The first thing one notices is that the office doesn't resemble the typical medical office. Instead of industrial carpet and uncomfortable, standard-issue chairs found in most waiting rooms, Dr. Darby's has wood floors (okay, it's laminate) and plush lounge chairs. If it weren't for the frames and sunglasses, it could be Starbuck's. In fact, one of the assistants inquired whether I'd like coffee. The affable assistants efficiently capture and update patient histories and sort through insurance benefits. They're chatty and easily engaged in conversation and banter with patients. As they say, the tone of any office is set by the boss. Dr. Darby is gracious and thorough, and takes time to listen to her patients and explain each of the tests. It's a lengthy examination, but one does not feel overwhelmed. Nor does one feel rushed as though the process for the doctor has become rote. And, mercifully, Dr. Darby does not use the unsettling puff-of-air test to screen for glaucoma. At the conclusion of the tests, Dr. Darby shares in plain terms her findings and educates patients on preventive vision care. While the eye examination could be the perfect lead-in for the hard-sale of glasses or contacts, there is no pressure to buy. If a patient wants to look at frames, fine. Want to shop elsewhere? That's okay too - they give you a copy of the prescription. No one likes being corralled like cattle and, unfortunately, many medical offices take that tact. In contrast, Dr. Darby's office takes a welcome and personal approach that makes the experience both comfortable and enjoyable. Now, if they could just get an espresso maker...

This is unprofessional and poor patient care. I need a new prescription before I can get new contacts and I am on my last pair. For them to cancel without any explanation so close to my appointment date, no option to reschedule to the next available is frustrating. Firstly this comment concerns the Harman optical department in Forest and not the Doctor and eye…read moreexam which were very good and thorough. The issue started when I visited the optical department to order my glasses. I have good eye insurance and was surprised when the lady there started adding on various costs to my glasses order. She also added on anti glare without asking which I declined. I paid, but was not happy with the charges (little over $162). I went home and talked to my eye insurance consultant who explained my plan. I returned to Harman optical and talked to the same lady again. Her response was that the insurance phone people do not know what they are talking about and that she has been doing this for many years. I called my insurance again and told them of my charges and they said that optical are in error after checking the bill Harman optical submitted. I returned again to the same lady and told her this information. She went off to presumably check my insurance plan again. Finally charge adjusted to $45, refund check by mail to take about 6 weeks. No apology from her....nothing. Called my insurance yet again and told them what transpired, they informed me I was still overcharged $20 which they corrected. My advice for everyone ordering glasses at this location is to thoroughly verify all charges with your insurance before paying. Perhaps better to take your prescription elsewhere to order glasses.

I choose a frame from their office. 2 hours after the visit, I called to cancel my order because I did not like the selection. I was told I had to pay $40 in order to cancel the order. I kept the order to avoid the $40 fee. When my glasses arrived, I couldn't see any different from before I went in. So I reverted to buying over-the-counter glasses and I've been using them ever since. With medical and the VSP plan, we still had to pay $920 out of pocket. We had to pay cash before leaving her office. I regret this visit and would not recommend it. RUN FOREST RUN!!!!

I would not recommend Newman and Blackstock to my worst enemy.
