Such a dope name: Vinylsaurs Records. I walked into the La Puente, CA, record shop on 6/18/22. Immediately the owner came over to let me know about their blowout sale. Rock and hip hop seem to predominate the space in this small shop. They also sell CDs and tapes. Follow them on Instagram @vinylsaurs. A great record store. I would rate it mint to near mint. Gilbert does a good job of including many quality records. I found disco, funk, and soul treasures in Vinylsaurs. I have to echo what other reviewers have said before: Gilbert is an amicable and informed record store owner. He shared his wealth of knowledge, cracked several funny one-liners, and even played Rock the Casbah. Thank you Vinylsaurs for all the quality jams and jokes. Update: This store is now my out and out favorite record store. The owner just installed a retro DJ system in the back. It was originally intended for roller rinks or large spaces. Sounds just like the system that would be used at a roller disco. Test out a favorite jam or look around while Gilbert tests another record collection. I heard another customer play Billy Stewart on the Vinylsaurs system, and the sonic funkiness echoed through the room. Vinylsaurs is now making a stronger push to sell tees, patches, pins and band merchandise. Gilbert is an expert at finding collector's items. I highly suggest contacting Gilbert to see if he does not have hard to find classic rock or classic rock fan gear. I recently saw a few rare Smiths records here. There really is not another store quite like this one. Honestly, this place may just be a record joint that rides on the cool unique name of it's shop. The shop contains many used, rough covered records very unorganized. Absolutely no plastic sleeves on anything and they happen to come up with the common number of 5,10 or 15 on just about everything without actual appraisal data. read more

Found two rare Dead or alive lps Sunday in the $5 bin (grew up listening to"You spin me round" on the radio" and never forgot Pete's voice!).The feeling was surreal when I discovered the rare vinyls! I really adore these tracks so I was in awe. An employee tried them out on the turn table for me and I was satisfied! Great finds here! My current and favorite hidden gem nestled in La Puente. Prepare yourself for some real digging and coming up on some great finds, a good laugh and how crate diggin in a record shop should be, FUN! My last few visits there, Gilbert has always been helpful, knowledgeable and hilarious!! And he'll keep his doors & crates open after closing if you're still digging. No rush to be kicked out. This place is pretty dope. I mean when you walk in you go further back and you find yourself in a vinyl room. If you really want to crate dig, this is the spot. I've gone, went through the records, and my finger tips get dirty due to the dust. That being said, that ain't a bad thing, that's what crate digging is all about. Great prices as well! Over priced and inaccurate. be careful what you buy here and what you pay for it. Sold a "first pressing" of a Pink Floyd record when it was not. They also charged a good $20-$25 more for it than what you'll find it for online in better condition. Also sold me a two record album with one of the records missing. I didn't notice it until a good few months after I bought the album so I never bothered going back to try and fix it but I will never go to this place again. Plenty of better record shops around with better records and better prices. read more

Let me start by saying the best thing about this shop is the owner Gilbert. He's knowledgeable , friendly , funny and generous. I will admit that I was A LITTLE BIT annoyed that $5 is the lowest price on anything outside of a stack of 45's. Annoyed because there are a lot of records that maybe aren't worth $5 in the shop! On the flip side of this is the simple fact that just as many of these $5 records are worth MORE than $5 SoOoOo I dunno...I guess it's cool! I like digging and I did spend a solid four hours going through nearly everything in the store. Gilbert even let me and a friend stay past closing hours! We talked Doo Wop, Oldies and Gilbert even introduced me to the word "Snow." Snow in record collector speak is when old dusty records are played and sound all hissy and fuzzy and kinda like the song is caught in a snow storm. Makes sense! The owner, Gilbert, is a terrific guy. He seems to be very passionate about music and is very knowledgeable. Even, if you don't have the cash to spend, I suggest just dropping by for some fun conversation. Who knows, you might even learn a thing or two. Great place for vintage vinyl, CDs and band tees. Sure, the vinyl is a little worn, but that just comes with age. Plus, he usually gives crazy discounts! He always works with your budget. Also, he has a good selection of rare first press vinyls. The owners are really nice. Huge selection of 80's New Wave. HOWEVER... If you're a serious collector be forewarned that the condition of the covers on 99% of the records is crap. Only a few have plastic sleeves so whatever condition they come into the store in (and I can guarantee most are already fairly beaten up), they will only continue to deteriorate. The owners don't seem to take this into consideration when pricing the items - most are consistently on the high side, especially given the condition of the covers. Also, the Old Skool section is packed so tightly in the bins you LITERALLY cannot flip through them. If you're looking for something older and don't care about the condition of the packaging, there's a good chance you'll find it here. If you're a collector, your money will go further elsewhere. read more

This review is only focused on the record shop section. The record shop is overpriced with an emphasis on quantity over quality. It offers records in G+ condition at spiked prices. Just because it is a Beatles album does not necessarily mean its worth $40, especially if it is an American repress, anyone with a Discogs account can run the serial on it and find its true worth. The guy at the register was a decent dude, but the pricing on the items, and their condition is unacceptable. read more

I just found this place, and boy what a find! I went for a quick stop and ended up getting "lost in boxes" and apparently time goes by faster in this shop, because before I knew it, it was past the time I told my wife I'd be home by. The selection is great, they had many records I've been searching for. My only knock would be that the prices are slightly higher than what one may find online, but being a brick-and-mortar store, they do have overhead to consider and Gilbert has been willing to make it worth it. I actually have not walked into the store personally but I met the owner Gilbert at a booth he owns at Frank & Sons. I never intended on purchasing a record, but listening to pink floyd and zeppelin on record at his booth did the trick for me. There was just something about the sound. He was very knowledgeable and has a lot of insight on music. He was very kind and gave me a great offer since it was my first record purchased. Ended up buying 3! Having worked at Rhino Records and Feedback Records I know what to look for in vinyl. Yes, many of the albums in stock could be considered overpriced due to the quality of A. The vinyl themselves and B. The Album covers/sleeves but if you ask nicely and aren't too snobby, the owner will gladly work with you on prices and even clean and provide new sleeves or plastic for your purchases. When cleaned, every album I have ever purchased here has played great. I don't resell my vinyl on eBay or Amazon and these opinions are my own so enjoy the music and stop by for some decent tunes and a conversation or two. read more

I think this place is awesome! Living in Old Town La Puente you would expect more vintage shops & vinyl stores but there's only a few. Main Street has many business's that come & go but this Is one of the few that have stayed & continued with their business. I was always ify about entering the store because it always seemed closed but when I finally decided to check it out it turned out to be really cool. I love rock music & band to shirts and it's always hard to find band t shirts that are fitted for small petite girls so I was very satisfied with the fact I finally found a fitted smiths t shirt! I'm currently just waiting on getting more money to go back & look for my strokes nirvana & sublime shirts! Can't wait. The man who attended me was very nice & cool & the way he helps you & let's you know of you need anything was very nice. DEFF coming back & buying all my band shirts here! read more
