WOW!!! Soo good. Today (Saturday) we got there a little before 11:00 and the only bread left was faccacia. So we said "yes please". It was still hot, needless to say, we ate it in the car. So let me be clear: their baker is phenomenal. We come here several times a month because their bread is undeniably the best in the Inland Empire. They are getting a 3-star review due to their customer service. I hope the owner/manager sees this review and implements some changes. 1st. The line to make your order( bread/pastries) is ridiculously long and time-consuming. I have been there many times and seen customers leave rather than wait in the long line. The fact that people are willing to wait in the long line is a testament to how good their products are, but as a business owner and manager, seeing potential customers leave should set off alarm bells that they need to change things to help streamline the process. While waiting in line, it is easy to see what the hold-up is. First, there is only one cash register, but there is easily space for two. Second, the cashier/bread runner(person who grabs your selected item is WAY too chatty.) Don't get me wrong, a friendly staff is necessary, but when they impede the flow of sales, it is a detriment. There is an easy fix to this. Add a second register; instead of people waiting to the very end to literally point out what they want to the bread runner, have customers use a small laminated list of their available items. As people near the cash register, they are handed the list, they check off what they want, and the bread runner then goes and gets it. This cuts down on idly chatter and will let customers know what items are available. 2nd. Item availability. This one is partially my fault and I accept it. There are some steps Village Bread could implement to prevent it happening again, because it has left me a bit annoyed and annoyed customers don't always come back. I love their pretzels and cheese croissants. It is truly an amazing pastry. I typically only go for that single item and brave the long wait for it. When I went today, though the spot in their display case was empty, customers could clearly see behind the cashier there was a large tray of them. I figured they were still available as their bread runner was grabbing other items(chocolate and regular croissants) from similar trays for customers so I assumed the pretzel croissants were also available. Lo and behold 20 minutes later when it's finally my turn, the bread runner tells me those croissants are reserved for people who called ahead. Not going to lie; I was pretty annoyed as I could see no signs that marked those items as reserved or unavailable and, in fact, wasted 20 minutes all for nothing when a simple reserved or sold-out sign could have cured this easily made a mistake. In fact, the implementation of an itemized checklist customers use would have fixed this problem. 3rd. The cashier blatantly lied to a caller as I was buying items, which I found pretty shocking. As I was buying some pastries, the cashier answered the phone and the caller was clearly asking whether the bakery had bread and pastries available. The cashier responded, "Yes, we still have all our breads available." Which was untrue as A. Much of the display case was empty, and items I wanted were not available, and I heard the bread runner tell other customers they were out of some loaves. In fact, after she hung up. The bread runner who also heard the conversation said, "well we have most of our breads." Acknowledging she had been untruthful, but the damage was done since the cashier had already hung up. I would be pretty annoyed if I called, they tell me that and then it was gone when I got there. Especially considering there was still a long line. The lie is easy to cover up by simply saying, "Oh, we sold out of X item after the call." I doubt any of these issues will cause me to stop going for now, but I can see myself trying other bakeries if they don't continue to adapt and streamline their process. read more

My first visit was just a recon mission and I ended up with a load of bread, two Danish, 8 cookies and a complimentary baguette. Such unique tastes and quality ingredients and freshness. A lost art. Just tried Village Bread a couple days ago. Loved them!! Their fresh baguettes, croissants and pretzels are amazing :) I was impressed that they used Parliament Chocolate and supported another local business. Although upon biting into the chocolate croissant I realized it was bittersweet chocolate, ugh. It was so bitter it ruined the croissant. I wound up just eating the croissant around the chocolate. The almond croissant was delicious though. They had a delicious looking hazelnut chocolate danish I want to try next time. All in all it was a great breakfast and I can't wait to go back.
