Any great establishment starts with management that knows what's up. Ginger does. She leads by example always showing patience, kindness, and respect to all customers even when things get hectic. And all her nail technicians follow suit. They're happy and friendly whenever they work on your nails or toes. They work on mine often, as I've been coming here for years. Customer service is a huge factor for me. So is cleanliness. It's my wish that nail salons would get A-F ratings like food establishments do. But until that time comes, I gauge with my eyes. The tools are sanitized after use, and the sinks are rinsed out completely. The nail techs also know what they are doing. I never felt the need to hover over my toes to supervise. When I get here, I can relax knowing I'm in good hands. Cuticles are cut and nails are filed thoroughly with no negligence. The nail polish center currently holds about 300 different colors, not including the 100 gel options by the register. And for the most part, they are kept in good shape. No bottles of clumpy, thick, old paint are laying around. Or I've yet to pick one up. There usually is about a half hour's wait. The scheduling of lunch breaks could be better. But it doesn't deter my toes from getting me here when I can. read more

I shouldn't even review this place because it seems like a secret! Every time I come in, it's almost empty, but by the time I leave it's packed. The staff is very nice and the owner is always there and isn't below doing nails or giving a pedicure herself. This is not the place to go for a quick mani pedi. That's why I love it! They really take their time and do a wonderful job at pedicures and manicures. The place is clean and a mani pedi is $22. I splurge for the $25 paraffin treatment on the feet, it is really great. Bottom line: what was suppose to be a blissful experience was ruined by one rude ass nail chic. It all started because I was in the area, the weekend was coming up, my nails polish was chipped (a big no-no), a mani. pedi. was needed stat, and I saw my Yelp friends reviewed this place favorably. When I walked in, the place was crazy busy (it was the Friday before Labor Day, understandable). The lady behind the counter gave me a number and I patiently waited about 30 minutes. Finally, my number was called and I was ecstatic. Unfortunately, the girl assigned to start my pedi. was less than thrilled to see me. She was deeply involved in a conversation on her cell phone about her friend's son's immigration papers (really appropriate topic to discuss while attending a client...NOT!). This woman couldn't even be bothered to say hello to me. Once she finished taking off my toenail polish (she was still on the phone), I saw her reach for the nail clippers, I drew the line. I let her know it was unprofessional to have a phone convo, especially when she was about to take a sharp object to my feet. Of course, she looked a me like I was talking nonsense. She begrudgingly finished her conversation and rushed me through the worst pedicure EVER! This clown then asked me if I wanted the same color on my nails. I told her she wasn't touching my nails, and I asked to speak with the manager. The manager seemed mildly apologetic and switched me to another nail tech. The mani. went much better, but I already had a bad flavor in my mouth. This place is a big NO for me. read more

My first time coming was a rude experience, but i took it as someone just having a bad day and the absence of Ginger. I've since come back, as you would guess, and haven't left. They're clean and the only two ladies i go to (Marisela is my main, and Sylvia when she's not available) are sweet perfectionist, which i love! Ginger is a welcoming sweetheart. This has to be the WORST experience I've ever had. The Hispanic woman that did my nails seemed so confident and said that only her and one other employee knows how to apply acrylic nails. She did mine and my daughters acrylic tips. Hers looked nice and even and then started to come off in THREE days. Mine... a mess. The "coffin" style I asked for was done so poorly. Not only were none of my nails an even length but none of the nails were the same shape. It looked crazy and also started coming off on the fourth day. I wasn't even in town to be able to fix and once the fourth nail lifted on day FIVE, I just had to take them all off. $68 down the drain. I will never return, let alone recommend. read more

I recently visited VIP for the first time. If I could give half stars, I would give VIP 3.5 stars. My overall experience was definitely positive. I got my usual service of choice--a gel manicure. I went on a Sunday evening and the place was packed. They owner serves as the receptionist and she did a great job of keeping the line moving and updating clients on how many people were ahead in the queue. I was very impressed with the broad selection of up-to-date magazines, which included O, Cosmo, People and People in Español. The price was right. It cost $25 for removal of my old gels and an OPI gel manicure. Beatrice did my nails and she was attentive and precise. Three days in, my nails are still highly glossy. With so many good points, why the 3.5-4 star review? This joint needs a good and thorough deep cleaning. While it's clean enough that I don't think you'll pick up a fungus, it's not clean enough. If they steam cleaned the base boards, corners and walls this establishment would be a crown jewel. As is, it's more of a get'erdone spot than a luxurious pamper palace. I still regard VIP as an essential tool to affording beautification services on a buck in Brooklyn. I will likely be back. read more

Came here because this place had the most reviews (a mere 8, but more than the 1 and 2 others in the area had). I walked in a bit before 3 on a Saturday (before Easter). No one was waiting but everyone was working (so, busy but not swamped). The receptionist was very welcoming. By the time I picked my color, my lady (Teresa) was ready. Water was perfect for my pedi (nice and hot like I like it). I asked for a few minor adjustments to the filing job and it was no problem for Teresa to fix. I loved that she didn't go crazy on my cuticles. I was very pleased with the end result and received compliments from other patrons before walking out. I liked the soft music in the background and the fact that patrons were respectful of others' (quiet/mature) and seemed to be repeat customers. I'll def be back. read more

A nice mani, pedi for about 25 bucks is fantastico. The service is swift and the facility is quite clean. I tried my luck out and had them do my eyebrows but I wasn't very impressed so I've just stuck to the classic m and p. I usually go during the day when it is really empty and there is no wait but my friend said that it can get a little busy on the weekends, especially Friday nights before Shabbat. This is a great nail salon - mani/pedi and eye brow wax for under $30? Hell yes! The salon is clean and everyone is friendly. The prices are perfect - and they even do massages for $60 for an hour. I will definitely have to come back and check that out. I went after work and did not have to wait at all; however, I did try to go early afternoon on a Friday once and would have had to wait 20 minutes. Not sure if that was a fluke or just a busy time. Either way, I will definitely be back - can't beat a $7 manicure and excellent quality! I'm a fan of this place. It's really clean, comfortable and free of that toxic stench that many other nail salons have. The owner, Ginger, is super-friendly and always around without appearing like shes annoying the workers- we've all seen that before. in fact during a recent visit my polish smudged during the transfer from the chair to the drying area and she quickly fixed them up. The nail technicians are all pretty good- some better than others- but I don't have a favorite yet. True, some days get pretty crowded, so it can be kind of risky, but hey, this is Brooklyn- the land of nail salons. If you are super impatient, I'm sure that there are others around though the experience won't nearly be the same. Their color selection is pretty decent, but I admit to being a neutral kinda girl myself. I could see how someone who is into lots of bright colors would feel slightly let down. The price is right- $7 for a manicure, $15 for a pedicure. They also do waxing here, but I've never received one here or heard anyone complain. Everyone should do things that make them happy. Reading a magazine, with light rock playing in the background, while have my toenails polished is mine. One star off for charging extra for credit card transactions. Clean and not like many nail salons you usually see in Brooklyn. Reasonable prices and complimentary back massage when they are done with servicing you. Manicure: They really are honest and suggest what is only best for you and your nails. They make sure to do a thorough cleaning of the corners of your nails. They ask you always ask you first whether you want your nail shape to be round, square etc. Pedicure: In the summer months it can get crowded but the owner has a system down. Clients can take a number and leave and when their number is approaching they give you a call to come back. The massage chair is heaven. Overall: Its the quality that counts here. They don't care if they have a million customers waiting. At that moment when your getting your nails done, your the only one that matters and they do a great job because of this. read more

In an effort to explore services in BK I tried this nail salon after reading reviews. Overall it was a pleasant experience...the manager Ginger is pleasant, the prices are reasonable, and the nail color selection (Essie, OPI) is good. It's obviously a popular salon since regular customers were in and out of the salon. My only reason for not giving this review 4 stars is because my nail technician wasn't that good. I had to tell her more than once to be careful when cutting my cuticles and to pay a little more attention to rough areas on my feet when scrubbing them. Also, I asked for a paraffin pedicure and she didn't seem to know what to do and had to be advised by the other nail technicians. Finally, when she applied the polish she used way too much. So the drying time took way to long! I'll come back again and I'll try a different nail technician the next time. read more

I came for a manicure since it was in the area and the lady who did my nails rushed and applied two streaky coats to my nails that looked as if a three year old painted them. I called over the owner and she told her to apply a third coat. This made my nails even worse. Then she had her slap on a clear coat of polish, and they rushed me out. The very next day, several of my nails started chipping horribly from every side. I went back to have them fix it, just being there the day before and the owner was very rude and tried to charge me again for a whole new manicure! Absolutely absurd. I ended up having to dispute the transaction with my bank. Such a hassle, and loss of a future customer. I absolutely will not be returning and caution coming here. read more

I made this my regular salon because of Sylvia. She is so warm, friendly and pays attention to detail. My toes and hands were flawless with her. Lately, I have been coming on days she is off because of my schedule. The receptionist is the nastiest woman you can encounter in "customer service"... She talks to people like they are beneath her and I don't see why Ginger keeps her on staff. Ginger you are losing customers because of this girl. This is quite possibly THE best and MOST affordable nail salon in NYC!! The salon is clean, they offer Essie, and O.P.I. polishes and $22 for a mani/pedi can't be beat! Most mani's last almost a week with no chips. One reason for the 4 stars is that most nail colors for Essie are within the "safe zone" of neutrals, common pinks and reds. There aren't many bright and outlandish nail colors (blues, greens,yellows, oranges). It's summer and I like my nails to make a statement!! Also, there are very few O.P.I. colors to choose from. Although, I prefer Essie polish, from time-to-time, O.P.I. does have better color selections. And sometimes, there tends to be a bit of a wait of 30 sometimes 40 minutes. They should be a bit more staffed, but the quality of work is well worth the wait. read more

Got a simple manicure here yesterday. SERVICE My nail shape is consistent, didn't cut/hurt my cuticles and great paint job. I hate when the side of my nail is not painted or something. When you sit to dry they briefly massage your shoulders. My only complaint really is I'm use to more of a hand/arm massage in California. It is my FAVORITE part of the whole service. I got only a hand massage and it couldn't have lasted more than 30 seconds each hand :-( ENVIRONMENT Not Manhattan fancy but the prices aren't the city either HA! I've been going to VIP for about 2 years. I love the service and that they have no problem taking credit cards, you can even leave your tip on a credit card! A lot of nail salons only take cash. The weekends are super busy so I suggest you call first. I once waited 45 minutes for a fill in & pedicure. It was worth it tho, because the techs take their time with you. You truly get the VIP treatment. I only gave 4 stars because if you go during the techs lunch time you have to wait, until they finish. I was referred here by a co-worker who has amazing nails that I always notice look especially nice. I went in the evening with another friend near closing and the owner Ginger greeted us and asked what we wanted done. I was thinking of a gel mani and a regular pedi. She asked if I could just do the mani because it was near closing and she didn't want to ask her employees to stay later. I noticed then that she was very nice to them and knew them well and seemed to treat them respectfully. We agreed to just do the gel mani and we were so overwhelmed with the color choices. With really nice brands like OPI gel and Schellac, I had trouble choosing. There were upwards of 100 colors to choose from in all kinds of colors and hues. By the time I choose a color a lady was preparing her station for me and she was nice but kept to herself. She worked meticulously on my mani and expertly pained my nails and accent. As if that wasn't enough to make the experience great, she also had a UV machine large enough for both hands. During my mani I watched Ginger and the other ladies cleaned thoroughly in the salon. The staff is really nice and my girl gave me the best, longest lasting manicure I have ever received! Granted, she took over an hour to complete my services, but obviously the results were worth it. They even give you a VERY BRIEF but appreciated neck and shoulder massage as they sit you down at the drying station. One gripe is some of the drying station fans and lights are defunct. The only and my biggest issues is the receptionist Daniella. She is rude, nasty and her lack of customer service is shocking. If you ask for a receipt when paying for services via a credit card she complains. If you come in at 6:30 to get a pedicure when they close at 8 (sign on the door of business) she will tell you they close at 7:30 and she can not take you. I got my first gel manicure here right before my engagement photo shoot in August. I have been going here religiously since then. I live in Jersey but I wait until I end up in the area again to get my nails done here. I have done my gel manicure and pedicure somewhere else only once-- that was a big mistake. The nails last a good 3 weeks even with how much I play with my hair and handle things around the house. The price is standard and affordable and the atmosphere is busy. The technicians are good at what they do. I do not have favorites as I have been handled by someone else every time I have walked in. The quality is consistent. I walk out feeling primped and pretty. The girls are detail-oriented, clean, and attentive. The owner does a good job navigating the traffic and moody demands of the customers. My only complaint is that no matter how early you show up, do not expect to sit in the first available chair. This place does not take appointments but if you stand outside the door before they open they will take your name and hold a seat for you (not fair). This habit is the only reason they do not get 5 stars. If you do not take appointments, do not hold seats. Anyone who wants a service must be in a chair to hear their name called and so forth. One day I came in at exactly opening time just to find out there are 5 people ahead of me who are nowhere to be found.
