This review is based on my recent cake order experience with VIP Coffee. I've been looking everywhere for a sailor moon cake because my sister is a big fan of sailor moon and I wanted to get her one for her birthday! This bakery sells a cute variety of cakes that cater to a wide audience from traditional chinese cakes to super cute and adorable cakes with characters like sailor moon, doreamon, elsa, disney princesses and more. I was looking at their cake selection and they had a ton to choose from. They gave me an ipad with all their cake designs. I was taking a while to choose since there were so many to choose from but they were really patient with me. The one thing I want to commend them on is their flexibility. For the cake that I wanted, I really liked the cake toppers but did not like the design of the cake itself and they were so flexible in letting me mix and match so that I designed the cake to best fit my needs. I've had other locations tell me I had to go with the design in the picture. I also gave them a pretty short notice and told them I needed the cake the next day for the birthday celebration. They were so accommodating in making it happen. I do believe that they are cash only. Additionally, if you are ordering a cake, you do have to put down a portion of the cake's price and then pay for the rest of the cake when you pickup. I put down $20 for a $55 cake. The overall presentation of the cake was so so cute. It came in a large clear cake box which was really beautiful. Overall, I was super satisfied with the outcome and my sister was so happy with it. One thing I did note however is that the quality and the paint job of the figures on the cake weren't the best haha. But I didn't mind that so much. The taste was pretty much like a regular asian fruit cake with fresh fruit inside. Overall, I'd definitely come back next time! read more

Great place to stop by if you have a sweet tooth. I got the matcha cake, roll with bean paste and matcha mousse. Absolutely loved the cake and the roll, mousse was just okay but that's my personal preference. Can't beat the prices, I believe the cake was $1.75 and the roll was about the same. This spot is great for Asian style bread and classic Cantonese bake goods. The service is descent and they have pineapple buns with tomatoes and eggs. It sounds strange but this combo is very good. The warm pineapple bun with raw tomato and scrambled eggs is so good. Savory and sweet. I also buy the white square breads here. Taste way better than wonder bread. read more

I like the VIP coffee by Bay Parkway & 65th... perhaps less claustrophobic?? Idk... this location needs so much work. The space doesn't work, it's overcrowded by their own design! They placed a giant center island leaving literally a single file space for customers to come in and out. Their baos are on the right, hot food offerings such as fried noodles, congee and tea eggs on the left. They have 4 steel tables for anyone wishing to stay... but the tables are sooooo dirty! Crumbs, food stain and just kind of gross. While I appreciate that they try to mimic Lily Bloom - their seats are mighty uncomfortable. The garbage can is always over flooded... resulting in spilled tea, coffee... ugh. I tried their Char Siu Bao, Mini bor law yao and milk tea. The Char Siu Bao was terrible, it was sour... not sure why... because it should be sweet. The mini bor law yao was not very good either, the top stayed crispy; while the bun itself was not soft. The milk tea was OK. Overall, not my fav bakery. Lily Bloom has them beat! read more

This place is my usual chinese bakery i go to for the AM. I do question their sanitation practices. The lady at the cashier wears the most atrocious, worn out, torn gloves and resumes to touch things and then count cash! This bothered me and I don't speak Chinese so I could not say anything...This place has what I like but now I'm a little weary about buying anything here. They do wear masks but wearing gloves that look 3 wks old doesn't help the situation. If the owner of this joint is reading this, please instruct your workers to wash their hands rather than wearing gloves and spreading god knows what around! If this changes, I do not mind their selections. FYI, don't get the red bean (swirl) bun. It is not so great! read more

This review is based on two visits. I normally go next door to Lily Bloom for my coffee and bread fix but decided to drop by because it was closed. Prior to this visit, I was there during their grand opening week. There's some seating and the place is clean but it is cramped insdide. There's a cart smack dab in the middle of the store and only one direction to go in and out because of it so it is a tight squeeze. Most of the items are labeled so just let the attendant know what you want. I haven't had a chance to try all the bread, but there's tons of options---bread, cakes, fruit cups, chinese sweets, and I believe they serve some hot food as well. Prices are slightly higher than what I'm used to, but seriously at $1 a piece for bread..can you really complain? For my first visit, I had a pineapple bun and a scallion hot dog bun. The pineapple bun was average so nothing much to say there. However, the mayo they added on the scallion bun (which is typical for this bun) had a sour taste that I didn't quite enjoy. I ordered a coffee as well, which was pretty standard in taste. Price was about $5. My reason for docking two stars for this review primarily has to do with service during my first visit. The lady with the red hair (who I believe is the owner) took my coffee order and was just plain rude. I asked for a coffee with milk and sugar and she gave me a black coffee. When I asked if she could add milk, she complained and told me I should have told her beforehand WHEN I DID. She tried to argue with me, so I just paid and left. After that experience, I refused to come back but months later decided to give the place another chance. I ordered a plain white bun (my favorite) and a coffee. Definitely not my go to spot for bread..I expected a little more flavor in the white bun but it was bland. I know..I ordered a plain bun so obviously there won't be much flavor but those of you bread connoisseurs will know what I mean. There's a certain sweetness to getting those right. Fortunately, the coffee was good and came with milk this time. Total came to $2.20 which is dirt cheap. There's better options out there so I'd only come here as a last resort. read more

Wise stop for HK style drinks and pastries

This is one of the most dishonest bakeries in the neighborhood. There's a reason they don't label the steam buns they sell as a bundle on the display table because they are trying to sell their expiring stale food. I asked if they had vegetables buns, the lady handed me a bag from the table at the right and said this is it. She even told me what was in it when I didn't ask. I later found it it was expiring pork bbq buns. Giving the wrong item is not the first time either from this bakery. Last time I thought it was an honest mistake from a different lady when I asked for a ham and egg bun and they gave me a chopped hotdog bun. That bun she gave me looked like it was baked over and over again since the outside dough color was dark brown. I now think the people that work here are told to push the expiring items out to unknowingly customers. read more

I came here on a weekend and there was some seating, but I mainly went in because I saw rows of bread. I got a pineapple bun, and the bread was really chewy but the pineapple wasn't very crunchy. It was pretty average, and at $.90 it was also quite average-priced. Not bad, but I can probably find better! read more

This is just a first impression. I've never been here before. They had a good variety of buns and since it's my first time, I had to go for the classic item. I got the cocktail bun. While it's not much to look at, it is pretty good. It's not the best I've had but pretty close. There was decent amount of filling. It has finely shredded coconut which some places don't have and the bread is soft and moist. Most places tend to make their buns dry. I will come back to try out more baked goods. read more

This review has nothing to do with the taste/quality of their products but an experience that I just had with the owner. I was short 10 cents so I settled for a bao that I didn't quite want but was willing to compromise. I was taken care of by an employee. I was the only customer at that time. I wanted to called my friend to come and give me 10 cents but he did not answer the phone. As I just stepped out the door, my friend appeared and had extra cash. I quickly went back inside as I did not open nor touch the bao that had a plastic wrap. I was going to ask the employee to exchange the bao but before reaching her, the owner stepped in. The owner basically said no because I walked out the door. Mind you, I only just stepped out. She emphasized that she saw everything. Even the worker said to the boss I was just here a second ago but she nudged her worker in the waist to make her stop talking. I get the principle behind her decision but her overall attitude and rudeness was uncalled for and unnecessary. Overall, this bakery leaves a nasty taste in my mouth and I will not be supporting them anymore. read more
