Let me start by saying I have never been to a salon that specializes in curls. I am so happy I decided to put my trust into this place. I had an amazing and honest consultation with Ashanti and I booked my appointment to get my pintura highlights two days later. Not only was she friendly but she gave me her honest opinion on the colors that would work for me and gave me options. She made sure I understood the care and upkeep of each option. I had been feeling down about my look and my hair and now I feel so happy with my hair again. I can't stop smiling. She painted the hell out of my hair and it's a work of art. I finally found my go-to curly hair salon! I have gone to various places looking for a haircut that gave me the layers and volume I desperately needed. Their online booking was easy, it let you upload pictures of what you were looking for and write roughly what you wanted. I had the best experience here today! I got a dry haircut from the super talented and super nice salon owner, Mateo. He asked great questions about my hair and really understood my fine curly hair issues, since he has the same type of hair. He gave me a gorgeous dry hair cut, then I got the cleanse and style treatment. Heaven on Earth! He explained every product he used and why, was happy to share his curly hair tips and styling techniques with me. I was nervous about going to a salon in this covid crazy world, but Mateo was really great with the covid safe practices, so I felt very at ease there. Finally! A salon that specializes in not only curly hair, but also uses natural plant products! If you're a curly haired girl, you know this is too good to be true. But, it ain't! The small studio has plenty of street parking, but they also offer parking behind their gate. Mateo is lovely and has a lot of experience with hair, and it shows! He was very sweet and easy to talk to. He never tried to push other services or persuade me to buy expensive products like other salons do. Other salons wanted to charge me over $150 for a simple TRIM, but Virgo was MUCH more reasonable. I am recommending this place to all of my curly haired friends, and will never go anywhere else! read more

I came here to do a curly perm. Keep in mind my hair is long. I paid 1,200 for a "curly" perm and my hair is literally straight. No curls no waves nothing. I do not recommend this place. I talked to the owner on the phone he said I needed to come in for a touch up, why would I come in for a touch up when it didn't work the first time... I tried resolving it with my bank and I even sent them pictures showing them my non curly hair. The owner still won the case ... so don't waste your time or your money !! read more

As all curly haired people know, getting a cut can be a hit or miss, but at Virgo I felt like I was in great hands from the moment I walked in. I went in for a gina curl but was advised to do a keratin treatment instead as I wanted more manageable curls but I did not want to lose volume.Very happy with the results. My hair is now fluffy, voluminous, dries in 1/2 the time, and I can now rock a wash and go for 5 days instead of 3! My hair is all around way easier to manage. Mateo and his team are amazing!! I honestly spent years looking for a stylist who knew how to care for my curly hair. Before coming to Virgo Salon, I had so many unfortunate experiences with stylists. I honestly had given up. Prior to seeing Mateo, I had grown my hair out for over 3 years for the first time ever and as a guy, I must say I was extremely protective over my hair because as any curly haired person knows, it takes centuries to grow out your hair. Anyway, sorry to digress but I was so guarded in having anyone care for my curls but that all ended when I met with Mateo. I showed him pictures of how I wanted my hair to look and he knew exactly how to achieve the look I wanted. With his suggestion/recommendation, I received the Gina Curl and although apprehensive at first, I put my trust/curls in his hands and I don't regret that decision whatsoever. It's been five months since I last received the treatment and I can't wait to see him again for a touch up. I got a dry cut for my natural hair and a scalp treatment to improve moisture and clean scalp debris from the layers of products I use daily. Amazing experience. It doesn't make sense how good their products smell. I got a cut that reshaped my blob hair and got rid of the remnants of a highlighting job from two summers ago. Clean space. Kind and professional staff. And parking is easy to find--I parked at Urth cafe ($5) for convenience but could have probably found street parking since I was there before rush hour. After weeks of searching for stylist who could do for me a natural looking curl perm with organic natural ingredients only, I finally found Virgo hair salon. I went to Virgo salon the last week, and Mateo was my hair stylist. My hair was very thin, dry with a lot of split ends, and I was losing a lot of my hair too. I was afraid if there will be enough of my hair to do curls. But Mateo did a great job by cutting all my damaged split ends and then making an illusion of having volume and natural looking curls on my head. The result was very nice. I was happy that we were able to do this with my thin hair. At Virgo salon I also purchased hair and scalp treatments for my hair those Mateo recommended me. After using my hair treatments, I have noticed, that my hair falls off less comparing to what it was before. I am also looking forward to do a damaged hair treatment RX+ to my hair with Mateo. I got a 'dry cut only' with Elana a few days ago and it was exactly what I had hoped for! I came in with pictures of the look I wanted to achieve and she absolutely nailed it! At other salons, I've left feeling like the stylist didn't listen and I would ultimately be unpleased with the results, but that was not at all the case with Elana. We were on the same page the entire time and I felt so comfortable and confident throughout the process. So so happy with my haircut. I love the salon atmosphere, the products they used and the final results!

Another client and I both had an appointment at 2 PM. She was assisted promptly at 2 PM when my haircut did not start until 2:13 PM. As a salon that claims to be BIPOC friendly, I did not feel valued as the other client was not a person of color and was attended to first. We BOTH should have been attended to promptly at the start of our appointments. To be fair, I received a discount for the delay. Nonetheless, it left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

HORRIBLE, TOXIC, PROFOUNDLY INCOMPETENT. While in LA I booked an appt with Virgo. I have grade 3 "ethnic" hair - including some 3a, some 3c and mainly 3b. I called asking for a curly cut. The individual who cut my hair is Ashley and unless you're masochistic, you should avoid her and this salon as a whole at all costs. They failed to disclose to me when booking the appt that Ashley is a junior stylist with only 2 years of experience. I would NEVER EVER book with someone with only 2 yrs experience. The day before my appt I went into a flotation tank and although I wore a swim cap, water got into the swim cap and completely wet my hair. My ideal "day 3" hair to arrive at the salon was ruined. I was fully transparent and let the salon know by phone, email and text that, as most curly salons require the guest to arrive with their hair in a certain condition, my hair was ruined by salt water. As the owner of Virgo wrote to me, once salt water touches the hair, "it's over". Instead of canceling my appointment or saying I would not get an accurate cut and to book when I am back in LA, they instead said they could shampoo me first and then cut once it is dried. As we know, Day 1 of curly hair is very different than Day 3 or 4. They wanted my $250. If they were more earnest and genuine, they'd do what is best for the guest to get the best outcome, not for the hustle. I explained to this Junior Stylist Ashley that the single most important thing to me is to retain my volume and density. Thick, voluminous, dense, wild hair is deeply connected to my ethnic and cultural identity. When completing their online form I uploaded pics of how my hair normally looks, inspiration photos which provided useful information and how it looks when I straighten it occasionally. She really paid very little mind to the photos i uploaded. She said she could cut a couple long layers around my face. I workout 7 days a week and I firmly stated do not under any circumstance give me bangs, as bangs are untenable with my lifestyle and also my overall look. Esp with 3B hair that curls up, bangs would be kiss of death. Ashley seemed to understand the words coming out of my mouth yet the end result would be as though she has a comprehension problem or short term memory issues, not just that she only has 2 years experience. She covertly cut layers ALL throughout my hair. Not two long layers around my face. No, she cut a portabella mushroom cap ontop of my head. She cut bangs. She cut the bangs uneven and she did so in a manner to highlight my patchy widow's peaks. My long hair hid those and she unilaterally decided to highlight them--almost to intentionally cause injury. She also deviated from my instructions and, in a defiant, unauthorized move, THINNED OUT my stunningly beautiful voluminous wild hair so it hung lifelessly.  She did this using regular scissors but how she angled the scissors along my hair strains, which she held outward to do so she thinned out my volume. My local stylist in PA could see the exact technique she deployed to thin out my hair. To thin out a non-white person's hair, as though somehow my thick, ethnic hair is somehow "bad" is something I would have expected in some backwater town, not LA. It is my crown of origin. What I got was not a "curly cut". It was a butcher job that could have been done in any janky mall in America. I immediately expressed my concerns by text, phone and email the very next morning, after I returned to my AirBB. My hair now is a disaster- it's constantly in my eyes, the shape of my hair now has changed the shape of my face, it hangs lifelessly lilt now, it's thinned out, it showcases the widows patches, it must be shampooed every other day vs every 7-12 days. The maintenance of this disaster is like a part-time job. It is an overly layered mushroom-cap butchered mullet that makes me look like I am the lovechild of Tracee Ross and Billy Ray Cyrus. They secretly record you whilst in the salon, thinking it's inculpatory yet it is just plain old creepy. It may be in violation of CA law. The manager, Blair, is toxic, vile, gasligter. They refused to refund me although that is less important  than now suffering damages that cannot be easily remedied. I intend on suing for damages. Do NOT go here unless you're into staggering incompetence and being gaslit. As is routine practice in business/legal,  I informed the manager in proper letter form to put their insurance company on Notice. She emailed me to stop demanding the name of their insurance (another instance of not comprehending words) and to "stop harassing them as they are BIPOC owned". As if being BIPOC owned excises them from normative business practices or absolves them from negligence. She also failed to understand, I am a POC and that defacto position cannot be pulled on me. This injurious event has destroyed me in so many ways. It will take me many years to grow back what she took from me.  I implore you to avoid these inept, hapless f**ks read more

YESI love this place, love my hair. Relaxing space + a hairless dog. Plants, aromatherapy, cool magazines. I came in looking for a perm and got exactly what I wanted. I have never looked better in silk robes and housecoats. I am committed to this perm lifestyle and am coming back when it falls flat. Did not get a haircut w it because I was running short on time. Was rocking a grown out bowlcut when I came in-- so I ended up taking a little bit off the sides myself on my way to work-- because imagine the shape. But I knew that was probably going to happen and I am excellent at cutting my hair on the go. Next time will be patient and get the perm + a cut. I am loving every second of this hair. read more
