Disappointed and Extremely upset anytime i look out my window, come outside, or pull up to my property. Im highly upset at the services from Virginia Green lawn care. They destroyed my entire front and back yard. Im left with nothing but a bunch of weeds, dirt patches, the worst lawn on my street and their excuses on how it could not be their fault. They never took accountability, only tried to fast talk me and point the finger. A little back story, I purchased my home in September of 2019 and one thing I wanted was as a new home owner was a beautiful lawn, so I immediately looked for a professional to get me prepared for the spring. I contacted Va Green and they began to come out and treat my property over the next few months. I followed their instructions properly with watering, aerating, and seeding. My grass began to come up lovely thick pretty and green (i'll submit before and after pictures). In June of 2020 Virginia Green came out and sprayed what they described as a "slow releasing fertilizer". Within the next few days i noticed my lawn changing colors to a brownish yellow color in certain spots, between the rain and my sprinklers i knew this wasn't from lack of watering. So i called Virginia Green and questioned what was sprayed on my lawn a few days pryor because it is dying rapidly. The phone rep asked me my watering schedule and told me I was "over watering it" and "watering it too late in the day". I couldn't accept that as an excuse because i was following the watering plan that they told me to do originally, and my grass was great pryor to this last treatment, so i still requested a technician to come out. A manager came out the same day, i walked the property with him and told him my complaints, he told me that "i was not watering it enough", I informed him that his rep just told me i was watering it "too much" and he replied "she's just a girl that answers the phone, she doesn't know what she's talking about, i went to school for this". He then went on to tell me my soil was "dry and sandy" and that i was "cutting the lawn too low". I then asked him "if that was the case then how was my lawn so healthy a week ago and has been for the past few months, and why does the dead grass stop at my property line right where the field tech stopped spraying at, and both of my neighbors and everyone in my immediate vacinity has the same soil type and their grass is growing and not brown, (I live in a subdivision) it wasn't until your field tech came out and sprayed that this occured". His response was "nothing we spray would kill your lawn this fast and if we killed your lawn we would've killed 100 other people's lawn the same day". He told me to keep watering it and aerate and over seed when the fall comes and you will have your grass back in the cool season, so i said "you're telling me that im left with a dead lawn until next year" he responded "it'll be back by October". I told him that "this is unacceptable and I'll be forced to get sod layed now because my grass is dying and looks terrible now and i do not want my lawn to look like this". He responded and told me "not to do anything yet, give it a month, keep watering it, and don't cut it for a month and it'll grow back some". My grass has not grown back to date and now its being overtaken by compacted dirt patches, weeds and moss. I communicated that to the same manager that came to my property and he told me "they could put my account on hold, so i wouldn't get charged for anything else and come spray some weed eater but im basically stuck with it until fall season". Im disgusted, and cancelled their services permanently.Now im forced to look into other options and have to pay for new top soil and look into quotes on laying a new lawn down, as well as having the ugliest lawn in my neighborhood and being forced to look at it all summer. I would never recommend Virginia green to anyone after this. The before/after pics i submitted are pics of my lawn weeks before the final treatment that hurt my lawn and weeks after. read more

My yard was infested with a few types of weeds and refused to grow lush grass. After two years of fighting and wasting money at Lowe's I called VGLC to help me. After a year of use the weeds were gone and my lawn has never looked better (deep green, thick and healthy). I do recommend them but unfortunately I cancelled my service because the $47 visits quickly add up and I thought I was capable of managing my lawn at this point. Virginia Green calls before they arrive and will answer any questions you have, no matter how dumb haha. To me it seems like they really care about the customer. Thanks VGLC!! read more

Unimpressed. When I complained, I was told that we had only used them for a year and they could fix the rampant crabgrass but there would be an upcharge. The yard looks no better than it did when we started with them a year ago and it costs way more than going to the store and buying Scotts. We paid extra for aeration and seeding. We have an irrigation system so everything was watered regularly. We were told that it is hard to have a nice yard in Virginia. I guess they should move their business to a state where you can grow grass well. read more

I have had Virginia Green for several years and been happy for the most part with the service and they even lowered the price at point when it increased(of course it continued to increase incrementally from there but everything else has too). The overall history earned the 2 stars. The reason I cancelled.... the service rep ignoring my backyard entirely and/or lack of consistentcy when applying product. Like I said, most of the time the treatments were great. Thankfully, I have cameras and can use them to ensure Im getting what Im paying for....when the service reps ignore property included in the price and glaze over the rest, I cancel. So far not happy. After 3 applications my yard looks worst than when we started with VGLC. My husband and I don't know what is going on. We have so much weeds especially in the backyard and many dead patches. I called customer service to cancel and I was advised to wait until my 4th application so I have a chance to discuss what is going on with the technician. I was impressed by Virginia Green until I had them aerate my lawn. They brought their heavy machine in when the lawn was soaking wet after a week of rain and put deep trenches in my yard. When I had them come out to look at it, they argued with me that the trenches were from our lawn mower. The trenches were not there prior to their aeration. They ruined my lawn. Just had my annual over-seeding done and the technicians, Jovon and Adam, did a great job. They were very professional, efficient and friendly. Had Lawn Boys as our primary landscape company, they were responsive and the lawn was immaculate. Unfortunately they were bought out by Virginia Green and, although we had been promised that the service would be the same, the lawn quickly went into disrepair; bare patches and moss buildup. Twice we had VA Green technicians come out to survey the deteriorating conditions, but no solutions were offered other than to suggest increasing the size of our mulch beds. When I asked for our money back or a free aerating and reseeding I was told they could not work with me in any manner unless I signed up for another year of treatments - their "100% customer satisfaction guarantee" apparently not withstanding. read more

We used VA green for over a year until today. We still have moss so I asked for a lime treatment. For 50# of lime which is about 5.00 at Home Depot I was charged $206.00!! I assume they would use a better quality of lime but even if it was 20.00 a bag this is 'highway robbery'. The guy was at our house not even 5 minutes. I t made me realize we have wasted Response to reply---I was complaining about the price of the service not the moss. We moved to Richmond 3 years ago. The house we bought had a lot of weeds in the yard. I contracted Virginia Green for their year long service. Weeds were gone after 3 months but then lots of dirt patches. They said I needed aeration and over seeding, an additional $500. We did it. The next week we had a rain storm which washed all the seeds into the drainage ditch. They came back a week later and thru more seed down. I doubled my water bill for 2 months watering as they instructed. Nothing took. I have 3 or 4 different kinds of grass growing. I had asked several times over the 3 years to have a manager come out and explain to me how after spending over $2500 on this lawn it still looks terrible. Finally someone showed up today. Now I get it. This guy was condescending. Would not answer my questions. In short he was the perfect example of extremely poor customer service. I canceled my service today. I'm sure I can do as well or better on my own for much less. This company will try to squeeze as much $ out of you as possible. Once you sign up for basic service, they start pushing the extras. Aeration $500. Lime $300 and on and on. I would advise to go elsewhere. read more

I contracted with Va. Green for regular lawn care in Jun. 2020--the first treatment was 6/10/'20--aerated/seeded in the Fall--through the Fall and Winter the grass grew and the lawn looked great--by the Spring of 2021 it was lush and green--as advertised--may 2021 it was the way I had hoped it would be. June. 9th. 2021 the company came and sprayed fungacide within two weeks sections of the lawn began to dry up--grass turned brown--in spite of rain and watering. July 7th. they came and sprayed lime--that treatment pushed the lawn further toward drying up--during this time we had rain and in between I watered every couple of days--right now most of my back yard is brown and the grass is thin and unhealthy looking--my front yard looks the same. My beautiful green lawn disappeared after two treatments and in less that three weeks. I reported the problem on Jul. 22nd.--on Jul. 23rd. a nice young man ( Ben) showed up and walked the yard with me pointing out all my shade and 'sun' problems--he told me I should NOT expect my lawn to be 'green' year round --that in our area ( Woodlake) growing grass was problematic because of all the trees--I pointed out that a year earlier their rep. told me that wasn't a problem because they accounted for the shade with the type of grass they planted--that their 'promise' was a green lawn YEAR ROUND ! Ben then attempted to 'educate' me re. the fact that grass was a natural, living organism and not like an automobile? After listening to this young man's BS for a few min. So they have been servicing my lawn since February. My lawn is now about 10% crab grass. I called the company to report the problem and hopefully get them to address it. Whomever I spoke with told me crab grass is a grass so they don't treat for it. Is there anyone in VA that considers crab grass something other than a weed. Gotta find a new lawn service read more

It pains me to give VA Green a negative review after years of great service and results. This years re-seeding was terrible. Fewer staff using large equipment that did not seed my edges and missed spots. This after raising their prices.! They are still good for all the chemicals needed to keep fescue grass lush but success has caused them to act like any other large corporation cutting service and raising prices. Comments left for customer are no longer personalized but computer generated general instructions such as raise mower height and water more. read more

I can't get anyone to call me back. I stopped calling because I can't spend all my time trying to get a reply. They have no problem taking my money after performing a treatment. My side lawn has not been touched ONCE since I signed up. They came to aerate and also did not do my side yard but have no problem charging me for all of the incomplete services. I even spoke with the perimeter pest control service person and explained to them what was going on.....they said they would let someone know and STILL NOTHING! We have been loyal customers of Chesterfield, VA Green for almost ten years if we include both houses in Birkdale and Harpers Mill. My Lawn Cutter saw a vast difference in growth between the front yard and the rear yard. We could easily see the spotty growth in front whereas the rear yard was full and lush. All signs pointed to a spotty Spray job by Virginia Green once we both ran thru all of the possible scenarios at hand. That was the only logical conclusion. I called out VA Green to show them the front yard as opposed to the back yard growth, we don't have any children or dogs playing or romping thru the yard and VA Green is only service we use on the lawn and we get it reseeded and aerated religiously. Prior to us calling out VA Green, we showed the VA Green yard service guy the problem in front the month prior. He said, " put down some Pelletized Lime, it will help the soil and promote growth and green up." We did that again since we did it last year. And more than 30 days later, here we are with a spotty front lawn by Chesterfield Va Green. The VA Green lawn guy came over to suggest very cordial excuses as to why the lawn looked this way, its on a slight slope, it's facing the sun, we may need to put down more than 160 pads of lime. Everything but owning the fact that we got a spotty job from VA Green. Nothing about them taking the initiative to do anything positive for a 10 yr customer without the pitch for another $500 in soil conditioning service by VA Green in Chesterfield. I'm hearing that a few people are looking to move on in the Subdivision and we will indeed be one of them. Well, I filed a complaint on Virginia Green with the BBB. Virginia Green responded with this: MESSAGE FROM BUSINESS: Mr. Chambers was verbally abusive to our inside agronomist- Will McEwen, and cussed at him in an inappropriate manner. Virginia Green does not tolerate this type of behavior and we care about our employees and culture. We will not do business with Mr. Chambers anymore. Will McEwen, you sir are a liar. I do not communicate that way. This is so frustrating. Answer this question for me: Is there a way to appropriately cuss at someone when they do not deliver on their promise? I just cancelled my service after almost a year. The lawn does not really look much better than when they started 6-7 treatments ago (and $500+ in charges). I observed them earlier today, the guy got out of his truck spread the fertilizer and was back in and off in under 5 minutes - cost $47. I can easily buy some fertilizer myself for ~$8 and spend 5 minutes of my own time putting it down, saving the $$ every 6 weeks. I was told when I signed up that each visit they inspect my lawn and apply a special mixture to fix what is needed. In reality they throw down the same fertilizer for everyone regardless with no prior inspection of the lawn. When I called to cancel, they offered to send someone to my house to talk to me about it. When I said no, the person hung up on me. Great customer service hey! I am just going to buy the bags of specialized fertilizer/ additive for each season from Amazon and apply myself. A year worth of materials will be equivalent to one Virginia Green visit. Also note... It looks like Virginia Green pays Yelp to filter reviews. They appear to have a high star rating, but if you check out the filtered reviews at the bottom a lot appear to be negative. read more

We have used Va. Green for the past three years and up to now have been satisfied with their performance. This summer we have had an abundance of weeds such as Lespedezia, white spruge and dallis grass that have not been eliminated by their weed control. They have put the blame on us for the existence of these weeds in our lawn. They have instructed us to kill them with Round up. If we have to treat our own lawn why should we pay for their service. I used VA Green for years and they were excellent. Last year I moved to a new lawn care provider after VA Green's quality dropped tremendously. Im not sure if the ownership/management changed or what but the difference was clearly noticeable. I cannot leave a fair review but I will update this review with a more detailed and honest review ASAP. After hearing from a friend how pleased they were with VA green I decided to give them a shot. I called them last Saturday to schedule an appointment and got an answering service who took my information and advised me that someone would be out and leave me a note on my door within 48 hours. I advised her that I would like to be there to discuss options and she then she advised me that someone would call me before they head out. Today Monday I called to verify my appointment and was advised that they already had an estimate. I mentioned that I was disappointed because I said I wanted to be there . The rep was very professional and replied that they were not advised that I wanted to be there and that they do what they call a fly over. A fly over? She said based on my property line she had an estimate. An estimate? I mentioned how disappointed I was already because how can they possibly make any suggestions not even seeing the property? She recommended treatment for weeds and fertilization (which by the way is common sense for this season) and I don't even have weeds. I literally just did my entire landscape and just wanted the pros to maintain it. I mentioned that they were just giving a basic standard price and they could not possibly know what I would need by a flyover. in fact there's no way you can even know someone's property line by doing a fly over (which by the way I also believe is a lie because it wouldn't be cost effective) and you would have to google earth to get that info. I need someone to actually look at my grass and base a professional opinion on what is actually needed according to what the current circumstance is. I mentioned that there's no way they could know what areas I wanted to treat or service and you could not base it off property lines. Also I have a large wooded area in my property line so how can an estimate off property line measurements be fair? I am so far very skeptical and not sure if I I'll do business with this company. Our tech, is very conscientious caring of your needs & most important of all, knowledgeable about horticulture. Sadly, most of the companies that provided home services only wants to get paid and be done. Virginia Green is one example of that. After almost two years of service, and don't see much improvement, and I am still seeing weeds. Last year, around the same this time of the year, I called them to complain about the status of my yard. They came to my house, and walked the yard, and the guy recommended me to upgrade to the premium package. I did, but they did not know that upgrading the package mean higher expectations. This year, same that last year, I started getting weeks. I contacted Virginia Green, but different to last year, they did not want to send a technician. Instead, they asked me for pictures to be sent via email. I was very confuse, but I took one, or two, pictures and I sent them. They said that there was nothing they could do, and it will look better once I seeded. I was in shock by the answer. I tried to remain calmed and I gave it two more weeks. However, every time I mowed my yard, my level of frustration went up. So I contacted via email to cancel my services. I did not receive a response right away, and they show up to my next service but this time they did not even call me to notify about my coming service. In the report said my yard had some fungus however, I have had premium package for almost a year, and this was the fourth fungus treatment so, how it was possible my yard had fungus when they had been treating it? I requested to cancel my service again, and the next day, a guy showed up to do a spot treatment. I should allow him to do it, but I asked him to leave because I already had taken the decision to cancel my services. Why they don't have a team lead, or supervision, to monitor the success, or fail, of their treatments and their technicians? BTY, cancelling services means that they closed my online account so I would not have access to my reports. What a jerk they are. I am going to prove them, and myself, that I can do a better job that they can. One last thing, be careful when you pay for core-aeration and seeding to any company, including Virginia Green. To be able to meet their schedule, they have to start seeding too early most of the time. They start early September when it is still to hot, compromising the success of seed germination. Be sure you request the service to be provided last week of September, first week f October. read more

Had heard generally positive comments about VaGreen so decided to try them - learned quickly that what might have been a good company at one time, was no longer; seemingly got too big and forgot about customer service and retention. Simply, just about the worst customer service and communication that I have ever encountered. Signed up for service via the phone. Had a detailed discussion with the representative regarding prices and treatments. He did not mention doing a walkthrough (just asked about the size of the yard) so I asked - he indicated that he would come by and take a look (apparently he did so as he emailed later that my yard "really needs help.) I had other questions for the account manager and wanted to provided some input on what parts of the yard require attention and what parts (e.g., dog's area) do not. Those messages were not answered. Sent additional emails asking for a reply - no replies. Was surprised, then, early one morning when a technician showed up: very pleasant but confused gentleman who indicated that my account did not contain any information about the yard, the boundaries, dimensions, etc. I provided a brief explanation but he continued to seem uncertain - but moved ahead with the "treatment." Am not sure what he actually did as 15 minutes later, when I went outside to look for him, he was gone. I then sent additional messages to account rep - no replies. I then terminated the service; at which point the "boss" got involved and wanted lots of information. Too late: much aggravation; one expensive "service"; and back to searching for a reliable company. Would recommend strongly that VirginiaGreen be avoided. read more

Bought into the sales pitch, hired the company to seed and fertilize my lawn with monthly maintenance. After the seeding and fertilizing, the grass did not respond well. I called 2 times and expressed my concern. I was told no problem, they would come back in the spring to reseed. In February we sold our house, with an extended close date of April 30. So I canceled my monthly service but asked when I could expect my reseeding. I was told that I had to be on the contract to get the reseeding. (that I already paid for that didn't come up for 375 dollars) I expressed my displeasure with the company by phone and e-mail (in which they never responded) So, I guess that 100% customer satisfaction guarantee sounds good, but I wouldn't bet the yard on it. Results for the time they've "cared" for our lawn have been mediocre and clearly not worth the cost. As a final straw, we hired a top tier Richmond company to replace them, and today, they arrived and essentially destroyed the work done by their successor. Net/net, they are "marketing" pros whose performance is sorely lacking. read more
