Absolutely fabulous find in downtown Fort Plain. We have been going here for years and have NEVER had a bad meal. Local fresh food cooked to perfection!!! REAL FOOD!!! Very unique pairing of different foods. Extremely friendly staff It's great being able to watch the chef cook with the open kitchen. Well ran. They also have great beer/wine options. The menu changes with season so it's always fun to see his new creations. We call ahead for reservations but I know people that have just walked in and got a table. Plenty of parking out front. What a surprise! This is gem for this area! Coming Manhattan, I was impressed with the quality of food and the eclectic menu. The portions are big! For me an appetizer from here could be my main course. What's interesting is that every plate we ordered was excellent. My duck wing had crisp light skin but juicy meat. I seldom find duck wings this juicy. It reminded me of a perfect Korean chicken wing. It also has a coating of the Korean style sweetish sauce like Bon Chon. I thought it was laying on noodles but it was the chef's own string potato chips that looked like a big bird's nest. I also loved the mahi mahi fish tacos. Coated with light crisp batter and fried perfectly. The pieces were big! It lay in soft taco with squash and veggies under and a great sauce plus a grilled or was it fried piece of pepper. You get 2 tacos on the big plate at that. The pepper on top had a little kick which was delightful for me. I was getting a bit full by the time I got to the flat bread (size of a while pizza cut in 4s). This had diced squash, caramelized onions, and specs of melted blue cheese. Not in picture was the blue cheese soup with bacon pieces. The duck breast entree was again perfectly done to the pink. A great upscale diner in a quaint upstate village. We were attended to promptly and even got to meet the chef, despite it being the dinner rush. Food was priced high, but the quality was worth the cost. We will be back through next time we are in Eastern NY. read more

Give it a chance! Fresh farm to table! My family and I went there passing through these small towns and have this place a chance. We were thoroughly impressed, it has a very expensive 5 star restaurant and kitchen feel in a old fort plane town building that gave it a good rustic feel. I got the pork chop and it was honestly the best cooked, flavored pork chop I have ever had in my life. It had a great light sweet and spicy sauce on top and sat on green beans with cooked potatoes. My dad got the fish and chips and my mom got the salmon. The food was presented very nice everyone there tried very hard to make our experience a good one. Overall, I would make this a common dinner place, however it is a little pricy. read more

Real gem in beautiful Fort Plain. The duck wings alone are worth a drive from the Capital District. Enormous salads made for sharing, great wine and craft beer selection and knowledgable servers willing to accommodate special food needs. If it's not locally sourced it's not on the menu. Cities 10x this size do not have a restaurant this fine. Save room for the house made desserts especially the apple tart. Chef actually touches tables and insure everything is perfect. My steak was excellent as well as the asparagus and leek soup (I ordered another soup to go). Husband had the seared duck breast with rhubarb gastrique and he said it was the best duck he's ever had. Just returned from a wonderful night at The Table at Fort Plain. We travelled 60 miles to met old friends half way for our homes and landed at this well kept secret in dining. Aaron and his serve staff are well versed in fine dining preparation. The menu offers a variety of exquisitely prepared dishes and wonderful dessert endings. Had a disappointing experience on our only visit. Made reservations but during that call was not informed of a pre-fix menu. We accepted our fate and settled in for... a 25 minute wait for a drink at their bar. Servers came and went ... and came and went. Beer selection was okay but with rotating taps, that's how it is sometimes. We aren't picky, and we enjoy each other's company and if the foods good - we are happy. While the appetizers were decent - the steak that came for the entree was among the most disappointing I have had. The meat appeared to be cut on the wrong angle, and we both ordered it MR-Med. The steak was stringy, and was rare and cold to the touch on the inside. We did ask the server about it and her response was "That's how they cook medium rare" and then she was off. No offer to fix it. I ate the edges, our plates were cleared (server didn't bat an eye at the fact that 80% of the steak was untouched.) After a standard industry dessert, bill was delivered with a thank you but no eye contact. Total for two apps, 2 entrees, 2 desserts, a beer, and a flight of 3 4oz glasses was $179 plus tip. We really wanted to like this place, and probably will try it again. We just didn't have a great first impression. read more

Was driving from Syracuse back to Massachusetts and came across this place just off the thruway. First, let me set the scene. This is an incredibly small town, nothing here and the only reason I knew to stop at all was because I Yelped along my route and this place had some really nice reviews. I walked in at just after 6:00 pm on a Wednesday (I think they are only open Wed-Sun) and there were only 2 other diners in the place. When I finished and left at around 8 pm I hadn't seen any other diners and they locked up behind me. Cute little restaurant. The hostess/waitress was a young girl, very helpful and attentive (I'm sure it helped that there was no one else there!). They have a constantly changing menu and specials on top of that. I started with an appetizer they had on special, it was an andouille sausage and pepper on some bruschetta and it was really excellent. I followed that up with the ribeye which came with green beans and mashed potatoes. Everything was cooked perfectly. The green beans were remarkable in that they were amazingly crisp as if they were raw yet cooked all the way through hot, I'm really not sure how the chef was able to get them so crisp and yet hot all the way through. The steak was cooked exactly as I ordered and seasoned well. The one negative was the sauce that came on the steak was not my favorite, it wasn't necessarily a bad sauce it just wasn't to my taste. I will definitely look to stop here on my next trip through the area and try something else. I definitely recommend swinging in and giving The Table a try. read more

In town for a special occasion and took my family and friends to a new establishment although it's been here three years. I looked on yelp and got awesome reviews for this restaurant and we decided to try it on a Saturday night. Although it is not touted as a vegan friendly, the chef made a personal appearance to my table and made sure that my dish was made special as he eats very much like a vegan. I let him surprise me and he served in a pan crusted tofu with mushrooms and I miso kimchi sauce that was to die for. The service was fabulous, and the ambience was conducive to a wonderful dinner, Which was such a surprise and treat for Fort Plain. I have included pictures of our dinners and I by far recommend the chocolate brownie sundae over all of the desserts. It was beyond what I expected, As we ordered the dark chocolate and coffee moose which was very fresh, the peanut butter and chocolate tort which was a tad on the sweet side. The over all Takeaway is you cannot go wrong and the seating is spaced accordingly so you have your privacy yet can enjoy the ambience of the room. Our waitress was Becca and her enthusiasm and skills were equal to any restaurant in New York City I've ever been to. One of the best meals I've had in this area. Place is clean, tables are well spaced, nice French bistro music in the background. Young waitresses were competent and helpful. Risotto app with shiitake and chestnuts was amazing. our party had lamb, gnocchi and filet, all were excellent. The Table at Fort Plain is the textbook definition of a hidden gem. My boyfriend and I are staying in Little Falls for the weekend and needed a good dinner spot tonight. A few nearby options came up, but The Table peaked our interest based on photos and reviews, of course. Appetizer: the hand-cut chips with aioli were just an awesome way to start our meal. They're light and crispy, but oh so flavorful. The aioli has the perfect kick to it. Meal: I went for the baseball steak and didn't regret one bite. It was cooked to perfection and everything from the sauce to accoutrements was flawless as well. My boyfriend got the seared salmon. He only let me have one bite- that should tell you it was delicious :) Other: we weren't going to get dessert- and we didn't order it- but along with the check, the super sweet waitress brought a half-portion of the evening's special orangey-bourbon cake. It was heaven! (And I'm usually not huge on orange-infused desserts). We met the chef, as he visited each table, and he was so delightful. It was clear that he takes pride in his work and genuinely cares about what his guests think of their experience. It's unlikely that we'll end up back in this area, but if we ever happen to find ourselves out here, we will ABSOLUTELY dine again! read more

Wow! This place was just unexpected in a town like Fort Plains. I come from Vegas and work in the casino industry so I am no stranger to fine cuisine. But all i can still say is WOW. The menu is constantly adapted to the items in season and grown locally in central NY. The service was wonderful and attentive. Our sever really was able to describe the layers of the dishes so we could make a choice we knew we'd be happy with. Creative cuisine like pickled ramps with an appetizer to a MOUTH WATERING filet. The chef even greeted us and asked our opinion which, needless to say, was outstanding. He just truly showed he wanted people to enjoy what he made and was ready to correct or please if their original order didnt. Do not miss this restaurant if you're driving anywhere near Fort Plain. I can't believe this is in Fort Plain and hidden from mainstream. Make the trip but be prepared to make a tough decision--- there was not one thing on the menu that wasn't appealing. We did the fish and chips, rib eye and swordfish. All were amazing and the bird dock appetizer was off the charts. Wide beer and wine selection were great. What is this place doing in Fort Plain? I heard rumors of this unbelievably good restaurant with food that tasted like it was from NYC, and I thought it was ridiculous. But this place is pretty awesome. I ordered duck, and it was a little chewy. I got it medium, but it could have been cooked better. I had to do the old chew-and-spit so I didn't eat a bunch of sinew. Still, it tasted really good and the presentation was lovely. I got this ridiculously creative/cool/weird dessert that was like freeze-dried green tea ice cream cut into triangles. Yeah, it's hard to explain. It was awesome though. The chef here is very creative, and apparently the menu changes nightly. The prices are really reasonable for high-quality food. Everything on the menu sounded great, and I had a hard time deciding what to order. Everyone in my party was satisfied, except my grandma (who ordered some weird deep fried fish thing... Which I knew was a bad idea). I would love to go back and try some of the other stuff on the menu. Props to the chef for being really innovative and coming up with ideas I never would have thought of in my wildest food-dreams. read more

Chef Aaron makes wonderful food, way above much of the cooking you will find anywhere. For it to be located in Fort Plain, in the Mohawk Valley, far from any urban or even sub-sub-urban area is something of a miracle. I've been there about 5 times now, as I travel up that way monthly. First - wonderful soups! The menu changes so I won't give a specific recommendation. If it sounds good, it will be. Entrees - There's usually a limited selection. This is a place in a small town; drawing a small crowd, unless there's something booked: no way that The Table could present an overlarge menu and do it so well. Go to the website http://thetableatfortplain.com for samples. What my SO and I have had that we liked - a lot - includes: Seared Duck Breast, Roast lamb, Scallops in a lemon sauce, and even the Fried Haddock is special. All with delicious and creative sides, based on herbs and vegetables in season. There's a couple of local beers, along with some standards and wines. If you go there, this is about 3.5-4 miles from the Thruway exit ( # 24) in Canajoharie; less than 30 miles from Cooperstown, and about 46 miles west of Albany via the Thruway ( measured from exit 24, the Northway exit). My thought is also - if you are traveling with a large group, I'd give the Table a call ahead of time. If you are traveling through that way this spring, summer or fall, give it a try. You'll enjoy it. Your support will guarantee that I can keep going back! (as in he won't leave). Note - I don;'t know if they have hard liquor as I drink beer or wine. read more

I am not dising fort plain but I didnt except this to be so good. everything is cooked to order and very reasonable prices. soup salad and dinners are all separate. you dont get alot of food, the food you get is delicious. We had really bad experience here. We have ordered scallops ($27) and T bone steak ($31). At the price level of this place, we expected pretty good food, but it was just average, if that. There was some bitter taste to scallops and T bone was kind of blah. On top of that, we had to wait one hour and ten minutes to get our food. The server would just come every 15 minutes and cheerfully announce the food is going to be ready "in a minute". When we asked at one hour mark why we have to wait so long, the server became upset and said, well, you know, "we had to serve four couples first who came just before you". The place looks pretty average, definitely below the price level they charge. The menu is a work of art with even the most trivial words replaced by French esoteric (regional?) equivalents. My wife is fluent in French, but even she didn't know the meaning of half of the words on the menu . Well, at least the menu kept us occupied for some time while we waited for our food. Based on our overall experience, the menu seemed rather pretentious after the fact. It should be noted, that we were coming from the trail and were dressed in our active outdoor clothes. I can only speculate that they gave preferential service to their regular customers or better dressed people, who knows? The décor made me sad, though, with the exception of the many framed antique local photographs.
