These are the places that you hear about. Down home, real deal. Louisiana Cajun cooking. It takes some getting used to that you are parked at a gas station eating your lunch... but that's how they do in LA. The plate lunches here are absolutely TOP NOTCH. You will need a nap afterwards. And the Ladies that work here and prepare the meals are super nice, salt of the Earth types. I recommend the red beans & rice with sausage. Absolutely delicious.

I was really hoping to try the fried chicken; however they were fresh out. The place is extremely intimate maybe 26 seats in 3 small rooms. 1940's style home turned into a restaurant. A picture of Rita Mae on the wall as if she watches over every meal served. Windo units for AC and a small front porch with a few barstools. The fish was super crispy with a very tasty batter; oh how I wish they would have had fried chicken today. The potato salad was still warm with big chunks of hard boiled eggs and flakes of pickle expertly prepared. The white beans could have used a bit more spice considering we are in the deep south of Louisiana. Still had very good taste. The tartar sauce was thick, or as we say in Cajun 'tick tick' and creamy. You just know it was homemade. Service was fast, friendly and extremely accommodating. If you're in Morgan City with a grumbling tummy, make sure to set the gos for Rita Mae's for some good ole down south soul food.

Everything was incredible, but I think our favorite part was talking to Rita Mae's son. He was awesome. Our best food spot so far on our trip down south!
