    Tish and us!!!
    May E.

Can we just say "huge portions" and unbelievable prices?!? This was our first time here (and came back the next day!) The reason? Our server Tish! When we arrived, she was our person! She was so personable, likeable, and gave us a little tour of the place (it wasn't busy at the time so we got her all to ourselves --it seemed liked it!) Love the feel here, seems so peaceful! Will definitely be back and see her! When you go, please ask for Tish!

    Pozole!!!

The BEST Pozole in town!!!! Wednesday's only!!!!! With all the fixings to include homemade tortilla chips!

I'm sure the Tehachapi Mountain Festival challenges many restaurants. There is a large influx of people and we all want to eat. We watched the parade and wandered around Central Park. There were many food vendors, but we wanted to sit inside. We walked over to Village Grill. They were pretty busy, but we go a booth near the front. Our waitress brought our drinks quickly and took our order. TheTriple-Decker sounded good to us. It came with choices of regular or seasoned fries. We went regular. It seemed our food was taking a while when our waitress came by to explain there was a mixup, but the food was on its way. It arrived shortly. This is good, old, diner food. It is tasty and in good portions. The service is very home style too. They are looking to please. A good place to eat.

Hubby and son went here this morning, if my son loves it- it is really good! (He is super duper picky) Yhe service was very quick and the restaurant itself is quaint and cute, very friendly staff. Again the food was scrumptious- highly recommend/

We are on our way to Death Valley and wanted a real breakfast and that's what we got at the VILLAGE GRILL. It was 9:00 AM on a Thursday and the joint was busy. The menu covers all possibilities and based on the other tables the portions are always large and tasty looking. I enjoyed the cinnamon roll french toast with two eggs and sausage links. Everything was very tasty. My wife enjoyed the Shake omelet. Hers also came with a entree size side of biscuit and gravy which we shared. The VG isn't fancy it is just great comfort food with friendly efficient service.

    Chile Verde Omelet. Would recommend!

Atmosphere: The Villiage Grill is the picture-perfect small-town diner. There is plenty of outdoor seating. Inside, you'll find a full-length bar and plenty of booths and tables. There isn't anything fancy at the Villiage Grill, but there doesn't need to be. Everyone was spaced out, and the employees were all wearing (fun) masks. Even though I was picking up a to-go order, I felt safe. Coffee: The coffee at the Village Grill was good. One of my favorite features of diners is when they offer the little flavored creamers to add-in. The Village Grill had french vanilla creamers if you wanted them. It was brewed hot and fresh, and I have no complaints. Food: The Village Grill menu has everything you want in a diner. There are the usual breakfast suspects from pancakes and omelets to the fun options like "South of Border" options that included the chile Verde omelet, huevos rancheros, and steak, breakfast enchiladas. I was feeling fun and decided to order the chile Verde omelet. It came with pork Chile Verde, cheese, tortillas, and I chose rice and beans. There was the option of hashbrowns instead of rice and beans or toast instead of a tortilla, but how often do you get those options? The Chile Verde omelet was good, in fact, one of the best diner omelets I've had in a while. There was plenty of pork chile, and the omelet was filling. The rice and beans were great, and the corn tortillas were delicious. There were a few bonus tortilla chips too. I haven't been that satisfied with a diner meal in a while.   Cost: For my Chile Verde omelet and coffee, it was $14. Service: The staff was all friendly, and my food was ready when I got there. Everyone was wearing masks, and I felt comfortable inside. In all, a great experience. Overall Thoughts/Would I Come Back? If you are looking for a small-town diner, I definitely suggest Village Grill in Tehachapi, CA.  You won't find much healthy there, but it's inexpensive and good food.

Once again we are in Tehachapi, CA, getting fuel. Asked for a good place to eat and the clerk and another customer both said "The Village Grill". It was just down the street, so off we went. What a wonderful find. Smallish, with wonderful service and food. We ordered a ribeye breakfast that came with biscuits n gravy and I got scrambled eggs with ham, tomatoes instead of potatoes and an english muffin. The steak was a tiny bit chewy, but what a wonderful flavor and as you can see there was no skimping on the ham in my scramble. But what we enjoyed most was the wonderful service and all the locals chatting around us.

Tune amount on sourdough bread with seasoned fries and cornbread. I drizzled some honey and the fake butter. It was yummy.

Service was great - unfortunately food was not. Over cooked veggies, bland dry fried chicken.

Tuesday, March 10th, we traveled to Bakersfield to pick up a vehicle I had purchased, and of course had to stop by Kohnen's. My wife and I split a Tuna and Cheddar Panini, and a loaded Turkey (we arrived too late for Sourdough!!). It is difficult to walk away without a mini-pie (try them all, but blackberry is freaking amazing!!). As always, Danelle was there with her typical congeniality and work ethic! We love her!! And I got to tell her about her doppelgänger in a restaurant in Yucaipa!! They do exist!! In summary, eat at Kohnen's!! Say hi to Danelle!

I visited Kohnen's Bakery Tehachapi yesterday with my family, and this was honestly one of the…read moreworst customer service experiences I've ever had. I only purchased two items -- one cream puff and one slice of cheesecake -- but the cashier charged my card THREE times due to repeated mistakes. Here's exactly what happened: 1) My first card (Card A) was charged $11.20. The cashier asked me if I wanted a receipt, and I said yes. Then she told me the receipt didn't come out because the transaction "didn't go through," and asked me to provide my card again. 2) I gave the same card again, and this time she charged $11.69. 3) Then again, she told me that it didn't go through, so I used a different debit card (Card B), which was charged $11.20. While sitting at the table with my family, I immediately checked my bank account and thought I had only been charged twice. I spoke to a staff member at the store and requested a refund for one of the $11.20 charges, which was processed. However, today I realized I had actually been charged three times, meaning there was still another $11.20 that needed to be refunded. So I called the bakery and asked to speak with a manager. I spoke with someone named Danielle. I calmly explained the entire situation and told her I would send all my receipts and bank transaction records by email so they could double-check and confirm everything. She said ok and gave me their email address, but it was very long, and I was concerned about making a mistake while writing it down. So I politely asked if she could text me the email address instead. Her response was extremely rude -- she said, "I'm not required to do that," and told me to just write it down myself if I had a pen and paper. Although I was already uncomfortable with her attitude, I carefully wrote it down and sent the email. However, the email bounced back as invalid, even though I had confirmed the spelling with her multiple times over the phone. When I called again, Danielle answered and said, "Ma'am," in a very dismissive tone, and told me that they had found the three charges and had already processed refunds for both $11.20 transactions. I tried to confirm which card the refund was going to, since I used two different cards, but after putting me on hold for a long time, she read off a card number that was not mine. When I told her that wasn't my card, she insisted those were the only transactions for $11.20 yesterday and told me to "check my bank in a few days" and call back if the refund doesn't show up. And, she didn't apologize for the mistake, even though they charged my cards three times and wasted a significant amount of my time. Even yesterday, when I asked for an apology, I only received one reluctantly after I pointed out that they had made a mistake -- and even then, the response was dismissive, as if I should just accept it because they were "taking care of it." The attitude throughout this entire situation was rude, unprofessional, and extremely frustrating. The cheesecake was very good. But because of this experience, I would never come back. We drove all the way from Los Angeles to Tehachapi with my family, expecting a pleasant visit, but this bakery completely ruined the day. Being charged a total of $34.09 for just two small items due to repeated errors is unacceptable. If your staff cannot properly process payments, they should not be working as cashiers. Situations like this should never happen. What's even worse is that after making multiple mistakes, there was not a single sincere apology -- only attitude, dismissiveness, and instructions for me to keep checking my bank and call back again. My time is valuable. This entire situation could have been avoided if things were handled properly from the beginning. This was an extremely unpleasant experience, and I am very disappointed. Cf) For reference, the other $16.05 receipt is for bread that my brother purchased.

I've never had meat that tastes like this did. Then the lettuce was bright yellow. To be honest the best thing on the burger was the purple onion, and I HATE onion. Milk shake was super watery and bland. It taste like when someone tried to make a milk shake at home for the first time and blends ice cubes and milk with no sugar and thinks it's the same. It's not.... I literally took 3 drinks and thew the rest in the trash. The last photo is of what I threw away. I hate throwing away food but I couldn't bear to eat this stuff it was that bad. I had no idea how this place has any good reviews at all. This was hands down the worst meal I've had so far in life. Please save your money and stomach. Go to a gas station and you'll find better tasting food! Walking up I thought "hey this place seems a little rough around the edges they probably have great food!" As most small places that look like this do. I saw the water damaged windows, clacks in the walls and had hoped to find a jem but in fact found a turn. Not even a polled gold one just rotten and disgusting. The restroom was disgustingly filthy, had black marks all over it, I had to pee and ended up using my own hand sanitizer when I left because I didn't even want to touch the sink. There was black all over the sink, toilet was stained, all the devices covered in black marks. I'll never come back and warn you to do the same. I'm really sad to write this but I need to be honest. I hope they get some things fixed and learn how to treat customers one day.
