My wife and I agree. Vino- Volo Wine Bar is a keeper. We had a 3 hour lay over to connect to our next flight. We had 2 different flights of red wines. The selections were beyond expectation. We added a tray of cheese and cured meat with relishes and crisp toast. YUM! We added an order of the salmon rolls. Another YUM! Vino Volo is tiny with seating for around 40 guests at tables and the bar. The atmosphere is relaxed and service is attentive but a bit over worked at times. The location near Gate A40 is central and makes for easy access when making connections. read more

Nice place to be for a drink and a bite to eat before flights. They have the comfy chair which is hard to find in airports. Also the food is good as well as the selection of wine. Don't expect a full range of wine selection but you will find its better, way better than standard airport affair. The lamb meatballs are dry, so if you have high expectation don't do it. First of all, after reading the reviews on this page I thought this place had beer, but apparently they only have wine. That was ok, but I was just under the impression, due to the info on this page that they had beer too. Whatever. I felt really out of place when I walked in this wine shop, but felt better about myself when I saw the more-well-off-than-me woman sitting at a table with her shoes off and feet up on one of the chairs. Ummm, ok. Classy. I had a glass of red wine and some cheese. I was surprised they had food, so that was cool. I like to eat something when I'm drinking, especially before going on a plane. The music was sort of awful, but the bar staff was really cool and laid back and the wine and cheese was yummy. I only wish I had had longer than 30 minutes to kill so I could've tried some other wines. I saw someone having a wine sampling, but I didn't have time to try any of those. Maybe next time. Overall, cool place. Never thought I'd see a place like that in an airport. read more

Stopped here for a drink before my flight back home.This was your standard airport bar. They had a standard bar and a mixture of cocktails on their menu. Their food menu was limited, not palace you would go specifically for food, but had good finger foods to snack on while drinking. The bar area was quite small and there were a lot of people there. Live music was playing which gave it a nice touch. If you are looking for a more intimate, quite, replacing bar then this is not the place for you. It was quite loud and right by the area where you come in through security. I ordered a martini and it was good. Nothing special but it was tasty. The prices were your standard overpriced airport drink price. Overall, I would not return. I found a better bar Cat Cora's down the terminal which I would highly recommend. read more

He chatted up everyone else and was attentative to everyone but me. I was only able to order dessert when I flagged the other waiter down, unfortunately he had left for the night not too long after so I got no service at all after his departure. Well if you like the staff to steal your credit card or lay victim to identity theft please visit Vino Volo! (a.k.a. Taste, Inc.) I stopped here on a connection and accidentally left my card when leaving. When I arrived at my destination I realized that I left my card there contacted the staff and they stated they still had my card and would destroy it. I was really surprised to get a call from AMEX a few days later when someone was using that card across Canada. Clearly the card was not destroyed and was stolen by the staff. Thanks VIno Volo! What was even more saddening and scary is when I contacted the manager about this his response was "Really?" and acting as though they did nothing wrong. What was even more disturbing is when contacting the HQ of Taste, Inc. that owns Vino Volo is that the Executives there deny any wrong doing. I tried contacting Doug Tomlinson, CEO, and spoke with Chris Simmons but they were of no help. For the sake of your identity theft sake, so not visit Vino Volo, or use cash. read more

So bizarre to be sitting in an airport wine bar at least in this country right? I see from their menu that they've also got one at JFK (home airport) which leads me to believe that, finally, air travel may be shifting to a more civilized experience for us masses, even in spite of the egregious events that lead up to getting on this side of security! The menu is appropriately small tastes, food with suggested wine pairings, in a space that likely seems quick turnover (who really lingers at an airport much? Well, of course, in a place like Detroit's airport, designed as a hub for transferring from regional mid-western cities to international destinations, probably a lot of travellers spend significant time here, so it makes sense in that way), and the wine is not at all adventurous, but is instead surprisingly well selected. Love this place. I had a 2 hour delay, and wandered past. Hallelujah! A decent glass of wine and some tasty food! I got one of the wine flights, and it was great. Your get to taste 4 different wines for about $13 bucks. I also had a bowl of chickpea chorizo chili, and it was really tasty. Comfy, clean, upscale environment was a welcome refuge from the loud poorly run places you usually encounter in airports. Not cheap, but certainly no more than you would pay for the same service downtown in a major city. Very nice place to relax. read more

I had a longer layover than expected this past week so I stopped in for a tasting. I had the white wine flight which included a Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay. The Sauvignon Blanc was my favorite, very fruity and smooth. I liked the Pinot Grigio the second best and lastly the Chardonnay. I'm usually a Chardonnay girl but this one was a little too dry for my liking. I also had half a chicken sandwich and the cheese platter which was delish! Met some other really nice ladies at the tasting as well. The tasting, a glass of the Sauvignon Blanc and my food was 32 bucks which isn't bad especially for an airport. The staff was very accommodating and friendly as well. read more

I love wine but I am always hesitant to buy wine by myself, afraid im not going to pronounce something properly.... but this was a welcome change!! I did the Red Harvest Flight, and really enjoyed the attentive service of the staff, very welcoming, NOT pushy!! they recommended a few wines I might enjoy based off the red harvest flight and they were dead on. I also enjoyed the three cheese penne pasta with truffle oil, so much better than what im used to eating while traveling. The food was excellent but the service was absolutely horrible. I walked in to a nearly empty restaurant and received no acknowledgement...even after making eye contact with the two that were on staff. Another lady walked in and got serviced right away because she was a regular. I finally had someone come to my table to take my order. I ordered five salmon rolls and only received 3. They brought the other 2 later after I reminded them that I ordered 5. I ordered dessert and I'm still waiting for it 30 minutes later. No apologies and no communication. I stopped at Vino Volo with my 91 yr old mother to grab lunch which wasn't fast food. Chris - the most service oriented, smart, and friendliest guy working in the food industry that I've met set us up quickly with a cheese plate and prosciutto/ Brie sandwich. Delicious! My mom also loved it and now wants fig jam! On our return trip, we stopped there again and Chris was there and he remembered us and gave us the same amazing service. This time I had time for wine. I challenge you to find a better place to kill time at DTW airport that does not require you to have elite status with Delta. Even then, I am thinking that I would rather be here. Flights of wine are very reasonably priced or you can pick a glass from their expansive selection. They have tapas to snack on, including desserts, but I did not have time for that. Another big win is their uber comfortable chairs. If you need a last minute gift for someone, bottles are pretty reasonably priced. It is right across the terminal from Popeye's by Gate A43, so now you have a place to go when Delta delays or cancels your flight. Huzzah! read more

If you are at Detroit-Ft. Wayne Airport and have 30 minutes to spare, I recommend a stop here for a glass of wine or three and a light meal. The "flights" of 3 wines are always well-thought out and tasy. The almonds, olives, cheeses and salads are fresh and complement the wines very nicely. There is a cozy and comfy vibe that I find very relaxing amid the hubub of this sprawling airport. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable regarding the wines and menu. Based on one visit Service was friendly and brisk, they were excellent at serving quickly, as is ideal in an airport setting Wine selection was broad and interesting, they had interesting flights (e.g., Oregon wines, French reds, bargain reds, etc.) as well as wines available individually by the glass as well as many available by the bottle. Flights were offered with informative tasting notes, and I felt they were fairly priced and enjoyable Food on the other hand was more of a miss, though I did only try one dish: the pork taco (yes, singular). Maybe I've been spoiled by LA, and after all this *is* Detroit, and an airport no less, but it could have been much better: for $5, the single pork taco was rather small and wan, with dry meat, lackluster sauce, and a forgettable mass-produced corn tortilla. I understand however that this was just one experience, and perhaps it's unreasonable to expect too much, esp when the food is prepared so quickly to travelers on a time crunch. Still, I'd consider trying other dishes, or eating elsewhere and focusing on the wine experience here which is clearly their strength read more

I asked for just a taste of chardonnay and the wine pourer said..."Oh...you want a two ounce pour?" I said, "No...I want a taste to know if I want to purchase a $16 glass of wine." His response..."We have to charge for everything we pour." Absolutely ridiculous. You would think they were pouring Chateau Margaux by the glass. The wine selections are very good without being overly expensive. The portions for both wine and food are generous and the waitstaff doesn't rush to get you out quick.
