I was referred to Jessica by my former stylist. I went to the website to call and book an appointment but could not find a number, but the website prompted me to book online. So I did. But then I got a response saying my appointment was "pending" and it stayed pending for 4 or 5 days...literally up to just a few days before the appointment date I had chosen. Then I got a message saying that Jessica was unable to accept my appointment due to a schedule conflict, but when I read the message further, it also said she was declining my appointment request because she was not taking any new clients. Ok, but as a prospective client, that is a HUGE turn-off. Why not state that on your website? Due to the time it took for her to respond, I couldn't help but think she was checking out my Insta and deciding that she didn't want to cut my hair. I had a wonderful experience at The Chair HTX with Rita! I had never dyed my hair before and wanted a subtle balayage. I have a light brown ashy color originally, and wanted it to be a brighter, lighter version of my color without "going blonde". I was pretty scared, but Rita knew exactly what I was asking and understood that I wanted to start out small. I LOVE what she did. The color literally is exactly what I asked - a brighter version of what I had. I may decide to go lighter in the future, but Rita started me with a great subtle color that I can build on. She even fixed my cut that was a little wonk . I was so scared to dye my hair for the first time and Rita gave me a great experience and a great color. I get so many compliments. I tried booking a new client appointment with Jessica two weeks away from the date of the appointment ( booked on 12/12 for 12/29). I got a confirmation email that stated Jessica needed to accept the appointment and figured there wasn't much reason to worry and thought I'd get my haircut today (12/29). I woke up this morning and realized there wasn't a follow up email so I called her number but she never answered. Then about an hour later I got an email saying my appointment was denied. There was no communication and I absolutely would've booked somewhere else had I known she would decline my appointment the day of my appointment. I wanted to get my haircut before my 21st birthday but I don't think it will be possible now. I will not try to book with this salon again read more

The Chair salon is cute/clean/seems great, but I've only used Leah, so can't comment on the other stylists. I used to go to Leah at The Roots salon from 2014-2015 and then followed her to her private salon in Rice Village in 2016 (I think?), then she moved up to Conroe and I decided to start going to a different salon in the Heights, since that was too far to drive. About 2 weeks ago I got an email from Leah stating that she was back in Houston and was offering past clients a 50% off deal, so I scheduled an appointment to get highlights done by her. My previous experiences with Leah were all positive. She is very easy to talk to and skilled with hair. No complaints over several years going to her for cut & color, until today... I showed her the three photos (I included them in the gallery) and told her I really wanted a lot more blonde/contrast than I normally have in my hair. She showed me a picture with less dramatic highlights and said we might only be able to achieve this look today, since it takes awhile to get that blonde look. I asked her if she could do old school highlights with the foil, because I used to get them done and they always worked after just one appointment. Leah told me she'd rather do balayage then foil highlights and that she was sure I would prefer it since it's less maintenance (I've had balayage twice before so I agreed, though I had only had balayage for low lights, so wasn't sure what the final result would look like with highlights). She showed me pictures of what she thought she could achieve and again I commented that I wanted more contrast between light and dark. I wanted highlights. She said I might have to come back in June for a second round of highlights in case it didn't work this time. I agreed and we got to it. Fast forward to the end. She showed me the back of my head and I struggled with what to say, so I said "I'll be honest and say I don't love it. It's not bad at all, it's fine, it's just not what I asked for. There aren't any highlights." She immediately got defensive and said the lighting was bad and that she TOLD me she couldn't do highlights on my hair, and that it would take more than one time. I said yes I just thought there would be a difference between light and dark, ie: more contrast. She then told me that it's not possible to add highlights to colored brown hair. I am by no means an expert on hair dye, so I said "there's no point in arguing, it's fine. I'll pay now thanks." If it had ended there with an apology from Leah and a "how can I make it better? Want to schedule the next round of highlights and I promise it'll look like those photos you showed me?!" then this would be a 4 or 5 star review. However it didn't stop there. She continued to argue with me about why it wasn't possible to do highlights in my dyed brown hair. I couldn't help myself and said "my friend just went from dyed black hair to bleached blonde hair in one sitting. How is it not possible to add highlights to mine?" And that's when she said "How much did she pay for that? Your friend probably spent 8 hours at the salon. I charge $100 per hour for that kind of work and I would have scheduled you for the whole day. That's called a color correction". I said "well why didn't you offer that to me? Why didn't you tell me that was what I needed?" and she said (keep in mind we are in front of everyone in the salon) "because you were budget conscious. Would you have paid $400 for your hair to be highlighted?" I was completely offended and taken aback. First of all, I was not budget conscious. I didn't reach out to her asking for a discount, she reached out to me. I get my hair done every 3-4 months. I am not some cheapo who won't pay to get what I really want. Once she said that budget comment I said "so you mean to tell me that I could have paid more and sat in that chair a bit longer under the lights and I'd have the color I wanted?" and she again said "yes for $100 per hour!" with a tone that implied "would you have paid that?" By the way 50% off came out to $108 for just highlighting (that includes 20% tip). No cut. I don't think that's a "budget shopper", but even if it is, you don't insult your customer like that. :( I wouldn't recommend Leah. read more

They pipe in relaxing music, provide free wifi, are kid-friendly, offer complimentary beverages and most importantly, great haircuts from Holli (She does all types of hair). I looked through their Instagram and booked with Holli and can not recommend the salon or Holli highly enough. The actual space is so low key, yet cute and cozy. Love the vibe. And Holli has been great to work with. I have been getting my haircut exclusively by Jesse for about two years now. I actually followed her to The Chair from another salon she worked at. She is hands down the best hairdresser I have ever had. She listens to what you want and gets you to your hair goals. I used to wear my hair long and blow dry it out or straighten it and she gave me perfect layered cuts for this look... now I have started to wear it shorter and like to wear my natural waves, and she has given me a great haircut to fit this look for the texture of my hair.
