Aha! So this is where the not-hipster coffee drinkers are!! I don't think I've ever encountered such cheery staff, nor do I remember a coffee shop with all baby boomer baristas. I spotted what looked like a book group in one corner, and friends checking in for the morning. The shop is cute, with wall of tea and assorted gift items for sale. Great care was taken with my salted caramel latte, and I accepted the suggestion to add whipped cream for the full effect. Scones and baby quiches were available, as were a few dozen doughnuts (courtesy of a local pop-up doughnut maker). If you are looking for hipster vibe, you will be confused. Ordered a black coffee here. The blend was called "Red, white and blue". It was supposed to taste like blueberries and raspberries. I've had a lot of flavored coffees and they almost always fall short, but since I drink coffee black, I always give flavored coffees a shot, as I enjoy black flavored coffee more than "regular" coffee. Skeptically, I took a few sips of my hot "Red White and Blue" black coffee. Wow - you can actually taste the raspberry flavor, and barely a hint of blueberry as well. I was impressed. I'm 100% going back to try other flavors now. There are so many coffee shops, but this one manages to stand out, thanks to its entire wall full of fun sounding flavors. It's kind of a bummer that I've had to stop going to this coffee shop. I've been going here for years and remember when Pat opened the VG in Countryside. I grew up going to CTK in the early 90's, so Countryside Village was a staple after school. My family has been going here and supporting the shop for a long time (I miss the Bookworm days). Woman owned and local, it has components that are important to me and my family! Sadly I will no longer be supporting the shop as I have been treated very rudely by the owner every time I've gone in over the past few years when she's been working behind the bar. I know that Pat is running this business, but customer service is everything to me and this is not a one off occurrence. I wouldn't care to write this if I didn't witness her being kind to other "regular customers", but being out right rude to me. I am not expecting to have my name remembered, but when you've been supporting a business for as long as I have with my family, I'm tired of not being treated nicely when I've dropped a lot of $ in there over the span of 20+ years now. It's also worth noting that I think Pat might favor the customers she has that are on the more "well off" side, which is basically most of District 66... I also understand 2020 has been hard, but this was happening prior to covid and I just can't accept that I'm reading into her behavior too much. Sadly, I've confirmed this with other life long VG customers who have received similar treatment to me. Yes, the pastries, atmosphere, gifts, etc are great. The coffee is ok : / ... but sheesh, I'm sticking to supporting local coffee shops where everyone gets the same treatment (regular customer or not!). I also recognize Pat has a strong customer base and that this review will basically be moot to most, but I'd rather say my piece and let it live on the internet in case someone else feels the same. :) read more

Village Grinder at 87th and Pacific has gotten creative. Although no one can come in the store right now, they have installed a Dutch door in the front. The top half of the door is open like a serving hatch while the bottom half is closed. There's a menu board next to the door listing the various coffees, teas, and smoothies including creative new items such as corona cappuccino and social distancing latte. Inside right in front of the window is a tray of all the current baked goods with a basket outside that has day old baked goods. It's almost like business as usual. Almost. There's a virtual tour online showing all the coffee & tea items for sale inside plus the usual assorted gifts. There was a hand towel with a cute little rhyme about washing hands which of course I have forgotten. You'll have to check that out when you go there. I got my usual cappuccino which was as delicious as usual and a tasty chocolate chip muffin. While I was there a crowd of customers started to gather, looked like thirsty people from the neighborhood taking walks. The service is done with social distancing at the fore front. The person inside is masked & standing back from the door. They bring your order on a tray, extended to you to pick up your drink and place your payment. Credit cards & change are returned the same way. And if you want to, you can drink your coffee outside at one of three well-spaced red tables. Business the corona way! read more

Best coffee shop in Omaha! Often times at these small shops the drinks are overpriced and the service is sub-par...not at the Village Grinder! The inside is warm and inviting with lots of little gifts and unique items to see. They sell their own beans which are worth a try..especially the speciality flavors like coconut creme and toddy. You can tell they really care about the decor and are always switching it out for the seasons. Now on to the coffee...10/10! The menu is always changing with different lattes and cold drinks to match the season. You can never go wrong with a plain latte or americano. Also no worries, they have all the milk alternatives and are happy to make adjustments without an eye roll (like I have experienced from other shops) Whenever you need a morning pick me up and a nice place to go-stop here (and don't forget to grab a pastry on the way out, they are all homemade downstairs!) read more

I am a very loyal to village grinder and I go every day. which is why I am disappointed. All of the baristas I've met are very nice but the old lady that owns the place is extremely rude. She's done multiple rude things to me and people I've been with. I was standing in line and waiting to order when she shoved past me to get around. She didn't say excuse me or even look at me but instead pushed me out of the way and made me drop my AirPods case causing the earbuds to fly out and i had to walk around the shop to find it. She didn't even look back or apologize which I find very rude especially as I am a paying costumer. Another time my wife was going to the bathroom and texted me to bring her a tampon. I walked down to bring it to her and the same lady told me I had to wait upstairs until the bathroom was open. I tried to explain but she very rudely told me she did not care. The last straw was when I went in last week for lunch. I came in and bought a drink and then I sat down and pulled out a sandwich I had brought from home. Again the same lady came up and told me I was not allowed to eat outside food in there unless I was a costumer. I told her that I had bought a drink and she said it was still not allowed. I said okay and put it away but I was confused because it's no different from the sandwiches they sell I just hadn't bought it from them. I will no longer be going to village grinder for this reason and I am very hurt by the way they treat their costumers. read more

Saturday morning coffee clutch - we typically meet downtown, but one of us had a West O commitment, so we had to find a different venue. We like to support our local coffee shops, so Village Grinder trumped the Starbucks. Quaint little coffee shop in Countryside Village connected to the Bookworm, so you can wander in, out and around. Coffee cakes, scones, muffins - all fresh baked and homemade. Four types of coffee ready to pour (one flavored) at the help yourself coffee bar with plenty of sugar and cream. Paper cup with sippy lid? No problem. Real mug for adults? Got it. You can also order your lattes, mochas, teas and flavored drinks - a little something for everyone. As usual, Saturday morning coffee entertains with people coming and going for their coffee - late night party girl with last night's mascara down her cheek, blue haired girlfriends catching up on their health issues, college students with laptops squeezing in study time. Friendly service. Good coffee. Great baked goods. The only downside...small tables with less than comfortable chairs. read more

The village grinder is a staple here within countryside Village shopping center. The coffee house that has a wide variety of coffee beans, options for coffee whether you like a cappuccino, espresso, or just a plain black cup. The coffee shop also has fantastic accessories for those looking for interesting and unique gift items. Prices are reasonable for a coffee house where you know the beans are put on the grinder fresh and the coffee is brewed that morning. I also really enjoy the atmosphere which has clusters of tables for conversations. I wouldn't recommend a large group of people due to the largest table being able to hold 6 people but I would highly recommend it for smaller groups or if your looking to quietly read, have a study session or peacefully drink your coffee. The staff are delightful and very helpful. Just a few items to eat but what they did have in the case looked delicious. This might be the most adorable coffee shop ever. EVER. As I have the tendency to do, I made friends with a cousin of my husband's and we planned a coffee date while I was in town visiting my parents. She suggested Village Grinder and because I needed to get out of Bellevue, I yelled, "YES!" My husband tagged along because "Jessie is my cousin, not yours", and we met up here on the morning after Thanksgiving. First impression: cuteness. The varieties of tea take up one whole wall and are just begging you to come smell them. The seating is cozy and just plentiful enough. And the cinnamon rolls are way too enticing. I ended up with my usual soy mocha, and, believe it or not, it was way better than my normal Starbucks version. Such a great find! I'll be back next time I'm in town! read more

After moving here from Missouri finding my brand of coffee sold locally was a big deal. After some research I found that Village Grinder sales the brand. So today I went in hunt of my coffee. Unfortunately they only carry it during the Holiday season. When I entered I was greeted by a very pleasant women and then when I was leaving she ask me what I had decided on. As I was taking to her I explained that I was looking for a specific flavor that I can buy back home year round and didn't know if she was just out for the moment or until the winter. She stated that I was the 2nd person in 2 days to ask about it so she would look into caring it all the time. They have some very cute cups and other items as well. I will definitely be going back!!! *Update* I went back in today and they had ordered my favorite flavor of coffee in! I spoke with whom I assume is the owner, she remembered me and ask if I had gotten my flavor I requested. I expressed my excitement to finally have it in Omaha! Surprise stop on our Saturday shopping day. I had the Pacific Street Blend (a dark roast) and immediately put it in my top 3 in the city. The store has a nice, welcoming environment and there is a great selection of both whole coffee beans and various teas. The Village Grinder just lost my business!! I entered the coffee place one morning. As I entered I saw the owner because I had recognized her from a time I had been in before. She was happily talking to a customer and as I approached her to ask her about the bathroom she looked at me with disgust and didn't respond to my question. I thought maybe she didn't understand what I was saying. I proceeded downstairs to the bathroom. Later I when i got back upstairs i put my order in. I noticed the owner extremely friendly to almost everyone who walked in. She was also giving people free samples and coffee, everyone except me. My friend arrived and we sat and talked and had coffee. Halfway through our time together I had to go to the bathroom again. I went downstairs again and then when I finished I was walking back upstairs when I caught the eyes of the owner. I said, "oh sorry I had to use the bathroom again. She looked at me with a look of horror and disgust and did not say a word to me. When I got back to my friend I told her what was happening. Sure enough the owner kept going to tables chatting with people and giving them things but never even acknowledged my friend and I. We couldn't believe what was happening. I am Asian and my skin is dark. My friend is white. Everyone in the coffee shop was white upperclass or white middle class. Could I really have been experiencing racism first hand!?!? Or was it that I was a Christian and maybe she didn't like my spirit about me. My friend was able to tell the girl behind the counter making the coffee that we won't be back because the extremely rude treatment we both received. read more

Village Grinder is a great spot to gather with friends. At least that's what I observed Saturday morning when I stopped by. I went alone for a quick cup of coffee but everyone else there was paired with a partner or several friends and were all deep in conversation. Several of the tables had books and different materials spread in front of them as they conversed about a whole host of topics. It was nice to watch so many people enjoying themselves over a nice cup of coffee. Seating is a little limited as there is only a handful of tables but the atmosphere is quaint and quiet. There are bookshelves with a unique mix of merchandise for sale. Once the weather warms up, it'll be a great place to sit outside, drink coffee, and watch the passersby at Countryside Village. There's even going to be a car show this spring in the Countryside Village parking lot and I'm sure Village Grinder will be quite popular. What a fun little spot! read more

Today, when I entered with my dog (a service animal) on a leash, we didn't make it past the threshold and were met with a raised "stop" hand and told "we can't have dogs in here".
