There have been many cost for my college son since his appointment that I have never had to pay before at many different eye doctors. He had a co-pay which we expected but then they charged for test they completed that insurance wouldn't pick up. He then went in to get a copy of his test to turn in for possible active duty service and they charged him another 20 dollars to get copies of the test. However, they couldn't print them out because the person wasn't there that can do that so he then had to wait 7-14 business days. Employees were friendly but the extra charges are the first I have experienced with 9 kids who have appointments every year in 15 years of appointments, especially for college kids who are most likely on a limited budget. read more

Absolutely the worst !!!!!! Dr Tim Wilson runs a horrible practice that his manager single handedly is running in to the ground. Zero customer service , way overpriced ,and when questioned or pushed back on they threaten you. I filed a claim for services not preformed and I was double charged for. I asked for a itemized receipt or a copy of the alleged test...... crickets. I'm refusing to pay until I have a copy of the record period. Had an appointment. Made on a day I am off work. Happens to be a day my 8 year old was out of school. We go to appointment, and they refuse to allow her to come in exam with me. Suggested leaving her in lobby-ALONE. In all correspondence, website, emails, texts there was not a mention of this. They do not require masks, so am not sure what the issue is. It isn't like she is a toddler that will run around. I am a single mom, had I been notified of this, in any form, I would have made arrangements. Desk girl was rude and insensitive. Everyone's friendly but my insurance includes 1 annual eye exam at no cost to me. However, every time I go there some how I end up owing money. I talked to my insurance and it's because they bill part of it as medical. So that's why I end up having to pay. It seems like from the reviews this is part of their normal practice. I was completely ripped off by being given tests I did not want or need. I just wanted a prescription. I was a patient here and I loved Dr. Wilson, however, if you don't save your prescription their office will refuse to give you a copy of your prescription if your due for a visit 2 months out. They instead will offer to supply you with a pair of contacts for 20.00. As a patient, I feel like my prescription should always be available if I request it up to the expiration date. I changed to another provider over their policy. It's unfortunate because the ophthalmologist themselves are wonderful here. read more

My daughter has been wearing glasses for quite a few years now. When we went in to the Virginia Eye Clinic for a checkup, her prescription changed but I didn't want to buy new frames. The Virginia Eye Clinic repaired my daughter's frames (there was a problem with the screw) for free and changed out the lenses. It was such a quick process that I was amazed. The exam was a good experience too. Before any tests were done, we were explained what the tests were for and asked if we wanted them to go ahead and perform them. I declined one test for my daughter that I felt was a little uncomfortable, when it was done on me at my last exam. VEC is a great doctors office and the people I've met there are very knowledgeable. read more

Worst eye place I've been to one of the visits I was there I waited over an hour to see the doctor. I even went up to the desk at one point, because I figured they just forgot about me, nope they were just that behind. The doctor also got my prescription backwards, so when I ordered contacts it took a while to figure out why my new contacts were so so blurry. Don't go here unless you love being frustrated My fiance waited for her contacts to be delivered for FIVE MONTHS before her contacts arrived. When we complained about the wait, they kept offering free contacts for the right eye only. What good are contacts for only one eye? During the entire time that she had to wait for her contacts, the Clinic never reached out to her. They had great covid protocol and they were very kind, helpful, and competent, but the fees were completely outrageous. I was given the impression that my copay would be $35 at the beginning of the appointment, but they charged me $120 at the end of the appointment with my insurance. In addition, they gave me no printed information about my appointment, results of tests, or my prescription. I had to ask explicitly for a copy of my prescription, which they gave reluctantly. They then let me know that they would charge me if I ever needed it again. There was also pressure to buy glasses immediately, but thankfully I dodged that bullet. Extremely disappointed and will never go back. Went in to get just the lenses replaced on my sons eyeglasses (keeping the frame). The took the glasses, and a while later came out with the frame broken. They take no responsibility for this, and instead made me purchase brand new frames. I had no choice, as my son must have glasses, and he has only 1 pair right now. Absolutely unconscionable that THEY broke the frames, and them refuse to replace them or even offer a discount on new frames. They tried telling me there was nothing they could do since the frames were 'out if warranty', which is BS - warranties don't cover negligence any way. The eye exam and staff was very helpful and pleasant to work with. The first issues was they took me to look at glasses after having my eyes dilated. I dont think they would have gave me a prescription if i didnt ask for it. There was a little pressure to buy the glasses even though i couldn't really see because of the dilation. This was done during the COVID 19 quarantine and I was able to schedule another appointment to veiw glasses. I picked a pair of glasses and looked them up online and they were about 60 percent cheaper than what they were selling them for. I ordered a pair there after they reduced the price some and my wife placed a order online the same day. Needless to say i am going on the third week without glasses as i am still waiting for them and my wife had hers within the same week. Completely unacceptable. I also had an appt schedule to see how the perscription is working and had to reschedule becasue three weeks later i still have no idea how the prescription works. Virginia Eye Clinic, Dr. Wilson and his staff, have been taking care of our family for 25 years. We have always trusted our eye care to the professionals at the Virginia Eye Clinic. It is nice that even though our children are grown and gone that Dr. Wilson still asks about them, catches up on their lives, and is genuinely interested in them. My son and daughter in law drive from Lexington to have their eyes examined by him due to the relationship. I would highly recommend. They do offer tests and examinations that go beyond a routine eye exam. The fact I am a diabetic makes this important to me. They have always reviewed pricing and asked before performing any test that would add additional cost to my standard examine. read more

I previously took my glasses to Virginia Eye Clinic for adjustment. Unfortunately, when they were given back to me the lenses were damaged. I was told by the technician they would speak with the lab and get back in contact with me. I did receive a call from VEC a week later, and they were willing to rectify the situation. I was beyond happy and so appreciative they were willing to correct and resolve this situation, because replacing my glasses at approximately $800 was not an expense I was wanting to pay. Approximately, a week later, I am happy to say I have my beautiful purple frames back on my face. Thank you VEC for turning my terrible experience into a pleasant one. Absolutely horrible practice. We pulled my families records and went elsewhere after our last experience. I went there for years and just recently spent over $1,000 between family's glasses, contacts, and doctor visit. My wife forgot to use our new insurance and I called back 10 minutes later with the policy info only to be told "insurance must be presented at the time of service". Cost us over $300 and our eye insurance filed a complaint against them as they even found the policy unacceptable. They could have easily refunded us and filed with our insurance. No one ever called me back from management after I was promised repeatedly a call back. They have "ALL SALES FINAL" signs everywhere too because they know you'll find better prices somewhere else. I kept going here for years because it was convenient not because it was such a great place. read more

Would have been nice if the people at the front desk had told me my insurance was "Out of Network" despite listing on their website that they accept it and it is listed on a sign in the front hallway as being accepted. I called and provided my insurance while making the appointment AND when I checked in, but they did not disclose that they didn't actually accept my insurance until it was time to receive payment (which was 25 times what my copay would have been). I would not recommend this place. I went to the Forest location and I walked into a gift shop. Every thing seems nice and the eye doctor does a good job. I was suppose to get a lesson on how to use my contacts, and I got no help at all and had to rely on friends to help me use them. They also are just trying to sell their products to you, no interest in actually helping your eye health. I ordered my contacts, knowing my eyes are two different prescriptions, and got the first set in a week. I got the other set 5 and a half months later. I had no contact that there was a back order, no contact at all other than calling myself. Also, my credit card information got stolen from their system. I've been seeing eye doctors since I was 6 years old, and this is by far the WORST place I've ever been. Tons of hidden charges and the workers had no idea what they were talking about, especially the office manager. I've been going here seeing Dr. Anderson for 4 years at the Wards Rd location and yesterday was my first visit to the Forest one. I really like her. She's great. The staff at Forest were friendly and services were good. The new facilities were clean and neat. I liked looking around at the little gift shop/boutique in there. However, PLEASE for the love of all humanity - turn off the Fox News! It made my blood pressure go up trying to fill out forms while it was blaring negativity and propaganda on the gigantic TV. Honestly I don't know where to begin. This is getting one star simply because the nurse guy was the nicest person I encountered during my visit. I was there for 2+ hours. I waited 45 minutes after my appointment scheduled time to be called back even though I was the only one in the waiting room, and one person was called back when I arrived. That's just the start ladies and gents. This was the most expensive eye doctor appointment and purchase of contact lenses I have had in my 12 years of wearing contacts, the same brand at that and under the same insurance I've had for that amount of time. $200 more in fact. The price was adjusted multiple times from person to person, so much so that I know I ended up paying more than what was on the calculator in my plain view at the front desk. But why argue when literally every time you say something you get cut off and "corrected" because you as the customer are wrong. Everyone in this office fails to communicate effectively and with emotional awareness to other workers as well as patients. Multiple times I was asked if so-and-so said anything to me to relay to them. Excuse me? I'm the go between? Why is my information not on the paper right in front of you? As a woman I felt emotionally manipulated by the doctor and his workers from pricing to the front desk all because I wanted to try a different contact lens. Wow, this office has the script down on how to make sure you stay with the most expensive brand of contact lenses to a T! So when I said I can't afford them, but you emotionally and verbally shove me into a corner to buy them anyway, you got what you wanted and I got a credit card bill that I don't know how I'll find the money to pay. I was constantly interrupted as well as shut down during any statement or concern, and never felt like I had a say in my personal well-being. From someone who works in the medical field, a clinic like this should understand the common courtesies of customer service and patient satisfaction. I will not be returning to this office. But what do you care, you already got the money you wanted, what's one small patient loss. After being told I had a severe scar on my eye and that I needed to be out of contacts for three months, I was overcharged for a pair of glasses. Went back after three months and was seconds away from being fitted for contacts until I said I was buying them from 1-800-Contacts. He then said he would not fit me for contacts for at least a year due to the scar. Went to multiple other places to get multiple opinions on the scar. All told me the scar was not a problem and felt bad for what Dr. Wilson had told me. This place is a money scheme. read more
