We came here for our anniversary and we had an incredible experience! We were greeted by the hostess, who knew it was our anniversary as we checked in. They had menus with our names and gave us some to take with us as a present! We ordered the Brussel Caesar salad, the filet mignon, and the bison. Everything was amazing! The server was extremely friendly and brought us chocolate ice cream as a surprise dessert with a happy anniversary printed chocolate. Our server Marcus was amazing! He was very light hearted and made great conversation while giving perfect service. The food was great, although I wish the portions were a bit larger considering the price. The service is a bit slower paced for my personal preference. However, it allowed ample time for my group and I to chat, eat & drink. We were celebrating a bachelorette. The chef gave us some complimentary dishes and we got a complimentary bottle of champagne. They even printed a special menu for the bride and all the bridesmaids! The inside and outside are beautiful. Wish there was more around the building talking about the important history. I only wish there was a 6 star rating to give this restaurant. I cannot find the words to sufficiently describe how much we enjoyed all phases of our meal here. The service and ambiance were also superb and added to what was a spectacular night. We drove up to the Inn after dark for our reservation and were very impressed with the estate which was lit up for the evening. We will have to come back during the day to see what we missed, and perhaps take in a spa day. As for dinner, we had no room for dessert, but ordered it anyway because we did not want to miss anything in the dining experience. You won't want to either. Trust me. read more

Vintage is such a beautiful restaurant! We came here with a group of 8 girls and they really took care of us. Our server was amazing. The wines were delicious as was the food! We loved the mini cornbreads and dinner rolls. My sister and I both got the filet mignon as our entrees and asked for them to be cooked medium but they both were medium rate. Not a huge deal, it was still delicious. Two others got the bison ribeye and they asked for medium rare but they were medium well. Other than the cooks being a little off of the meat, everything tasted really good. They brought out two desserts for us to share at the end - the chocolate soufflé one was yummy, very salty/sweet. The other one was like a panacotta but it tasted gel-like and a little strange so we left that one alone. Definitely a great place and somewhere I'd like to go back to! read more

The family went to Easter brunch ($75/person, 3 courses). To start they served an turmeric custard appetizer, a teaspoon scope, was so bad I could not eat it. The Braised Lamb Cavatelli, was not a lamb dish but a bow of pasta with scarce lamb mixed in with over cooked pasta in a gooey like pesto sauce, it tasted bad. The description on the menu was not what you get served. The Lobster Benedict was rubbery and tasted fishy. The Béarnaise sauce lacked flavor tasting like flour and water. The Crispy Potatoes was good. The Petite Filet Mignon & Egg was good but the sautéed onions & peppers (they called something else) was too sour and "pickled" tasting (who likes that, barf), what a disappointment. The Bloody Butcher Grits was just more than a smear on the plate but tasted good. Strawberry Olive Oil Cake was edible but not bad. Chocolate & Raspberry Trifle was good. And the pastry served in in lieu of bread was good. But the very cheap white Easter bunny wrapped in cellophane with chocolate and jelly beans was so bad I was shocked a fine establishment like that would hand them out, and not a small fine chocolate instead. They were free, given to you as you left, but I had to ask for one. I unwrapped the foil off of one of the small chocolate bunnies which tasted like all sugar and was so bad I spit it out. The food was excellent. We had the grilled cheese and the burger for lunch. Both were delicious and the portions were huge. My only complaint was that everything took forever, drinks and entrees. There were only about 6 customers so they were not overwhelmed. The diners next to us complained to the server about how long the service was taking. Eighteen of our "brunch group" visited the Vintage restaurant for brunch on Sunday, July 23rd and experienced an absolutely phenomenal experience at this wonderful restaurant. First, scheduling a brunch for a group this large can be daunting and there are concerns as to whether the beverages food will be served to everyone in a timely manner and if the food will still be warm if it is supposed to be. No worries here! As the coordinator for the brunch, I worked closely planning with the amazing restaurant manager, Wednesday Sampson, who assured me that she and her staff would not only be able to accommodate our group but assured me that we would have a pleasant dining experience. Wow! did she and her staff ever deliver! The ambiance of the room was wonderful. Our long table was elegantly set. As soon as our group walked in, we immediately felt we were in for the pleasant dining experience promised. The food was delicious! There was not one complaint from any of us - and this is a VERY picky crowd of foodies. Those who ordered the spinach salad were blown away that a salad could be so good - some ordered it with chicken or Salmon. The Avocado Toast with poached eggs was a hit; as was The Smoked Salmon benedict. A real crowd pleaser was the French Toast Brick - it is a jaw dropping, decadently delicious dish! It was large enough that those who ordered it had enough to share, which was good because EVERYONE wanted to sample it! Everything was served warm and on time - kudos to the chef(s)! Of course, an important aspect of our pleasant experience has to be credited to the professional, impeccable, attentive service received from the incredibly phenomenal Vintage waitstaff led by Sierra. They worked together flawlessly and made each guest feel pampered and important. In addition to Sierra, other servers and Vintage staff who provided exemplary service included, Joe, Kya, Chloe, and Catherine. I've always loved the Inn at Willow Grove, but not so much Vintage. It was always just ok (and sometimes less so) - a few years ago, this would have been a solid 2.5 star review. I'm really glad to say that's changed with my last visit and their new Chef - now, Vintage finally has food that matches up to its surroundings and wine list. On this most recent visit last week, my husband and I had brunch and dinner there, and liked both so much that we also had breakfast on the last day before we left. Brunch: I had the turkey "hash" with poached eggs and hollandaise and my husband had the breakfast skillet with the smoked salmon. Both dishes were excellent, and I loved that my dish provided me an opportunity to order poached eggs with something other than ham or salmon - the turkey was moist and kept things light. I also really enjoyed the spices on the breakfast potatoes. They also offered 3-4 types of bread with honey butter and an amuse bouche, which was an unexpected but lovely touch. Dinner: I absolutely loved the food. As I mentioned before, I think Vintage has a lovely setting - really homey yet elegant - and the wine list has always been top-notch. My sweet potato ravioli were prepared perfectly, and I liked the touch of the grapes (note: this was a slightly sweet dish). My husband had the heirloom beet salad to start - he said the only thing he wasn't a fan of was the walnuts - he wished they hadn't been just raw and 'thrown on' there. For our mains, I had the duck and he had the chicken - the chicken was some of the most moist either of us had in a while - we were comparing it to the chicken at Clarity, which is one of the best and it is hard to top! My duck was prepared beautifully and I loved the side of spaetzle, which I thought was very unique. For dessert, we had the date pudding, which went well with a sparkling wine we had in our room (and they kindly brought our dessert to our room). Another amuse bouche and a selection of breads, as well. Service: while I didn't always love the food on my previous visits, I've always had excellent service at Vintage. That hasn't changed. The servers will often work in pairs for dinner and they have always been attentive. Timing: this isn't a quick meal, even though it's not a tasting menu or anything. Sometimes there is a wait between courses, but the restaurant is so lovely, I just try to enjoy my surroundings...and my wine and the bread! Overall: we were blown away by how much the food at Vintage has improved, and I can honestly say I'm already looking forward to my next visit - and I'd be really happy to trek out to Orange on a random night just to eat at Vintage again! read more

I have to preface this review by saying that I'm not typically compelled to write reviews and I'm pretty hard to please when it comes to dining experiences but just had dinner at Vintage this evening while staying at the Inn and it was a perfect experience. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. I had the seared sea bass served with asparagus and pakora (Indian fritters - a 1st!) and the banana toffee cake. Not a single flaw. The dinner was fantastic - service was attentive, wine list was interesting, cocktails were well made, and the food was fantastic. I had the octopus followed by the filet, while my wife had the salad followed by the roasted chicken. The octopus (cast iron skillet) was delicious - tender and flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Her chicken was one of the better "restaurant" chickens we've had - well spiced and perfectly prepared. Had breakfast this morning, and can easily say it was one of, if not the, best breakfasts I can remember having anywhere. The fact that we could walk back and forth from our room was a serious plus, but I would stop by Vintage for any meal when I happened to be near Orange, or even make a pilgrimage from Charlottesville - it would be worth the nearly 1 hour drive. read more

Was skeptical given the negative reviews on Yelp. Great reviews everywhere else. I'm sad we only ate one meal here. Everything was amazing from the cocktails to the service to the ambiance. We requested a patio seat and sat in a quiet area with one other table. We didn't share a main course just most of the apps. Great cheese and meat plate, watermelon tartar was refreshing and unique, pork sliders were awesome and filling. The passion fruit is a must get for dessert but it was all great. "Dorthy, you're not in Kansas anymore." Don't worry, this restaurant is what makes Orange, Virginia a special destination. I had no idea what to expect but the ambiance reminded me of a high end New York City restaurant. From the minute we walked in the door, there's there was such a good vibe to the place. Its the small details they've perfected that makes the difference to the entire experience. Attentive - The manager and the servers were very attentive to everything from the type of water to the timing of everything from ordering and when the food is delivered. Touch of history - Love how they restored this old building and infused some modern flare Flavorful - Special touch to mix the perfect blend foods. Spirits - Hats off to the mixologist. We ordered from the specialty drinks since it was a special occasion and was very impressed. Price - Amazing price for what you get. You'd be paying more if this was located in a big city. There are plenty of tourist attractions and wineries you can visit around Orange, Virginia. This needs to be on your list too especially when they complete their expanded Spa. read more

Fantastic experience all around. Came here for my dinner for my girlfriends birthday and they went all out. Personalized menu wishing her a happy birthday, a hand written Happy Birthday note in chocolate icing on the dessert plate etc. The food was outstanding as well. They had several varieties of complimentary house made breads and brought out small plates of a new dish the chef was working on for us to try out. Entree wise I had the short ribs and my girlfriend had the mussels. Both were exceptional, the short ribs were melt in your mouth tender and the mussels were some of the best I've had in the northeast. Discovered Vintage a few years ago while taking the backroads to Charlottesville and recently returned for a second visit. We had lunch both times, which were on uncrowded weekdays. The atmosphere is upscale yet not uninviting. The staff is friendly. The presentation and taste of the food exceeded our expectations. On our last visit, we dined on the patio near a fountain. We enjoyed the fried calamari, bib salad, crab cake and a strawberry dessert. So much good food required a walk on their grounds. Vintage is located in a former plantation, which has been renovated to also include lodging and a spa. They are currently expanding -- adding more guest rooms, a destination spa and fitness center with a pool. Whether celebrating a special occasion or just passing by, I definitely recommend a visit. read more

I have loved this restaurant for years and before the pandemic I often had lunch with friends there. One of my friends gave me a gift certificate which we have been unable to use due to the pandemic. Unfortunately my gift certificate expires today and although I have sent 3 emails and had one very disappointing conversation on the phone they have yet to allow an extension. To top it off, their website indicates that lunch is open for Inn guests only and when I pointed it out two weeks ago, I was told that dinner is for Inn guests only and that the website was wrong. As of today, the website is still "wrong" Sadly, this was a location that I thought to be perfect for my daughters wedding. The lack of empathy for a hospitality provider is unfortunate. Will take my business elsewhere. read more

The restaurant itself is beautiful. We had reservations for 4 to celebrate a birthday. The menu is limited and in my experience that means the food will be exceptionally good. We order the peach shrimp appetizer, nothing special. The dynamic duo salad, my friend looked as though he was going thru the motions. I asked if he liked it and he replied, "Interesting but I would not eat it again". Even the rolls were bland. They go to the trouble to present these separate plates, prepared with butter and knife for rolls that are blah. Everyone basically took one bite and left the rest on the plate. The presentation was nice but again, the food falls very flat. Chicken fried ahi tuna seemed like it would be delicious but it was bland. Failed attempt at fusion. Char crusted filet of beef was very good but the sides that came with it were awful. Both of us left the sides basically untouched and the waitress never bothered to ask why. Asparagus and lemon fettuccine was awful. The birthday girl thought this would be a dish with delicious sauce and it ended up dry and horribly disappointing. She left 80% of it untouched. Again, the waitress could care less. The attempt to be a fine dining experience is there, the ambiance and table settings really set the impression. It doesn't go any farther than that. The food is below average and money was wasted on this meal. Very disappointing. Don't be mislead into thinking your going to have an amazing meal. Take your money somewhere else, this place simply doesn't have it. read more

Took my husband on a weekend country get away to Orange last weekend and had dinner here. It was one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. We had the peppercorn/BBQ bacon wrapped shrimp for an appetizer, a bottle of local red wine and we both had the seafood trio. The scallop was hands down the most tender one I've ever had. It was a little too sweet for me but still amazing. The crab cake with the mustard sauce was off the charts as well. However, I didn't care much for the cold shrimp or the fried potatoes on the plate. Luckily though the BBQ bacon shrimp appetizer made up for it! Service was great, atmosphere was great. We decided to give the restaurant at The Inn at Willow Grove (Vintage) a second chance, as our first visit was less than positive (food and service), but the spa was wonderful. We had made a reservation in advance, but upon arrival, we were told no tables were available despite the fact that we could see about a third of the restaurant empty. We had to wait 45 minutes before finally being sat in the banquet section and not the regular restaurant. During this time several people who were obviously known by the manager arrived and were sat in the regular restaurant. We felt that management does not care about out of town visitors due to the way they dismissed our concerns, and the restaurant staff seemed very unhappy generally based on our observations of them while we waited at the bar. Unfortunately for us, the second time was not the charm for us at Vintage, and we won't be back. We really don't think the management cares if we don't return, however. Although our second visit to the spa was again excellent, the restaurant experience was very poor. Save your time and money, and find another weekend destination unless you are only interested in the spa. Next time we will keep driving from Richmond until we reach The Homestead. read more

I cannot convey how much we love this restaurant with mere words. The cocktails are inventive and delicious. Even the mocktails are fabulous. We have eaten here twice, and it is a family favorite already. Their dishes are so inventive and the flavors work wonders in your mouth. The entire Inn at Willow Grove is charming. Even if you don't stay there, I highly recommend having a meal at the Pub or in the restaurant. Although they do not have a Kid's Menu, they have delicious burgers and gourmet Mac and Cheese that my picky eaters loved. Here is a hint-if you have kids, eat in the Pub area. You can order off of the Pub/lunch menu as well as the Vintage Dinner menu after 5. We did this both times so my sons could enjoy meals of their choice while the adults had a much wider variety of options between the two menus. We will certainly return soon and often! read more

Disproportionate. The cost of the meal was disproportionate to the service. If you are going to be a fine dining destination with fine dining prices, then please rethink your service. First the chairs are horrible. Squarish upholstered clunky chairs that made horrible noises as one tried to be seated at the table. And...one sank too low in them from the table--the chairs need to be elevated. The glass topped table with scratches all over was not attractive. Either replace them or use linen tablecloths. Plates. Clunky, like the chairs. Round would work better than the squarish shapes. Bread service. Rather than being served bread on a plate right in front of me or to the side of the main plate, it was served far in front of me, entailing an awkward reach over the main plate. I moved the plate to be closer to me, then the server came and moved it back rather than asking if I was done first --it felt like service in a diner--very abrupt. The cutlery--the artsy nouveau style knife should be eliminated--it's designed so that no matter how you put it on your plate after eating, the sharp end sticks up--hazard. And just set out all cutlery needed for the meal from the very beginning rather than having to replace them throughout--the flow of the service would be improved. Last, three people waited on us--including the maitre d' . Three different people conversing with us throughout the service. Suggestion. The maitre d' should just seat us--then say goodbye on our way out. There should be one main server who takes our orders and interacts with us throughout...then additional waitstaff who should quietly take our plates away or assist the main server in bringing out dishes. Also, we were kept waiting too long to order our next courses. I'm used to relaxed dining having just returned from Europe, but....waiting inordinately too long to order while we watch the waitstaff take photos of a party outside by the fire pits --what is the priority here? Suggestion....nix the background music (some of it sounded like 70s elevator music and at one point I thought Austin Powers was going to appear). Either no music or light low key classical. The food. Sometimes simple is best. The appetizers were too complex. Too many ingredients and the plating was not attractive--too busy and not appealing re: colors, layout etc. very muddled looking instead of vibrant. The taste-ordinary/ muddled. Not distinct. The chef did excel with the lamb amuse-bouche/intermezzo. That was wonderful! The buratta was excellent as well-simple, fresh, excellent presentation. I had the Duck entree. The duck was nicely done and flavorful. The Okinawan Sweet Potato was good but I would have preferred it was a warm rather than cold dish. The greens--too much dressing--the greens were limp--my suggestion--serve butter lettuce leaves instead with just a light touch of dressing...or no dressing at all. Dessert. Too complex. Too many ingredients involved. Too wordy of a dessert menu to read. Too many offerings. Simplify! I had the rhubarb/coconut/kumquat/etc/etc/etc dessert. Nope. Being served a rolled mound of coconut on top of an indiscernible flavored cheesecake with a sorbet that looked like rhubarb but had no distinct flavor....nope. If you are going to have a rhubarb dessert then showcase the flavor of rhubarb rather than muddling it up with unrelated flavors--fusion did not work here. There's a reason why Rhubarb is paired with say, custard --rhubarb is strong and needs a more bland yet sweet combo--not other flavors that compete with it like coconut etc... Finally....the espresso. Please don't just pour dark coffee in an espresso cup and say voila! Espresso! Espresso has a layer of natural coffee crema on top. My inexpensive coffee maker at home can make a European standard espresso... This establishment has a lot of potential. The location is bucolic. The demeanor of our servers--pleasant. The individual menu items as well as the service need streamlining. Getting the basics of fine dining down is key. read more

Is This Love? I think so! What can one say when you have a chef like Jason? He is not just any chef. He takes the time to come out and ask, "do you like this?" He loves being challenged. "Oh I'm vegetarian." He smiles and humbly walks back to the kitchen. I've at times told him, "surprise me." His food is magic. He was the chef at Vintage a few years ago, now he's back. This is home for sure and he makes his guests feel that way. The service is wonderful and I always have the nicest servers. Wednesday, the manager, is a sweetheart. She's always in the background making sure her guests are happy. Back to the food. Every bite has to be savored here. I'm a fast eater, but when it comes to Jason's food, one must sit back and really let the flavors be absorbed as slow as possible. My wife is never disappointed. Possibly the best food I've ever eaten at a restaurant. And I dine out pretty often. We stopped in on a Wednesday night and they were serving dishes tapas-style, so we had a chance to try the fried green tomatoes, grilled tuna, spinach salad, and cornmeal-crusted chicken. Everything was fresh, prepared to perfection, and with flavors and textures that made me think "now THIS is what food should be like." The fried green tomatoes and the apple tart are both must-eats. The setting is rural, romantic and polished without being too stuffy, and the scenery around it is worth the trip by itself. Perfect for a getaway weekend or a special date. read more
