    Shrimp poboy is ok
    Justin M.

Heard many people talk about it but it's definitely nothing to drive out here for. Had the shrimp poboy and philly. Not enough shrimp on there and little off tasting and not seasoned enough. The bread is ok. Don't like crunchy bread but it still is soft as well which is nice. The philly needs lots more as well inside but not bad and could use some whiz. Other than that just nothing about this place justifies driving 25 minutes. Nothing is really made from scratch here. Oh well I tried and now I know.

    Shrimp poboy- delicious

This place is the spot for a shrimp poboy and home cut fries. Huge shrimp falling off of a crispy bun, fresh potatoes sliced and deep fried to perfection. I don't know what the secret is to those amazing potatoes but they are nothing like you've ever tried before. They are probably 30 minutes from my house but we'll worth the trek.

In Lafayette for the day, we were told we had to eat here. The pot roast poor boy was the bomb. Fries homemade and awesome. What makes these so good, the best bread ever! A Do Not Miss!

I LOVE this place!! I come here every time I'm in the Abbeville/Lafayette area. Best poor boy's and beignets ever. My favorite poor boy is the pot roast fully dressed, but I also love the philly cheese steak and fried shrimp. Tell Kaye I said Hi, she's the best.

The pork chop was cooked perfectly. It was juicy, incredibly tender, and honestly tender enough to cut with a fork. It had a great char from the grill that added so much flavor, and the pickled peppers on top cut through the richness of the pork perfectly. The dirty rice underneath reminded me of my mom's rice dressing and soaked up all the juices from the chop. It was one of the best pork chop dishes I've had. My wife ordered the smoke fried chicken, and it was also excellent. The crust was crispy while the chicken stayed juicy and flavorful. The sweet potato biscuits were light and delicious, and the pepper honey tied everything together nicely. For my taste, it leaned just a little on the sweet side, but it was still a very enjoyable dish. My daughter ordered the Social Cheeseburger with just meat and cheese. She loved it, and I was impressed too. Even with such a simple order, the burger was juicy, well seasoned, and served on a fantastic bun. She and my wife both could not stop talking about the hand cut fries. They were crispy, perfectly seasoned, and some of the best fries we've had in a while. From the food to the service, everything exceeded our expectations. We left very impressed and will definitely make a point to stop here whenever we are in the Lafayette area.

More specifically their flatbreads and loaded fries, which I do not currently see on their website. Most of the time they have loaded fries which in the past have consisted of gravies and sauces. One preparation we ordered came with pickled okra. The fried green tomatoes are also very good, especially to start with or share. As far as main dishes go we have tried the following: All Hail Caesar (Flatbread) Spicy Chicken Sandwich Smoke Fried Chicken-N-Biscuits Social Cheeseburger The Mac n Cheese is a must get as a side in my opinion. One of the first times we visited they had carrot cake as a dessert, we still talk about that carrot cake today. If you are a sweet tea lover this place has a twist which I love. Their sweet contains brown sugar and mint, get it, try it, it's delicious.

We got here not too far after opening. There was a short line and it moved quick. I ordered my items and sat down to hear my name. When I opened the plates I knew I was in the right place. The fish is fried perfectly. The chicken as well though I could have used a little more seasoning. Sides were good. But that turkey wing. My hubs took one bite. Looked at me and smiled. I knew it was on. I don't even really like turkey but I would eat three of those happily for thanksgiving. If you see the turkey wing get it! Can't wait for my next trip back.

They only had a few meats left when we got there and one of them was the stuffed turkey wings, which was highly recommended. It was cool, but nothing like I expected. I thought it would be packed with flavor, but I needed that Louisiana red rooster hot sauce for the extra flavor which I thought would have been marinated in the meat. The star of the show was that okra seafood stew. That was a 10 out of 10 for me! We got the cabbage, but I have never in my life had sweet sugary cabbage. That threw me totally off! My brother loved it and it's definitely an acquired taste. Not for me at all. We had about three hours till closing, and there was a small line so the place does great business and people love it. If I were ever back in Lafayette, I would definitely come back to try something different.

We didn't have any particular place in mind for lunch knowing that there are a few great options but wanted to try a place where the locals eat so here we are at Ruby's. This town has a lot of history and Ruby's Cafe has been a big part of that history. Parking is pretty easy in this part of the historic downtown district so it was only a matter of crossing the street to get to the entrance, this small cafe was pretty busy but we were able to seat ourselves without a wait although arriving here a little after noon some of the daily plate lunch specials were already sold out- but we managed after our friendly server let us know what was still available. We ordered the pork tasso and sausage with rice and gravy with candied yams and sweet slaw and chicken fried steak with a spicy brown gravy on the side with corn and again an order of candied yams. The food here was amazing, a little like eating at momma's place, this is legit cajun fare and if you haven't had a chance to sample this unique cuisine this would be a great place to start in my opinion. The sweet tea is freshly brewed and the service is outstanding and definitely a place I'll return to when in the area or within a reasonable driving distance - this place is definitely one to bookmark...

Or that they argued with the amazing manager for nearly an hour total after being told they couldn't accommodate that size party. They're also leaving out the part where people from their group marched in and seated themselves, stood over occupied tables waiting for guests to leave, insisting the hosts clean the tables, and made the entire restaurant uncomfortable. This had nothing to do with race and everything to do with behavior. Any group acting like that would've gotten the exact same response. In short, do better. This may have been part of the reason its wasn't all that busy on a Tuesday lunch. Similar to some other restaurants in Louisiana I've visited, they have a side with a bar, to-go area and high tops, and a more family oriented side of the restaurant with a bunch of low top tables. Fried pork rinds are served with every table. They have daily plate lunches and the one day I came it was chicken fried steak. However, it's not usually a good idea to order CFS outside of Texas in my experience. Therefore, I ended up ordering the catfish and shrimp platter, served grilled instead and added a $5 strawberry margarita. The entree comes with a side salad but they only have seelct dressings and none which I would typically order, so i just settled on honey mustard. Margarita- for only $5 it's not bad and comes with either sugar or salt rim Catfish and shrimp platter - seasoned with a blackened seasoning but it wasn't spicy. The catfish filet was small and tasted like it was previously frozen. The shrimp were also small and didn't taste much better. Not sure I'd return if ever in Lafayette, as I was really looking for a more festive environment and more grilled options.
