Yuck. To be fair, this is not my favorite kind of food. I should have known better when I saw something online about a hamburger that feeds 10 people or something. But we are always eager to support businesses in close proximity to our house, so we gave it a shot. It is also usually not a good sign when a place with "American" food tries to throw "Mexican" in there, too. I found something in my soup that I thought was plastic, but they assured me it was an onion. Whatever. I wasn't going to hold it against them, but the food just wasn't good. I should have gotten a hamburger; my husband's looked pretty good. When I took my young daughter to the bathroom she almost slipped on the floors, which seemed greasy. Maybe it was floor polish, but I am doubting that. Perhaps breakfast would be good? We won't be returning to find out. read more

I'm a huge breakfast junkie! I got the 1 cake, 1 egg & 2 bacon. YUMMMMM! Ordered the bacon crispy and it was perfect. Not easy to accomplish most places. Loved that the egg was scrambled flat like an omelet. Easier for me to eat. Pancake feel apart a little when cutting up, otherwise it is delish. Our server, Dana, was amazing. Actually, I'm surprised at how many poor ratings Virg's has received. I agree about the theme and the older building. However, I think the breakfast is good. I always request eggs and bacon cooked very well, whereas my friend likes just the opposite, and this place actually gets it right. I think it is about as clean as most other older breakfast establishments, like Moore's or Jeremiahs or even Karen's. As for the live wasp, well unfortunately, that can happen at most any restaurant. I've been needing to go to the hospital weekly. Virg's was right around the corner. At home I had two coupons, "Buy a meal and get the second meal free". But we went anyway. I've seen the so-so reviews on other dining sights, but I like to check things out myself. Yes, the menu was too busy. I think they should cut way back on their Mexican menu. But they make it seem fish and chips were a specialty, I haven't had much of an appetite and the person who drove me is already 60. But we both ordered off the kids menu. Mine was a piece of halibut and a HUGE side of fries that they slice right when ordered. They had all the condiments I needed, malt vinegar, tarter sauce which was homemade and cocktail sauce. Usually love this place but today 5/20 at approx 12:00pm server with long blonde pigtails was the definition of awful. She was unbelievably rude from the beginning and as a previous server I know what pisses people off and do my best to be a simple customer. We got dirty glasses and was annoyed when we stopped her for refills. It took 27min to get our food while 4 other tables came in after and got their food before and some even left before we got food. We went in on a sunday . The waitress was complaining beacuse it was closing time and she wanted to go home .The food is fair at best . My philly steak sandwitch was really just shreaded roast beef with cheese on it not steak at all .I am sure it was left over pot roast that is on the menue. Prices are great and you get a lot for the money. Have heard others say things like "I only ordered for one person" and the wait staff is attentive enough to suit my taste. The booths need some attention, but overall a good place for breakfast. The special burrito is great. read more

The service here is horrible! The restaurant was practically empty when we arrived for dinner and the wait time for service was outrageous! The waitress we had was very incompetent; she would answer our questions about food prices with answers such as "it would cost maybe $3" or "It might cost $4". Once we did get our food the waitress maybe stopped by to see how we were doing maybe once or twice. In fact we waited so long in between seeing our waitress that by the time I was asked if I wanted a refill I had been finished with my meal for about 15 minutes and was waiting for our bill to come. Tonight was my first time at this restaurant and it was not a positive experience. The service was good, but the food was terrible. I had the pounded pork chop with maskedpotatoes, and the meat was dry and impossible to eat, the potatoes tasted instant, and the gravy was out if a jar. I could not eat any of it. The waitress suggested I say something to the manager and they would discount the 10 meal. When I did this, he could only offer a discount the next time I came. I explained that this was my first visit and if they didn't offer better customer service than that, I wouldn't be back. And he said "ok" and charged me full price and acted ignorant. Looks like this is the first review for Virg's in Ogden. So first impression is that the sign on the building looks like a hobo or homeless man but is supposed to look like some sort of sea captain. It sort of looks like that sea captain from The Simpsons. When I went in I was greeted by a woman who seemed as though she had been trained to fit the mold of a 1960's sandwich shop waitress. It was obvious that this was something scripted they wanted to be said but it comes out weird when you have an accent. So since this is a seafood joint (given the sea captain on top of the building) I ordered fish and chips. This is what they say they are know for. It seemed odd that they didn't offer the vinegar that would come with most typical order. They had 5 or so type of fries options so I went with spicy since I didn't know what spicy fries even were. It all tasted pretty typical which is the problem. If I'm going to go out of my way to avoid a fast food place I would assume the taste would be different but it wasn't. Then I was given the bill for $16.00. That's a little too much for fish and chips plus a drink....or am I crazy? read more

First time in . . . Ugh! Everything was sticky. You sit where ever you like so I did. I waited for 10 minutes before anyone asked me if I had been helped. When I was asked, the server said she would be right back. It took another 5 minutes and the server said they could get my drink order and be right back with it. We went to Virg's in Ogden today for lunch. Every time I drive by it always seems pretty busy so I have always moved on, but today we decided to give it a shot. The restaurant is clean and friendly. My mother, teenager, two toddlers and myself were seated in a comfortable booth. The menu includes an all day breakfast menu, burgers, sandwiches, mexican menu, and dinner menu. My mother and teenage son ordered the patty melts, one with a salad and one with fries. I ordered the shredded beef burrito and a childrens ham and cheese lunch for the toddlers to share. First of all, the prices were very reasonable. They were between 7 and 8 dollars and the childrens menu was $3.99. Our food came out relatively quickly. It was hot and fresh and the portions were HUMONGOUS! My smothered burrito was nearly the size of my large plate and had plenty of sour cream, salsa, and fresh tomatoes and lettuce. The patty melts were also very large and quite tasty. The side salad that my mom chose was a full meal sized salad with lots of goodies. Not just plain lettuce like a lot of restaurants serve. The kids half of ham and cheese sandwich and tater tots was plenty for my toddlers to share. They also have a really good fry sauce that they serve in a squirt bottle. I was not disappointed at all with Virg's and will likely go back soon. I would like to try the family burger with my sons and husband which is a 10 inch burger. My family have been to your place 4 times in the last 2 weeks the food was good. My problem is today 7/24/2013 @ 12:00 noon we was seated and wated 15 min. Had to ask to be waited on waitress said she would get waters. They never came,they waited on two other tables first aven after asking for service. Still no service. So I can't rate the food. So we decided to get up and leave and go somewhere else. I called In to talk to a supervisor and just got the run-a-round on the fone. I don't think we will be back soon. read more

The service was slow. We arrived around 5:25pm and it took until 6:20 or so for our server to come out and say that the POS system was down and the kitchen had never received our order. The server came and apologize but I was disappointed that nothing was taken off our check for waiting so long. We also stood at the doorway for about 5 minutes until someone told us we needed to seat ourselves. In terms of the atmosphere...Virg's is in an old WInger's and it appears as if they never touched it. I'd at least personalized the place a bit more. read more

I and my father, my sister and her family came here for breakfast Sunday. It took about 10 minutes to get a waitress to our table, then it took about another 30 minutes to receive our food-people who came in much later received their food before us. . My dad ordered toast with his meal and the waitress never brought that out, even asking her 3 times and waiting 20 minutes after he told her for the last time. Food was ok. Had breakfast here yesterday. I had the burrito, the small one, which filled the platter! It was excellent! Their menu is large and they serve breakfast all day if you want! They also offer scones which are like Indian fry bread served with honey butter. Very nice. Portions are large and you will not go away hungry. Prices are very reasonable. Very big portions price is great too. I would rather spend money here than a lot of fast food restaurants that don't give you that much. Wait time isn't that bad as well. Worth checking out. You will have extras when you leave. They get you on Spicy fries and also there drinks. We took our whole family out to eat. The food quality was poor, and the service wasn't much better. We picked at the food and tried to eat what we could, but ended up leaving most of it. The worst part was the chemically tasting chocolate milk that was given to my little girl. I was surprised she wasn't drinking it so I tasted it. One sip and I spit it back out on the plate. It was the most awful thing I have ever tasted. It was something worse than cleaner. I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth! This is a diner type setting, but it does feel like you are in a private seating place Very clean too.. This is our 2nd time there-first time thought service great, food was absolutely wonderful and shocked how inexpensive it was. we then took friends there last night for dinner. I ordered a cheeseburger and menu says "ginormisize it for 3 dollars so I did. Holy smoke- out came the biggest burger I have ever seen and they did not skimp on the meat nor the toppings at all. The fries were a large plate full. It was absolutely delicious, the burger itself made dinner and breakfast (yep-breakfast) for my husband and I. The couple we took there said all the food was better than they had in a long time. Worst food ever! Have been here several times before and have always loved it... after this last visit I can honestly say I will never return. Had the Navajo taco and the scone was soggy like it had been cooked earlier in the day and soaking in a nasty concoction they call chili. Husband had the beef fajitas which looked like the packaged stuff you find in the freezer section. Beans and rice were ice cold and beans seemed to be from a can and tasted like it too.. Better Mexican food than a lot of Mexican restaurants although next time I order the rellano I will asked that it be drained on a paper napkin. Hot turkey or roast beef yummy. Veggies not overcooked. Monte Cristo yummy. Side salads better choice than the so -so fries. Mashed potatoes the real deal. Shepherds Pie, bomb. Bacon & pancakes yummy. Sour dough better than most. Patty Melt one of the best. Sometimes the gravies are fantastic, sometimes pretty good. Have had better fish & chips (try again?). Country Fried Steak huge and good. I think the front of the food service area is TACKY and sometimes cluttered with staff and stuff. I am always asked at the cash register how it went. I generally share what I thought good or what could be improved. I generally tip more than 15%. Yes, it is a bit of a dive. I support small business and this is addition I frequent along with the Greek, Thai and Chinese take-out establishments on Harrison blvd. This was our first time to Virg's. We were immediately greeted by a server who told us to sit anywhere. Upon sitting she came over and asked for our drink order and dropped/threw our menus on the table. We informed her it was our first visit so we were not sure what we might want. She says we have coffee, tea and sodas. We just started with water and as we looked at the menu we saw all the other choices for beverages. Much more choices than the three she gave. Today we decided to just stay with the water and had to ask another server if we could have some straws. We decided to go with the breakfast since we did not want to take more time to go past the first pages and it was before 11. We a;ways like to order different items or their specialties so we got the Monte Cristo and their "The" Burrito. When I said I wanted "The" Burrito our server, who we do not know her name because she never introduced herself, said,"What? What do you want?" , with a negative facial expression All for knowing their main specialty breakfast item! When she understood , then she asked in a suggesting manner if I would like the smaller size. We did not notice that we had that choice. but I said, No, the regular size, She was not stating that the portions are huge(which they are), but she was implying that I should have the smaller portion.She was giving me that eye look for I am a little overweight right now. The regular size is more cost productive for the customer and my husband and I share our food choices and we love leftovers for later meals. The food was good, hence the 3 star rating. We have had better Monte Cristo's made more the traditional way. But, it wasn't bad. She gave us our receipts and left. We found out through others going to the register that is how we pay. While paying, I found out the cashier is the manager. I had to ask. She did not address my concerns as a manager would or should. She just wanted to know if I was going to leave a tip. According to our receipt our server was #5037. Do not know who is over the manager, if that would do any good. Whoever it is maybe they will read these reviews and try and save their business. Do not know if we will give it another try or not. At quick glance at the other menu items I did not see the fish and chips, just Mexican items. Might try that, but McGrath's is great! read more

We have eaten at Virg's about 4 times. We have been there about 6 times. We have gone back because the food we have tried is pretty good and the portions make good leftovers. It's an old Wingers restaurant. The landscaping is that of a deserted building. If you go, be sure to sit on the north side of the diner (turn right after walking in)...the bathrooms are on the south end and the diner on that end smells like old dirty bathrooms. I went into the men's room and the smell was terrible. The service is the real problem at this establishment. Just the obvious cleaning does not happen, like picking up napkins, straw wrappers, jelly packets...if it hits the floor, it stays there. The tables seem to not be cleaned after someone leaves. But the worst is that it takes for ever to get service. Most every time we have been there it has taken 10 minutes or longer just for someone to come to the table and take our drink order. The last time we were there, tonight, an off duty employee finally brought our menus and took our drink order - we got waters. Our waitress, who had been in the back and had to be told she had customers, walked by twice apologizing and saying she will be right with us. We sat and sat. Finally after she walked back and forth by us again and went to the end of the counter and stayed there doing something, we finally got up and left. This was the second time we have left because we weren't being served. Tonight a couple who were there when we arrived got up and left without being served. We really think they do not have a concept or training on customer service. Tonight and one time before a server spent most of their time chatting with friends that were there eating. One of them even sat down and started eating with them. The food has been the reason we have returned. It can be pretty good, but after tonight we do not plan on going back.
