They are like Make a Wish but with less restrictions, and they only serve children in Texas. My daughter is a liver transplant recipient and she wished to go to Disney World and dine with the Princesses. Make a Wish (still a great organization) denied her saying her transplant wasn't recent enough. A Wish With Wings granted her wish in 2011 and we had the time of our lives! They were so kind, organized, and genuinely care so much for the children and families they serve. They even offer continuing events and contact with families after the wish has been granted. Fantastic people and cause.

After a bit of confusion on which building the office was physically located (5th floor of the large glassed building ATTACHED to la Gran Plaza) we arrived and was greeted by friendly staff and invited to make ourself comfortable while the tester was preparing our paperwork. There were several people in the waiting area when we arrived, but the wait itself wasn't very long. Within a few minutes we were each seeing a Behavioral Therapist. The staff seemed very knowledgeable and nonjudgmental...they were very professional. After a few questions and a quick finger prick we had our STI Test results back within 20 minutes (or less) and was out the door with a special "goodie bag". Every agency has funder imposed barriers that will stymie the ability of said agency to serve EVERY person, yet the real OGs will find a way, when the will of the client is strong enough. Opening Doors for Women in need is a hub for women in all situations of disadvantage, that need a hand up. The BEAUTIFUL space that the physical location occupies offers rehabilitative classes, vocational opportunity and educational avenues for the participants of the program. A true "third space" to call their own. Scattered throughout the community are residential homes that operate as transitional homes. Understand this - you have to pay a very small deposit, and you will have up to 6 housemates. You are required to wake at 6 and be out of the house during work hours in most instances. You have chores and duties each day, and you pay a rent. However, as transitional homes go it is very minimal in comparison to market rates. However, if your situation is truly one of need, you will gladly adhere to these rules and regulations, with a kind "thank you," understanding that the best growth blooms in adversity. If you lose sight, Ms. Sandra is one to look to to regain your vision. Opening Doors for Women in Need is a blessing to the community, to fellow social service agencies and to every client that they come in contact with.

They have been doing such great work and continue doing a lot for the community. The staff are so hardworking, caring, friendly, amazing and go above and beyond to help their community. Other than being able to thrift shop, they also have some free items and food that they provide. I'm so thankful and grateful for them and will continue to support by buying items and spreading the word about them. Just a friendly reminder, grants are not forever and not everyone has access to having one. In order for them to continue helping and doing so much for the community and beyond, they need funds to be a float. Please be mindful and don't be quick to judge because things are getting more expensive, and they also provide food. They are all about helping with the main essentials and sometimes other needs when they have the capacity to do so. Their items are the most affordable compared to all the thrift stores I've been to, and they also have some items that are brand-name and priced accordingly, but again not at ridiculous prices like other places.You can also donate clothes, diapers, etc. and you can drop them off right at the back of their location in a pink bin. Just push the bag/s into the opening, and they will go right in. Thank you Dorie, Kiama, volunteers, and everyone who has helped and or continues helping them etc. I greatly appreciate you all for all you've done and continue doing. All of you are the best.
