Me and my family have been coming to Savory for several years. Our kids do the majority of their Father's Day shopping here, as well as kitchen staples and niche products. The price point is awesome especially for the great quality, the customer service is second to none, and the store itself is clean, organized, and I could honestly spend all day in there. This is my favorite spice shop. The original one is still downtown and I remember years ago hearing the stories of Julia Child stopping by to do a, I believe it was a cooking demonstration. I still love my bottles, I have many of theirs. I have certain ones that fit in to a certain spot in my spice drawer. I keep the original ones that I have purchased and I go back to have them fill up little baggies of fresh spices that I dumped into the small bottles, it's a fair amount and then that way I keep replenishing the empty bottles with fresh spices. They have a rewards program and I just went to pick up some more spices and they gave me a free package of spice for a birthday gift. Thank you, I am a loyal customer. I WOULD recommend going there and check it out yourself. I would probably guarantee, once you went inside you won't come out empty-handed. read more

If you walk into Penzy's, on the other hand, you smell nothing. Let that be your first clue. Spices from Savory Spice Shop are better quality, and they are FRESH! Yes, they probably do cost a little more. High-end quality usually does, no matter what it is. I've seen the reviews, and could not believe that so many people would rave about a single store. That is, until we discovered Savory Spice Shop last weekend. Wow, I was blown away from this place, and I don't mean from the aroma from the spices easily detected 30 feet away from the entrance! Immediately upon entering the place, I knew it was like nothing I've seen before. Spices as far as I can see, each with little taster jars, and available either in small jar containers or in bulk. I was first fixated on the spice rubs for steak -- there were at least a couple I could of walked out with, but I showed a little restraint. That restraint melted away when I got a whiff of the most pure and powerful cinnamon I have ever experienced in my life. Sale! Then, I discovered a wall -- that's right, an entire wall of curry. Every kind of curry you can imagine, with different levels of hotness. Whether you are in to tikka masala, green, red, or yellow curry, or you want the core ingredients of curry, these are all available, again, in jars, or in bulk. Again, I couldn't help myself, the mid-spice yellow curry and tikka masala had to go home with me. I remember saying for the next several minutes, "wow, what a place!" Savory Spice Shop is definitely a gem, and it's great to see downtown Littleton get some traction by having top-notch stores and restaurants in the area. read more

THIS PLACE SMELLS AMAZING. I came in recently for Herbes de Provence, Berbere Spices, Arrowroot, Rose Water, Orange Blossom Water, Lavender Extract, Powdered Vanilla Bean and Tamarind Paste. Some of these are hard to find and if you do find them (like at H-Mart, Whole Foods, etc.) they are not always fresh or you have to buy way more than you need. With farmer's market season over and reservations about buying online, I appreciate being able to find a local place year-round for my spices. The staff here is very helpful and encouraging when it comes to taste-testing the spices. They have great spice blends (interesting names, too) and recently, an olive oil place opened right next door which makes for extra bonus points. Definitely check this place out. read more

This is such a lovely store right in the heart of downtown Littleton. The different scents of herbs and spices permeate the entire store. They have spices named after landmarks in Colorado. The staff is super helpful and knowledgeable of food pairing. They provided good suggestions for vegetarian cooking and flavors profiles I'm interested in. There was a sale going on for bringing in empty spice jars. They were also giving away free samples of the Bohemian Forest European Style Seasoning, which goes very well with seafood. I am extremely happy with my purchases (the Gran Paradiso Parmesan Sprinkle and the Hidden Cove Lemon Garlic Blend)! Absolutely love this shop. My first time in before Christmas with my adult son. Both of us felt welcomed and thoroughly enjoyed exploring spices and spice mixes. I was able to get quite a few stocking stuffers and even a fun "cake in a mug" for my granddaughters. Friendly staff without hovering and great recipes to go with many of their spices. What a marked difference from the "other" spice shop a few blocks away. Will be returning next week to use my coupon from their spice buyers program. I've always loved Savory and we buy nearly all our spices there but today was not their day. We drove a long way with a long list of things we needed to restock. They were clearly short-handed and some of the staff didn't know where things were; one stood around looking lost. After being told multiple times they'd "be with us soon" we realized they were now helping people who'd come in long after us. My husband finally got angry and walked out. And it takes a lot to rile him up! I'm not sure what's going on in the shop, but I guess we'll take our long list elsewhere. read more

I went right for the fifth star on this one, without hesitation, first time I've done that because this is the greatest home-run of a business that I've ever experienced! My God do they know what they're doing here!! I tell EVERYONE about the two locations (that I've been two, the other being on Platte) of this impecable business and how so immensely superior their product is to anything anywhere in the whole state! I use their spices every week, I especially love the Indian spice mixes such as the Tanoori Seasoning, Rogan Josh, Tikka Masala, and Garam Masala - all of which are salt free but taste terriffic on chicken, potatoes, rice, etc. About a third of their spice blends are salt-free but crafted so intelligently with flavor that you don't miss the salt. The aroma...oh I need the best words to describe this, don't have them now but how can anything be so wonderful! In fact, I don't want to meet a person who doesn't stay awhile once they walk in the door for that alone would be enough to label them a fool! And the reason you stay even longer - you get to taste anything there which culminates it in being a completely mind-blowing sensory experience! They have 'Taster' jars for most of their fare so you can sprinkle some on your palm, lick it, dazzle at the taste while imagining what it will go with and then throw the excess down to the attractive wooden floor. It's even better than wine tasting in my opinion. You know it's local when many of their blends are named after Colorado 14ers which speaks even more to the genuiness of this merchant. It may sound funny to make a special trip to a store just to get your spices, but again, it's so much more than just shopping, it's aromatherapy, quite literally!! I guarantee that any human being will walk out of this store feeling alive, vibrant...happy as can be. The staff are perfect. Amicable and knowledgable, they want you to stay awhile. Every conversation I've had with the staff has been meaningful to me, never the robotic retail cliche dialogue you deal with every day. Another thought I've always had of this place is how it would be the most originally sublime idea of something to do on a first date, or any date. If you want to get close to someone, bring them here and I guarantee that the experience will unite you! In summary, they have all the regular spices in addition to the myriad master-crafted spice blends they do on premises, they even have rose-petal sea salt, hibiscus sea salt, uh..they got mesquite smoke flavoring, hickory smoke flavoring, both of which are powders to rub or sprinkle on things and both of which smell and taste spectacular and are salt free! Oh and forget about Penzey's nearby, they fall so short of the Savory experience, they don't have near as much talent and THEY'RE NOT LOCAL!! Go away, Penzey's! I received a hostess gift from the shop on Quebec, and I loved it so much that I thought I'd give this shop a try (especially since it's much closer to my house). I was a total LHA (last hour A-hole) and showed up a few minutes before closing. There were three ladies behind the counter. I immediately apologized for showing up right before close and they assured me I was fine. They were extremely helpful, too. My son goes off track tomorrow until January, so I thought this would be an ideal "Thank You For Putting Up With My Child And Have A Merry Christmas" gift. Who doesn't like spices, right? They helped me pick out a few spices for the teacher (and some for myself). I purchased the Peppermint Vanilla Bean Sugar, Dutch Cocoa Powder, Table Mountain All-Purpose Seasoning, Mt Elbert All-Purpose Seasoning (not to be confused with the Prince Albert piercing) and the Taco Seasoning. I purchased the Dill Dip and the Red Rocks Hickory Smoke Seasoning for myself. The average price for a tube of seasoning is $4.50--the same as the grocery store. I mentioned that I was giving it as a gift, so she put the spices in a cute, brown paper bag (with their logo on it) and tied it with a rustic green ribbon. Too cute! I highly recommend this location for their fantastic customer service, their spice selection and their plain-ol' attention to detail. I'm definitely hooked and I plan on buying LOTS of Christmas presents here and shipping them to California... I know they're gonna love 'em! read more

I love Savory. I haven't found a spice shop besides Savory that offers me everything I want in one fell swoop. The staff are also genuinely nice and helpful; they know the products and make great recommendations. I always, always, always get my black truffle salt from Savory. It's better than anything you can get at the grocery store. It's PUNGENT and the flavor holds. Unfortunately, Penzey's doesn't sell truffle salt (which just reaffirms my "get everything at Savory" strategy.) In fact, I don't think I've ever bought a single thing from Penzey's... I go look around, don't see what I want, and head straight to Savory. Savory's vanilla is awesome (I get the 2x potency and use it like normal... I love vanilla.) They also sell vanilla bean paste, which combines the liquidity of extract with the good flecks you get from the bean. I just made a chocolate crème brulee with their onyx cocoa powder. The color was stunning and the dessert turned out so beautifully. Honestly, I just can't say enough positive things about the quality of their spices. read more

Like Penzeys Spices, this place is also a dream. Who knew it was so easy to get hooked on spices? I love that you can see them prepare everything on site - and according to their website, they prepare everything weekly in small batches so it's as fresh as possible. It's really inexpensive compared to the grocery store, so you can buy tons of stuff to try out. Although I was there on a busy day, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Box sets of spices here make a great gift - they have some that are specifically named after local and state landmarks, which I think makes a really cool gift (but maybe I'm just a nerd like that). Plus, their gift boxes are packed with loose goodies like cinnamon sticks, bay leaves, and red chiles that you can put in your own containers for later use. Go there now! read more

We love Savory! Every staff member is super helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. They carry lots of ethnic spices you can't find at the grocery store. And because they sell in bulk, you can buy as little or as much as you need, with no excess. One of my best experiences was when I came in to buy spice jars. (I was tired of all the different sizes and shapes of jars, and wanted them all to match.) I brought in my old jars for them to recycle and received a discount on my purchase. The new glass jars with lids and labels ended up being less than a dollar a piece! Great experiences, great spices, great service. I don't go anywhere else for spices anymore. read more

It has been a long time since I have been in a store where the staff is kind and helpful, but also gave me breathing room to shop. The store is so pretty and smells so wonderful that I just like to be in there. They have an amazing, high quality, selection of spices and they gave me a sample of one of their rubs (very thoughtful)... Why go to a specialty spice shop instead of just grabbing something at the grocery store? Because everything you cook/make will taste SO much better, the quality is just worlds better, and it is very obvious.. If it seems inconvenient just stock up! By the way, I live way closer to a different spice store that is mentioned on here, and the employees really could have cared less about helping anyone, I also didn't know that it was not local...so while that particular spice store is also a beautiful sensory experience, make the trip to this place to give them your business...they deserve it. p.s. I'm really having mixed feelings about the Savory Spice Shop and highly recommend people consider their needs before coming her. I came in needing several spices for a recipe. I thought that coming into a shop such as this would be an effective way to save money and space in my cabinet, by simply getting smaller amounts of the items I needed. I indeed scored on space saving. I bought 5 1 oz sizes of seasonings that are in tiny little bags that won't crowd my kitchen. I TOTALLY FAILED on saving money. I ended up spending $12 on 5 spices, which isn't really ridiculous, except I later went to Sprouts and realized they offered the same spices for 99 cents an ounce!! I paid nearly $3 for one of my ounces of seasonings and it would have been $2 cheaper at Sprouts. Basically I could have spent $5 for the same items at Sprouts. More than twice the price - come on Savory Spice Shop - really??? Nothing I was getting was fancy or high end so the price difference is unjustified. This shop does offer some really neat unique items, like whiskey barrel sugar and some amazing coffee scented meat rubs. In those cases - come here! I assure you this place is top notch for this. Otherwise, if you are in need of singular seasonings in small packaging - get to Sprouts. Lesson learned. I assure you I won't be back for more general seasonings. I'm sure the cumin I can get at Sprouts is no different than the cumin at this spice shop. read more

I was referred to this shop by friends that RAVE about it. I'm not much of a cook, so I didn' t really have it on the top of my list to visit. Finally, Christmas snuck up on me and I wanted to pop in to get a gift card for my friends. I. was. amazed. This place smells so good when you walk in and the people that work there were so friendly and helpful! I ended up getting gifts for 4 different people (their gift sets, rock!). My parents are coffee fiends, so I bought them the "Cup'a Joe" set. This morning, they made me a coffee with the Saigon Cinnamon and I AM IN LOVE!
