Been in Houston for 3 weeks, and needed to find a hair salon in mid-town. Friends recommended Vincent and was close to me, so off I went. Vincent is a very chill guy, when he was about to cut my hair, he did a walk around looking at it like a Matador and Bull doing their dance, reason is I have curly hair, and it seems he has not cut many people with curly hair..Of course he shares this with me when we are almost done!! Yikes!! He then started cutting my hair dry, no one has ever done that, his reasoning is that he wants to see it dry vs wet. So after washing it at home, I see he did a good job overall, but it was much shorter than I wanted. I will be back and let him know to not cut it that short next ime! Definitely don't go here if you care at all about COVID / mask enforcement. Employee had his mask below his nose the entire time, then saw two customers walk in without any mask at all and the employees welcomed them as if there was nothing wrong. I came in for a simple cut, just shortening and cleaning up my layers. I requested a dry cut which is normally not a problem, but my stylist insisted she needed to straighten my hair to do the layers. Ok that's a first, but I let her do it. Little did I know this was going to end up making my simple trim cost $65! If I had known I was going to be charged for frying my hair I would have cancelled and walked out. Did my cut end up looking ok? Sure. Was it $65 worth of ok? HELL no. This was a classic bait and switch and I fell for it. Buyer beware - this is not an honest establishment! read more

My usual hair dresser was out of town. I trolled yelp. I almost went to another popular salon. I had some trouble getting an immediate appointment though. You know once I get an idea in my head, I just can't get it out. I wanted my hair cut. I didn't want to wait an hour much less a day. My husband sees Vincent and loves him, so he suggested I check him out. I called him and he said he could fit me in 20 minutes later. WOO HOO! The salon is decorated nicely, but not too nicely. It doesn't fit into any specific niche decor wise. Maybe RHWONJ. Go ahead, figure it out. Anyway, who cares what the salon looks like. Let's talk about my hair. Call it PMS, call it 98 degree heat, I HAD to get the hair off my neck. A pony tail was not up to snuff. I told Vincent I wanted it all cut off. At first he seemed a little apprehensive. "Cut it all off" I said. "I want it to be cute, but not pretty, punk, but nor weird, and don't make me look like a fat lesbian." "So, you want a pixie then?" He asked. "I guess, Whatever, just follow those rules and I will be happy. I mean it's just hair. It'll grow back. What's the worst thing that could happen? I have to buy a wig? Cut it. Pixie, I don't care what you call it." You know what my hair looks like? It's cute, but not pretty. It's punk but not weird. (I love making a feaux-hawk after my showers). And I think I look like a medium sized gal (gay or straight). Now instead of looking disheveled all the time, my hair looks like I actually did something with it. I started going to Vincent when I lived in Midtown and he was at Supercuts down the street. He always gave me haircuts that were far above Supercuts standards and I always thought he should be at a real salon. Well, he started his own place and he is still as good as always plus has more freedom to really give his customers the salon experience. The salon itself is nice with your typical area to sit down and read magazines (I have had to wait maybe once) and the stations are very modern looking. Vince is very meticulous and good at understanding that people have different hair thus require different approaches (i.e., weird cowlicks in my hair.) He is also very good at working with my schedule. An appointment consists of Vincent taking his time cutting my hair, washing it, conditioning it, putting a minty mask and hot towel on my face while the conditioner sets, and then styling it. I have been going to him for quite some time now and have always made the trip regardless of when I lived in Midtown, Pearland for two years, or now the Heights, it is worth it! read more

Vincent seemed a little nervous to deal with my hair ( I'm black, and I went in with my natural hair straightened but it was very frizzy because of the humidity). I let Vincent know that I wanted a trim, not a haircut and I showed him with my fingers the maximum he was allowed to cut. He listened to my wishes carefully and I love how thick and blunt my hair now looks. I went here based of yelp reviews and I did not receive the spa treatment that some of y'all did :( but Vincent was a sweetheart and I appreciate how precise he was and the fact that he took the time to section my hair off. My only problem is that $25 is far too much for just a trim. I did not get my hair washed or even blow dried, I got 1 inch trimmed off my hair. I've been places that charge anywhere from $5 to $15 but I have never paid $25 anywhere. Because of the price, If I could I would give this place 31/2 stars, but everything else was great. read more

Wife liked it which makes my review an automatic minimum of 3 stars. I called for an appointment and knew that I wanted to ask for Vincent after reading the reviews. Vincent was actually the one who picked up the phone so scheduling the appointment was easy. As for the "experience" of the haircut, it was pleasant. I was maybe 3 minutes late, but Vincent was ready for me as soon as I came through the door which is actually something I've never expected of a barber but it was cool to feel important even going in for a haircut. The salon has an awesome ambience. It's simple, clean, bright. Only thing I didn't like was the smell of incense at Vincent's station. I grew up with incense in the house with my buddhist grandma and dad. I don't have any bad associations with the smell; I just have never liked it. The spa treatment was different, but nice... i had some minty stuff rubbed on my face and then a warm towel draped over my face. I worried through the first 3 breaths if I was going to have to take it off, but it seemed like it was a measured amount of heat that had definitely been tested. I definitely walked out feeling refreshed which is also not how I usually leave the barbershop. Overall, good experience, just wasn't the biggest fan of the smell. read more

It looks like Vincent's will be my hair salon as long as I live in Montrose. Mostly because I would prefer to not spend $60 for a cut at the other salons around the area. For a women's cut, shampoo and blow dry style, they charge somewhere between $25-40. Not a hundred percent sure on pricing because on my first visit I had shampoo, cut and style and that was $35. I looked hot. Second time I had shampoo and double cut, no blow dry for $25. I say double cut because I wasn't satisfied with the shortness and Walter went back to snipping. Walter is the only one who has worked on my hair so far. He takes his time and on the first visit he was a bit apprehensive to cut off as much as hair as I wanted. It was long and he cut it right at the shoulders. He did a great job so I was satisfied. Second visit seemed like he wasn't as timid. Perhaps on the first visit I threw off a vibe that suggested I'd rip his face off if he screwed up. ha! I don't know. I like this place. Clean, affordable, good staff, take walk-ins. If you're like me and you want to give your hair stylist flexibility to do what he/she wants (with great results of course), you can trust Vincent to do a great job. Vincent has cut and styled my hair for over a year now, and I'm happy with my experiences. As Alex H. mentioned, Vincent is very meticulous. Sometimes, he gets distracted by phone calls, texts, and incoming customers (there doesn't seem to be a receptionist whenever I'm there), but he still manages to return to my hair and cut it with focus. He recently colored my hair, and once again, his meticulousness showed. As warning, the shopping center is rather small, but it's usually not a problem to find parking, unless you go during peak mealtime hours when you're competing with Jus' Mac customers. I've been going to Vincent for haircuts since he used to work at a chain, and have never looked back. A few years ago he made the jump and opened his own salon. They pay great attention to what they do, and you can expect much better quality than most places. Vincent and his small staff definitely take pride in their work, and they have a cult-like following. The place is very conveniently located off Elgin right where it turns into Westheimer, and if you work anywhere inside 610 its easy to pop in during lunch for a trim. I went to Birsha at Vincents after using Yelp to find a local Salon, she was great! I have not had anything done to my hair in about 2 years, and even cut my long strands myself. So when I decided it was time for some basic highlights, I read on Birsha's page that she loves highlights the best! When I first went in on a Monday after work, I have to admit I was slightly unimpressed with the coloring job, the value and the perception of the service was simply not there. I had never consented to getting highlights before so I wasnt sure what to expect. The light brown/dark blonde highlights were actually darker than when I went in. When Birsha followed up with me days later, she suggested I come back in and she would touch it up. She did an amazing job and got it spot on! I was so thrilled she took the initiative to ask me how I liked it and even lightened it up free of charge. Very easy to talk to and sincere, I will definitely be going back! read more

I arrived with the expectation of paying ~$60 for a color based on the website prices. Yeah, usually it ends up being ~$10-$20 more. Somehow the stylists always have something extra that they charge for, but I did not expect to be taken for a ride. The stylist and his associate both tried to coax me to get highlights, which I denied. I just wanted a straightforward color. They disappeared in the back and come back offering to color my hair for either $130 or $230 dollars. The $230 would involve a double process. I was offended. I had left work early and now I have some guys trying to take me for all that I am worth. Not happening Vincent Hair Salon. Not happening. read more

Very clean and 3 friendly staff members. For $20, they wash, shampoo, condition your hair with a hot towel on your face, and then apply some minty cream and lotion on your face. Birsha is great. I was well overdue for a haircut and feeling spontaneous on Saturday, which resulted in me dying my hair red and deciding to get a haircut. The red, well that's another story. I texted Birsha in the morning and asked if she had any availability on Saturday or over the weekend for a cut. She had an opening at 3 so I took it. I had no problem parking and was seen promptly after entering the salon. Birsha looked at the color with a questioning look. I explained to her that I had done it in the morning and knew it was terrible but was going to figure out what to do with it. When I asked her for recommendations on how to fix it, to my pleasant surprise, rather than trying to sell me extra services, she gave me great advice on how I could fix it on my own at home if I wanted to. She was SO incredibly helpful! With regard to my cut, she gave me the option of having it shampooed if I wanted, but said since I had washed it already, she could do a dry cut. She recommended I do a dry cut to preserve some of the oils in my hair since I had just dyed and washed it. Fine by me, I like honesty. I told her I was basically looking for a trim, that I'm tying to grow my hair out, and that I just wanted to cut off the dead stuff. She showed me her recommendation of the amount to take off and I followed her judgement. After all, she's the professional. It came out Perfect. I didn't have to explain very much and the gal understands what a trim is! The haircut was quick, but not haphazardly quick, and Birsha was friendly, informative and talkative. I was in and out within an hour (I'm the type that likes to make my salon appointments short and sweet) and the cut cost only 35 bucks. Not bad! Today, my hair is a normal red (thanks to Birsha's advice), soft, and I'm loving the basic cut she gave me. read more

I am usually pretty low maintenance when it comes to my haircuts. It's usually a trip to visible changes or the like once every 9 months. I like the ease of being able to walk in anytime and getting my hair cut. After my last trip to visible changes where they cut my hair lopsided, I decided I wanted to try a smaller salon, hoping to get a better cut. Much to my dismay, prices for cuts in a lot of salons started at $60/65. No thanks. I decided to try Vincent Hair Salon because it's on my way home, they were open past 5, and the price. I got to the salon around 7 and Birsha, one of the hair dressers, had just got in her car to leave for the day. Vincent ran out to get her and Birsha very happily came back in the cut my hair. I felt really bad that I had showed up and made her stay when she was set to go home, but she was super nice and was very pleasant and positive. To add to it, I had mentioned that I usually do not get a shampoo before my cut because I have really really thick hair and it just takes forever to blow dry afterwards. Birsha said she would rather shampoo it first, if I didn't mind, just to make sure the cut would be good, even if it meant it would take longer. I loved the fact that she didn't let the late hour compromise her quality of work and wasn't just trying to get me out the door. I don't usually chat a lot with my hair dressers beyond discussing what I want done, mostly because I never really go back to the same one, but Birsha and I hit it off and had good conversation. We talked about possibly getting a Keratin treatment because my hair is so thick/wavy. She had Vincent quote me a price, but was not pushy about setting up an appointment to do it. I have a hard time saying no to people, so I am glad she did not put the pressure on! Sounds corny, but I watch a lot of Tabitha's Salon Takeover on Bravo and after seeing all the grossness on the show, I am acutely aware of the places that Tabitha would check during her examination of the salon. I definitely looked around and the salon was super clean and well kept. The total cost for my shampoo, cut, and blow dry was $45, which I think, in my limited non-big-chain salon experience, is very reasonable. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is only because I don't think my cut was very complicated. It was a trim to even out the lopsidedness, bang trim, and thinning out. If I could rate on Birsha's service and personality alone, it would definitely be a 5! And just because I didn't choose to do anything crazy or edgy with my hair this time doesn't mean that I won't want to in the future. I would definitely trust Birsha's skills with whatever I wanted to do. Overall, I was very pleased with the quality of Birsha's work. From out of town and needed an emergency haircut for a wedding I would attend the next day, so I decided to call different well reviewed salons in Houston and the other places didn't answer the phone at 10 am, except this place. Appointment was made easily and David was the stylist that cut my hair. He was the only stylist I've had so far that didn't scratch my scalp with his nails, and was really great with washing hair overall. The haircut was great vs and what I wanted. I do NOT recommend Vincent, he's very flakey, flip flops on PRICE and never did a consistent job on my hair. After trying to work with him and establish a good relationship with him, to no avail... I am DONE!!!!! I had Vincent cut and highlight my hair in June of '15. He put me under the dryer when he did the highlights. It did come out a bit more blonde than I asked but my bf and family liked it, said it looked good so I was okay with it. I went back in December of '15 and told him I didn't want it so blonde. This was only my 2nd time to get highlights. Basically Vincent barely highlighted the top layers of my hair, leaving the underneath all my usual dark color. Also, he did not color the gray framing my face like he did the first time. Also, he didn't put me under the dryer during the coloring as he did the first time. I "assumed" that he didn't highlight so much bc it was winter and usually most people tone down highlights in the fall. I did have to go back because he missed a lot of gray. He was okay with covering the gray, but he said he didn't realize I was "so concerned about the gray", which I found hard to believe since the gray and highlights is what I went in for in the first place. I thought, well, sometimes it takes a few visits to get lined out and on the same page with a new stylist and I am flexible, so I was willing to work with him. Then, I made an appointment for a 3rd visit. The day of, he begins sending me multiple texts messages and Facebook p.m. saying, "cya 1". Ohhhkay, what's up with that? I live around the corner, rushed to get there... guess what? No Vincent!!! Seriously, you are sending me multiple messages basically saying "be on time" and then you are late and make me wait 15 minutes??? I made a joke and just hoped for the best, but, it was another red flag, with the whole missing of the gray on the 2nd visit being the first red flag. I told him that I wanted the same thing. He proceeds to tell me that he's been giving me a good deal and I either have to pay more or he can't put as many highlights... what??! After two visits NOW you are gonna tell me that YOU didn't charge me enough and now want to charge me more??! Finally, after going round and round, he says he can do the same job he did the first time for the same amount. But, when I left I mentioned that my hair was like a reverse ombre... light on top and dark at the bottom. I was in a hurry and he said, if you don't like, you come back. So, I texted him to give him a chance to fix it. I told him I would like for him to fix all the dark and I would pay him. He said, oh you are talking about the dark at the bottom? Ahem, yes... he started to balk and say remember you didn't get a full highlight... honestly, after I offered to pay AND give him one last chance to fix it, why couldn't he just be professional and say, come in let's fix it. Noooooo, he wants to knit pick with me. I just said never mind, I will let someone else fix it. Then he defriended me on Facebook. Seriously, I have never dealt with such inconsistency and unprofessionalism that Vincent displayed especially during my last visit with him speaking out of left field that I wasn't paying enough. YOU are the one who told ME what to pay!!!!! There sure seems to be something else going on there other than just a language barrier that seems very contrived by Vincent who wishes to pretend he cannot totally understand the English language. Hello, he was raised in Lodi, California!!!! Whatever... let this be your warning!!!!! But, I do have to say, SHAME ON YOU VINCENT!!!!! I always tipped him 25% each time and was willing to work with him. I was going to give him a chance to fix the mess he made but honestly I suspected he was gonna open his big mouth and make me change my mind. So, now I have to go pay someone else exactly what I just paid him or more!!!!! I am NOT a happy camper and I plan to warn all my friends to not go to this salon... which... honestly, I don't believe that will be much of an issue as his salon was never crowded, more like always empty.
