Very nostalgic! An old school soda fountain with ice cream and coffee, plus they serve lunch! And if that wasn't enough, you can buy boutique items specific to Albany - adorable! Staff is knowledgeable and friendly; this place appeals to locals and visitors alike! DIDN'T SEE THIS COMING! Traveling for work via RV and made a stop for my wife to antique shop. Walked into the drug store ice cream place and my wife decided to try their chicken/ ritz crackery with potatoes meal... whatever it's actually called I don't know but I had a bite and it was amazing. Someone's old family recipe, and only 10bucks. Definitely recommend it. read more

My wife and I were in the Albany area to attend the Fandangle. We camped at the Fort Griffin Historical Site Campgrounds in our RV. We went in to town on Friday morning to get lunch and tour the town. I had seen Vintage Vanilla on the internet and wanted to give it a try. We were not disappointed. When we arrived, there was only one other dining party. They had one of those humongous Great Danes sitting on the floor next to their table. It was the size of a horse. I have never been to a restaurant that let dogs come in. I thought it was pretty cool. The dining room is in an old-fashioned drug store. One wall has all kinds of sauces, pickles, and jellies on display that you can sample with pretzel sticks. I tried a few of them after lunch... just because. The lunch special was lasagna. I love lasagna, but it was super hot in downtown Albany, and I wanted a lighter lunch. I ordered a ham salad sandwich on ciabatta bread. It came with veggie chips, some pickle slices, and some grape tomatoes. I ate a pickle slice and knew right away that it was from the Fickle Pickle in Fredricksburg. Sure enough, they had them on that display wall. The ham salad was probably some of the best I have ever had. They chopped the onions and such so small, that it was almost a ham spread. The flavor of the ham was intense. I loved it. Rachel had a ham and cheese sandwich. She really enjoyed it. It looked really good, and came fairly loaded. Rachel told them to hold the tomatoes, but I would have liked to have tasted it with them. If her ham was the same as what was in my ham salad, it had to be good. We didn't have any desserts, although I was tempted to have an old-fashioned milk shake. Like I said, it was just too hot to get too stuffed. By the time we left, all the tables were full. One large table was obviously a group of guys who work together some where. Most tables looked like locals, as there was a lot of going over to another table for hugs, etc. But, I never got that creepy "what are you doing in our town" feeling that you sometimes get in a small town like Albany. In fact, I never got that feeling there. Albany is a very nice and welcoming town. A couple next to us ordered the small lasagna plate. I saw it as it passed by our table. It was a huge pile of lasagna that looked amazing and smelled heavenly. All the guys at that aforementioned table got the large lasagna plate. It was absolutely loaded with a mountain of lasagna. I highly recommend a visit to the Vintage Vanilla if you are in the area of Albany. Do yourself a favor and go there just to experience the town. It is worth your travel and time. read more

Came here for lunch. Horrible. Got the chicken salad sandwich and it came on this little stale croissant and served with veggie straws. The menu said chips. I give veggie straws to my kids.....a horrible choice as a side. Chicken salad was so so, not great. Skip this place for lunch. read more

One must contemplate the advantages of taking the road less traveled and stop in Albany, TX on your trip down I20. Give Hwy180 a chance and find a little gem like Vintage Vanilla along the way. It's always worth the stop to see local folks and local food. Now I'd have to admit that this local food establishment's food is above the local diner fare. It's more like Mom back in the back making it for you. It's really that good. The interior transports you back to the 40's with the drug store in the back (still in operation) and the gift shop next door. I had the chicken and dumplings special with a salad. Spot on for chicken and dumplings. The salad was a nice side dish. Moved on to a slice of Pecan pie (yes, my wife would be disappointed...) with Southern Pecan Praline Jubilee sauce. Good God that pie almost made me pack up and move to Albany...I'll be back for sure. If you plan a trip out west on I20, take a detour and stop in. read more

What a great place. Once a drugstore, complete with old fashioned soda fountain, its now a gift shop with old fashioned soda fountain. They have a food and dessert menu that will not disappoint you. If you pass thru Albany, be sure and stop. Its a trip back in time! read more
