Firstly this comment concerns the Harman optical department in Forest and not the Doctor and eye exam which were very good and thorough. The issue started when I visited the optical department to order my glasses. I have good eye insurance and was surprised when the lady there started adding on various costs to my glasses order. She also added on anti glare without asking which I declined. I paid, but was not happy with the charges (little over $162). I went home and talked to my eye insurance consultant who explained my plan. I returned to Harman optical and talked to the same lady again. Her response was that the insurance phone people do not know what they are talking about and that she has been doing this for many years. I called my insurance again and told them of my charges and they said that optical are in error after checking the bill Harman optical submitted. I returned again to the same lady and told her this information. She went off to presumably check my insurance plan again. Finally charge adjusted to $45, refund check by mail to take about 6 weeks. No apology from her....nothing. Called my insurance yet again and told them what transpired, they informed me I was still overcharged $20 which they corrected. My advice for everyone ordering glasses at this location is to thoroughly verify all charges with your insurance before paying. Perhaps better to take your prescription elsewhere to order glasses. read more

Do not ever expect to receive your glasses if you have to have them sent off for repairs. My sons have been gone for over a year and now mine have been gone for over 4 months. They will never return a phone call. Don't ever expect them to care. It doesn't matter how many text messages or messages you leave they will never call you back. And you can't get them to answer the phone at all unless you use the appointment line. read more

The Dr. in Collinsville VA was good but absolutely clueless about other surgery eye care providers. Someone did call me , but said just to call her, no mention of laser surgery in Roanoke the very next day. Got no receipt or glasses Rx after the visit for a complete exam. They said they gave me a receipt, but they did not. I had to idea I was being referred to Vistar, and when someone just says call me, what am I supposed to think? This place is disorganized and cannot figure out how to run their own office. I had to talk to a supervisor twice and she mentioned oversite? Legal oversites are rarely oversites. I was seen 8 months ago to renew my contact script. The doctor wrote my script for distance but did not include my usual script for mono vision. An oversight on his part. I assumed it was on file as it was in the past. He has since retired. Harman eye center would not write my reading script without another $100 contact fitting appt. It is the same script I had the previous year. It would be just as easy for them to comp a visit and do a five minute check, or write the script as it should have been, but they would rather strong arm me into another visit. It was a mistake made by your staff, I shouldn't have to have to pay for his omission. Emily at the front counter was rude and too busy to even listen and the optician called me back with an attitude to start the call. You lost this customer. read more

Was scheduled for surgery canceled because of the fire I understand that the facility was damaged however they list a phone number for questions and there no answer and the voicemail is full. My husband had a prescription from his Piedmont Dr & he was there to select new eyeglasses. He is a member of VSP so he was curious to find out if he would receive a discount as VSP stated if you ordered certain name brand frames. My husband uses a cane & was a bit overwhelmed at the huge selection of frames. The tech was very helpful by selecting five frames similar to what he was wearing. My husband was quickly able to narrow it down & he did receive a substantial discount due to his VSP plan. The glasses will be ready in two weeks. When I will be looking for eyeglasses later this year I will definitely be visiting Harman to look for some cat eye eyeglasses due to the excellent customer service & the huge selection of frames.. read more

ordered glasses over 2 weeks ago in Amherst. Found out today they closed the office. No one will speak to me don't know where my glasses are. I've been trying to find out where my glasses are for 4 days and all I'm told is someone will call me. Apparently even though I work in Amherst whcih Is why I went to Amherst my glasses are in forest. How am I supposed to get my glasses in forest when they are open until 5 and I work until 5? South Boston practice rescheduled our October 2024 appts to Feb 2025. My husband went to the ER in January with eye pain and was told to see an opthamologist. The practice called us the day before our Feb appts and pushed them to the end of April. When my husband's eye problems continued, he called and requested to be seen. They called the following day and said he had an appt at the other facility in South Boston (Halifax) the following week. When he arrived for the appt, he was told that he didn't have an appt. Two months ago, Dr. Patel at the South Boston office told me that I had diabetic macular edema. He referred me to the Danville office for further care, citing that the issue needed to be addressed soon. The appointment secretery set up the Danville appointment for Friday, December 22nd (two months out for an appointment that I considered relatively urgent). Today, I received a call from the Danville office advising me that the doctor I'm supposed to see doesn't even work on Fridays. This is something that should have been figured out long before now. this is the most unprofessional place i've ever dealt with in all the years dealing with eye health care. the wyndhurst office is like the temu version of optical care. they wouldn't answer the phone for hours nor return calls and when they finally did they stated that the contacts that my son have previously pre purchased had been picked up at 8:40 in the morning on 9/27 which they absolutely had not. when i spoke with the lady about this she proceeded to laugh in my face about it. so much i wanna say about this crap hole! read more

Good service caring staff short wait time helps veterans with service connected disability

Refused service even when complying with their "rules" over masks. Completely discriminatory towards those with medical conditions. They won't tell you what their requirements are when making the appointment and then when you get there they will talk about you like little school children and refuse you service. If I can wear the same mask to hospitals and other medical facilities then why would it be different here when they weren't even wearing any masks when I got there? When I contacted their quality assurance girl Erin she was very snotty on the phone with me and had no idea what she was even talking about when it came to their so called "policy". I had been a patient for years but will never deal with them again thanks to their horrible attitudes and lack of communication. read more

My problem is with one Doctor, Karmen Holdinghausen, who touched my eyes without gloves and I end up with pink eye, which I never had before in my 60 years, I called and talked to 2 people, nothing was done about it, they didn't even see me, I had an appointment with a specialist in their other office 2 weeks after that, I told him the story and showed him pictures, and he tells me, it might be allergies, I know what allergies are and I do know what pink eye is, I know a few people that used to have them, that was it, then yesterday I get a bill from this doctor for something I have never heard of, I have Medicare and Medicaid and I am still charged 39 for whatever it is, I asked for an answer to what is it, I was given 1 word that didn't make sense, I asked again, what does that mean, the same word was repeated, so I checked the bill and this is what it said (92015 Assessment for prescriptive eye wear using a range of lens powers) I was not told about it in the office, I didn't even notice anything different from a regular eye exam. you guys be careful, Make sure they put clean gloves right in front of you and make sure they tell you about all the extra charges that your insurance doesn't pay for, I will never go back to this place and I will make sure no one I know will either. read more

I know this is cliche but it's true: my only regret is that I didn't get LASIK sooner. It is nerve-wracking to think about someone messing with your eyes, but you have one of the best surgeons right here in Lynchburg! Everyone there is so incredibly helpful, nice, and patient. I never felt rushed and always felt like I could ask questions. Drs. Lowder and Harman were both very clear about how to prepare for the procedure and how to take care of my eyes after to ensure I got the optimum results. Dr. Harman did a great job of explaining what was happening during the procedure, which was very reassuring. My spouse had it done here a few weeks later and it has been life-changing for both of us. I waited over an hour to see the first tech. I was early for my appointment. It was two hours by the time I saw the doctor. Wait, wait, and wait. Shifted from one room to the next, with two different techs. Dr. Holdenhausen is good and thorough, and was apologetic about the wait. The younger of the two women at the front desk was rude, frazzled and unprofessional. The very young woman who helped me look at frames was unclear about my insurance and was not very helpful. Had a routine exam here, as should every diabetic, whether he has vision problems or not. I had rather a long wait for the preliminary stuff before I finally got to see the doctor. He was thorough and pronounced me free of any diabetic -related or other pathology and told me my prescription was pretty much the same as I had received a couple of years before. Took them back, waited 1-1/2 after my scheduled appointment, Dr. Kingsley said he knew what happened and after a month of waiting they came in, after calling and calling and calling. Worse than before. Now, still waiting for a call back, as you cannot reach a live person. I lost a job I recently gotten because I can't see. It's been 2 months now to no avail. During my routine eye exam, the doctor took his time and explained his concerns with my family history of Glaucoma and what they're looking out for. I am a very disgusted patient of the Harmon Eye Center, so much that I'm leaving ! Although I found my physicians to be attentive and good at what they do, I cannot say anything positive about their billing/insurance company out of Richmond. Worst of the worst !!!! I now understand why three of my friends also left and warned me about the billing dept. I have had two surgeries and been seen four times and was informed LOUDLY by the receptionist at each visit/ surgery that, "you have a balance!!!" I have NEVER had a balance , paying at the end of each visit total due and paying my eye surgeries before the surgery was even done. This last time was it for me (this week). I complained to the doctor, nurse, receptionist and no one has even offered an apology. I always get, "we found it, sorry", but the embarrassment/damage has been done. Now I understand I have almost a $400 credit from February and was never notified. Its ridiculous to run a business with these people in Richmond who have been doing a bad job for years. Your loosing patients !!! I've had my fill. I want no more arguments and embarrassing moments when I shouldn't have to. I pay my bills ! im beyond angry and will discourage anyone from this business that I can. Unbelievable. I called the office BEFORE I even made the first appointment. I WAS TOLD THEY ACCEPTED MY INSURANCE. I wasted time filling out the paperwork beforehand to save time. I got to the office. I handed the front desk person my information, including the insurance card, and THEN THEY TELL ME THEY DO NOT TAKE MY INSURANCE. Say What? The gals working at the front desk could not even be bothered to take the time to explain what was going on. The one walked away from me; the other barely acknowledged me when I asked, "sooooo, you don't take my insurance?" I was completely treated as if I was a "less than," which thoroughly annoyed me more than anything. I mean, seriously - BOTH of the front desk employees left the front desk and walked away from and left me standing in front of the front desk looking AND FEELING like A COMPLETE IDIOT!!!! The clincher is that I called my insurance company when I got home, and yes...Harman Eye Clinic IS listed as a provider. Surprise Surprise. The front desk workers need to learn how to do their job. I do not reccommend any of the Harman Eye Center locations for any services. I'm 3 month past my initial eye appointment and still no glasses or contacts. I went to the Langhorne office for my eye exam. Dr screwed up my prescription and my glasses were way too strong. Went to Wyndhurst location for my contact exam (staff was great), contacts were good, ordered glasses from them (not their fault Langhorne location Dr wrote wrong script) they actually fixed my prescription that was wrong. Glasses came back and office is closed however I was told that I could send someone to pick up or I could come get from Wyndhurst location. I leave work and go to get my glasses on my lunch hour, drove from Bedford, guess what no one is there and was told I couldnt pick up there. I'm livid!!! So much wasted time with this joke of a business. At this point I just want my money back and I'll go somewhere else and get my glasses so maybe I can actually finally see!!! read more

Bought glasses in Dec of 2018. Returned glasses 3 times for adjustments and when the last go around didn't work I returned the glasses and asked for a refund. I was told I would get a check within a week. Several weeks went by no check so I called. I spoke to Heather who informed me that the check was on its way to just wait. No check so I called back and spoke to Cathy who told me that Heather didn't know there was a process the check had to go through prior to it being issued and again asked me to wait. Later I called again and spoke to Cathy who said the check must have gotten lost. She then said they would issue another check which should only take a few days and would arrive no later than 6/17/19. The check never came and I need a refund to buy glasses elsewhere. Went to the Harman Eye Center in Danville and just need to say Buyer Beware... Make sure you get an up front cost estimate! Even though my insurance provider listed Harman Eye Center as an in network full provider and even though the contacts received were listed as covered by the Insurance, the $0 contact eye exam and fitting was anything but $0 and I ended up paying twice the cost of what you can buy contacts online. I had my LASIK done here a year ago and would go through it again if I had to. Flawless experience and the results are amazing. Two weeks after the surgery I had better than 20/10 vision. I still see a little halo effect at night, but it has never been unmanageable. I liked the results so much that my brother decided to drive 2 hours to spend a long weekend with me and had his done last month. I'd have to split this review. Love Dr. Haley. He knows what he is doing. The staff is great. As for Dr. Harman RUN. This man is rude, uncaring and ruined one of my eyes. You can do better. He then proceeded to tell me it was my fault and lied to my face about how I authorized the proceedure.. lol A friend told me, after the fact, that he had lost his use of hospital priviledges in town. I don't know if this is true and make no statement about this except that this is what was said to me. You may want to check on that before signing up with him. Too late for me. Harman Eye Center is amazing! I am recommending them to everybody. I had Lasik done there 4 days ago and they exceeded what they promised they could do. The staff and doctors are so friendly and encouraging. They recognize you when you walk in and they put you right at ease.
