I brought my 5 year old daughter here for her birthday and we got matching mani/pedis! It was an amazing experience right off the bat when the owner offered me a cocktail and her a mock tail. It was arguably one of the best cocktails I've ever had (at a nail salon, what??) It was my daughter's first time getting her nails done and she was living it UP. They gave her a cute little swag bag for her birthday and she still uses everything in it. And the durability of the nail polish is crazy... I did not get the hair style i asked for and she thinned out my hair without asking me bc it was "to thick" .My hair before the cut was thick and wavy, I asked for a short hair cut with layers but instead i got the Billy Hargrove cut . I booked an appointment because I found a nail place that had a time and date that worked with my schedule this week. I was super stoked to try out VINYL because of all the great reviews plus free drink with pedicures. The place was super cool and right near the train. The two-car train is considered a mode of transportation in Austin. LOL Anyway, the salon is aesthetically appealing to the eye and fun to look at while inside. Check-in is required at the door thanks to old 'Rona. I had to sign a COVID release and temperature checks. I miss the old days. Once inside I was able to pick out my color of polish and led to the pedicure area. It was an oversize chair and not a massage chair. Overall the experience was nice and polish turned out great. I was a little disappointed that I had to take my drink to go instead of enjoying it while getting my pedicure done. read more

The BEST place in Austin to get your nails and hair done. I've been a regular of Ali's for about a year now and getting my nails done is always the best part of my week. Ali and Kate both do amazing work and it's like I'm just hanging with friends each appointment. My nails are the best they've ever been because of the gel builder that Ali uses. Vinyl was the first salon I went back to after getting vaccinated. The salon owners and staff had policies in place that made me feel safe and comfortable in the salon. I've been going for about a year now and absolutely love the staff and amazing work they do! Kate always does an incredible job on my nails. She is warm and personable and cares about my nail goals and recommends treatments or applications that have improved the health and look of my nails. Kylie worked with me to understand the look and change I wanted in my hair color and grays that stylist at other salons ignored or wouldn't do. My sister persuaded me to come here during my visit to Austin. She's much cooler than me, and although I initially balked at the $50 price tag for a pedicure, she assured me that this was a whole "experience." So we went. We opted for the seasonal special: the Caramel Apple Bourbon Pedicure. Starting with the good: the service was A+, the staff person was super sweet and kept refilling my water as soon as it was empty which is more than I can say about the wait staff at some restaurants. My nail tech felt knowledgable and it was very nice seeing him use freshly sterilized instruments for my service. the playlist was about stellar and the overall vibe of the place was cool. I enjoyed seeing copper bowls for pedicures which are naturally antimicrobial and not having to worry if the jetted tub was properly cleaned between visitors. The actual pedicure chair was wide which is a real blessing for me as a very fat person who does not comfortably fit in standard arm chairs. My nail tech was also able to push back his next client after I needed to start my appointment 30 minutes late. truly very good customer service. And now the not so good: starting with the biggest thing, the price. $150 (including $10 tip) for a pedicure and manicure and only getting gel on my fingers is a bit much. not saying that it's unreasonable but it hurt to pay. The space is also smaller than I expected and it felt weird having a record store, bar and hair salon within spitting distance of where I was getting my nails done. Because it was so close I could very clearly hear the stylists conversation who was cutting hair which just felt so weird because I find that's not the norm in nail salons. Additionally, as a person who is almost six feet tall it was a little uncomfortable getting my pedicure in the chairs since I couldn't scoot the seat bag to more comfortably angle my feet when they were being scrubbed and painted. Overall I won't be going back because the cost is too high for me to justify right now but if a more social atmosphere is your idea of a good time and you've got the money to spend it's totally worth it. What fun! Yes, I said fun. Sometimes getting a mani and/or pedi can feel like a chore, albeit a self-care one, but a chore nonetheless. Not at VINYL. They make it a party. From easy communication via the Yelp message feature to walking in and being greeted with a drink list, you can instantly tell that VINYL was crafted with the customer in mind. You're choosing to spend a chunk out of your day with them, so they're going to make it worth your while. The mani/pedi isn't cheap, but there's alcoholic beverages that accompany it and stimulating conversation. The extra details (like the oils and elixirs they use during the services) are what sets VINYL apart from other nail salons. Was there celebrating a friend's bday, and these ladies were so awesome, they put together a little bday bag complete with birthday tiaras for said friend. The pedicure was definitely the highlight, as my color still looks fresh after a week and some change, and I would go back again and again for that pampering partaaaay. (Manis are great, but unless you're getting gel or have the budget/time to go once a week, they feel like a waste of money, as mine never last longer than a couple days.) read more

I came in for a haircut the other day. The experience was good and the people were fine. The day after getting the haircut, I noticed that I had a clump of hair sticking out that had been missed. I went back in to point this out and get a quick snip of the protruding hair. The same stylist that cut my hair was there and I pointed this out to her. I thought that It would be a quick repair and I'd be on my way. She just sort of dismissed it; saying that I wasn't "putting my hair down" or something like that. I definitely have a clump of hair sticking off of my head and I have a wedding to attend this week. The haircut was more on the expensive end and I tipped 30%. I'll have to get someone to clip this hair off before the wedding. I'll be taking my business somewhere else. read more

Absolutely Delighted! I received a consultation, haircut, and highlights from Liz. I couldn't be more pleased! I came in with some reference photos for what I wanted and consulted with my hair dresser regarding highlights. Context: I have thin hair and don't want to damage the hair I hold dear. Genetics will not be kind towards the longevity of a full head of hair. Experience: Liz made sure to discuss options and make sure the appropriate dyes/processes were used. I had a pleasant conversation, received a few complimentary drinks, and left feeling more attractive than I've felt in all of quarantine. Cost: I don't typically get highlights so my typical male haircut is cheap at around 50$. This was definitely the most expensive hair cut to date I have had at about 175$ before gratuity. But, I have no regrets nor complaints it's a fair price for the experience and It was well worth the price to look as I do know. A worth while investment in me and money well spent. I absolutely LOVE Vinyl Beauty Bar, and I'm so happy to count this awesome place amongst the businesses in my neighborhood. The themed mani-pedis (Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Selena, Janis Joplin, and Beyoncé) are adorable designed and each come with their own speciality scent and cocktail. The cocktails are super yummy with strong pours, and there's also wine and beer if that's more your speed. The staff is super friendly and talented. I do not live in Austin, but every time I visit, I always schedule a manicure with Vinyl. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. This salon got me into gel manicures because of the excellent job they did cleaning up my hands and really taking the time to apply the manicure properly. I recently had Merry work her magic on my nails and with everything going on right now, I love looking at my hands and having some semblance of peace that at least my hands look 100. Vinyl is one of the only places I have ventured out to that is really taking the COVID precautions seriously. Your temperature is checked and your hands are sanitized before even you enter the salon, all staff members have PPE and are COVID certified, and follow healthy social distancing like a religion. If you are understandably concerned about venturing in public right now, they will take care of you. Also they have a salon dog. I'm not kidding, she's there every time I go and I love seeing her.
