This location is on a street surrounded by cute artisen boutiques and restaurants. It's also really close to the Seaport There is street meter or town lot parking. The Flow parking app was glitchy so I just used the original meter. This location is a bit smaller and narrow in the aisles. Still a lot to look at and you can always walk out w a unique piece. Staff is always helpful and patient. I also saw Vanessa here another staff member who worked the Peabody location. Gloucester is a beautiful quaint town. Home of Gorton's frozen fish and of course great seafood and a beach. I definitely will be back to visit. read more

I visited here with a family member who lives in the area (about an hour away from where I live) and I was instantly mesmerized with the jewelry they had! You can buy simple stones for as low as $5, or you can get beautiful jewelry, geodes, and even fossils! The woman behind the counter was very friendly and helpful. I asked to try on a few rings, and she was more than happy to let me try on as many as I'd like. The rings I looked at ranged from $50-$150. My nana even got a diamond necklace for under $200 (not extremely pure, of course)! I could spend hours in here looking at the huge, beautiful selection they have. I recommend this place for anyone looking for jewelry of any kind, and any specific gemstones. I wouldn't hesitate to drive another hour to visit this amazing store! read more

This place is feckin' great! I have a opal necklace from here (which I talked my mom into buying for me sinc eyou aren't supposed to buy your own opals) and it's lovely. And it was cheap. I prefer silver. I guess that makes me a cheap date. But I like the way silver looks against my skin. That said, some places that just sell silver are too pricey, especially when it's in a tourist destination.. but not this place. This place is a find, indeed! read more

If you like silver, this is your shop! With three locations in downtown Rockport alone (could there be another hiding somewhere?), it's hard to miss this store regardless of where you're walking. See a ring you like but it's not in your size? Hop up the street to the other store and see if they have it in there. There are seemingly endless ropes of necklaces, cases of rings with precious stones, amber and amethyst pieces, even fossils and taxidermed exotic insects (it sounds creepy but it's really awesome, trust me.) Staff members are very friendly and know their stuff. Prices aren't crazy either, so if you're looking for an inexpensive but nice gift, you're likely to be able to find one. read more

i could spend an hour in this place just looking at everything, mainly because i'm simple and all i need is a room full of sparkly things to be entertained. there is some truly gorgeous, exquisite jewelry at the village silversmith. you can definitely come here and get a simple, basic new silver ring or toe ring or pair of earrings or charm or chain or whatever, but there are also ten tons of items with rocks and gems and all that pretty stuff. what's awesome is that it's all either really cheap or really reasonable. my boyfriend bought me a necklace with a star made of diamonds (you know what i'm talking about, they unfortunately showed up everywhere) at an expensive jewelry store. the necklace chain that came with it broke because they are jerks. i went into the village silversmith and they were SO HELPFUL in choosing a new chain. the original chain was very delicate and thin and sparkly and i wanted something as similar as possible. they helped me find something beautiful but more sturdy and suggested several lengths. they wanted me to get a chain in a different size, thinking it would look better, but weren't pushy when i said i wanted the slightly longer length. i appreciated that cause i know what i like, dammit, i just need help getting there. i super love places where the employees are so helpful but not at all pushy. it helps in a place like this, where you want 7 things (at the very least) and you're trying to narrow it down to 2 or 3. i have so many things from here that have stayed beautiful for as long as i've had them. i'm able to have so many pieces because they're so affordable. there are also locations in rockport which are equally helpful and beautiful and well-stocked. this is ABSOLUTELY worth a trip/visit. read more

While there is a dazzling array of gorgeous gemstones, I have to strongly advise shoppers to avoid this store. The man behind the counter shadowed us as though he thought we would try to steal something, and was quite rude to us as well. I asked about blue amber (blue under certain lights, a really interesting phenomenon), which he insisted did not exist, and then simply stared me down when I mentioned how interesting it is. I certainly understand that someone can't know everything about their wares, but there is no call to be rude to someone genuinely interested in what he is selling! I would have been prepared to go back, because of the selection, but the atrocious attitude of the shop tender (I believe he is the owner) has ensured that I will never return. read more

My wife bogught something from the Hampton Beach location on the 21st and ended up getting her debit card compromised. She had three charges on the card in Dubai within 24 hours. The clerk swiped the card once and said the machine was broken and then eneded up swiping it on two other machines. Be very aware when shopping at this location. It seems kind of shady. read more

This store is filled with beautiful jewelry, but unfortunately in the winter, with 30 degree weather, the owner leaves the front door wide open. It's freezing in this store! I asked the nice counter girls if I could close the door and they said, "Of course you can." Once it warmed up I was able to take my time to shop for a Christmas gift for my daughter. I bought a nice pair of earrings for her. I would not have stayed in that store one minute if they hadn't shut that door. It was freezing and the owner should have more compassion for his shoppers! read more

I absolutely LOVE the Village Silversmith. We discovered this shop several years ago, while wandering around Rockport. It quickly became my birthday destination. Each year, I pick out a special piece of jewelry for myself and then we go out for a delicious seafood dinner nearby and enjoy the beauty of Cape Ann. George, the founder, along with his son, John, are amazingly knowledgeable and so creative. I've told dozens of people about Village Silversmith. Last summer, I was at one of the Rockport stores. I was admiring a necklace, and George suggested that I take the necklace outside to see how the stone looks in a different light. How many store owners would be that trusting? On another trip, John noticed I was wearing one of their pieces. He removed it and cleaned it for me while I was shopping. At a recent doctor's visit, I noticed the gorgeous pendant that my doctor was wearing. I told her that she'd love Village Silversmith, and she said that's where she bought the pendant! She's a huge fan of Village Silversmith, too. I think I'll be visiting one of their shops very soon ... probably the North Shore Mall location. read more

I have very few vices. One of them is semi precious stones set in sterling silver. I love Village Silversmith. I have been going there since my first trip to Rockport and now they have a store much closer to me at the North Shore Mall I make a purchase every Mothers Day and birthday (I get what I want then. LOL). For years George catered to my tastes and with his kind prodding he gave me the confidence to buy larger pieces. Neither George nor John spend time at the Danvers shop but the staff there are great too. My problem is once I have made my selection I have to keep my eyes down and head straight for the till before I see anything else I fancy or else I am dragged back into dreamily perusing the huge selection. When I win the lottery I am going to go and buy a lot of fossils from that shop. GREAT!! read more

These stores sell the highest quality stones. The craftsmanship is superb. I live on Cape Ann and am lucky enough to frequent the stores here. I have only been to Peabody once and was blown away! To the person who gave a one; There are not many male clerks. The one that I know, I believe is an owner. He has always treated me and my wife with respect. I went back to the Silversmith and I realized that their jewelery isn't really my cup of tea. It's pretty run of the mill. They have some nice rings and things. I guess it's alright if you want pretty generic jewelery. Their stones are lovely. What really makes the Silversmith special is its enormous collection of fossils, crystals, and precious stones. The owner is a collector of these things and many of the larger pieces are not for sale. This is ok because when I say larger pieces, I mean enormous. In the window are huge slabs of crystal that are as big as a toddler. There are also large stones with fossils in them. In the store at the North Shore Mall, there's even an entire skeleton of a bear in the shop window. The smaller pieces they do sell are fantastic and well priced. I got a gorgeous ammonite fossil that they had split in half for ten dollars. The owner does trade with people all over the world to get these items and the best days to visit the stores are days that he's there because you can ask him about the fossils. read more

Signed up just to post this review. Bought a ring at the Portsmouth location, which I was told by multiple sales associates was handmade by the owner's son or the owner himself. It was a wire-wrapped style ring I was guaranteed was silver by the same sales associates who sold it to me. The price of 125$ would've been way too steep for a silver-plated ring with a modest amethyst. Noticed the ring started turning a "coppery" color so I used some silver cleaner and within minutes the ring was noticeably worse. I brought it to a local jeweler who advised me the reason it looked "coppery" is because it was in fact copper plated in silver. Your name has silversmith in it and you're selling fake silver as sterling. Will be advising anyone I know not to shop here. read more

Although this shop has everything you could ever want in silver, and handmade by John and I love these shops, I have to say that it is a place I will no longer frequent. As a long standing customer who has brought family members including our grandchildren (adults), who buy here regularly they are not treated as special. Today I brought a bracelet with charms to be attached. All purchased in this shop. I was told that it would cost $8.00 per charm to have them soldered on . Everything was purchased there and by the way the O-rings don't hold for very long!. Customer service receives a minus. So I have to say good bye!! read more

This is a great store for those just looking for a gorgeous piece of jewelry to the avid rock and gemstone enthusiast. They have beautiful and unique examples of just about every gem I can imagine. Even someone who doesn't know or care a thing for rocks could spend hours looking at the selection and leave with a huge new appreciation for how amazing the earth and rock formations can be and grateful for a store that has such a wide selection and a knowlegeable friendly staff. It can get a bit pricey mostly with the pendants and especially if you're attracted to bigger bolder pieces like myself. While I think some of the pieces may be a little over-priced (I used to work in a similar store in North Carolina) there is such a huge selection that you are bound to find more than one thing you love in your price range. I know this probably isn't what the owner wants to hear but I can come in here, spend an hour just taking it all in, leave without buying anything and feel completely satisfied as this place is just as captivating as a museum. I have been giving my business here for a while now and even if the staff did a 180 and turned out to be incredibly unhelpful and rude (which they are not!), I would still keep coming back because this place is a...(wait for it...)
