I drove 20 miles out of my way to get my first ever grill. I could have called and ordered it (already knew the color/model) but wanted to see what all the hype was about since this store is mentioned at least every Saturday on the Garden Sense program (105.9 FM) WMAL which I listen to religiously (RIP Jos Roozen). I would say this store would be a guys heaven for hardware. Me, not so much because it was like a hoarders dream. They seemed to have shortage of employees and the Weber room was in a super secret hiding place that a customer walked me to. It's also in weird old school strip shopping center. All else aside, They exceeded my expectations and I"m so happy I got my grill and accessories there. It's a family owned and run business and I am so happy I skipped the Home Depot 1 mile down the road. Oh, delivery and set-up were free! I LOVE Village Hardware! I recently purchased an amazing Weber grill there. The service was awesome! Everyone was super helpful. I even got white glove service to my house. They came out and set everything up and even left the cover on it for me! I was so pleased that I have returned several times. I can spend hours at Lowes. Really. (OK, if I had hours on my hands, I could spend them at Lowes. But, extra time is not a luxury that I have. Moments - that's about all I can muster during the week.) Anyway, suffice it to say that I am not immune to the allure of the big huge hardware / home shop. That being said, I am all about supporting my little local hardware store. It's much, much smaller than one of the big box shops, but they are well stocked and very helpful. Especially for spring! The sidewalk out front is overflowing with gardening and grilling equipment. It's right down the road, and it's much easier for me to get in, get what I need, and get home and tend to the task at hand. read more

This place is a classic: a small neighborhood hardware store from another, better time. They have most of what you will need to maintain a household. If they don't have it in stock (which is rare and actually quite impressive given the modest size of the place), they can order it for you from their suppliers, all you have to do is ask. I have been going here for 15 years and have made a number of important purchases here like a Weber grill and Toro lawnmower (they assembled both at no additional charge). They have extensive and up to date stock for both of these name brands. Their prices are comparable to what you would find at the larger store and you get the added satisfaction of supporting a local business. Seriously, forget Lowes and Home Depot. These guys actually give a damn about what they're doing instead avoiding any human contact. The basement is like Willy Wonka's BBQ Supply Store. Great selection of garden supplies, quality tools, and just about every screw, bolt, nut, and tool you'll ever likely need. In the summer, they roll out the BBQs and hand out complimentary wings and hotdogs. A great little neighborhood store. There are far too few of them left. read more

It took four (4) hours for me to buy my Weber grill over the phone and have it assembled and delivered to my backyard by the friendly and accommodating folks at Village Hardware. I made the call at 11:45 am and had the grill on my patio at 4:00 pm for the evening meal that same day. Way to go!!! Come to find out that upon assembly of my grill by Village Hardware, a burner was damaged as shipped from the manufacturer and rather than slap it together and deliver a hidden problem for me to discover, Village Hardware found and installed a replacement burner assembly and put the unit together correctly and tested it to ensure all worked correctly. This is a big ethical deal to me because it now promotes a trusting relationship as they took care of me when I wasn't looking. Trust is a big deal in life. In my case, the difference in me choosing where to spend my hard-earned money is the one-on one customer focus and service orientation shown by Village Hardware versus the apathy, indifference and ignorance displayed for virtually the same money from the big box retailers where I would wait for weeks to get a damaged (or wrong) grill delivered by an indifferent delivery driver. Life is too short to deal with the big box nonsense when you can deal with people who'll show respect and understand what you need and give it to you without hassle. In the final analysis, it is worth it for me to deal with people I can trust. Over the long term....it doesn't cost...it pays. Thanks to Village Hardware for the rewarding experience in traditional American values. I will return for more of the same as the need arises. Thanks for taking care of me when I wasn't looking. This is the best place ever. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and a great selection. During the blizzard last winter, our heater began blowing cold air due to a dirty air filter. My husband called Village Hardware three minutes before closing time. They held the store open and waited for him to get there. I have no idea what we would done otherwise--everywhere else was closed. You sure don't find many places like that anymore!!! We avoid Home Depot for hardware items as much as possible and buy almost everything here. read more

Village hardware reminds me of a down home country hardware store; the one where everybody could know your name. The store has a plethora of Benjamin Moore paint colors, which happened to be our sole purpose for shopping here. There are a lot of employees here eager to help you find what you are looking for......Curt was incredibly helpful in locating the paint swatches and after we picked paint colors, he had them mixed for us in a timely fashion. Really enjoy coming to this side of town as it feels like a little escape from the city when shopping. read more

I bought a Big Green Egg grill elsewhere, but bought accessories for it at Village Hardware. They were great not only in giving me advice about the accessories, but also in giving me general advice about the grill that was extremely helpful, even though I didn't buy it there (I wish I would have). Turns out when my grill was delivered, the bands on it weren't adjusted quite right, which I never would have known to check for had it not been for Village Hardware. Also, while I was looking through some of the accessories, there was another guy looking for a replacement part for his Weber grill who wanted to confirm he had the right one, and the Village Hardware guy not only advised him on the part, but also told him that he was probably under warranty, and offered to call Weber for him right then to confirm. I'm not a big reviewer - so when I post one be sure it's for a reason. I located Village Hardware on my Yelp app while waiting at Home Depot. I went to the aforementioned Big Box Store to try and purchase a Weber grill. I had done my research, knew which grill I wanted to purchase, and only needed a Home Depot employee to locate one of the eight their website said were in store so I could roll it out to my car. When I arrived at Home Depot, there was not surprisingly nobody around the grills to help me. When customer service was finally able to locate someone, I casually asked him what his opinion was of the grill I intended to purchase. His response was, "Hmm. Well, if you want to buy it, it's probably good, right?". I already knew that I wanted that particular model, but I was hoping for more than this since I was prepared to drop close to $600 for a grill and accessories. To make a long story short, I waited for over an hour while said Home Depot employee wandered around the store looking for one of the eight grills the store supposedly had (in between taking a break and helping other people looking to buy potting soil and light bulbs). I finally got fed up and pulled my Yelp app to find out who else nearby sold Weber grills. I came across Village Hardware, called, spoke to Tyler who seemed to know his stuff backwards and forwards, and decided to leave Home Depot and take my business elsewhere. My experience at Village Hardware couldn't have been different to what I experienced at Home Depot. The store is definitely a throwback to my childhood when hardware stores were actually fun places to go to, and you didn't need running shoes to try and locate everything in under an hour. I met Tyler who knows more about Weber grills than most people know about anything. He talked to me for 30 minutes about my options, and helped me choose the right grill. I ended up with the same one I originally picked out, but not before having the chance to learn about Weber, grills, grilling, warranties, replacement parts, and lots more stuff a first-time grill purchaser would want to know. I could have taken the grill home with me that day, but I instead chose to have the store deliver it to me the next day. The delivery truck arrived right when they said they would, carried my fully-assembled grill to my back patio, wiped it down to make sure it shined, gave me a quick tutorial, and wished me happy grilling. Overall, I can't say enough good things about my experience at Village Hardware. While I've only purchased a $500 grill from them, I imagine their service for a $.10 screw or bolt is just as good. Do yourself a favor and give them a try, especially if you're in the market for a Weber. read more

I've always appreciated convenience and friendly service. When I bought $125 weed whacker it worked for about 10 minutes when thread stopped feeding. I reviewed directions and fiddled with it for about an hour, going to buy new thread before giving up. When I returned to store, I was told there were no exchanges or returns, that the "boss" had same model that worked fine, and they could demonstrate it for me. I left it there, wrote off the $125 as lesson learned, and bought new weed whacker at Lowes. My fault for not checking beforehand on exchange/return policy. read more

I am always a huge fan of small family owned businesses. They are disappearing all too quickly. My spouse and I went to the store specifically to buy a grill. The store has a great selection of quality grills and the staff on hand is knowledgeable about all of them. After a few weeks of owning the grill we ran into some problems with it and Alan was quick to make efforts to correct the problem. I was VERY impressed by their customer service and in general just really, really like the store. It's mom and pop through and through. Good products with fair prices. And quite honestly, I would rather pay more just to make sure this place stays open. A definite community treasure. read more

I called a week or so before Christmas to inquire about whether they had a specific Weber grill in stock. It was a brand new model and everywhere else was out of stock. To my surprise they said they had it so I drove there to make the purchase from my work in Sterling, VA. A very pleasant associate greeted me when I first got there and I told him what I was there for. He went and got the owner, Larry for me. I could tell right away that Larry was a good guy. His customer service was top notch. A young man by the name of Tyler was also there and very accommodating scheduling the delivery of our new grill. The men that delivered were very polite. Even after the sale, I spoke with Larry's son, Brendan who was also just as kind and accommodating as can be. I told my husband from the first interaction with Larry that we will make special trips to give this hardware store our business. Also, don't let the storefront fool you. This store is multi-level and huge inside. They have everything you could want or need and if they don't I'm sure they can order it. Support your local business at Village Hardware of Alexandria. We were in the market for a new Weber grill and every where we went in Maryland including Home Depot, Hardware City , Lowes, etc., it was impossible to find someone who was could answer our questions and did offer assembly, delivery or service. Heard about Village Hardware and took a drive over to Alexandria and what a pleasant surprise! They were knowledgable and courteous and offered to assemble and deliver our new grill to Maryland. Here is the bonus! They said they would take our old grill away! They delivered our new grill the next morning before 10 am (by the owner and one of his sons). They set it up and demonstrated it for us. They could not have been nicer and more accommodating. We have now found another reason to do business in Virginia. On our trip home, we stopped by another favorite place-Total Wine, and then filled up our gas tank!! We will be making many more return trips to Village Hardware!!! read more

Great store with just about everything Lowes and Home Deport carry, but without the fuss and long lines.
