Lovely little spot off the main drag. The server was solo so, understandably, she was longer than normal to greet us. Excellent value for the money, food is prepared from scratch and really good. Breakfast yes, they do good food. But everything else noooooo! It's just awful, cold mashed potatoes and over fried foods.

We were our way to a dude ranch in Warrensburg and decided to visit family on the way. Pulled of the thruway and bam, this little diner was there. The place was very clean and the staff was very friendly. Locals were eating there so you know it's a good place. Lois was taking care of us and she was awesome, gave me a few choices of the most popular breakfast dishes. I had the garbage omelette, ham, onions, tomatoes, peppers and cheese. I looked through the menu and noticed the "boom sauce" and orders a side of that (if you like spicy then try it. Just the right amount of heat) the kids had blueberry waffles and chocolate chip pancakes, dad in law had the Mexican omelette (had an entire Mexican spiced burger chopped into it) portions were huge and the price was great! Breakfast and lunch To call this place a country diner does it a disservice - it was a great little find on a long road trip and we loved eating here. The little town of Canajoharie sits on exit 29 off the NY State Thruway and we had been driving for about 4 hours and needed to stretch and eat breakfast. We popped off, rolled into the small town and found the Village Restaurant. We walked and in and were greeted warmly - grabbed two stools at the counter and got things rolling with very good coffee. The ladies working here are awesome and the place is hopping. Small town type restaurant where you can pretty much watch everything going on from the counter seats- the cooks in the rear, the busboy doing the dishes, the food moving back and forth to the hungry diners. As you can imagine, coming from Long Island, we found the prices extremely decent and when you consider every egg dish has 3 eggs in it, it is a great deal. My girl had one of the special omeletes and proclaimed it the best she ever had - I went with my usual western and it was perfect. Home fries and rye toast rounded out the meal and I could not finish it all. Great service, great prices and super friendly help - you seriously have to pull off the road and find this place. They have the best strawberry & pecan waffles! We were given four separate halves because there was one waffle maker and the two of us ordered waffles. They wanted us to be able to eat at the same time so they separated the waffles for us. Extremely affordable with endless breakfast and lunch options served all day long! I have never been here before and had no idea what to expect. The service was ok, they took our order quickly, but our waitress never came back and asked if we needed anything else, or how our meal was. There was another waitress going around refilling coffee, but since I wasn't drinking coffee, no refills for me. The food? Portions were large, but the taste was bland. No seasoning at all on the home fries, over fried and hard. The omelet was barely warm and again, no seasoning. We ordered texas toast, french toast and it was the smallest bread I have ever seen, soggy and tasteless. The bacon tasted like it was cooked last week and heated up. Sunday, January 22, 2012 about 10 AM First thing I noticed was a Christmas tree with plastic snowflakes in the entry way. When I got in the building I noticed larger snowflakes and valentine decorations. It looked weird. The counter also looked weird. it was low to the ground and so were the stools. It looked like it was designed for midgets. When I finally found a table, I discovered they all had a doorbell on the wall. not sure what that was for. I was afraid to touch it. Now moving on to the service. Remember it was early Sunday. Service was slow. it took a long time for our meal to arrive. The food was good, the coffee not so good. The place was pretty clean and so was the bathroom. When it came time to pay the bill, I got a good view of the kitchen. I saw most of the staff waiting in line to grab plates. That's to many hands touching my stuff. I also noticed the staff washing dishes by hand. that made me just cringe. So what do I really think? For a small town diner it is OK. I don't think I would want to eat there on a regular basic though. read more

This is a small town diner just off I-90. Pretty much a standard spot you'll see anywhere. The staff is nice enough with a small town feel. The coffee is good, after that ... Meh. I was pleased to see they had a steak and eggs breakfast. I asked if they have A1, she said yes. She brought my food saying "oops, forgot your A1!". Then brought me some no name brand steak sauce that was horrid. Oh, and when she brought it called it A1. I know people out there share my feelings here... We regretted not ordering the turkey dinner which had been roasted fresh that morning, according to our server. We believed her because everything seemed fresh. The service was quick. Overall friendly service but pretty awful lunch/dinner food. My wife, two kids, and I got off the NY Thruway at exit 29 hoping to avoid the fast-food fare at the service areas and get some small-town good eats. The Village seemed like a homey diner with homemade food. The food we got though was poorly made and bland. Fried chicken basket came wtih instant mashed potatoes; the chicken was overcooked and greasey. Wife's salad was wilted and had raw white onion on top. Dressing for the salad tasted off like it had been sitting in the fridge too long. The kids got pancakes that weren't bad but nothing special. We sat at the coutner and the service was friendly. Most of the patrons were older adults ordering breakfast items and coffee. read more

I went in to the village restaurant for the first time this morning with the hopes of a good meal. The server took our drink order and then NEVER came back to take our order. There was only one other table in the whole restaurant at the time. We waited 15 minutes before we finally had enough and left. Terrible service. read more

I've eaten here twice, once for brekkie and once for dinner. As it is simply a diner, there's not a whole lot of expectations. However, the pecan waffle was better than what I had at a Waffle House! This place is a little gem! Quite & easy exit/ proximity to the thruway, darling town & a nice little family owned diner. A piece of small town Americana. We stopped here for lunch with our young sons who loved sitting at the counter with low stools. At one point our little one got pinched by his brother (...) and the 3 sweet older ladies at the counter were on him like ants on a cup cake with ice, love & encouragement to us (their perpetually overwhelmed parents). I stopped in here with my family for lunch off the highway and was not impressed. Let's just say their food pyramid is primarily made up of butter. They also only accept cash, which is inconvenient. There wasn't much in the area, so we didn't have much choice, but if in the area around meal time again, we would keep driving. read more
