Met my Brother here with my Son. One of my Nephews was here also. Later my Niece and other Nephew joined. I've eaten at the Village Deli in The Village District in Raleigh many times and alway had a great experience. The Wake Forest restaurant is the same quality. This was a great place to meet. Plenty of parking and lots of seating. You order at the counter and they call you when your orders ready. We sat outside in a covered area; it was a beautiful day. All areas are kept clean. The food is good. However, the prices you see on the menu is not what you will pay. Now the prices are fairly high already but the menus are not current. So when they ring you out expect to pay 10-15 percent more. Also, don't bother complaining about it. The manager will let you there is jurying she can do. At first when we passed Village Deli and Grill it looked like a place that would have sit down table service however when we got there we then learned it's a bit more casual, you order at the counter, they give you a buzzer and then you come pick up your food when it's ready. They have indoor & outdoor seating which is nice and a large menu which is also amazing. My husband isn't a "sandwich/deli" guy so I'm glad they have other things that he can eat as well! All of the food was good but let's get to the desserts.... To die for... honestly I am going to have to go get another slice of that lemon blueberry cake this week. Food is fine however...service was horrible. Front girls treated us with no respect! When asked for a burger without all the fixings on it for my picky child we were met with the response "so what do you even want on it?" Unfortunately, we forgot to order one thing and had to relive the experience except this time we were blatantly ignored. My daughter was in line and was abandoned as soon as it was her turn to order, it took me walking over there for us to get a petty "someone will be with you shortly." Haven't been here in a few years, now I remember why. They were very busy on a Sunday at 1:30 pm, however, after being in business for many years, you'd think the kinks would be worked out. Nope. Ordered a house salad with grilled chicken and asked if I could please add hard boiled eggs, was told sure, paid for eggs. Also ordered turkey sandwich with fries. Sat at a table and realize the employee never got our name, so had to stand in pick up line and wait (again) to add our name to our ticket... Sit down again, wait about 15 minutes, call our order. Food was subpar at best. They did not add the eggs to my salad (paid for them), my friend said her turkey sandwich was completely bland and none of it had flavor. Also, it's not very relaxing to be out dining with friends and constantly have peoples names screamed out - the atmosphere in here has changed in recent years. I wanted to like this place, but unfortunately the customer service service wasn't great and my order was inaccurate. I placed a to-go order online for lunch on a weekday since I was craving a sandwich. I parked out front and walked inside to retrieve my order. They have a sign indicating to pick up orders at the cash register. When I arrived there was no one at the cash register and a wall blocked the employees assembling meals from seeing me. They all seemed very busy so I waited for an employee to return to the register. Eventually an employee walked over and noticed me. I gave her my name and she handed me my order. When I got to work I realized I received the homemade chicken salad rather than the California chicken salad so it was missing the walnuts, apples, and cucumbers. Plus the bread wasn't toasted as requested. Not having the correct sandwich was disappointing especially since I paid $14 for it. The sandwich tasted okay and I enjoyed the sweet potato fries. It's hit or miss with the quality and quantity of food. We've been going to the Wake Forest location for many years. It has a nice outdoor seating area and staff are courteous. However, the food is not always as described, and portions can be skimpy, particularly the California chicken sandwich and BLTs. Having eaten at the Lake Boone Trail and Cameron Village locations, I know they could offer a better sandwich for the same price. Chicken gyro is so good, but I was very disappointed with the steak gyro. I am absolutely floored by how I was just treated at WF Village Deli. It used to be such a nice place. I went in today as I was doing some food deliveries. I am out of work full time work right now. I had been waiting about 10 minutes, no big deal, it was lunch and they were very busy. But knowing I would have to serve the drink myself, I went up to ask if I could have the cup so I could go ahead and get that ready. I approached the young lady sending out dine-in food. Before I could get out a word, she rudely said, you have to go over there, meaning the space right next to it. So I went where I was told and again tried to ask for the cup so I could have my customer's order ready to go. Before I could get a whole word out, the lady there started YELLING at me. I really love this place and have been going for years but the things I don't recommend is the chicken tender and burgers, the chicken tenders aren't juicy they are very dry and the burgers are cold and the meat isn't the best. What I would recommend is the panini or fish they are so good the coleslaw and the french fries usually come complimentary and they taste amazing. The service is good unless you go during a pretty busy time they will take 30-40 minutes to take out the food which is long but the food is usually fresh. The setting of the place is beautiful. They have lots of seating inside and outside. If you prefer outside they also have a shading. I would recommend this place. Food is good. I recently ordered the California Chicken Salad sandwich at the Wake Forest location. The sandwich comes with sliced apples, cucumbers and walnuts. A better name is the cumber and apple sandwich with a little chicken salad. There was a very thin layer of chicken salad on each slice of bread with a lot of apples and cucumbers in the middle. Beverages - self serve - the tea canisters were not well marked so I poured unsweet tea instead of the preferred sweet tea. Price - I though it was a little high priced for self serve. COVID-19: This was our second time ordering Village Dei for take-our since the stay-at-home order. It was our last, and perhaps ever last time. No employees have been wearing masks or any type of PPE, even when we ordered before restaurants were allowed to re-open dining rooms (which is why we did not return after the first visit). Today was particularly disturbing because their dining room was completely packed. No one was wearing a mask, except for my husband who picked up our food. No social distancing was in place. I want to give my business to local companies. But I feel this is a deliberate message that does not show concern for at-risk members of our community. I care for my elderly parents.
