Wow, is all I can say! (In just the best way possible) I went in and had an Italian iced coffee and hadn't had one in quite some time. Even-though I went there as they were right about to close I didn't feel rushed out. I love supporting family owned businesses and it was clear that the brother and sister running their store took pride in what they had. Their vegetarian burrito was delicious, it paired nicely with the Raspberry Italian soda that I had. I love their selection of coffee beans, it's the only place in town that has such an assortment. Village Roaster has consistently good coffee, which I think is where they started, then branched into tea. I've purchased so many coffees, lattes, ground coffee and beans from here and it's always very well done and high quality. I must say, though, that they completely fail when it comes to my new favorite drink, London Fog. I've tried three (two from the hospital location where they were both massive failures) and one from the Garrison Street location. Even that one was bad. I will be going elsewhere for my London Fogs now. It would be a great idea for Village Roaster to do some recipe research and bump up their quality of this Earl Grey tea based drink. It's becoming more popular in this area and other coffee shops do a great job with it. read more

Amazing crew, always super happy to help, but as someone who has come here quite a few times it is disappointing to see what the staff have to deal with. There have been multiple times I have heard or even seen management yell at employees over minor issues. The only time the employees look comfortable is when the management/owner is out. I have also heard about tight restrictions they have regarding syrups and food that often hinders its quality. The crew turnover is insane as well, every-time I come in there are new staff members. I would not recommend supporting this business until they fix some serious issues. read more

Amazing service and fair prices! SO glad I found this little gem. I'm a tea addict and was looking for a last minute white elephant gift in hopes that I'd turn someone else onto tea the same way I love it. I had no idea this spot was here and am so glad I found it. It absolutely going to be a new go-to. I called to confirm they were open and was greeted by the manager. She was so friendly and told me they were open and had tons of tea offerings from loose leaf to bagged to accessories. When I arrived, the same manager greeted me and knew right away that I was the one that had called. She explained to me how all the different teas were in sections based on herbal, green, black, decaf, etc. I was like a kid in a candy store! She even pulled out small sampler sized bags of tea for me to look through and I thought this was the perfect fit to give as a white elephant, as I could get a variety of several flavors. They also have a whole section with a huge array of spices and seasonings. You're able to purchase by weight and I thought this was such a unique offering that I haven't seen at any other coffee shops or tea houses. Before I left, I purchased a vegetarian burrito to take home. Tasted great and was decently priced. Was just what I needed. As I mentioned, the service was fantastic. All the employees (especially the manager) were so SO kind and helpful throughout my visit. They kept checking on me and asking if needed anything. After learning more about how Village Roasters treats its staff, I won't be coming back. The atmosphere might look cozy from the outside, but behind the scenes it seems workers are underpaid and overworked, with little appreciation for the effort they put in. It really shows in the morale -- the place feels tense, and employees don't seem supported or valued. It's hard to enjoy a cup of coffee knowing the people making it aren't being treated fairly. A business that relies so heavily on its workers should do better by them. read more

Excellent variety of whole bean coffees that are roasted on-site. Favorite is Ethiopian Guji. Brewed coffee lattes, cappuccino always good and my favorite. Staff is alert and always ready to help anyway they can. They know most of their customers by name. read more

This place is a little treasure. We got an elderberry latte, raspberry mocha, mixed berry scone, and a cute mug from their large selection of ceramic and tumbler products available. The tea and spices section was very cool with over 100 different spices available. The coffee bean bar was great with very helpful information cards for each one. The staff were knowledgeable, warm, and very down-to-earth people. They make genuine connections with their patrons and are happy to help with anything you need. I've been frequenting the Village Roaster in Carlsbad, just down from the Cinepolis theater, for several years. It's a regular stop on my 3x per week ebike rides. The staff is among the most friendly group of ladies you could ask for. They know their business and they quickly learn who you are and what drink(s) you prefer. The service is quick without being rushed, and the owner is clearly the reason the staff is so good. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of his craft, and the selection is vast and of the highest quality They know coffee, and they provide free roasting demonstrations, as well as a section of baked goods that are a major draw. Well, I am at "The Village Roaster" at "9255 W Alameda" which is really 1 block North of Alameda on the West side of the street. So, I have been curious but avoiding this coffeehouse because it is across the street from "Colorado Christian University" and "the Mile High Church." What a dichotomy! A New Age Church next to a Christian College! They have been getting along so far as I have heard but still. For those who don't know me I am a World Religions Expert. That means I can lambaste either of those in a casual conversation, since neither is able to present clear and simple methods to attain enlightenment. Frankly they don't even try to over complicate the process, because neither have any idea what that is or entails. Let's get down to the secular experience . So, I walked in with my own cup, and waited for a group of three people to order. Well, that seems normal unless you notice how many employees are just standing around. The drip coffee is self serve and that is typically all I want. Today I was hungry so I ordered the Vegetarian burrito. First, no one asked what size my cup was so they over charged me. Oh, well it's not going to break the bank today. Then I tip $3-, pass on the receipt but think wow $14.33minus tip = $11.33 for coffee and a pre-made breakfast burrito. After sitting down and connecting easily to their wifi (that was great) I read two news articles and thought, hum, where's my burrito? I remain quiet and read another article while texting with one of the people I help as a caregiver. Then stop and look at the service counter. Nothing yet. Shortly thereafter they say "Burrito." It has been over 10 minutes already. I got it in a to go bag so I asked for a plate and fork. Returning to my table I unwrapped the burrito and discover it's not evenly warm to the touch. Definitely not hot. Wow, what does it take. I returned to the service end of the counter where there is someone to ask to reheat it. Where are the other 4 people working here? Not including the owner or the tea room side help. I sit down and begin to eat my first maybe only meal of the day. I don't always remember to eat as I am practiced in fasting from "Spiritual Practice" and as a professional Dancer we don't eat like others do especially when getting close to show dates. I look around to figure out what the burrito cost. Well, it's not listed on the menu boards nor on the tag/description. The owner or manager noticed and asked if I needed anything. I asked about the price pointing out that it doesn't appear to be posted anywhere . She glanced and confirmed that. (She didn't fix that before leaving later on.) Well, Before I was halfway though my food I ran out of coffee. They have a self serve urn but it was being refilled. I knew that because they picked up the urn not long after I had poured myself a cup. The owner or manager told one of the many workers to us it to make iced coffee. So, I approached the counter where woman was waiting for something and three employees were standing there in silence and not doing anything, why can't one of you even look at me? Then as if it were rocket science the young man asks if he can help me. When I ask for some coffee he seems unsure how to check the progress of the coffee brewed into the urn. Is it done he asks another worker? Okay it was and he carries it out and sets it down with out addressing me until I stand up to get a refill and then he says I just put out the coffee (paraphrased.) There are five "kids" working here. Everyone looks young to me here, except the owner-manager and the tea lady. Let me tell you how Arabica in Cleveland had us help everyone . To start with they have two twin group espresso machines. We each would take a customers order and sometimes if that order was easy we could take two at a time and then another employee takes the next person in line etc. We almost never had a line, certainly never a long wait. Just saying, there is a functioning example of a better way. Starbucks could learn from this too! Now I know, that unless you are a Student or Psychic walking over here just keep driving. There are better options in either direction off of Alameda! So, my biggest fear that I would have to listen to the under educated postualize turned out to be the least of my concerns. Coffee is good, staff are friendly. Ambiance is cute. The clientele however, ruined this place for me, and I come often as my vet is at this intersection. A group of very rude, very uncouth gentlemen decided to ignore several polite requests to leave me be, as I was on a business call and they were continually trying to talk at me. Furthermore, they decided to make vulgar comments and remarks at things I was saying during my business meeting, which could be heard by the person on the other end of my call. I'm not a fan of the person collecting money putting her fingers in the cup she hands to the baristas: two fingers inside the cup to pull it up from the stack (maybe turn the cups over--mouth down) and pass over to the baristas. I mentioned I'd like another cup, told her why and she obliged. She was very friendly, but while waiting for my drink, I watched her do the same thing to the next customer! They didn't say a word. POSTER UPDATE: Eric has reached out to me and my husband for cupping sessions. The invitation is nice, but what I fear he doesn't understand is what this place was before he came. You would walk in and there was not a pretentious bone in the businesses, no one needed to write a PHD dissertation to convince you why the roast was good. It just was. You would walk in and the place smelled of delicious marshmallows from the roasting happening in the back. Each roast had its own unique flavor from its origin and was delicious. The roasts taken home were always good and would hold the taste for days. This is not the case anymore. I realize that new ownership brings changes and I hope this place continues to thrive. We used to drive 30 miles to come get their roasts, even "joked" about seeing if they would franchise in our neighborhood. Sadly, we are now looking for the next great roaster in the Mile High City. I'm only leaving three stars because this place has changed tremendously since it changed ownership. Their long time roaster is no longer there and whatever they are doing with the roasting is sadly not the same. So I know VR has been a staple in the neighborhood for years and I have stopped many many times - even at the shop that was in Belmar! But yesterday was probably the last time for me. I ordered a DECAF Latte and it really was horrible and NOT decaf! They definitely are roasting the beans differently these days and the coffee the beans produce isn't smooth - it's just bitter and burnt. I have also bought beans from VR and they seem to be over roasted and dried out without that lovely sheen and smell that a good bean should have. Sad...I really want to patronize our locals but will try to find another place. We love a good cup of coffee but this just isn't it anymore. read more

Nice spot to grab a coffee. They have a small sitting area inside. The neat thing is that they also have a tiny shopping area that is chock full of spices that you can buy. The spices are very aromatic. I ended up buying some. If I would have had more room in my suitcase I might have ended up buying more spices and a humorous coffee mug or two. The staff was friendly. This place seems to be fairly popular with the grab and go crowd. No one was really sitting around and enjoying their coffee. They have a variety of teas and coffee beans availabe for purchase. You can tell pretty quickly that they're not a chain. I went to an event at the Lakewood Cultural Center, where they have a cafe stand, and they had a raffle going... for a free thanksgiving turkey. Never would have guessed it, but I won. I went to pick it up and commented it was rather funny to pick up a turkey from a coffee shop, and the woman there said it's something they like to do every year for their customers.
