1.8.2025 I stopped by Virgil's because I wanted a hearty soulful birthday meal without having to cook it. I've heard so many locals talk about how good the food is soooo- let's go!!! I pulled up off of Highway 401 in Raeford. There's a few cars waiting at the walk up and 1 ahead of me in the Drive Thru. This gave me time to read the menu on the wall as I waited. Note: check the menu before you go because there's limited visual options posted. There's so many food suggestions that you could get caught up like me trying to make a choice. CONS: Service is not friendly. I felt like she was rushing me at every question. Then she kept closing the window after every question. Covid is over. There's more than 6 feet between the two of us. Virgil's was really busy with walk-up customers too. Even more reason to be friendly when you're face to face with people. We chose to patronize your establishment. PROS: Food is cooked to order. I got mom a 3 piece fried chicken wings with a roll. A medium Mac and Cheese. After feeling rushed, I forgot to order for myself. Once she took my money, she walked away and didn't come back. A 2nd worker appeared later to let me know that it's about 8 more minutes on the wings. Food came out smelling good. Got home, Fixed our plates. Wings were seasoned well. Mac and Cheese needed seasoning. But it was creamy. For the small price of $11. If the customer service improves, I might try Virgil's again. If not, I can find better ways to spend my money. read more

I would not recommend this establishment to anyone. I arrived with great expectations, this being my first time and all, but I left feeling disappointed/disgusted. First, we waited for ten minutes or more outside in the 90 plus degrees heat waiting in line for others to order at the window. While waiting in line in the heat, one of the workers yelled out the window that he/she could not sit on the bench's leading up to the window and they have to wait in their car. Once we placed our order, we were given a number for our order. Getting out of your car and checking often to see if your number has been called is the only way you will know. This establishment does not have a display system like the one that have at other business where the current number is displayed. We ended up waiting 35 minutes for our order of frozen whiting that was over fried and hard, salty mac and cheese, received macaroni salad when I ordered coleslaw, bad attitudes and bad customer service from the employees. Needless to say my family and I won't be going back. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! read more

It was way better the first time I came. I ordered the same thing but this time my mac and cheese was just OK, the sweet potatoes were good BUT both were almost cold and the portions are small. They were literally sort of room temperature. The fish was pipin' hot but a bit overcooked. They could've done better than this. $17 wasn't worth spending this time and that did not include a drink. read more

Nice quaint drive from Fayetteville on a Sunday Morning. I ordered the "Chitlin & Chicken plate" and my two sides were Baked Mac N Cheese & Shredded Cabbage. I can say my lemonade was superrrrrr sugary lol. Definitely should have went with a soda but none the less .... I came for the food! I will definitely come back! P.s. it is better to order from the walk -up take out window vs the drive through. You would be waiting a will if you do a "drive thru". read more

I heard a lot about Virgil's, so I thought I would try it myself. I was very disappointed with the entree I received. I ordered the combination plate of stew beef and chitterlings. First of all, the chitterlings were salty, and the stew beef only had 2 pieces of stew beef on top of the rice. I had to wait 35 minutes for the plate. Customer services was far from good. Not work the drive or the money. I ordered 2 plates $42.00 was not worth the money. Will not be going back. read more

We stopped here on a random Saturday on our way out of Raeford bc I love small business restaurants and man I'm glad we did. Food was amazing and made fresh to order. Very clean, staff was also very friendly. They have drive thru or you can order at a window and have a seat in their very well maintained picnic area, which we did. We will definitely be back and recommend to the people we know. read more

Well y'all, I have came to work for the week here in Raeford,NC and as always I am looking for some food. I'm always on the look out for some food country cooking or even better some good soul food. I found this little spot called Virgil's and seen that it was a soul food spot so I started looking at the reviews. Well let me tell you, google reviews kind of had me wondering. But since they had chitlens, I just had to make my way over today. WELL!! I was so shocked! This is what I have to say or ask, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH Y'ALL WITH THESE BAD REVIEWS? Y'all complaining about the wait time, the food portions, the rude lady taking your order. Y'all must be stupid is all I have to say! 1. The lady that took my order was sweet, kind and very pleasant. Smiling the whole time. I just loved it. 2. Wait time was about 20 mins but that wasn't anything. 3. Back up to the counter to get my food and there was that lovely lady at the counter again. 4. I got chitlens over rice with cabbage and mac and cheese. The plate was super full so I don't know what y'all complaining about the portion for. 5. Price was 16 bucks...well, that's a meal and a drink. Mcdonald's is that price for crap. All in all, Virgil's is a huge hit with me and the food was outstanding and the people were lovely. I will be back every time I come to this town. Y'all cry babies stop complaining and go somewhere else. I dropped by on a Sunday. It wasn't busy when I pulled up around 11:45 am, but I ended up waiting 37 mins for an order of shrimp and a grilled chicken breast and banana pudding. I didn't care for the customer service (long wait time, attitude from behind the glass), but the food was good ‍. So I was a little confused about this place at first. I honestly thought they closed because no one had posted anything about them since 2017. But my husband and I just left the Sunday lunch buffet around 3pm. And let me tell you it was amazing. It's a hole in the wall small buffet. But with great food. Fried chicken, ribs, fried fish. And the sides we're sooo yummy!! Oh and the sweet tea was some good ol southern sweet tea! My husband and I will definitely be back. For small town food this place is ok. Ordered a burger, fries, chicken breast and potato salad. The burger was mission toppings but was delicious. The fires have no seasoning at all. The chicken was a wing not a breast as order and was over cooked. The potato salad stole the show. It was the best thing I tried today. Hope this helps read more

Phone customer service is awful, called several different times, and ended up being in hold for 10 minutes TWO separate times without order even being taken. Food quality a good mediocre at best. Virgils is a home cooked family restaurant. Before Covid they served inside as well as drive thru. Post Covid they're strictly drive thru. Waits are long pulling up so try to phone ahead for a quicker pick up. My unchanging favs stew beef & rice, chicken & rice, catfish, hamburger steak plate and grilled chicken salad. I been wanting to come here for awhile. First let me say, we waited 45 mins for our food. No ketchup, hot sauce, utensils or napkins came with food. We ordered the Friday special - fish with fries and potato salad. Also a cheese burger with fries. All the fries were cold and potato salad tasted like the one out the bucket with more mayonnaise. I first ate at Virgil's over 30 years ago. It was great then, but seems even better now. I've eaten food from all over the world, but nothings beats good down-home cooking. The service is fast & friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the food is made with lots of love. The chittlins (chitterlings, for you city folk) are the only ones I'll eat outside of family preparation. They're not greasy, soupy, or chewy but well-seasoned country goodness. My wife had never eaten them before, but tried them the last time we were there and now she's a fan. Rice & gravy, collard greens, fried chicken, green beans, macaroni & cheese, fried fish, hush puppies... I could go on & on, but I think you get the picture. They are all fantastic! If you're interested in revisiting your country childhood through food, you have to go to Virgil's. If you've never had true country cooking / soul food, go to Virgil's and discover what it's like. Virgil's is a nice small hideaway in Raeford, NC. If your in the Fayetteville, Wagram, NC area You may know about this place. I ordered fried fish and it was good. the side dishes as well. They make the fried food while you wait and all other foods smell and taste fresh of what I had. Fish was seasoned not overly battered. The prices are very good. I give 3 stars because of the outdoor walk up window. Not sure if there is any inside seating for this restaurant so your forced to take it on the go. I like to eat my food hot and not in the car. But otherwise nice look spot to grab lunch or dinner for take out. read more

Good old southern comfort food. For me others may not like them. Not all is the same. However I will say they are good to me and my family.

I have enjoyed all the meals from Virgil's restaurant. I have known the owner, Ms Joyce, for over 20 years throughout my military service and as of current date. The food is seasoned and prepared with lots of love which is the main ingredient for exceptional and quality food! Even when the phone lines are busy and I cannot place my order over the phone, I just get in my car and make the drive because the food and customer service is so worth it!! I wish I could leave half a star for being open during COVID issues. Good did not show any passion or care from the hands making it. Food tasted old and boiled. I never seen someone attempted to boil a steak until here. It was like eating hospital food. Everything tasted old and took forever for them to prepare my wife and I plates. My review is in 2 parts, the food & experience! The food is excellent probably the best country soul food restaurant for miles. They have a great selection and the pricing is good as well. However, don't come too late as they stop making food rather early! Now, the experience! They have the worst customer service and some of the rudest ppl I have ever met! If you're going here expecting good customer service, your order made in a timely fashion, or even expecting your order to be accurate - you're going to be very disappointed. I placed a pick up order over the phone. The man who took my order also took my name and phone number. When I got to the restaurant I was told that three of the meals I ordered aren't served on Sundays. This is not printed on their menus, nor was I informed of this on the phone when I placed the order. When I asked why I wasn't called back to be informed of this, the response was "I don't know. We don't know who took your order." The food I did receive was OK. Overall Virgil's standards have fallen quite a bit over the years and I doubt I'll be back. read more

We were traveling through Raeford when we saw this restaurant on Google. We went back to have dinner and the service and food were awesome! Ol' school country cooking like grandma used to prepare.
