Lovell's is an OG business in the heart of Uptown Whittier for all music lovers! To get here, street parking will be your best bet and there is a good amount of it throughout the area. Inside, they have a pretty spacious setup with a good selection of new and used vinyls, CDs, and DVDs. Their items are organized well and all of the staff here are friendly and helpful. The items here are also priced pretty fairly. I browsed around for about an hour and ended up picking up a few records for some friends that they had been searching for. I would definitely recommend doing some crate digging here if you are ever in the area! read more

We came into Lovell's while Christmas shopping in Uptown Whittier. Lovell's has a vast selection of records, tapes, CDs, and memorabilia of various music genres. The store is like a museum displaying poster and pictures of famous musicians and album colors on their walls, so cool! The staff were welcoming, attentive, friendly and had great music knowledge. Came here on 3.13 for the Deeper Well listening session & had such a great experience here & will be coming back to get all our future records - The service was phenomenal & the guys in the front were so kind & funny, just overall positive vibes. My husband, daughter & I felt welcomed & my daughter had a great time with other customers & kids. I was not sure at first if the store would be "kid friendly" but there was plenty of space & everyone was welcoming. There was a great selection & my husband wants to come back to browse more. This is the first time in 30 years I believe that they have hosted an event like that & it was so nice to go to a local record store not only to support artists but also support small local businesses. This place is always my husband's and my go to place when we want to purchase vinyl. They have obscure items there that you can find anywhere else. And they are not overly expensive either. LA Times best record stores list! Hip, hip, & hip. Over 1000 independent owned record stores in the US and this is one of them. As 90s kid, the rewinding a tape with a pen is my blue print in my memories. This is like heaven for me and all selection comes from Metallica to Woody Guthrie. There could be authentic vintage movie posters and seems to be very curated store. This is worth throwing Benjamin for this kind of stuff. Records can sometimes play very well even though vinyl look abit rough. The average price paid is here around 35- 40 buck. Let's do it! read more

I've noticed most of the reviews here are mostly old, so here's an updated one from July 2025. I've been going there since the 90s.... That place is an essential Uptown Whittier business that has been there for well over a million years at least. That's the OG music spot for that area. I have always had a good experience with the employees that work there, easy to interact with. They sell lots of everything but mostly sell new Vinyl/CDs. Used vinyl/CDs are also there, and are a blast to dig through if you have time and patience. Lovell's is usually my go to spot for new releases on Fridays as they're the only store closest to me that sells them. It's also nice to see a store lean on nostalgia & be a time capsule for the city while also catering to the youth that frequents the area from the college & high school. I've noticed most of the reviews here are pretty old, so here's an updated one from June 2025. This place looks cool -- great nostalgic vibe if you're into the Uptown Whittier scene. The retro aesthetic definitely keeps it alive. However, the customer service is absolutely awful. If you're new to collecting vinyl or just starting to explore it as a hobby, do not come here. You won't be welcomed. Lovell's takes advantage of newcomers by severely upcharging records you could easily find at Target or online for half the price. It's disappointing to see a shop lean on nostalgia just to gatekeep a music community that should be open and inclusive. Like in many niche communities, you sometimes run into people who confuse elitism with passion -- and unfortunately, that's what you'll find here. The staff comes off cold, condescending, and outright rude if you're not already "in the club." That said, if you're just looking to dig through crates for old singles, it's still worth a stop -- or better yet, check out Moonshine Records just up the street. They're much more welcoming. If you're under 30 and enjoy music from the last decade, skip the judgment and spend your money somewhere you'll actually be respected. read more

My son and I stopped in to check out their vinyl collection. They have a ton of new stuff and all the older classic LP's are towards the back. The employees are pretty chill, they don't really offer to help you find anything, which is fine with me because I like to wander around and just see what they have. The prices are moderate. This was my first time coming to this record store and I went because they had a listening party and it was great and all. A little disorganized but they still pushed through with the lines and handing out posters. So, I went up to the cashier register and I told the guy if I could get it shipped to my house since it's a bit of drive from where I came from. So they call me telling me it's ready for pick up . The guy spoke to me really condescending and telling me "really ? You can't just come pick up the item?" Like really!?? Well duh I can't because I'm far away. He then grunts and tells me to call on Monday to ask for Ruben. Moments later they call me back telling me very ashamedly tone that they will ship it out for me and they found my home address. I don't understand why he spoke to me that way when I was responding nicely and patient with him. I will not be coming back to this record store. Spare yourself y'all from rude employees read more

I have to say this was one of the funniest Tuesday nights I've had in a very long time came for an Apex Twin Listening party and it was super fun ! The guys put up a screen and showed old school visuals with the new 4 album collection and it was vinyl nerd paradise! It was so fun talking music with so many heads eclectic selection but the best thing was if you're looking to stock up on vinyl there's the frequent buyer club but there's good band art and flyers at Lovell's say hello to Rueben or Tom and the other cool dude who's name I always forget ! Intense vinyl collection to pick through and if they don't carry it they'll get it for you these guys always find a way you might have to wait a few days but what you want will be there for a reasonable price and in great shape ! I have been coming here for about 10yrs, maybe a little more. It's probably my favorite record shop to be honest. I use to collect dvds back in the day and they also have a great selection, but as far as vinyls go... there's a ton here! Old stuff, new stuff, and even some posters. Yeah, a lot of the stuff in the back is junk. Most are in bad shape and doubt they're playable, but vinyl hunting is about the experience. I love the smell of that old garbage. Don't get me wrong, the stuff closer to the entrance is where you wanna be. New releases, classics, and all of the stuff I HAVE purchased has been in excellent condition. Staff is cool, they usually say "Hi" when you walk in, very standard and in my opinion, this place is one of the last great record stores. read more

The shop: Lovell's has an array of records that you may be on the hunt for and also have some thing you may have never imagined of finding. Lots of classic new and used records, as well as a lot of the latest drops. They're always my first stop for Record Store Day. Customer Service: The people running and working at the shop are always a very relaxed joy to be among. They're all super chill and get people moving in and out pretty quickly. I've never had an issue when asking about a particular record and they don't mind looking up the status of backorders or anything. They're also great about posting when they have new shipment in on their instagram. Parking: Parking can be a little tricky if Greenleaf is full, but there is a parking structure directly across the street that is usually only half full. read more

Had a terrible experience with Brian up in the front like no other place I've been to. His ignorance on pricing vinyl is astounding and I'd imagine, costs this shop a ton. All he knows is how to scan a barcode on the back of your vinyl and prices it based on that without researching variants or alternate covers.Opened my mint vinyl without asking and acts like a smart alec once you confront him about it. Would not recommend selling you vinyl here or wasting your time on the rude customer service because this idiot will open your sealed vinyls without asking. He'll offer you $25 on a $200 vinyl because he lacks the mental aptitude to do the smallest bit of research. Tom, the owner should be embarrassed that this fool runs his shop. read more

I have been selling records here lately - they always treat me well. Yesterday I bought a jazz record that sounded terrible on my system. I went to return it and it didn't sound as bad on their system. I talked with them extensively as best as I could about what could have been causing the issue and after some back and forth, we worked out a compromise and I walked away with a different jazz record that sounds fantastic at home. All that to say, a really odd situation arose and they still took care of me. Big fan. Just wish it was closer. I live in Brea. read more

A kooky record store trying to find itself. Lovell's can't decide whether to be a store that just sells hot re-issue LPS or a store that only sells used LPs. That's OK though. Their trove of 12" singles redeems the entire storefront, or at least it did the day I walked in. Approx. 6 bins brimming with glistening black wax sit in the back of Lovell's. I carefully dug through each bin. One record at a time, which is the only way to do so really. I lucked out. In my hands, I held a copy of Magnifique by Magnifique. A kitschy and somewhat dark disco groove. I might have found a Young and Co. record in VG condition too. Each vinyl cost $1. Although the vinyl is obv. the main selling point, the staff at Lovell's is amicable. The mgmt. has made a real effort to make the store look amusing too. Album art and quirky cut outs grace every inch of wall space in Lovell's. (One of the more memorable cut outs depicts Justin Timberlake being stalked by an obsessed fan.) Someone on their staff has a healthy sense of humor. I would go back to Lovell's just to check the singles bins and have a tiny chuckle at the zany decor. I grew up in Whittier and Lovell's has always been a part of my journey. I purchased 12in singles when I spun at parties in the late 80's. I purchased my first CD at Lovells. So Had to close out 2020 with some Vinyl. They still have some second hand LPs. They have 12in singles. Prices are a bit pricey and the selection is not vast, but it is reflective of the managements knowledge, meaning you will find some rare and obscure pressings. So in a COVID environment they limit people inside the shop. They enforce mask wearing. It's the right thing to do. They have ample supply of hand sanitizer so use it, since you will be flipping through the merchandise. The counter has plexiglass. They even have local people that will tell you stories of when they saw a band before they became famous. Support a local business and keep a Whittier legacy alive. read more

As soon as you walk into Lovell's in Uptown Whittier you can just tell that this place has been here longer than most millennials have been alive. For used LPs, this place might deliver some gems. The bargain bins are $.49 and up, though, the majority of them were $.99. Quite a big selection too. For harder to find, but still popular rock albums expect to pay a bit more, but not outrageous prices. I perused the Record Store Day leftovers and while I didn't buy any new albums I was happy to learn that they participated and have competitive prices. Great for browsing, as it is located in Uptown Whittier with a good social atmosphere of restaurants and bars around. They carry older vinyl LP's, which are my favorite. Walked in here recently and was taken back to my 80's and early 90's youth. Are they a bit pricey, maybe, but hey, I'm in my 40's and we can afford a lot more than when we were 13...lol. I'm not too familiar with Whittier but I was in the area and decided to stop by. My time in there didn't start off great. I greeted who I assume was the owner only to get ignored. The reasonable person in me wanted to believe he just didn't hear me, but after seeing all the reviews maybe he really did ignore me. Anyway, I decided to stay and give it a chance. Prices are a bit high for me, but I like to support small shops. I would just say to do your research on pricing before buying. I ended up getting 5 records (it was xmas season and I wanted to treat myself). Guy at the counter was friendly, even ended up giving me one of the records for free. It was half off already but 10 bucks is 10 bucks. I would return if I were in the area, but would probably steer clear of the owner. read more

Out of the three vinyl record stores I visited, this was hands down my favorite. I left with so many gems such as Earth Wind and Fire, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, Michael Jackson's Thriller, Jackson 5, O-Jays, Rick James, and the list continues. I left so happy, I literally walked out of this store with a smile. I also regretted not buying a few albums I came across. This place made me want to buy a record player for myself. They have everything here: Soul, rock, country, pop, jazz, blues (some really great blues artists like Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, etc), everything. This was the most reasonably priced store I visited out of the three. There was plenty of free parking around and some interesting shops nearby. You could easily spend a whole day in this record store looking for hidden finds. I'll definitely be back here. read more

I've been here a handful of times to look for vinyl, and Cds. The shop has been around for a while, so you get that vibe when you come in. Their stock is varied with used and new, the latter being priced a bit higher than some other shops or online. I have found a couple of goodies but they were not cheap. Once in a while just getting it right then and there is easier than searching at other shops for months or online and paying just about the same price. As far as costumer service, I haven't had a bad experience, not yet anyway. Our interactions have always just been generic. There was one instance where I had a couple of punch cards with several punches and I tried to claim the discount and they just took them, didn't honor the discount and gave me a new one with less punches. It was bizzare but I figured I probably won't be going there too often anymore anyway. Over all it's an alright shop to visit when you're in the area and got some extra cash to burn. read more

I can't count how many times I've come in on my own for the sake of retail therapy. Also, I may or may not have brought a date with me at some point or another (he was just as amazing as the store, if I do say so m'self) and he had a blast, too.
