most amazing views of any winery in the area. At the very top of a hill, outdoor tastings (no fee!) in a bar/restaurant setting, a really fantastic setup. Great wines, a little pricey but within reason. We picked up a bottle of The Trunk and wished we bought several more by the time we got home and polished it off. As a new Paso Robles local (for the last year), we've been exploring the wineries in our neighborhood. Mondo is a new favorite. This place is just fun, and so are the people pouring the glasses. They have an Italian mob theme for their wine with names like "the boss" and "the mistress". And let me tell you, this is high quality stuff with incredible flavors. Our entire group was very impressed. We wanted to take "The Mistress" home with us because she was so unique. Amazing little spot with incredible views off the beaten path in Paso Robles. The two brothers that own and operate the winery and adjoining B&B have created an unpretentious wine tasting heaven. When somebody in our group asked one of the brothers which if his wines taste the best his reply "There's three tastes for wine: uugggghhhh, ehhh, and wow! Everyone's taste buds are different but every wine will get all three responses!" But don't let their humor fool you, these guys are serious and their wine are top notch. If you can swing the cost, definately stay at the bed and breakfast as well. read more

Came back to stay at the B&B this week after trying to get in a few times. This is where we like to be. Out, away from the city with the mot stunning views. The host Doug and Mitch were very accommodating in every way to make it a great experience. Mitch beat us up both morning and had the coffee going so we could sit outside and enjoy the hilltop views. They were very courteous with their dogs keeping them away from the guests but we soon got attached to them, my wife even whispered about taking one up to sleep with us(Roxy) but we were assured she had her own bed and to not fall for those big eyes. The property is very large and has some nice areas to walk around. Breakfast was nice as we sat on the patio and enjoyed talking with the other guests. This is our second trip here and we look forward to the next time. read more

My husband and I were here with friends,everyone was staying in town at Motel 6. We were late to the game in looking for accommodations so we looked at B&Bs and came across Villa nel Mondo. What a fantastic place. We stayed in Naples, nice suite with a private entry. Rod the innkeeper is awesome,he makes a great breakfast and has awesome energy,you feel like you have known him forever. Additionally the place is ran by the family and it feels so comfortable. Great Friday happy hour with music on Friday nights. Great views, great prices,great wine,great food,great people, how can you go wrong...we will be back...several times...tried to book theB&B for the Harvest Festival...but already booked because this place is a gem. read more
