Virgs restaurant is in a fun vintage diner atmosphere. Unfortunately, it's getting rundown. The seats were very uncomfortable. The food was also very average. The bacon was delicious, but my pancake tasted like Krusteaz pancake mix which was disappointing. Our server was really awesome, which was the best part of the experience. read more

We normally love Virg's, but today was the exception. The new-to-us waiter bought out food for 2 of 3 three of us and left hers on the counter getting cold because her hash browns we rent ready. We had to tell the waiter to bring what was done. read more

Heard they had "the best" fish & chips, went to check it out. Generally dirty on first impressions, rude signs lead the way to dingy, broken booths. No " chips" just standard soggy fries. Fish came with no accouterments, save 2 plastic cups of tartar sauce. Requested malt vinegar and a lemon wedge ( a fairy customary staple for fish & chips). The vinegar showed up once my fish was cold, followed by lemon 20 minutes later... coleslaw was alright but served in a dish so tiny that sticking your fork in it basically dressed the table. Pretty disappointing, Being new in town i wanted a good local spot for diner food... The search shall continue! read more

Food: Amazing! My husband and I always get the Belly Buster and the country potatoes with mushrooms, onions, and country potatoes. With a side of country gravy. So yummy! So, we finally got a chance to try this place for breakfast. We were created by the host when we arrived and we were seated in a very nice booth. Since they serve three meals a day here, the menu is very extensive. The place is very large with tables and booths in several rooms. Nice decor. My wife order the small outlaw and I went with the Mexican omelette. Both were covered in chili verde and cheese. Both were very good and hit the spot. The service was also very good. And they had my favorite breakfast drink, tomato juice. We left very happy and will be going back. Many more items to try. read more

Virgs has that old time feel where you get to find your seat and a new favorite meal. I always enjoy the fact that they will let you customize your food to your liking and rarely charge extra for the changes. Portions are very nice especially for a giant of a man like myself and the food is always perfectly cooked. My favorite is the barnyard sandwich with an added burger patty, definitely hits the spot. The only thing I didn't like was some of the Mexican dishes that I got but that's my opinion. The staff is the friendliest and most knowledgeable around. If I ever hit that jackpot this place would be my top pick for purchasing to keep it forever unchanged. read more

We like stopping in Virg's for meals because of it's great food, generous portions and fair prices. The service is always so friendly too. Our most recent visit I got a shredded beef chimichanga and my husband got the Big Bird breakfast. We both were able to bring half of our meals home because they were so huge! read more

The place is pretty crowded. Typical cafe style restaurant. It's pretty slow in waiting you and serving. So if pressed for time might not be a place to go. Staff is friendly. This place is less than 6 minutes from the hospital. The food was not good at all. Too much mayonnaise on my hamburger, fries did not have any taste to it. This is a great little diner with good food and great prices! I got the half order of French toast and swapped the ham for an extra egg. It was huge, I couldn't even finish it. It was absolutely delicious and the service was wonderful! My server was super nice and very attentive. The food was cooked surprisingly quickly, especially for a busy day. We are big fans of diners and how we have missed out on Virg's for all these years is surprising. The staff and service is warm and engaging, the diner vibe is what you expect and are provided and the food is great and large in portions. I don't think it's possible to leave hungry. We stopped in this last weekend. We ordered the 1/2 pound BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger and the Chicken Fried Steak. The burger was cooked perfectly and served on fantastic bun w/ a side of fries. The Chicken Fried Steak took up most of the plate and came with a salad, mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes w/country gravy. It also includes a small bowl of ice cream. Our server was sweet and very attentive. We left with two to-go boxes, which was enough for a second meal. The prices are extremely fair and the menu has several pages of options. If you are a breakfast fan, they serve all day. We will definitely be back and look forward to trying their many different menu options. Be sure to give them a try. read more

This location appeared to be a rework of a former Wingers. The diner feel was very prominent however which fit the bill for Virg's. It was lunch time when we came, but they were still serving breakfast to I opted to choose from that portion of the menu. I felt like a waffle so I tried the Oldtimers Breakfast with waffle, over easy egg, and bacon. The food was very good and it really hit the spot. There was no need for a to-go box today. My husband got the breakfast burrito which he seemed to really like as well. There were not very many people eating while we were there so service wasn't a problem The staff were friendly but seemed to congregate near the kitchen and carry on a bit too much. I acknowledge that restaurants are having a hard time finding good help, and that was the only downside we had with this place. If you are in no hurry and want good food, I wholeheartedly recommend this place. I had a cheeseburger that was fantastic! The bun and veggies were fresh and the 1/2 lb patty was delicious! My friend had breakfast for dinner and she was raving it up too. We sat for awhile before the (only had 2 waitresses) waitress took our order. After serving the food (which wasn't slow in arriving, so another thumbs up for the kitchen), we didn't see again until after we were done (my friend was wanting Tabasco and never got it). I'm updating my review, given we've eaten here a few times now. The first experience was pretty bad, no one attended us and we sat there for a while before deciding to leave, we think no one noticed even then that we left lol but I do think that in part had to do with being short staffed that weekend and the layout of the restaurant. It's no excuse but since then, we've only had great customer service. We've had numerous waitresses assist us and all have been delightful and attentive. The food is really good, solid breakfast/brunch food, and the portions are filling. It can be pretty packed so keep that in mind but we enjoy coming here from time to time. read more

Never been here, had an hour for breakfast thought it would be enough time. Tacky hand written signs instructing diners what and what not to do as you walk in. Initial Service to the table was slow, ordered drinks but it was another 10 minutes before we ordered and received drinks. For eggs, biscuits and gravy and pancakes took 35 minutes to get food. Place wasn't too busy. However I did notice the sign that says we are not fast food when you walk in. They are correct. I'd say the meal was average at best. Probably wouldn't return. The bacon was the best part of the meal. The biscuits were good but the gravy tasted ok something you would buy from Costco. read more

We love going to Virgs Restaurant. The staff is friendly. Service is quicker than most places. We love the feel of the place it's authentic, inviting, and homelike. The wait time for a table isn't long if you go at a right time. The food is remarkable. I've tried some different things off the breakfast and lunch menu and i can never pick what to get because they are all great. Disappointed. My husband and I had never been here before and we wanted to try a new breakfast spot. My French toast and fresh strawberries were good and the orange juice was decently priced compared to other restaurants. Nothing was overwhelmingly flavorful. My husband had an omelette and the American cheese he had added was literally a slice of cheap Kraft cheese on top. They serve margarine instead of butter. His pancake came out after we were finished eating and ready to leave and it just crumbled at the slightest touch. Our server Shannon was very friendly to us and she did a good job. She did take the pancake off our bill which was nice. I think one of my biggest issues with this restaurant is their tacky sign at the register which states they will charge an additional fee for credit cards. Probably more than 90% of the modern world uses a credit card more than they use cash. As a business you absorb credit card processing fees into the cost of your product. It is a HUGE turn off to customers, even if it's cents on the dollar. Perhaps offer a "cash discount" instead of a "card penalty." The fee didn't show on the first receipt she gave us and then on the second she printed off the amount had changed to reflect the card penalty. You can also read their card fee disclaimer at the bottom of the receipt that makes no sense at all. In a nutshell, we won't be coming back and we will stick to our usual breakfast spot at Bee's Cafe. read more

Stopped in for a late lunch (2:00 pm) and the place was nearly empty but there was plenty of staff on hand. The restaurant is fashioned after an old train car like the old diners back east, you enter at the middle and can go to either side. We sat at the far end to get away from the kitchen and cashier area. After a few minutes, a waitress brought us a menu and took our drink order. The menu is huge and begins with the breakfast options which are served all day. I didn't make it past the breakfast options so I am not sure what their lunch and dinner options included, but there were plenty to choose from. I did see a burger that was ordered at another table and it was massive. I also noted that the specials included meatloaf, shark bites and fries (a variant of fish and chips) again reflect the wide variety of options available. I opted for the Special Burrito, something I really enjoy at my favorite dinner in SLC. The Special burrito is eggs, cheese, ham, and hash browns wrapped in a flour tortilla smothered with Chile Verde and more cheese. They have a regular size and for a buck less you can get a smaller version, I opted for the smaller version. The Special burrito was pretty good, steaming hot with plenty of filling and smothered in a good amount of a creamy Verde sauce. Flavor was good, not the least bit spicy, and the portion was appropriate for the price. It is not as good as my favorite place but it was flavorful in its own way. The wife got a waffle with an over easy egg and bacon, all were cooked perfectly and she said the flavor was very good. I debated between three and four stars, I went with three stars, not because of the food, service or prices but the overall environment. This is not the cleanest place but it is not filthy. The real kicker is the noise, with the kitchen and serving station in the middle everything that goes on there can be heard even at the farthest booth away, where we were seated. The servers were talking extremely loud, about the day's current events, tips, hairstyles, etc. they most certainly could tone it down substantially. The kitchen noise, clattering dishes, spatula on the grill, etc could also be heard but those were far more tolerable. Maybe they could pipe some music or white noise to help with the excessive noise? I would eat here again but I would not go out of my way to do so because of the environment. read more

First timer here, but I have never received such rude and slow service. For a local business, you'd think they would treat their customers right. Our waitress was rude, asked what we wanted and walked away. She said maybe 10 words to us the entire time. During the time she took our order, she started yawning over and over and kept her mouth open and kept talking during that time. It was disgusting and rude. Our food was mediocre and very bland. She gave us an extra scone we didn't ask for which we had to pay for, but wasn't worth arguing with her over. We paid 60$ for our meal before the tip which I didn't think she deserved period. We were nice and still gave her one, but she is definitely in the wrong profession. I managed a restaurant, and if one of my employees had acted in that matter, a write up would have been in order, as well as additional training. Not sure what the deal with this place is... Attempted to go here a couple weeks ago and they were closed. The great big sign outside stated that they were open for takeout and there was a big orange OPEN sign in the window. It was early evening and we'll within their posted hours. Now, tried to phone in an order this evening and nobody is picking up the phone, despite being within their posted hours... Again... Guess I just won't attempt to give them my money anymore. I've got better things to do than chase around a business that can't take the time to post updated hours, take their open sign out of the window when they're actually closed, answer their phones (if they're actually open), or whatever their problem is. Really good breakfast diner. They serve a little of everything here. I got the Chicken Fried Chicken over skillet potatoes with country gravy. Words can't describe how big and thick the chicken breast was that they used. It was worth the money spent. Skillet potatoes were amazing. Country gravy was so good that the waitress saw I'd basically ate all of it a third of the way in and asked if I wanted more. I said yes of course and she brought me a coffee cup full of country gravy. Not sure why this place gets such bad reviews. Every time I've gone here I've never left disappointed. read more

The food is mediocre. It's nothing special. Some of the seats are taped together with duct tape. It looks fairly run down. The service was great and they offer a military discount. Also, they have both Coke AND Pepsi! However...there was a customer that insisted on calling her doctor's office. They had extensive hold times...I know this, because she had the call on speaker. We could hear it from across the restaurant. Nobody from the restaurant addressed this incredibly rude behavior. Even after I pointed out it out the server, they didn't want to confront the disruptive customer. I don't know if we will go back. read more
