I came to this optometrist in recommendation of my mom, because I had booked an appointment to a different a optometry and it was an amazing decision! The receptionist that answered the phone was so sweet and kind along with the rest of the people working there like omg I love them fr and it was a huge relief since it was my first eye check up ever, although one of the receptionist was more sour and a little rude but that's okay not everyone is sunshine and rainbows, the eye wear does take up a while I have to wait for my glasses like 3-4 weeks. On 11/13 I overheard staff talking about politics with a client. The client made references to "men in women's restrooms" after staff mentioned their children were considering joining the military and the staff continued to engage in political conversation. I am coming to the optometrist to have my vision checked and not to have staff/clients engage in political talk especially with the current political climate. There is a time and place for these discussions and engaging in political conversation while at work is quite off-putting. Though I am not placing blame on staff for what the client said, a discussion should be done on ways to politely disengage such conversations. I would have definitely given this place a five star because the ladies that work there and the customer service you get is on point and deserve a five star on the other hand ever since they were bought out the choices for designer glasses or any nice looking glasses have downgraded. The optometrist named Norma, is an angel on earth! I'm from out of town and my wife stepped on my glasses when I decided to leave me on the ground...I know, I'm dumb. But they were completely bent and I thought they were broke. THEN CAME NORMA. I was in and out in 10 minutes. She fixed them perfectly and didn't even charge me! The rumors ARE true. I have been coming to Dr Bass for 20yrs. I have loved the customer service and Dr. Bass. I came a couple weeks ago and it was closed when everything said they were supposed to be open. Came today on Saturday within the window of hours they are posted to be open and again it is closed. I tried to call and now there's an automated answering service that didn't help. read more

Don't understand why this place has so high reviews. Staff was rude and stuck up, fat shamed my cousin and assumed he had high blood pressure just because of his appearance. Not only that, didn't inform any payment was due before appointment was proceeded. Claimed that we came too early (so insurance won't pay) when they were the ones who made our appointment a year ago? Forced us to pay $160 in cash just for a simple eye exam or $142 for glasses we didn't even want. Very unprofessional and very unorganized. Their job is to check if a patient's insurance is eligible before appointment and if not INFORM us if we had to pay before continuing with procedures. Clinic's error and we the patients had to pay up for it. read more

Our family have been going to Dr. Bass for more than a decade. The staff there were incredible! First part of June we called to make an appointment for a check up. Were told the business was sold, had a new owner. We were asked if we had the same insurance, told them yes, Anthem Blue Cross and they made appointments for us for the second week of July. We received a call today, a reminder about our upcoming Saturday appointments. Let them know, yes, it's on our calendar, we'll be there. They asked if we still had the same insurance, replied yes. They asked which carrier and we said, Anthem Blue Cross and they responded we don't participate with them, so we'd be out of network. Told them, please go ahead and cancel our appointments, we'll find a new, in network provider. Since they were told when the appointments were initially made which insurance company we had, why didn't they let us know then? And then let six weeks go by and call us three days before the appointment. Just not a very good first impression of their level of customer service and professionalism read more

Sadly, since the business was taken over from Dr. Bass, it's gone downhill. I see others feeling the same. Been going to Dr. Bass for almost 10 years. My last visit was in May 2024. After a routine ophthalmologist visit, I was told my vision with my NEW glasses was off, and not of the legal driving requirements. Either my RX was incorrect or was filled improperly. GW Optometry refused a free recheck. New policy was to pay or get early insurance approval. I asked for someone else to talk to or email about policy. They refused to give me a name and no one called me back. Seems like they would want to know if they made a mistake? Nope. Now looking for a new optometrist to get their mistake corrected. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. I called to schedule an eye appointment and from the condescending tone of the front office personnel, I can tell they don't need anymore clientele. She was rude and kept on repeating I needed eye insurance which I told her I did have, I just wanted to know if they would treat my eye condition. However, she was more concerned about speaking down to me that i confused my medical insurance with my vision insurance. I chose Bass because I saw great reviews and needed to make a simple purchase. I called ahead to make sure that the contacts I needed were in stock and asked if I needed to make an appointment. I spoke with Kim. I get to the store and is greeted with skepticism and a huge attitude from Kim. She asks me why is it so hard to believe I don't need to have an appointment to pickup contacts and why I called ahead? If I must explain, I called ahead because I did not want to drive all the way there to be declined for any reason. Isn't this common sense? Unlike you Kim, I don't ask stupid questions for no reason. This place could do better business with a friendlier and kinder receptionist. The entire time Kim made me feel like she did not want to sell to me and made the interaction extremely uncomfortable. We recently ordered glasses for my daughter. We weren't happy with what we ordered. When Dr Bass found out they reached out and were able to get the items we were unhappy with replaced. I'm still waiting for the replacement but am very happy with their quick response and resolution to my problem. I had a pair of wire rim sunglasses that got bent and weren't sitting straight on my nose. Took them in to Bass Vision Center where Sally was able to adjust them and get them sitting correctly again. I was maybe there for 5 minutes and everyone was kind and helpful. They did the adjustment free of charge so I will be back next time I need new glasses. read more

Back to Costco! I was attempting to engage a well-rated local business when I chose Bass Vision Center. They failed to deliver 3 times. After waiting 2 weeks, they gave me my frames back and said "here you go!" with a big smile. I did a double-take and said mystified, "These haven't been changed at all" and then I got a myriad of explanations. But all I wanted was to get this fixed and not have to wait another couple of weeks. However, I got this response instead: "I get it. You're mad. Go ahead and hit me! You know you want to. Come on! Hit me!", NO JOKE! Was this the circus? I expected a little empathy and some service recovery. But what I got was a clown. I was half expecting him to start stretching out balloons to blow up and twist into a new pair of balloon glasses. Two weeks later, after failing to get them to me in the new time promised, the second fail, the lenses were so poorly produced that I could hardly see out of them, 3rd fail. "You may have to get used to them", said another rep. But I knew better. These were progressives just like I have had for years and years. These would not work. Nothing like this has ever happened to me at Costco. It may be noisy, crowded, and hard to get to, but they are respectful, efficient, and timely. And there's not someone making a joke at my expense after THEY have failed. The long and short? I got my money back, I still need glasses, and I'm getting to practice my review writing again. read more

I recently moved and made an appointment with Dr. Bass' office. As a brand new patient, I have no complaints. Everything went well. Customer service from the staff and Dr. Bass were great! Dr. Bass has years of experience and explained what was happening. I did not feel rushed. Vivian has a good eye and helped me pick out my new glasses. They have a large selection of frames and styles. There was no pressure. I like that they are open on Saturday. Dr. Bass' office offers a retina imaging service that is not covered by my VSP insurance. Staff explained what it was and that it was optional. I felt no pressure. After speaking to Dr. Bass, I decided to get it done. It provides a full image of the back of my eyeballs. I definitely recommend Dr. Bass' office for your next vision exam. read more

I've been coming to Dr. Bass's office for at least four years now. I read some of these comments of being late for an appointment, and they wouldn't accommodate. Well I feel there's no excuse of being late. As I say " The world doesn't revolve around you being late." If they can accommodate you great. If not either be on time or reschedule for a different date. The are plenty of apps now a days such as wave for you to leave earlier to accommodate for traffic or reschedule. There is only one person in Dr. Bass's office that is unfriendly and she works where Rick does and she wears glasses as well. I just avoid her like the plague. This is my choice. They have a good selection of glasses and frames. They take just about all insurances. Make sure that if you have an individual eye plan to see what your benefits are. I went from a company eye plan to an individual eye plan and benefits are different. Just don't assume they are the same. I like Dr. Bass and most of his team. read more

Dr. Bass Vision Center may be the best optometrist office I have ever been to. They carry an amazing selection of frames for any style & shape of face (and people with big heads like me). They have a wide array of designer frames and the staff is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. The first time I went was with my husband to pick up his glasses, on a Saturday, and I was able to get an eye exam while his glasses were being adjusted, without an appointment. It was great. I highly recommend going here for your next eye exam, especially if you're looking for stylish and/or cute frames. You will not be disappointed. read more

I got my eyes checked last year because I needed a new prescription. My old eye doctor was just too far away. My eye sight is pretty stable and I'm otherwise healthy. My old prescriptions were good for 4 years. Only 13 months after getting my prescription (and in the middle of COVID where I as a physician was working 12 hour days and 7 months pregnant) my online order for contacts was denied saying they contacted the doctor and the prescription expired. I understand how the system works and there is no reason for a 12 month expiration for an otherwise healthy patient who has had a stable prescription for years ... except to make money. I should have called to fight it. Again I was busy and decided that it is not a business I want to continue on with. Buyer beware. read more

As a 43 year old professional. I found myself at a point in life where my eyes were starting to fail me. Seeking professional help, I reached Dr. Bass thru Google. I am rating my overall experience as unacceptable for the following reasons: 1. These are my first pair of glasses. I relied heavily on the help of the staff at Dr. Bass. After experiencing extreme slipping during my first week with the glasses while out of town, I sought additional help. An optometrist pointed out fitment issues that should have lead to a different style/fit of glasses entirely. 2. I feel I should have been explained and offered glare-resistant and transition lenses option. Again, being a new patient, I do not know what I need. 3. I returned the Dr. Bass office today to discuss my issues. I received vague concern for the root cause of my issues. I was giving the $335 pricing for new lenses that would correct the problem. I spent over $500 about 1 month prior and I felt short changed in the process. 4. Not one to cut cost with necessities, glasses were no different. I feel sales/fitting staff were negligent and recommending the appropriate solution to me as a patient. Feeling mislead, I did not feel comfortable sending any more money with Dr. Bass. I had an eye emergency on a Saturday morning. I woke up with unusual eye pain and irritation. I called around to many other places but kept striking out, until I found Bass Vision Center! They gave me walk-in appointment less than 30 minutes from when I called, and I was in and out in less than 15 minutes! The front desk staff was friendly and helpful and Dr. Pham was efficient and courteous. She wrote me a prescription and my eye already feels much better. Wonderful experience every time. We have been going to Dr. basses vision center in orange for approximately 10 years often on. We have moderate insurance which keeps the price down a little bit but still pretty expensive. Dr. Bass and his staff are very helpful and do a wonderful job explaining all of the additional items that are available and the pros and cons to them. I've been going to this vision center for at least three years and have never had issues with the optometrists there. However, most of the staff is unpleasant. It's never been a huge issue until one time I called prior to a visit to get my charges up front as I've gone through some financial hardship. When I got there I discovered that they failed to mention that the contact exam was an additional charge even though I asked for costs up front and always only get contacts- no glasses. To top it off when I was speaking with the blonde lady that breaks down options, she rhetorically said "well don't you know what you paid every time?" Which made me feel like she was trying to shame me in a way. I switched and never went back. My new optometrist is sensitive to the fact that I'm trying to be cost effective and gives me all the info up front. read more

Doctor's visit was comfortable and pleasant. Dealing with the staff was another story... the frame specialist seemed put-off and offered zero help selecting frames. I purchased 2 pairs of glasses - 1 bifocal & 1 computer - and was told 6 day turn around by the doctor because I was planning to go to Lens Crafters and he said it would save maybe 2 days. My computer pair came in just over a week after my visit (and no fitting was suggested or offered). When I asked about my other, more-expensive pair they said 7-10 business days. I brought up the 6 days the doctor told me and the response was "ha! he doesn't know." Today is 10 business days or exactly 2 weeks from my appointment/order and I'm still waiting for them. I regret not walking out with my prescription that day. read more

I love this place. I have really sensitive eyes and Dr. Bass and his staff helped me figure out what was going on with my eyes and my contacts, and glasses. They also fit me for a pair of frames that I absolutely adore, and haven't traded out for about 5 years, just changed the lenses in them. I am used to service where they shoo me in and out and their optical advice is minimum and useless and problems reoccur, but with Dr. Bass's staff and himself, they really helped me understand my eyes and show me solutions for my eyes. They also have the most updated frames and tons of variety to chose from. Also I was undecided about which contact lenses would be best for my extremely dry eyes, so he let me sample and trial a few types of brands so that I would be sure. I will be revisiting them over and over again. read more

However I know live in Riverside and I figure I stay loyal.... big mistake! I called stating I would be late and they said it was no a problem. I came in for an eye exam without an appointment and got in pretty quickly. The only gripes I have about this place is that they ordered me the wrong trial contact lens so they had to put in the correct order, which took another week. They also wanted to charge me in advance for contact lenses that they hadn't ordered yet. Sheesh I hadn't even gotten my trial pair yet...how was I supposed to know if I liked them enough to pay for a couple boxes in advance?! Anywho, I didn't like the toric lens so I stuck to the regular ones. Now they owe me $26 since they charged me for the toric lenses I hadn't ordered and said that it would be used as a credit for my next purchase. I think the best part of this place is the front desk staff. They are incredibly nice and friendly!
