I especially love their black bean and veggie soups. Ends up being about $3 dollars a container and you get ~2 servings of soup. Cheaper than Cambell's! While I don't live in Batesville, I work in Batesville, so I take pride in supporting a really wonderful local business like this one. Their price point is slightly higher than if you were to purchase meat at Kroger, but I look at that price increase as an investment in local business and quality product. I bought stuffed pork chops, steaks, smoked Polish sausage and Italian sausage. I was glad I brought a cooler with me. The staff was super friendly and packaged my purchases up for travel. I had the pork chops for dinner and they were delicious. I also picked up Easter candy and a few staples that I needed. I saw locally produced honey and Amish made egg noodles. Prices are reasonable. There is plenty of parking in their private lot. No public restrooms are available.

Lots of jarred pickle and preserve products to tempt your taste buds and all from small regional producers. In summer there's a fair amount of farm produce but nowhere near what you'd find at a farmers market. They have lovely seasonal potted flowers and of course the sturdy, handmade, bank-breaking Amish outdoor furniture. They sell a lot of things like frozen vegetables, baking mixes, spices, candy (huge amounts of candy), chocolate melts, in small bags with their own label. Unfortunately this stuff seems to be bought from big wholesalers. I have seen giant Sysco and GFS trucks in the lot. They use a weird dating system on these bagged goods- just a number where 15 would be January 15 and 360 would be December 26; get it? But you have no way of knowing if that means this year. Or last year, ick. So it's a mixed bag here. Not everything is going to be local or GMO-free. Look carefully before you buy.

I ended up leaving the market with green beans, corn on the cob, zucchini, kohlrabi, beets, red potatoes, and tomatoes. All of these goodies will last us through the week. I have never tried kohlrabi but the farmer that had it said they just peel the green off and slice it put a little salt on it and eat it so I thought I would give it a try! The fresh flowers and arrangements were absolutely beautiful as were so many items found in the local craftsmamen's booths. I will probably be right back here next weekend.
