Village Bake Shop is amazing. I don't understand the bad reviews. The thumbprint cookies bring back nostalgia of trips with my grandmother, and they still taste the same as when I was a kid. They have the perfect little hint of salt, and everyone I have given them to has loved them. We have to buy two containers or my husband will eat them all before I can get one. Do not order from this company!!! Ordered some thumbprint cookies in a tin for Christmas. They arrived all crumbled and broken, couldn't use them. I have called and called and emailed them with pictures on how they came. No response whatsoever. "Crystal" the manager was supposed to call me back, never did. POOR Customer service!! read more

If you need a special design this NOT the place for you. The pictures speak for themselves. I ordered the cake and cookies below for my son and daughter-in-law's Lumberjack themed baby shower. I spoke with Theresa who told me that she could absolutely do these designs except that she could not make the moose. She said that I would need to provide a cake topper; which I did. My son picked up my order and paid for them with his debit card and I was to reimburse him that evening. He did not know what was ordered. He was just there to pick it up and pay for it. I took one look at the cake and cookies and was in absolute shock! The cookies did not look like they came from a professional bakery and the cake was even more disappointing. This was NOT what I ordered. The bottom of the cake was supposed to look like wood but it looked as if I had iced a cake with white icing. The message on the front was the wrong saying and off-centered. It was supposed to say "from tiny seeds grow mighty trees." But it read"from tiny seeds you will move mountains." which was not only incorrect; it absolutely made no sense. The banner on the top layer was tiny compared to what I ordered. The baby's name was not easily read and the last letter of the name was barely on the banner. I called and spoke with Theresa and she said that there was nothing she could do about it. She was out of town and there was no one at their establishment that was capable of correcting the error. She went on to basically say that I needed to get over it and just enjoy the shower. She said that she would "make this up to me." Left in the lurch by Village Bakery and at great expense, we scramble around and found another place to do an overnight rush order, to fix this cake and cookie disaster. You would think with this inconvenience that this establishment would be helpful and at least reimburse our charges but no. We were told, "We have been here 57 years and we have never given refunds." They did offer to provide us with more cookies or cupcakes -- 2 days after the shower. read more

Nothing worse than cold donuts with coffee. The donuts were good and the person waiting on me didn't know if they had coffee made or not. As far as parking is concerned. That is what gets them 3 stars. There are two signs right out front that specifically states for The Village Bakery customers only. They gave me my coffee in a cup without a lid. They said they didn't have any. So, I told her to fill it 3/4 full so it won't spill in my truck as I'm driving. She still charged me full price for a cup of coffee. So I have always loved this bakery. But my wedding cake looks like it wasn't finished. Like maybe someone tired this at home. My grooms cake (the one with the truck) was done at home and it out staged my wedding cake. I'd give them ZERO Stars if it were an option. I begged the "Village Bakery" manager to stay open a couple of minutes past 6:00 in order for me to arrive from Atlanta. It was my 80 yr old Mother's B'Day and she loves the cookies from this bakery. I live in Atlanta & was rushing to get there before closing at 6:00. My GPS said I would arrive by 6:08 (I actually got there at 6:02) but the manager told me she would absolutely NOT let me in. It would have taken less than 2 minutes for me to purchase those cookies. If this was my establishment, I would have done anything to please a lifelong customer (my Mother). Fortunately, after telling this story to my Sister (who lives in Cleveland) I was ultimately GLAD the manager was so "unaccommodating". My sister told me that her last (and it was her LAST visit to this shop) that the display cases were FULL of flies. It grossed her out so much she hasn't been back. No one in my family will EVER frequent this bakery again. It's sad because our Mother used to LOVE this place. I think the Owner(s) need to know these things. It's just sad. read more

Previous visits were positive with very friendly staff and good treats. This visit sign was on that said "Fresh Hot Doughnuts". I asked if the doughnuts were really hot? She said yes, they recently came out. I ordered a dozen. Opened the box in the car and they were stone cold. I preordered 5 dozen thumbprint cookies and was shortened about 20 cookies. Upon pick up, I noticed the box was on the smaller side, however they had it taped shut so I couldn't look right away. Plus, they're smaller cookies so I thought they probably packed them in there tight. I got home and notice only 39 cookies in the box. I paid 4.99 a dozen on my receipt which was about $28 with tax. Last time I checked 12x5 equals 60, not 39. I bought these for a party and they won't even fill up the platter. Just save your time and go to Publix. read more

To be a baked shop that promotes beautiful wedding cakes, the actual cake is not good. My former boss used to go here and get us "bribes" for us when someone did good, like a cake called Mounds Cake. Chocolate, coconut, and icing! Sounds delicious, tastes dry as a desert! There are supposed to be two letter S's in dessert, not one. This one was so dry I couldn't eat it. I've been coming here since I was a little kid. Their thumbprint cookies are the best that you'll find anywhere. They're the perfect blend of sweet, salty, and buttery. Absolutely Horrible. I used this bakery for my wedding and am extremely disappointed. I trusted them to do a very basic wedding cake with a simple color touch of color, petit fours, and doughnuts because they had so much confidence when I spoke with them multiple times. The day before the wedding when we went to pick up the petit fours, the color of the petit fours and the doughnuts were wrong, the design on the petit fours and doughnuts were wrong and so we didn't even trust them to do the design for the wedding cake so we told them to do just plain white with no dots or anything on it because being the day before my wedding, I didn't have time to find a new bakery. And of course when we got the cake, there were of course dots around the layers like we specifically asked for their to not be. We served it because we had no other options and they barely gave an apology saying and wouldn't refund for the whole thing because "it was edible" and they only do in store credit as if I would want to use them again. This was a horrible experience and I will forever turn my friends, family, and clients away from this bakery because of how they messed up my WEDDING. There are 2 bakeries that can make my heart skip a beat just by thinking of them. The Village Bake Shop and Krispy Creme (when the hot sign is on and it is 30 miles away). I don't normally feel compelled to write reviews for businesses, but felt I needed to do so this time. My husband and I recently ordered a cake from this bake shop. We're relatively new to this area, and had never ordered a cake here. We'd seen pics of beautiful cakes on the Village Bake Shop's Facebook page, and they'd come highly recommended, which led us to order from them. The employee taking our order told us they could "do anything" in terms of decorating. Sounded great! Picked up the cake yesterday and it was completely unsatisfactory. The decorating was very sloppy, and totally unlike anything we'd seen on their Facebook page. They didn't include everything on the cake we'd asked for,and didn't bother to let us know in advance. I could see where they attempted to put a requested logo on the cake, but goofed, and scraped it off and didn't "fix" the frosting, so it was very obvious something had been removed. It was just not the caliber of work we expected. I should never have left the bake shop with the cake, but honestly, I was in such shock and disbelief that I didn't know what to say, and I didn't want to be rude or confrontational. I also knew it was too late for them to fix it because I needed it within a couple of hours of pickup. I opted not to serve the cake at the intended event, as it was that bad. I ended up having to go to a grocery store bakery and grabbing something from the case at the last minute. That led me to the decision to return the cake. Upon returning the cake, the manager agreed it wasn't decorated well, and then asked me what I wanted her to do. I asked for a refund, but was told they'd been in business for over 50 years and had never given refunds, only store credit for other bakery items. In my opinion, the Village Bake Shop is Cleveland's very best. Not only do the people provide friendly and personal customer service, the treats are delicious. My favorite donut is the cinnamon twist, i love to get them early in the morning when they are fresh out of the oven. The Village makes everything fresh daily. Also, the cakes are the best.
