My spouse wanted to know what I wanted to do for my birthday and Baker's Candies has been on my local "bucket list" for a while so off we went. It's about a 30 minute drive from Omaha and we had no problem finding it. My first impression was that it was way bigger than I expected and totally worth the trip!! I regularly buy Baker's chocolates at the grocery store but there was so much more selection and the prices were cheaper. For example, the bag of Patriotic Mix was $12.95 while it's usually $16.99 at Hy-Vee for the same thing. Besides the chocolates they are known for, they also had a large selection of saltwater taffy, fudge, and a ton of other candies, some I haven't seen since childhood. In addition to candy, they also sold a lot of locally made food stuffs like Rotella's bread, Mi Mama tortillas, Valentino's, Dorothy lynch, salsas, dips, jams, jerky, spaghetti sauce, you name it. They even had t-shirts, hats, and a refrigerated section for various meats. It was really cute inside and a lot of places for photo opportunities. There was a bench inside and a covered patio outside with a big parking lot. The staff were quick, efficient, and friendly. Glad I finally got to visit this place and I will be back again when my sweet tooth feels the need. :) read more

Baker's Candies was a fun little drive away from Omaha. The chocolates are great, and the candy selection is huge. After sampling a few of the chocolates, the chocolate/scooters coffee candies and the chocolate/orange were my top 2 favorites. Chocolate/raspberry and chocolate cherry were my daughter's top picks. I asked a few questions about their product and got just a first class tour of their store and what made it special. People that actually answered questions about favorite candies, and people that asked if they did not know an answer. Bakers Candies are the tastiest little morsels you can get, and worth the drive to get them in person, or order online. The chocolates are what they're famous for - and they're available in many stores in Nebraska (Hy Vee and Walgreens for sure). So we grab some whenever we see them locally in Omaha and have a craving! Their chocolate is of the absolute highest quality, literally melting in your mouth as you enjoy each piece. My favorite flavors are Dark Chocolate (blue wrapper), Chocolate Peanut Butter (brown wrapper), and Dark Chocolate Mint (green wrapper). But they are ALL good, so you can't go wrong with any flavor or mixed bag you may see for sale anywhere. Online-wise, I've only ever done the bulk (5 lb) bags for work events, and they were always a hit! Online, you can choose your different colors in bulk and then mix and match to your desired palette when they arrive (we did our logo colors: blue, green, and silver). Baker's Candies has been a favorite in Greenwood for many years. It's a huge warehouse-type space full of an enormous variety of candies. In addition to their signature Baker's chocolate meltaways, the store is packed with other candies made at the factory and much, much more. Today Bookguy bought a bag of salt water taffy and a bag of cherry flavored gummy candy. I just bought a piece of dark chocolate with cashews. We had our dogs with us so we couldn't really spend much time looking at all the delectable goodies. You won't find better chocolate anywhere in the Midwest. It's been nicknamed- Blue Collar Gourmet Chocolate and it's all made right there at the store in Greenwood, NE. There's so many good flavors, it's hard to pick a favorite, but I sure do like the dark chocolate cherry and the mocha. The coffee by far- when you can get it is just plain magic. Aside from their own chocolates, they also have a section of almost every other kind candy, from sour cherries to chocolate covered raisins, they've got it. What a lot folks don't know is they also have Valentino's pizzas (frozen) and a good selection from the Wahoo Locker including the world famous Wahoo Weiner! Just outside Omaha, all the candies my kids like are here. My husband and I went for fun on an off day to see what they had. People around here are really found of Baker's chocolates. With good reason. I hadn't heard about this until I moved to Nebraska but my first sampling of them, yeah, I understood. There are a lot of flavors and the chocolate stars out kind of cool to your tongue and melts like heaven. It's so smooth. I love chocolate. Anyway, my friend and I stopped at the Baker's Candies in Greenwood where the magic happens. We were hoping for a tour but they can't really do that for health reasons. I was recently introduced to Baker's candies by a colleague at work and have been buying bags at Hy-Vee on occasion since then. I then learned that they had a location out in Greenwood and we recently made the trip out there. Holy cow, what a gem of a location. Seriously. If you are a fan of candy, and you are a monster if you aren't (kidding, kinda), then you HAVE to get out to this place. They have all kinds of old school candies and of course they have their meltaways that I had enjoyed previously. They also have a huge case of chocolates from which to select. You name it, they have it. We tried the pecan cluster, chocolate covered pretzels, and a chocolate cluster with potato chips. All were great but the pecan cluster was the standout. It's exceptional. My wife is a pecan cluster fanatic and we both agreed it was the best one we ever had. It was so good but also huge. Honestly, it's nearly the size of my fist. Giant. But, also high quality. And, for $2.75, they were basically giving them away. Besides candy, they have a huge selection of specialty sodas and a section of Nebraska made products, like BBQ sauce and soup mixes. It's a Nebraska treasure and I am so sad it took us four years to make it out here. If I were you, I'd drive as fast as I can (legally of course) to check it out yourself. Headed back home from a vacation we decided to take a longer route back home just for the heck of it . As we were driving by Bakers Candies I got excited as I have not been in before so we decided to stop. I walked in and saw bins and bins full of candy , I grabbed a basket and took off running ( well walking briskly) . I was so thrilled to see all this deliciousness in one place. I choose to get the pick your own bulk as I prefer the milk chocolate over dark. They do have some pre-bagged but it was nice to pick and choose . I walked around and picked some taffy , mint melt aways and cinnamon toothpicks. I could have spent more time in the store but with family waiting I was trying to hurry. There is a wall full of coolers with different types of soda that I would love to try. Candy is in smaller bags which is nice because many of them were only a few dollars so you had a chance to grab some different ones. Staff was friendly and the room was big and clean. Plenty of people were walking around shopping which was lovely to see. I definitely will be back ... maybe tomorrow read more

Went here for the first time after hearing about it for a couple of months. The store (more like a warehous) smells like my childhood chocolate shop back in Richmond, Illinois. What a great smell of chocolate! The have candy upon candy and it's amazing! I have a gnarly sweet tooth! Tbh my main goal was to see if they had chocolate covered Oreos. My coveted chocolate form my childhood chocolate shop. Indeed they had some for $.60 a piece. What a deal! It tastes just as good as I remember my childhood chocolate covered Oreos!!! It all started when my sister and I were talking about how yummy Bakers chocolates were and how much we LOVED the scooters bakers chocolates candies... One evening I decided to look online to see if they had a website and then if they still had the scooters meltaways and then how much they would be. Lo and behold I found all of the above! Sadly, I didn't want to pay $9.95 flat rate shipping for them to ship from 30 mins away from where I live...or spend $100 just to have free shipping. So, I shared my findings with my sister and after hemming and hawing about how far the drive was, which really wasn't that far, we decided to go on an adventure with our friend Hannah to Bakers chocolates. It's probably the furthest I've been outside of Omaha/Gretna in that direction but it was soOoo worth it!! They even have MORE than just their own bakers chocolates. They have fudge, old school candies, and gift sets galore of bakers chocolates in mugs, boxes, 2 pound bags, seconds, a bunch of stuff!! It was so much fun shopping through the different candies they carry and just being at the actual place where all the bakers meltaways magic happens!! Baker's Candies is the reason I frequently take Highway 6 between Lincoln and Omaha. It's a chocolate and sugar lover fantasy. The chocolate melt aways are always a good choice and you can get factory seconds here for about half price. They may not be as pretty, but they taste just as good. I love to get the milk chocolate covered potato chips. They also have them in dark chocolate. I don't think these are available during the warmer months. I also love the chocolate covered coffee beans. And chocolate covered cashews. Excellent quality chocolate..the dark chocolate melt always are the best! I love chocolate (and typically eat way too much, too fast!) and this is the best, freshest tasting chocolate I've ever eaten. Enjoy letting the chocolate literally melt in your mouth and savor every bit. I recently visited the factory outlet and sampled fresh, soft caramels at the register. Simply delicious. Don't waste your money on fancy, highly commercial grade chocolate...(Lindt, Godiva, See's)...Baker's exceeds these brands. The only down side (?) is that they won't hold their shape in baked goods (due to the absence of waxes). But don't let that stop you from trying all flavors. Well done!!! read more

Yum! These Nebraska-made candies are always a hit with out-of-state visitors.

This "factory store" offers a huge array of chocolate candies, most of them chocolate-coated-something-or-other, and a case full of large "gourmet" chocolate clusters (potato chips, rice krispies and marshmallow, coconut, etc.) I wish that the signage indicated that the company makes the items in the case and the rest are made by others, but at least the quality of the items store-wide seems consistently good. The young lady behind the counter at the factory store could not have been more lackadaisical; she couldn't even be bothered to come to the counter to take my order. But I won't count that much against the place, since the big issues are the chocolate quality, prices, and selection -- all of which are positives for this place. The signage really is lacking and the staff is young-and-careless, but it's still worth the stop for the sake of the product. I picked up about $50 worth of chocolates to send as gifts, share with co-workers, and treat myself -- and got a very substantial range for that amount; the bags here seem to be about $2.50-$5 depending on the variety. Selections range from your choice of dark or milk chocolate covered gummy bears, coffee beans, almonds/pecans/walnuts/brazil nuts and others in vast variety, licorice, meltaways, vintage brand items, candied sunflower seeds, and on & on. The store itself is about 3 times the size of a Sees or Russell Stover store. And they carried chocolate-covered "seafoam", which is very hard to find and one of my favorites! Now if only they could be arsed to come over to help me, instead of expecting me to yell over to them 15 feet away! I'd also have been much happier if they had an ability to make up a gift box of chocolates, instead of throwing everything into bags. read more

We just happened to be driving by this week and stopped in. I having been enjoying their chocolates for years but was not aware of their location. Wow! They have so many more varieties in the store than I had seen before. It was so difficult making up our minds what to bring home with us. And they had sugar free selections too. Their was even a counter with fresh made individual patties of many varieties. I was in chocolate heaven. I love their candies and cannot wait to tell my daughter. She likes to take Baker's Chocolates back to Texas with her when she visits us in Omaha. We will be coming back. read more
