Bought a case online for pickup at the store. Went to store during normal open hours to find a "Closed" sign in window and message on door that the store is closed "until further notice". Upon approaching the door to take a photo of the message, a gentleman opened the door and advised me the store was closed but he allowed some customers in. I advised that I had purchased wine and was there to pick it up. He allowed me in and told me he was the owner and buyer of the wines but knew nothing about the counter area where purchases by customers were made. There were no other workers in the store. I signed for my wine and left thinking that this shop is no longer a reliable place to purchase wine. read more

I have spent many thousands of dollars at this store over many years going back to their prior location. After over a decade a patronage, I went in to return a defective $60 bottle. If I were some guy always finding problems I get it, but this was ONE TIME in over 15 years! They refused to even exchange the bottle!! Say what? I have been shopping here for years. At the old location and the current one. I went in today to buy our stash for the quarantine. I was the only customer in the store. I counted at least 6 employees. I didn't need help finding wines I wanted so I grabbed 6 bottles and put on the counter. I stood waiting for someone to check me out. A sales lady walked behind the counter. I thought she was going to ring me up but she went to another employee at desk behind counter to discuss a wine. One of the other employees called to her from the back of store that he saw that I was ready. She yelled back at him " I know but I'm working on something " . She proceeded to walk by me no less than 3 times. Never acknowledged me .. could have said " I'll be right with you or something " but she didn't even glance at me. After standing there a few more minutes in disbelief I left my items on the counter and left. As I left I said to her .. " thanks for your help, I'll shop elsewhere from now on". I have always put up with the wine snob attitude here as they do have a decent selection and good prices. I will never set foot here again. I highly doubt they will be in business much longer anyways. read more

While they have a great selection, particularly with German Riesling, Red Burgundy, Champagne, Tuscany, and Piemonte, they have zero accountability when it comes to flawed bottles. I've had three corked bottles over the past few months and they refuse to replace with a current vintage or even offer credit, which is extremely rare in the world of wine retail. Too bad since their selection is nice. I simply can't comprehend a business not accepting responsibility for the selections they offer, especially when they end up getting a credit back from the local distributor or winery where the wine originated before ending up on their shelves. This is the reason wineries have insurance to address issues with tainted bottles. So it's either abject selfishness or outright laziness on the part of Vinopolis. Note, I contacted the winery directly in regards to one of the bottles in question and they not only cheerfully sent me a replacement but also expressed disappointment in Vinopolis' arbitrary policy. People are throwing shade on this place, which makes me think that there is a lack of appreciation for their fine collection of wines and spectacular prices. Yes the customer service could be friendlier and checking your purse at the door seems unnecessary, there must be a reason for it. But I don't know what it is. While not friendly, the service is perfectly fine and they know their stuff. I asked for help finding a bold Oregon Pinot, as I'm not a fan but trying to find some that I like, which should be easy here. I gave the attendant my specs and price range and she delivered with a knock out Belle Pente from willamette valley for $21. Very impressed. They have a strong selection of wines and their volume of online business allows them to offer prices that are below almost everywhere else. I know this, I buy a lot of wine. All I all I had a very good experience and will be back to try more pinots and pick up some Of my faves at crazy prices. read more

First visit to this new location. In fact, it's been so long since I've been to Vinopolis that I didn't even know they had moved. I used to shop the old store plenty often back in the day. While these new digs seem a little more sterile, the wine selection here continues to be top notch. This is the place I go when I need to score something interesting and I want mad selection. They have everything. And while it can be fun to poke around at smaller wine shops in town, this is the only store that simply home in on when I want the highest likelihood of finding something I want. Pricing here is generally very good. If not way better than most other shops in town. Whether you're in the market for some old brunello or magnums of champagne, they have some pretty rad options in all price ranges. My most recent pickup was some Gimonnet Special Club 2005 and 2007, both priced at $59. A quick internet search will tell you that's a good retail price. Their Bollinger Cuvee was about $10 under average retail price as well. In fact, I had to stop myself from just going nuts in the bubbles section altogether. I definitely dig the parking situation in this new location. While I'll miss the more dated, classic environs of the old store, this new one will do just fine. This is the best wine shop in the whole greater Portland area for really high-quality wines, French Chateauneuf du Papes, Burgundies, Italian Brunellos and especially German wines or Champagne. Good selection of better Oregon juice and some of the better California and Washington examples. Good and courteous staff that are willing to share with you their experiences with some of the juice they've tasted there or help direct you to the stuff you might enjoy if you let them know what you like or have enjoyed in the past. Some of the lowest prices in the US on mid-priced to upper-end wines. They don't try to upsell or ignore you if you're shopping for less expensive yet tasty offerings. read more

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. We have been customers of Vinopolis for many years and have bought over $6000 worth of wine from them. They do not care about customer service. We needed to cancel an order that had not yet shipped and they still charged us a 10% restocking fee. This is not how you should treat long-time customers and we will never buy from them again. I don't know what possessed two of the three most recent reviewers to give such curt and uninformative evaluations. Perhaps being asked to park their bags, if indeed that is what happened - and then more than likely for security purposes since Vinopolis has many wines worth over $200- $500 on their racks, got their Louis Vuitton attitudes in a twist. My experiences over the years, along with those of many wine drinking friends have almost always been good to excellent, especially if you were looking for stuff off the beaten path or on allocation. My only disappointments have come from a couple times when I'd gone back to get more of a particularly great bargain to find that they were out and no more to be had in Oregon. So these days I pop the cork right away and then go back for more if I really liked the wine. Their old location on Washington & 10 had a parking problem (solved at the new location) and one of their old employees was allegedly a bit of a wine snob, although he never gave me any attitude and was quite helpful/knowledgeable on the two times I asked for his input. So here's my bottom line on this place: If you're looking to find good deals on your favorite wine-in-a-box, you'd probably be better off at Costco or Target. If you're looking to upgrade your palate and are ready to spend $10+ (most of the stuff I've purchased there has averaged less than $17/bottle), then you may be in luck and if you're looking for some of the world's top offerings from Burgundy, Bordeaux, Italy, Germany along with some especially difficult to locate trophy Oregon Pinot Noirs, then you should take a look, and/or maybe sign up for their newsletter. I read it on line every now and then. If you're familiar w/WineSearcher.com you'll find Vinopolis's prices, expecially on top wines to, more often than not, be the lowest in the US, even without taking into consideration shipping costs/risks, taxes and time. Their people at the new location were all helpful and honest in answering my questions but never intruded. They were easy to talk to and if anything, too polite. If you know anything about wine, can tell them what you're looking for in a wine, you might be hard pressed to do better in the Portland area. I'm just bummed that their Aussie offerings have dwindled to almost nothing to make room for boat loads of rose and bubbly. read more

Don't overthink it, this is a really good wine shop. There is a wide range of prices with probably only half the bottles being on the upper end of my personal spending price. However, the numerous recommended 11$-25$ bottle that's I've purchased have been some of the more memorable wines I've tasted. If you want something for a special occasion in higher price point the selection gets heavy, basically the entire range of options from St Cosme and numerous selected gems from all over. They model their store after the burgundy region I think they said and so there are lots of amazing Pinot and Chardonnay both local but largely European and abroad. The staff have always been knowledgeable and friendly to me with 9/10 recs being exactly what I was looking for. Nearly every bottle has a label with description and points if you're shopping without help. No bags/ purses in store due to people knocking over bottles, so just leave it at the counter and browse this incredible selection. read more

I would not recommend Vinopolis for Bordeaux futures. I waited years and never received my order. I had to call and email multiple times to check the status and finally to get a refund. Each time the staff member needed to "talk to the owner", but no follow up action was taken. 2 stars since the staff was actual very nice even with their Kafkaesque responses. read more

I'm not sure if these other reviewers are in the same Vinopolis I'm in. This store rocks! Perhaps the finest selection in the PNW, certainly in Portland. Prices are fantastic. Staff is superb, knowledgable, and friendly. While the selection here doesn't compare to the big wine shops in the LA area, this is by far the biggest selection in the Portland area of well known wines and lesser known value wines, from the U.S. and around the world. I particularly like that they have ratings and reviews posted next to most of their wines, which makes it easy to shop. The prices are about the best in town too. You really can ask to keep your purse/bag with you while you shop; I always do and there has never been a problem. Just tell them that you know someone who does this all the time. I do well shopping on my own, but whenever I've had a question they are prompt and courteous. I highly recommend this wine shop. read more

Wow, after reading the reviews I thought I better put in my opinion because who are these people who felt they could walk into a high end wine shop and not have to check their bags at the counter and then were offended? I want to be able view and to handle the bottles and the only way to allow this and prevent theft is make everyone check their bag. The people who complain about this aren't accustomed to the world of high end wine. Vinopolis is truly a world class wine shop and Portland is lucky to have such an establishment.The staff is knowledgeable and professional. The selection is curated by some first class wine buyers. The prices are rock bottom. I am usually not judgmental but the people who low balled this place are definitely pretentious, obviously don't know the world of fine wine, and would be better served by shopping at Bev Mo, Total Wine, Trader Joes or World Market! read more
