Raves for the Carbonara which was sooo decadent but somehow delicate too! Noodles cooked to perfection made the sauce swim in every bite. The calamari was slap your nonna good! Neat twist with the fried pepperoni but perfectly crusted and fried squid. 10/10. The cheesy garlic bread was basically Detroit style pizza - the crust buttery and charred. My family and I spent part of our summer in Michigan and we stayed in Traverse City for part of the time. Our meal at The Flying Noodle was the best meal we've had all year. We walked in on a Friday night where it was already very busy. The hostess was kind enough to squeeze me, my husband and my son at some bar seats after a short wait. We sat at the bar with Jake and he was great. Attentive but not obtrusive. He made good recommendations and made polite conversation. We started with the cheesy garlic bread and while that sounds like a pretty basic dish, it was fantastic. My kid loved it so much, he ordered some to-go take back to the hotel for a snack. My son had the pizza and my husband had the alfredo. Both loved their meals. I had their lemon chicken pasta dish and it was the best thing I've eaten in a long time. The chicken was braised and fall apart, packed with complex flavors. The homemade pasta soaks up the delicious sauce. The lemon made the dish bright and flavorful. If we had stayed in Traverse City for any longer, we would have gone to eat here every single day. If we come back, this will definitely be a place we visit again. The service was very friendly, and the food came out promptly. The small Italian chop salad ($8) was ordered to start the meal. There was enough of all the ingredients, and they mixed well with one another. It was lightly dressed too. For dinner, two pastas were split, the pesto ($16) and scallop ($21). The pesto had creste di Gallo pasta with toasted pistachio, basil, and parm. The pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente, but the pesto sauce itself seemed to be missing something. Everything was definitely fresh and the crushed pistachios were a nice touch, but it just seemed to lack something. The scallop had gnocchetti, roasted corn, marinated tomato, white wine sauce, dill, and sunflower sprouts. This was top notch. If I could mark favorite restaurants in the map, this romantic Italian pasta house would be it!!! The lady server was absolutely sweeeeeeeeet, was very accommodating, and celebrated our anniversary with a dessert out of her kindness. Our experience here was truly elevated! Now on the food part, absolutely the best crispy Caesar sandwich I've ever had!!!! Their homemade bread was ricidously good soft and the stuffing of chicken and Caesar salad was absolutely perfect amount texture juicy. The Flying Noodle is an Italian pasta restaurant located on the popular Front Street in downtown Traverse City. There's a good amount of metered street parking and a pay parking lot nearby. We were lucky enough to find a space right out front near their patio seating area. The restaurant is known for its scratch-made Italian pastas in a lively and relaxed environment. We opted for bar seating instead of waiting for a table in the smallish restaurant space that probably seats about fifty. We were fortunate to receive excellent service from the friendly bartender. What immediately stands out to me is the concise menu options. This is usually a good sign that the kitchen won't be overwhelmed with preparing so many different items and what they do offer is of the highest quality. That certainly was the case today! We started with the tasty Garlic Dots that come with a really good marinara for dipping plus garlic and parmesan on top. For entrees we chose the Lemon Chicken and the classic Alfredo with rigatoni and shrimp. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and the perfect portion sizes. In fact, the alfredo sauce is among the best I've ever had! What makes these entrees even better is the housemade pasta that was cooked to "al dente" perfection. We were already pretty full, but couldn't resist ordering the tiramisu. It's a bit different from the typical restaurant-style tiramisu, but it was outstanding and worth every calorie! They offer gluten-free pasta substitutes for those intolerant, which is a huge plus & I have to say the lemon chicken is incredibly delicious. Highly recommend! We arrived about 6:00pm and waited two hours to get a table. When we finally did get a text that our table was ready it was about 8:40. If your on a date I think that's ok, but if your waiting with a family that might be a long wait. This restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating but quite small. I ordered extra chicken and broccoli on mine and I'm glad I did otherwise it would just be basic pasta and sauce and my husband took the servers suggestion and ordered the extra meatballs which were bland in his opinion our son ordered a pizza. I had the most amazing takeout pasta from Flying Noodle during my visit in Traverse City! I had the Alfredo with shrimp and pesto with broccolini. The mafaldine pasta was a fun shape that was cooked perfect al dente and held the sauce well. The alfredo sauce was thick and flavorful, you can really taste the garlic. The pesto was delicious and I loved the broccolini option. I liked that there were large chunks of pine nuts in the pesto sauce. We called in advance to place our order, and it was peak dinner time so it took about 30 minutes to prepare. There's plenty of street parking which made for easy pickup. Their pasta was so good that my partner and I considered going there again the next day!! We were only visiting Traverse City for a few days but we kept wanting to go back. When we first arrived in Traverse City on our road trip we were craving pasta and called in for a to go order, so we could take it to our Airbnb and enjoy. I was surprised that on a Wednesday evening around 8pm, they were packed! When I called, they said the order would take around 20-30 minutes which was accurate. When I walked in to pick it up, there were people waiting outside and inside to dine in because it was so busy. So definitely make a reservation if you want to dine in! And once we had the food, I totally get it!! Maybe the best pasta I've had....ever?!? The highlight was the Alfredo with shrimp. I loved that they use mafaldine pasta which has lots of ridges that really holds the sauce well so that it's perfectly coated. It was also bouncy and slightly al dente. The Alfredo was a great consistency (not too thick or thin) and tasted amazing. Best Alfredo I have ever had! I also really liked the Pesto with Broccolini! It was both light and refreshing as a sauce. The garganelli pasta noodle was a fun shape and complimented the pesto sauce well. I loved that the whole pine nuts added textural variety to the dish and made it even more fun to eat. The Broccolini was also tasty and complimented the pasta very well. 10/10 would order/come again! Happy to report that all the great reviews aren't just hype! I am glad we chose to have our last dinner of the trip at Flying Noodle. It didn't disappoint and I wish I could eat this pasta dish all over again! Walking up there appeared to be quite a wait but we had our hearts set on this place for dinner and were willing to wait. I was impressed to see the manager bussing tables and helping as much as possible to get guests seated as quickly as possible. I have a lot of respect for management who isn't above pitching in and remains kind to their staff during a rush. Our server was great, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. All things that make for a great experience. We were seated outside as we didn't have a preference and despite the leaning table and slight drizzle, all the staff was friendly, had great suggestions and we had a great meal! I asked for a dairy free option and they were happy to accommodate. I mentioned a menu item that sounded good if possible to have something similar made dairy free and they chef had no problem creating something delicious. It was crunchy and the bright flavors of the sauce drizzled on top tied it all together. It also had fried pepperoni pieces in it too, which we all surprisingly liked.
