My hubby and I came here for the first time. ( Dec. 2025 ) We don't live too far, so it was convenient even though it was raining. Didn't even know they existed until I had to shop at Ace Hardware next door a week earlier & noticed them! I (wife) couldn't wait to try this place after realizing they offer Patty Melt sandwiches! This sandwich brings back fond memories of my mother and me back in the late 70's early 80's when she and I would go to our favorite Cafe back in Los Angeles weekly for their famous patty melts! So I still love them to this day! Anyway, so my husband and I went on a Sunday afternoon around 12:15pm. The place was quite packed w/people, which was a great indicator of good food/service! So I obviously ordered the Patty Melt and added grilled mushrooms to it and had their steak fries which comes w/it, and my hubby got the Deluxe Beef sandwich with potato salad. No drinks but water. OMG! BOTH of us were raving once we started eating, and I swear.... not one exaggeration, this Patty Melt sandwich was THE best I've EVER eaten in my entire life! Super hot off the grill, meat cooked exactly as I'd ordered it, it was loaded w/the shrooms and onions, the dark rye bread was grilled to perfection, and fries were absolutely delicious too! They provide mayo, mustard, and ketchup on the table for one to add IF needed too. (convenient) Mine didn't need anything, really! My hubby kept saying how delicious his sandwich and potato salad was too! Big portions so quite satisfying! And the super nice waitress who was dressed in holiday attire was very attentive, helpful, and kind!!! Lighting was good.....actually a little bright for us, but better than being too dark! What a perfect lunch experience we had! Hope this place sticks around, as we'd LOVE to come back and back again! I would give a Zero Star but I will say at least the waitress was nice. This was the worse food I have ever had. And I have had some pretty bad food. The difference between a Chef and a Cook is how they make an Omelette and the person who cooks here is a Cook. These were scrambled eggs with your fixings mixed in them and everything on top. I had the California and my Husband had the Denver. His was more like a Bell Pepper Green Omelette. It was the worse breakfast ever. As a foodie I give this place a 2 and like I said that was for the Waitress. And the Ambience well the tables are to far away from you. You have to move away from the back of the seat booth in order to eat very uncomfortable. read more

I've been coming to the Village Cafe for years. I'm very surprised by some of the critical reviews. In my experience, the waitresses are friendly, efficient, attentive, and never rude to my party or any other customers that I can see. The service is usually amazingly quick. I'm generally there for breakfast and order an omelette, sometimes pancakes, french toast, or eggs benedict. The food is always very good, with large enough portions to have leftovers. I'd say the biscuits are the best I've had in any breakfast in town. This place is a gem. I would miss it so much if they closed. read more

You know you're in a diner when all the patrons are Caucasian couples with a median age of 68. I know someday I will have to join the inevitable but today I will remain young and eat here. Everyone was having sandwiches or breakfast but I craved a steak. And that's what I ordered. Should have known better. The steak was tough and chewy. I asked for medium rare and got well done. The fat took 1/5 the size of the 10oz steak and wasn't rendered down. Mash and veggies were standard frozen or whatever. Food was expensive for less than Denny's quality. The Yelp page does not do this place justice. The photos are horrible. I was dreading coming in expecting powdered eggs and microwave bacon but to my surprise... THE FOOD WAS REALLY GOOD! I started eating before I realized I should probably get some pictures and post a review to help this place out. So apologies for the bites. We got simple two egg breakfast. The English muffin came perfectly buttered for me which I thought was nice. The bacon is fresh and so are the eggs! They have a choice of home potatoes or hash browns and both were very good! By far the best OMELETTE in Santa Rosa. I come here a lot and every-time I'm here it just keeps getting better and better. Today I had to resort to Yelp to let others know how amazing this hidden gem truly is. Janet is always my server when I'm here and has to be one of the sweetest woman to ever serve me. Everytime I'm here she is very attentive and the guest and regulars that come here just adore her. Just moved to the neighbor hours and found this gem. Met a friend for a 7:30 weekday breakfast. We had the place to ourselves, great service. Our server has been at that location for seven years through different owners. Very friendly the pancakes were perfection. My friend got biscuits and gravy, and she was very pleased. Food is ehh. Nothing special. Service is horrible. The older Asian woman (waitress) made MULTIPLE offensive remarks to my 6 month pregnant wife about her size. "Oh you're not going to make it that long" and "must be twins". Then she came back and started talking about it again until I called her out and told her how ridiculously rude she was being. She then made a poor attempt to defend herself by saying she just meant the baby would be "big like dad"... really? You're making it way worse. Why would anyone think that these kinds of things are OK to say to ANYONE, let alone a pregnant woman? The nerve. We will never be visiting this place again, and will be convincing others to not support this kind of behavior. I live just around the corner and have never had occasion to try Village Cafe. And, honestly, the reviews on Yelp could be better. It's pretty nondescript from the outside between an Ace Hardware and a laundromat. How wrong I was to be reluctant!! We came here last weekend and the food and service was excellent. It's light, clean, and comfortable inside. Has an air of a locals only place in a good way. The hostess/waitress (owner?) knew many patrons by name. The service was prompt and very friendly. We came just an hour before closing yet never felt rushed. The coffee was good and refilled often. We didn't get a scowl when we asked for ice water with lemon :) There were about half a dozen specials and an extensive menu of breakfast and lunch selections. My niece had the Eggs Benedict special. She let me (barely!) taste it and I thought it was very good. The muffin was toasted lightly, the poach on the eggs was perfect, the hollandaise smooth, and not too thick. Just enough lemon. My eggs over easy w/bacon was great--eggs done as requested, with 4 strips of thick cut bacon. Very yummy. The toast was properly toasted with plenty of butter. We got a single pancake to share and it was delicious--light and fluffy. The pancake and hollandaise both tasted scratch made (I don't know if they were, if not, they use good mixes and make them as they go) . And the best...we both asked for our hash browns crispy. Sadly, sometimes this request sometimes results in burned rather than crisp but these were prepared exactly as we wanted. They seemed fresh (as opposed to pre-cooked then crisped up before serving) because they weren't soggy or mushy on the inside. The prices were competitive. Nothing is cheap these days, but the places closer to downtown exceed Village Cafe's prices by probably around $5. The OK is fresh squeezed. They also serve mimosas. We didn't have one but we were tempted! Maybe next time. Kudos to the owners and staff, especially the kitchen staff. I am so glad we came! We just have nothing but outstanding things to say about Village Cafe. We'll be back soon. You should definitely go. Definitely. read more

If possible I would give this place no stars. My mom went in to have brunch with her sisters & mother and the waitress was rude. While talking to her they asked if she understood Spanish and her response was "No and I don't want to. This is America" As if it's not ok to speak other languages. My mom went out to have a pleasant brunch with her sisters and mother, she shouldn't of had to deal with someone making her feel like she didn't have the right to speak whatever language she wanted to. This place is next door to the Ace Hardware on Guerneville Rd. off Fulton. I have been here twice for breakfast and have left satisfied each time. The staff is attentive and efficient. The coffee is better than most diner coffee. They have an ongoing $5.95 special with 2 eggs/2 pancakes/ 2 bacon or sausage. It's a solid three stars all the time. Not great, not bad. waffles,patty melts, over easy eggs,are consistently good. The hash browns are always soggy and under cooked. I've asked for them extra crispy multiple times and they always come out the same. The staff is friendly, and now that they have new management it's progressively getting better. Hubby and I went here for breakfast on a Sunday morning since IHOP on Fulton was jam packed. Wow! First off, the place is inviting and casual and feels homey. I had Eggs Benedict that were delicious. The ham wasn't too salty and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The Hollandaise was good; not too thick. I also had fresh fruit instead of potatoes or hash browns and it was great; nice to see actual fresh melon! Hubby had the home made corned beef hash and I had to taste. It was real corned beef, fried with some potatoes and it was great! I liked that it wasn't over seasoned. The OJ is good there, too. The service was quick, very friendly and I was happy to see Fried Chicken and Liver & Onions on the dinner menu! There are steaks, chicken, and seafood.
