Pretty big menu, of diner-y basics: hot dogs, burgers, and some other sandwiches and gyros. I had had the coneys, and while they are fine, they are not incredible. Still, they're good enough, and super cheap, and it's a handy spot, so they're worth a try. Today I got a friend bologna sandwich, and the daily special was free fries with sandwiches. Made to order, it was a couple of slightly thick slices of bologna, onions, cheese, mustard, and mayo. Only slightly messy. Super tasty. As good as the best out there? No, but pretty good, and again, very cheap. Plus, hey, free fries, and they were good too: thin, crispy, hot. Maybe not my first choice, but an old standby. And, again, good food cheap. The guy taking orders acts like he hates his life and his job, but I think that's his very soon of efficiency and I always give him a buck anyway. Wow, how are people rating this place a 4 star coney shop. I can't believe this place is even open. Do you know how good a place needs to be to have a 4-5 rating? I have eating at the coney multiple times and the food and service have always been exceptional! Nick and John are always friendly, fast and efficient! The food has always been top notch , fresh, hot and delicious! This restaurant is great for any budget! They always have daily specials for under $10. But if you wanna spend more you won't be disappointed you'll always leave with an amazing meal. Tried this place after driving by so many times. I got a coney dog with slaw plus chili cheese fries and it was really satisfying. Their chili is meaty with kidney beans, great flavor and was so good on the fries and hot dog. Place is definitely a dive. First time here and thought we would try it because they were in the entertainment book this year. However, was told that they told entertainment book staff they didn't want to be in the book this year so employee would not honor the Bogo coupon. It's was ok. I've had better. This is a house located on Whittier St. it's a very busy road but parking is free. The place is rather small as it only seats 17 people. There was 1 tv on the wall and music that was playing rather loudly. I would have preferred that the OSU game that was playing would have had priority over the radio. The staff was friendly and welcoming, they suggested since this was our first visit to get coneys. Order: 3 x Village Coneys w cheese $2.40 ea. 1 x Tater spud tots $2.50 Total $9.70 The meal was delivered with 2 Little Debbie oatmeal cream pies. I thought this was a nice touch, however there were 3 of us. The tater tots were crispy and piping hot. They tasted good. The coney dogs were ok. The sauce seemed to be a little dry and lacking that sauciness that I'm used to. There was also some spicy seasoning that was a little much. I like spicy, but not in my Coney. The price was a little high for the quality and amount of toppings received. Overall the meal was ok, but I don't see myself driving out of my way to get more. Not the best coney dog I've had, but better than some. We ordered three coney dogs and tater tots to split. The tray of food came out with two Little Debbie's oatmeal cream pies. The coney sauce was a little tangier than I prefer, but it wasn't bad. The tater tots were crispy on the outside and hot and steamy on the inside. The dining room is tiny and the grill is right there. There is a restroom, with a short door. We told the guys we had never been before and they recommended trying the coneys. Decided to try this hidden hot dog "gem" in Columbus. 2 coneys, fries, and a drink for $7. Great value! Coney sauce is homemade, and good, but nothing to write home about. Buns were fresh, but I prefer a steamed bun and these were not. Fries are a frozen shoestring cut fry, and are a great accompanying side. The menu has something for everyone willing to warm their soul with some calories or fried food. The coneys are fairly sized and my dogs had a nice char. Can't beat a good char on a weenie. We don't live close to this place but we were in the neighborhood for breakfast at another place a couple blocks away so there was no way we wouldn't run by here! I love coneys! But I'm very particular about my coneys. Coney sauce should not have beans in it, otherwise it's just chili over a hot dog. Another thing about their coney sauce is that it's made without tomato sauce. That's pretty rare. When I'm there, I always buy a small container of their coney sauce to go. Yes! It's that good! They have daily specials Monday thru Friday and also a #1 and #2 that are always available. The place is pretty small inside but I just tend to honk of it as cozy. And one nice thing they do is give you a Little Debbie Oatmeal Pie with every meal. What a nice touch. So I've had a lot of coneys over the years but none have compared with Village Coneys! Mixed feelings about VC. I love the fact that they actually MAKE their coney sauce. Not canned. All beef hot dogs. Cheap prices. After that, I was not finding anything standout. Buns were standard. Dogs did not have any special taste that screamed "special recipe flavor". Fries were average, and needed some seasoning. I was sitting at a table waiting, so not sure how they weren't hot. The oatmeal cookie is a nice touch, but not enough to blow my skirt up. They throw the dog on the grill, which I liked, but cannot recall if I told them to split the dog, or that's what they do. I like my dog with a firm casing. Many call them "snap dogs". Similar to a brat or sausage that resists at each bite, until a snap of the casing, releasing flavored juices. I got close when I ordered the Italian sausage on my next visit. Same bun though. The Little Debbie oatmeal cookies come with meals. The coney sauce is the standout alone. Small dining area, and small patio dining on the front walk. The bathroom is definitely a must see. I recall it being frighteningly tiny. I should have told my wife to go in there, to cure her desire to live in a tiny house. We must stop every time when nearby. My wife requires a carryout with that coney sauce. I stopped in for the first time with my buddy last week and couldn't believe I hadn't been here before. My old roommate literally lives next door to this place and has been saying they've got awesome hot dogs, and he goes there all the time. I was craving hot dogs (which continued on through the weekend and average hot dogs per day over the past 5 days fulfilled my yearly quota), and we didn't really want to take a gamble on waiting at Dirty Frank's. We were the only people in the place, so I got to take my time looking at the menu, and they have a surprisingly large menu. I ended up going with a lunch special of two coneys, a small fry and a drink, and I added a Cleveland dog for good measure. My buddy ended up getting the Chicago dog and the Italian sausage. Besides dogs and sausages, they offer all kinds of burgers, sandwiches, pitas, and salads. Our friend next door says the Rodeo burger is awesome along with the steak and blue cheese pita. Also, everything is super cheap! The coneys I got were super tasty, and I downed those no problem. The Cleveland dog was the highlight though: polish sausage with BBQ sauce, fries, and coleslaw on a bun. The sausage was cooked perfectly with a great snap, and the BBQ sauce was delicious. I wasn't a huge fan of the fries. They weren't very hot, and they didn't have any seasoning on them. My buddy also wasn't a fan of the Chicago dog, but he said the Italian sausage was great. The guys working behind the counter are friendly, and the service is super quick. It didn't look like there was any lunch time rush, so we'll definitely be back for a quick meal. The life of a restaurant reviewer isn't all about fine dining and ginormous checks at the end of the evening. Even those of us who make eating out our livelihood have our cache of places that we go to regularly on the cheap, to buy comfort food that isn't fancy, but is just *good*. Village Coney is one of those places for me. I have an unnatural affinity for hot dogs, those little packages of mystery meat mixed with spices that have sustained me since childhood. The fact that there's a restaurant that's centered around hot dogs? All kinds of awesome. Their "signature" dog is the Village Coney ($2 with cheese), a nice spicy dog smothered in mustard, onions, chili and lots of cheddar cheese. These are among the best coneys I've had locally, and are my "go to" place for coneys. If dogs aren't your thing, you can also opt to have some of their flavorful chili all by itself, in the form of a bowl or cup. We opted for a large ($3.50 with cheese and onions). My personal favorite item on their menu is the Cleveland Dog ($3.25), which is a Polish sausage topped with French fries, BBQ sauce and cole slaw. I know, sounds absolutely disgusting. I thought so too until I tried it. The flavors just work together, really they do. Now it's something that I order every time I go. And speaking of their fries - just typical fries ($2 for a large), but cooked perfectly and absolutely just the right thing to pair with a dog or two (I prefer my fries sprinkled with seasoned salt, thus the spices on them). My husband opted for a double cheeseburger ($5), which I thought was just OK, because I wasn't so hot about the soggy veggies, the overabundance of condiments, and the bun that didn't have a prayer of holding up to all of the above. It's probably much better fresh than it is for takeout. His favorite sandwich, by far, is the Italian Sausage ($3.25), which is a unbelievably tender piece of sausage split, and then topped with marinara, grilled onions, and lots of melted mozzarella. Delicious, and so filling for the price. Needless to say, it's a friendly little neighborhood joint in German Village (right next to Banana Bean on Whittier) with fairly easy to find parking, great service, and excellent prices (we got all of the above for under $20). The only drawback is their short hours - they're closed on Sundays, and are only open from 11am until 6pm the rest of the week. But if you can find your way there on your way home from work, I can't think of a better way to fill yourself up while not breaking the budget. Keep an eye out for daily specials that will offer additional savings. read more

We were visiting Columbus and looking for which Coney dog joint to try. So happy we tried this one! My friend got a basic coney with a side of slaw. I got the slaw topped coney (only $2.40!) and phenomenal non greasy onion rings. The slaw was so tasty I wound up getting a pint of it to go. Found this place on Yelp looking for a new spot to get lunch and am I forever glad for everyone's recommendations. This place is awesome and I will be eating here every time I am in the neighborhood to get a hair cut. The restaraunt is one of a kind. The building has probably been here forever, but the owners have made it their own from the decor to the food. You can't argue against the customers they have attracted or the awesome customer service they provide. Village Coney was fast, fresh, and friendly. The dining room was clean and they have a small patio they set up out front bistro style when the weather is nice. I got the Village Coney itself for lunch and a side of fries. The dog was cooked well and the meat tasted great. The side of fries was fresh and crispy and the Little Debbie was a nice thank you. I also got a Spicy Sausage with onions and peppers for later that I just finished. It probably would have been a little better fresh, but I have no complaints after warming it up. I have several friends that are chili dog freaks and I will be bringing them here as soon as I can. The place is affordable for a family or college student and is a great value for anyone paying attention to their wallet. I originally went to Village Coney for hot dogs. I am always looking for a good (or great) hot dog place. I went in on a Friday and found out every Friday they have a fried bologna sandwich special. The fried bologna sandwich was well cooked, well seasoned and topped with onions and cheese. It came with a decent-sized batch of crispy fries, a pop (I went with A&W Root Beer) and a Little Debbie oatmeal cream pie! I went back and tried their coneys which are equally as good. Another special was a mini meatball sub, a coney, tater tots, a pop and an oatmeal cream pie. The chili on the coney is very nice and meaty. The meatballs in the mini-sub are very tender and tasty as well. This place has several small tables inside and a few small tables outside. They do a lot of carryout business and manage to keep the orders moving along. It seems like I have never had to wait very long for my food. read more
