I purchased 4 pairs of glasses here, and I had to take all of them back because they had incorrect prescriptions. All 4. I went back to pick them up, again, and all 4, again, had the incorrect prescription. I could not believe it! Until I witnessed absolutely NO apology whatsoever. I saw Dr. Downs today for the first time. He is superb! I was hesitant as I have a few issues with my eyes since I am a previous radial keratotomy patient. He took all kinds of time with me and offered information to me that I had not been informed of at my previous optometrist's office. Luckily for me I've never had a bad experience in the world of eye care, but there is a difference between a good experience and a phenomenal one. I was referred to Dr.Downs recently & I am SO grateful I did. I have a very complex corneal issue. I needed to start wearing scleral lenses last September that I had made at UCLA Stein Eye. Unfortunately due to illegal mandates, UCLA has refused to continue my care this past year. Between the medical trauma I've experienced with other drs & the issues with my eyes, I didn't have much hope. That all changed completely after just my 1st visit. Dr.Downs is a good human, not just a good optometrist. He actually cares about his patients, you can feel the difference just by talking to him. He is by far theeee ONLY optometrist I've seen who truly LISTENS to his patients, actually hears them, spends the time needed to be helpful, asks questions, let's me ask questions & does RESEARCH! I've literally been to at least 100 eye drs in my lifetime as I've had eye issues for over 30 years. I've honestly never met an optometrist I truly liked until now. Besides Dr.Downs excellent bedside manner & his knowledge in the field, he is an out of the box thinker, which is what I needed most! The office is clean, welcoming, he has good working machines, including a topographical machine which is hard to find. I HIGHLY recommend taking the time to visit Dr.Downs at least once for your eye care needs. You will not regret it. My husband came here first and had nothing but praise for Dr. Downs and his staff, so I made a call to see if they would perform snd eye exam on my 10 year old son who was experiencing frequent headaches and difficulty seeing the whiteboard at school in certain situations - and they could! They made the experience fun and interesting for him and he felt comfortable the whole time. Dr. Downs took his time, asked both me and my son loads of questions, and he took the time to make us feel comfortable. Dr. Downs is so nice! He performed several tests and made little adjustments so my son could see as clearly as possible (all this time my son thought he could see perfectly...turns out he can't lol ). While my son was less than thrilled about the possibility of having to wear glasses while in school he was happy that the staff could arrange for the vendor to come in and show him an even wider selection of frames so he could get what he really wanted (and they told us they could give us his prescription so he could look elsewhere too). I love that they don't push you to buy glasses and that they understand the balance between cost and need. Dr. Downs told me my sons issues were mild, but could very likely be contributing to his headaches, but that if my son wouldn't be compliant with wearing them then we shouldn't spend the money. Wow, what can I say? The BEST EXAM EVER! I have Type 1 diabetes and also have been wearing glasses for farsightedness and a lazy left eye since I was in 5th grade so I have been to many optometrists and ophthalmologists in my 49 years. Dr. Downs by far gave me the best eye exam I have ever had. It didn't take long like many others have, I didn't have to have my eyes dilated, he has this new machine that takes pictures of the entire eye that eliminates the need of having your eyes dilated. I also have a HUGE fear of having my eyes touched (I know, I know ha ha) yet he was able to do the test for glaucoma where he has to touch my eye with a special little pen and after I stopped freaking out he gently touched my left eye with the tool and I felt NOTHING! No longer do they have to blow air into your eyes to check for glaucoma. It is just a gentle touch to the eye and I didn't even feel it!! I think my fear may have been cured thanks to Dr. Downs!!! When he did the exam for new glasses it was so much different and better than any other exam I had had. I wasn't "guessing" anymore like I had in my prior exams and finally got a pair of glasses where I didn't have to take them back for another exam and another prescription for yet another pair of glasses. And after my exam, Karen took me to the all new selection of glasses Dr. Downs provided and WOW again! Karen remembered that I liked Kate Spade and she took me over and there is an entire wall of all Kate Spade and it turns out the first pair she picked for me was the pair I decided to buy! She knows me so well! They got rid of all the cheaper, generic selection than Dr, Furcolow had provided and replaced them with Tiffany, Kate Spade and other nicer, designer selections. Dr. Downs is really personable and friendly. He really took the time to ask questions and explain my eye conditions. He provided me with new information I never heard of from previous eye exams from other offices. He uses updated technology where I was told I don't need to get my eyes dilated because of the technology he uses as an alternative to examine my eye.
