We have enjoyed the food and atmosphere here in the past but unfortunately we had an extremely unfortunate experience! I had planned a very special dinner celebration for my sister and her husband's 50th wedding anniversary. We had a reservation for 10 which was confirmed 2 weeks prior via the owner. Our guests travelled a long way for this event (as far as Atlanta). When we arrived we found the restaurant closed, ruining our celebration. This is a tired, run down, dirty, overpriced (almost $275/night) place. The property location and outdoor space are very nice. The room we stayed in was awful. It had a strong musty, dank smell. We left the sliding door open at all times when in the room and it did not help. The door handle was broken and would not stay closed. The bathroom had hair (not from someone's head) around the sink and toilet when we checked in. The white towels in the bathroom had disturbing yellow stains on them. The shower curtain was stained. The sink and shower fixtures in the bathroom are old and dirty, the toilet seat loose and ill fitting. I strongly recommend looking for accommodations elsewhere. read more

I've been here a lot over the years and this visit was really great! Our sever was David and he suggested our wine and pizza and they were fantastic, pizza was a tad pricey but we were full after a few slices and had more to take home so not complaining. Swings at the bar and an amazing beach view. Loved the whole visit. read more

Not one to write reviews but AVOID this place. I should have been smarter when booking but was swayed by the photos and was hoping to give it a chance. Pam, the owner, terrible customer service. After reading SO many other experiences, you have to know this wasn't a one off situation. Rooms are dingy, beds are old and uncomfortable. Very cute outside bar area but wasn't open when we were there. sad to see so much potential but there are plenty of other places to stay at that are more worthy of hard earned $$ by people vacationing. read more

Something is seriously wrong with the owner here. I noticed other reviews that mentioned her having an altered level of consciousness and I had a similar experience. She starts the day off friendly and communicative but like clockwork toward the evening she turns into a very agitated person. The best way to describe it is she is completely nonsensical. We ended up leaving after an evening of ordered food and drinks from her bar and trying to enjoy the property. The rest of the staff was friendly but as soon as she showed up the mood changed. She basically followed us around the property as we were moving from the restaurant area, to the sitting area and then down to the beach. She was hostile and rude. Also, there was a chair floating in the lake they should really take better care of their lawn furniture. read more

I can't articulate enough what this quick unanticipated stop did for my psyche and my visit. This hidden gem hideaway was just breathtaking and reminded me of being in California. The proprietor, Pam, turned on some really quaint music and I was able to take my glass of wine outside on the swings at the bar, then walked around and ended up going to the dock and stuck my feet into the 73 or so degree crystal clear waters of Lake Michigan right in front of the expansed green lawn and interesting covered (or not) two seaters for viewing and imbibing while perhaps reading a book or snuggling. Room was NOT as described or up to standards of price. Upon check in we could tell the owner was not sober. Room was clean upon appearance but a couple of window blinds on windows were broken. The bed was smaller and older in size and age than what was stated, would have been more comfortable to sleep on the dirty floor. Took about 1/2 hour to order drinks and the wrongs ones were brought to the table and still charged for the mistake even though it was sent back. The fruit flies were a HUGE issue and staff became annoyed when we asked to relocate inside. It took over 2 1/2 hours from ordering to table delivery for his salmon dinner. Before we went to bed, we found a condo via Air BnB to relocate to - DO NOT STAY HERE. We tried to get a some type of refund saying we had to leave due to emergency but was fully charged. read more

We can only comment on the wine, pizza and view. The place is old and tired and the rooms are really sad and overpriced. We passed on staying there but the location, view, pizza and wine were wonderful. So save yourself the disappointment and just do what we did: have a lovely sunset time with wine and pizza (truly delicious) and enjoy the lawn chairs and view. Stay somewhere else. We were on vacation and went here as it looked like a great place. The ambiance was beautiful, the wine was good...but the service was terrible. Our server who I believe she was the owner... was getting high off her own supply, as she was drinking. Her speech was slurred and she messed our order up several times. There were six of us and they were not that busy. We finally asked for the bill and we told her that we no longer wanted the two orders that hadn't been served yet, as it had been over an hour and we all just shared the pizza and just wanted to leave. She insisted on bringing the two dishes and they arrived 15 minutes later and we asked for the check again. When she brought the check the two dishes were on there. We had reservations for a Monday and Tuesday and were not told the restaurant and bar are closed these days. We were looking forward to sitting on the beach and not going out for dinner. They showed us the room were to occupy and it was terrible. Smelled very bad and looked very old. Would not recommend this place at all. read more

This Inn has so much going for it except for the owner. For the positives: My family rented out the entire inn for our wedding weekend. On arrival they let my fiance and I pick out our favorite room and then since they knew I was going to be getting ready for the wedding in the room, they set up a full length mirror. They also provided us with a bottle of campaign which was a nice touch. All rooms have a view of the water and all have an outdoor area to sit. All the rooms that I was in were larger. I would call the rooms clean but you can tell corners were cut with repairs. (There were holes in the bathroom ceiling.) The Inn is located on the bay and has an area to lay out and an outside bar set up that is quite nice. On the main level they also have a small restaurant that is open to the public. There are fire pits that guests can use and a long dock where one could bring their boat. The food at the restaurant is good, the pizza is great. They have their own catering business as well. We used them for our rehearsal dinner that was held on the lawn. They set up a tent and everyone loved the BBQ food and view. At night we used one of their fire pits for a smore bar. I have also been up in the fall and used their wine chauffeur business. They have multiple vehicles that can be rented privately or they do group tours on the trolley. Myself and four friends did the group tour and had a good time. For the negatives: The owners own quite a bit in the Suttons Bay area including; The Inn, the catering business, wine chauffeur, their own vineyard, and two higher end barn locations for weddings. I don't know how one can own so many aspects of a business and be so unorganized. We were thinking about getting married at one location. Set up a tour, drove 4 hours to get there and no one was around. Grounds keepers called and the staff "forgot" about it. Not acceptable when you want me to shell out $8,000 just for a venue fee. After the wedding weekend, the Inn owed us money back. Multiple, multiple phone calls were either answered and she had a reason to not be able to talk, or she did not return messages. It took a family member driving 4 hours to make her sit down tie up the loose ends. She thought we owed her money when is actuality she owed us thousands. I believe a couple driving through and did not have to deal with details of a wedding would give this Inn a 4/5 stars. read more

Spectacular view! Give me one week at this place and I would get the grounds in shape. Such potential, flowers dying from the heat. Weeds and flower-boxes not planted. Sliding doors to the lake won't even open! Room 5 has little kitchen but so poorly equipped it's hardly usable. We gave the housekeeper a list of 8 things we needed, they provided 2! And these were things like a dish cloth. They did provide a (USED) dish scrubber. We didn't eat at the overpriced restaurant. Didn't surprise me they had only a few full tables a night. The sign for the restaurant was overgrown with weeds!!! How can someone own such a prime piece of property and not keep it up. Pluses-nice dock, beach, adirondack chairs, comfortable bed, good shower. To the owners-hire a gardener and replace your old sliding doors (with holes in them). Clean up the details and you will get repeat customers. read more

This Inn was the perfect place for a wedding weekend. We stayed as part of the wedding party at the 12-room inn, and enjoyed every second. The Vineyard Inn has a lot to offer and I would definitely stay again. The large rehearsal dinner (50+ people) was held at the Inn, and included a wonderful buffet-style BBQ dinner. It was odd that they still had the restaurant open to the public while the rehearsal dinner was directly next door, but it didn't seem to have an effect on either. The bartenders didn't have a very good plan with the party and the regular guests, which was the one complaint I had the entire stay. We ordered pizza from the restaurant one night and they were amazing! Woodfired and perfectly cooked with delicious toppings. Their dinner menu looked very good but we unfortunately did not have a chance to try anything else. The Inn has a nice beach with two fire pits (that were great at night!) and a long dock with several spots to dock a boat and also to swim. It looked like the water was low because there was an area between the sand and water that appeared wet and weedy. The rooms were very well appointed, with plenty of room and all with a beautiful view. Our room had a nice little kitchenette, including wine bottles and a cork screw for our Vineyard Tour purchases. Overall, it was a great stay at the Vineyard Inn. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends. read more

We stayed four nights last week and it was disappointing. The positives: terrific location near Suttons Bay. Beautiful view of the lake. Small beach with plenty of seating. Negatives: Stray hairs on the pillows when we got there. A bathtub so old and stained that it always looked dirty. Reading lamps installed improperly. They were installed about four feet above the bed and couldn't be adjusted. Low quality towels. No screen on the patio doors so we couldn't enjoy the lake breezes (loads of bugs trying to get inside). Our room felt half finished - no artwork anywhere. Drapes on the patio doors but blinds on the window. They need blackout drapes as the patio lights shine into the room at night. There isn't a closet - there's a wall mounted shelf/hanger unit. And the bathroom is so small there's no spot to place a cosmetics bag. It sure didn't feel like a "suite." For $175/night and $195/night on the weekends, I expect a lot more. read more

So my wife and I stayed at the Vineyard Inn for the last 3 nights for our first anniversary. The Inn was nice, but is capable of so much more! First off, the exterior is in need of some tree and bush trimming. They have a couple of light posts out front, both of which are completely covered with vines and one of them even has the vines growing inside of the light itself. The tree right in front that hangs over the circle drive has branches hanging so low, you have to walk all the way around it and they have a fountain in the center of the circle drive that has been re-purposed as a flower bed, but there were no flowers in it, just dirt so it looked very tacky and unmanaged. In fact there are many planters around the front of the inn that had no plants in them and were just dirt. We had a Lakeview Suite which was nice, it was clean, but as other reviewers had mentioned there are areas where you can tell corners were cut during the remodel or that they just need more attention and there isn't a handyman onsite. The tops of the tub enclosures need to be caulked, the window blind in our room was broken, the sliding screen door is hard to open and close and doesn't roll smoothly, the mini fridge with freezer needs to be defrosted to get rid of the 2" of ice buildup inside, and the shower head is in dire need of either replacement or a deep cleaning with CLR. The beds were kind of uncomfortable. I think they advertize them as being a pillow top mattress and if they are, the pillow top has been heavy worn out. The beds sounded too like that had a plastic sheet over them (you know the type you use on beds when kids can't hold it through the night) although I never pulled the fitted sheet off to check. It was nice that every room has either a patio or balcony attached with chairs and the views of the bay from the rooms are great! Many spots outside on the lawn and beach to sit and having the bonfire pits lit at night was really nice. They had bean bag toss set up in the back for guests to use as well. They have a restaurant attached too, Corky's. We were going to have dinner there Thursday night when we arrived after being on the road for that last 8 hours, but they were closed and are only open on the weekends even though their website states "Open Daily for Dinner at 5:00", so we had to go somewhere else. After that night, we read the reviews for Corky's and opted to continue going elsewhere for dinner. By the way, the plants are so overgrown in the front around Corky's sign that all you can read is "orky's". We thought it odd as well on how not busy Corky's was. They have a great looking space, right on the water, with a great outdoor bar and yet on a busy Friday and Saturday night, they had maybe 5 or 6 tables with guests, the bar was closed, and just barely had any business, and yet almost every restaurant in downtown Suttons Bay, only 2 miles away, has a wait to get in the door. So, all in all, not a bad experience, just not exactly what I thought I was getting for how much I paid a night to stay there. I think I'll watch for some more positive reviews from Yelpers though before we decide to go back. read more

We just returned and we are already looking forward to coming back next summer, if not before. The pictures on their site do not due the grounds justice. What a beautiful location and setting. While some of the reviews I had read said the owner was less than friendly we found that to be quite the opposite. Pam was very cordial and we spent one evening at the bar (Pam's birthday) talking with her and her husband, Steve. The staff was amazing! One of the servers, Amy, made you feel like you were long lost friends from the moment she greeted you. While sitting on the deck outside our room I could see that most of her tables ended their dinners by giving her a hug. The rooms, while a little rustic, was very nicely appointed and clean and the kitchenette in our suite was a nice touch. I loved sitting on the deck each morning and at the beach each evening. They were fabulous places to just relax. We'll be back! read more

I have not stayed here personally, but I was planning on using their wedding package services for my ceremony and reception luncheon next year. Keep in mind, myself, my fiance, my wedding party, and almost all my guests are from Ohio. This is why it was so important for me to get things booked so far in advance because accommodations in this area book very quickly and I wanted to give my guests as much time as I could to book their stays. For over a month, I have been trying to get information from Pam about their different packages and about booking my date for next year. Small wedding (25 people) and it was going to be on a Friday -- should've been easy enough. FOR OVER A MONTH I have called every week and every time I spoke with her, Pam told me she would send me something "this weekend" or "in the next couple of days". I just spoke with her this morning and she JUST NOW told me that they aren't booking anything for next year because they believe they might still be under construction for the bistro. NOT ONCE DID SHE RETURN MY PHONE CALLS OR MY SEVERAL EMAILS. I have been polite and I have been patient, but you cannot string people along like this. Terrible customer service. Such a shame for such a beautiful wedding venue. read more

Watch the dates in the reviews, most are quite old. My wife and I checked in last night. Major disappointment. Stairwell has not been sweep in weeks, a window in our room could not be closed because of a screw sticking out of the frame. The "silverware" is ridiculous. The refrigerator is a wine cooler at 55 degrees.....will not keep most foods safe. Just now my wife turned on the hairdryer provided and ALL the power in the room went out. No staff on premises, called the number on a sheet of paper scotch taped to a window and the person I talked with said she would have someone drive over and turn in back on. The GFI in the bathroom will not reset. The bathtub fixture is missing a part. And we have been here less than 16 hours.....update to the review. I called back to see when someone might've coming to turn on the power and the mailbox is full so no messages can be left..... read more

All the bad reviews are right on, whether you read them here or on trip advisor or wherever there are reviews of this place. My optimism in this case didn't pay off and it was just as bad as it sounds; the only semi-redeeming factor was the view of the bay. If I could give less stars, I would. Don't stay here. A couple quick bullet points: - VERY disorganized upon check in; they gave our room and package (champagne, "fire starter kit" in quotes because it doesn't work, and "smores kit" also in quotes because the sticks were skewers where you'd definitely burn your hand and eyebrows off) to another couple, and the owner only told us this when we were discussing changing our package - the room they gave us smelled really weird and was probably the smallest room ever, a big downsize from the one they gave away - broken screen door and blinds that wouldn't open because "the building is settling" and "we're planning to build a new building next year" ...because you can't even keep up the building you already have? Lots of excuses from the owner, seemed more defensive and lacking any idea of what goes into the business of hospitality - When we came back to our room after being out exploring, our door was wide open because they had just come to clean up...we had left 7-8 hours earlier. I don't like giving negative reviews, and again, I kept optimistic even after reading SEVERAL bad reviews, but for what you pay for this place, it is so not worth it. The website really sells it, but upon looking again, she gives a disclaimer against the bad reviews ON THE WEBSITE. Big red flag. Two very enthusiastic thumbs down. read more

The only reason this gets a 2 stars is the views. This Inn has so much potential and yet they chose to spot clean there rooms, you could see through the shades in our room so the evening was a little unsettling especially when the bar is right outside of your room. Went to the restaurant to complain talked to waitress, ( the owner was there she could have cared less) . I could go on and on but I won't . SO DISAPPOINTED! !!! I'm writing this review after a two night midweek stay last week. As another reviewer stated, my stars are based on the views and the possibilities. Anthony from Hotel Impossible should be summoned to this place to fix it! Upon check-in we were guided to our "suite" only to find that there were clothes hanging in the closet (that was room 10 - probably the nicest of all that I saw.) Whoops. We were taken to another room, a studio this time. I booked and paid for a lakeview suite, not a studio. When I mentioned that, we were taken to the third room, a lakeview loft. Mmmkay. The kitchenette was dirty and falling apart. The coffee maker wouldn't brew. The tiny bathroom had a space for four light bulbs but only three were present. Darkest bathroom I've ever tried to get ready in. There was a dead fly behind the bathroom door for the entire stay. The downstairs had a window type a/c unit that was on and was freezing all the time. The cold didn't reach the upstairs loft (bed) area so it was hot when trying to sleep. The bed squeaked with every move and I'm not 100% certain that the sheets were clean. We didn't eat at the restaurant but we did go over for a wine tasting. (Hint, go to a different vineyard, I was not impressed with the wines) While there, the cook was making pizza, working in the kitchen with no gloves. A guest came in and not so discreetly mentioned that her toilet was overflowing. The cook left to go help her. When done, he came back and still didn't put gloves on. Gross. Upon checkout we handed in the keys and not once was I asked how my stay was, nor was I given a receipt. We paid over $200 a night and this was by far the dirtiest place I've ever stayed. The outdoor photos on yelp are spot on, the grounds are fabulous. I just wish someone with skill and knowledge and the best interest of the guests would take this place over. It could be so great. I called to make a reservation for Labor Day Weekend and when I told them it would be a family of three with one young child who is 4. The woman took my information and said I would get an email confirmation (never received). I asked if the Inn was full that weekend or if there were open rooms because we may invite friends along for the weekend too and she stated that they don't really like to have young children at the Inn as it causes issues with being close to the water. That comment took me by surprise since I had already told her our son would be coming with and she took my credit card information for the reservation. I talked with my husband and we choose to select another accommodation for the weekend in the area. When I called back today (3 days after setting reservation; 3 weeks before said reservation date) and my reservation could not be located and when I mentioned the reason for cancelling - the woman became very rude on the phone and demanded the cancellation in writing in email. I sent the email and am writing this review as a beware for families of young children to not book at this location. read more

This little inn has a perfect location in Suttons Bay with magnificent views of lake michigan. We could sit outside on our patio and watch the sunset over lake michigan in the evening! You open your sliding doors and you are right there on the shore of Lake Michigan! The room has a fridge and kitchenette, so you can tour the area, buy fresh produce from the numerous local markets and make your own dinner and enjoy it on the patio. Or you can choose to go down a few steps to the restaurant on the premises: Corky's. They serve the best pizzas in a very scenic and comfortable setting right by the lake. Everything is made with fresh, local ingredients and you can taste it! Pam, the owner, has a vineyard in the area and you can have a wine tasting of their best selection of red and white wines. We were happily surprised by the quality of the wines! A great discovery in Michigan! I would definitely come back and recommend this place to my friends! read more

Experience from beginning to end was terrible. I would never stay there again or recommend it to anyone, there are much better hotels/inns to chose from. Problems with it: 1. Check-in was disorganized, staff didn't know price of wine tour, we were charged the incorrect amount (we were charged tax and our friends with us weren't); they still haven't refunded the amount because the owner wasn't there and the staff didn't know how. We were told he would take care of it that day and call us, no call yet. Our friends made reservations at the same time (the hotel gave their room to a couple with a similar last name a few hrs before we arrived) so they were put in another building without a deck so their view was not good (which they paid for). 2. We asked about continental breakfast and they said there would be one at 9 am (our wine tour started at 10:30am). We got up for breakfast before an all day wine tour, walked down to restaurant at 9:15am and staff was just unlocking the door, hadn't even started breakfast. Then we find out the only free part of breakfast was yogurt and granola so we went to a restaurant and just paid for breakfast. 3. We then left for our wine tour about 11 am instead of 10:30 am (which was also through the hotel). Nobody ever told us of an agenda (where, when we were going to which places and what time we would return for lunch which was also provided by the hotel). In the morning staff told us we would be having salad, pizza and drinks. We arrived back to the hotel for lunch and there was one pizza on the counter so far for 16 people and NO salad at all. When we asked the staff what the deal was they said, "oh the owner was the one who told you this morning that there would be salad and she didn't confirm it with the chef so there isn't any." They must have run to the store because 20 minutes later a small amount of lettuce in a bowl showed up. Then when someone asked when the rest of the pizza would be out the chef said, "well I am a little behind because nobody told me you guys were on your way back yet." And then proceeded to tell us everyone would get 2-3 pieces (small, not enough for an all day wine tour). 3. Wine tour was fun but not worth their cost through the hotel. I have been on a wine tour in the past and it was cheaper and more organized. 4. The hotel room was not clean, dust and grim everywhere. I didn't take pictures but I wish I would have (our friends did and plan on posting them). 5. In the evening my husband decided to take a bath (against my recommendation) but about 20 minutes into it there was a knock on the door and it was the waitress from the restaurant asking if we had the bath water running because it was leaking in to the restaurant bathroom (it was not running anymore). She said it was no big deal and nothing was done about it. 6. We stayed two nights. The second morning (Sunday) we were awaken by loud music below us (which was the restaurant) around 8:00am, we finally just got up, packed and tried to get the "continental breakfast" which was not even out yet so we checked out. Everything that went wrong the staff said, "the owner isn't here, we will find out." There wasn't a single time that they got back with us on anything.
