I'm not sure why I haven't reviewed virtuous before today. It's my favorite pizza! The Mac and cheese pizza is Devine. The margherita is so simple but also amazing. The super fungi is also a solid choice. They are consistently good. I've never had a bad item from them. They have great seasonal salads. I've never tried their ice cream, I'll have to do that soon. I'm just usually so full from the pizza. It's a little spendy but it's worth it. Fresh quality ingredients and all vegan. They also switch up the menu often so you'll get to try new fun pizzas. read more

My daughter and I are vegan and were looking for some good food traveling through Portland this past summer. We found Virtuous Pie on our way into town and the food was delicious and creative! We meant to try a different vegan restaurant as we were passing back through on our way home, but we loved it so much my daughter insisted we go back and try other pizzas. This place was a pleasant surprise! My boyfriend and I came here late on a Saturday night and had a great time. All and all, we ordered garlic knots, stranger wings pizza (buffalo) and the meatball + chèvre pizza. Everything was delicious. The meatball + chèvre pizza tasted like a traditional pizza (reminded me of a non vegan sausage pizza). The garlic knots are worth every penny! Amazing!! The space is casual and open. I really enjoyed the stranger wings pizza. My boyfriend had the meatball and I thought it was just meh. I love that there is a vegan pizza joint and that it's a gem to be inside. Pros: -Everything is vegan -The ranch is delicious and you can buy a jar of it to take home. -Everything is housemade -complimentary house made parm and rosemary infused olive oil -free sparkling water on tap -the inside is tastefully decorated and super cute inside! cons: -The service, our server was short with us and wasn't very nice at all :( -crust is so/so. I'm not vegan but my boyfriend is - I find most vegan pizza feels like an after thought with sad fake cheese that someone put on the menu because they had to. This place does not make that kind of pizza - what they make is not good "vegan" pizza - it's just damn good pizza. Period. Some of the best I've had in Portland. Each pizza is a 10 inch, made to order pie. The crust was crunchy and chewy and the ingredients were thoughtful and wonderfully composed. We ordered the Stranger Wings ($14) with a side of garlic ranch ($1) for dipping and the Meatball and Chèvre ($14) - they were both exceptional, especially the meatball. The meatballs themselves had a great texture and flavor and didn't taste like "fake meat", the lemon chèvre was creamy and added a nice brightness and the red sauce was perfect. The blue cheese drizzle on the buffalo cauliflower pizza was a stand out. They have house made almond Parmesan and herb infused oil on the table and both enhanced the pies. We also ordered a small serving of their kale Caesar ($4) which was pre made and not remarkable but not bad - it was tossed with pickled cauliflower which was the best part. We ended the meal with a flight of their ice cream ($8) - Coffee and Donuts, Matcha Coconut and Charcoal Banana Coconut which was my personal favorite - I would buy a pint of it (which they sell for $11). They were all smooth and creamy and didn't taste like "fake" ice cream. We went around 3 on a weekday and the place was empty so our food came out with in 10 min. It's an open kitchen so you can watch them assemble, fire and plate the pies. It has a large communal table in the center, some bar seating, an upstairs with couches and tables outside. It has a stylish industrial, bohemian design going on. This place really impressed me by making really thoughtful, crave-able food that just happens to be plant based. On Sunday, Feb 17th, my boyfriend and I ran across this place as we were scrambling to find a plan B after just having had terrible service and walking out of another restaurant. Boy, are we glad that happened. The dark-haired girl at the counter (with super cute eye make-up ;)) was so friendly with us. She took advantage of knowing it was our first visit by introducing us to how everything worked, suggesting things, and letting us know about the weekend brunch for us to consider in the future. She said she could make us affogato ice cream even though the menu had changed and it wasn't shown. (It was totally awesome too, so worthy of being a menu item!) Food was excellent! Every. Single. Thing. Perfection! The staff seemed to all be in flow and like they were stoked to be working. I love supporting plant-based/GF businesses and can't wait to come back! *Amazing* food. Super friendly staff. Everything tastes like it's hand made. Our favorite is the skillet Mac and Cheese and the skillet cookie. The cheese is not sticky like other vegan cheeses nor is it fake tasting, it is fantastic. So delicious!!! Our friends highly recommended this place so we decided to give it a try. It's all plant based vegan food, you gotta love the options! I ordered the White Pizza and loved it! The dough and crust are perfectly crispy and flavorful. I dipped it in both the Blue Cheeze and Ranch and found the Blue Cheeze paired best. My Husband ordered the Grandma's Pie and enjoyed it with the Chipotle dipping sauce. The Garlic Knots were crispy on the outside and flavorful and yummy on the inside! We also got a side order of the Mac + Cheese- drool, so good! I would order it without the Bacon next time, I felt it made it a bit too salty. The side of Pesto Pasta was super delish, the asparagus had the most perfect crunch. To drink, I finally tried the Ginger Beer that is all over Portland. It tasted super lemony and not so much gingery, not my favorite Ginger Beer but yummy as something refreshing with citrus! Overall- I loved the food. We really liked the pizza and the ice cream here, the food was top notch and the service was just fine. We got 2 slices of existing pizzas and some ice cream. The slices took a few minutes to come out, but they were very well made pizza, each pizza was unique and had nice flavor combinations. I felt like the ice cream was almost better than the pizza, it was superb! The only reason I didn't give it a 5-star review was due to its ambiance. It's not bad per se, it's just average. I felt it could have done more with its industrial setting and high ceilings - could have added to the experience. In all seriousness though, this is the kind of place that sells you on alternative diets because the flavors are just so well thought out. My companion and I ordered the ultraviolet pizza to share and I felt like it was the perfect serving for two. The crust was perfectly crunchy/chewy and every time I got a sun dried tomato it was like a flavor explosion in my mouth. After the pizza we decided to indulge in the three scoop ice cream sampler. Holy smokes yo, these flavors were on point! The charcoal, banana, coconut was a unique revelation, while the caramel dark chocolate and coffee & donuts were equally tasty and unique. What impressed me was the velvety, creamy texture of the ice cream. It was indulgent yet light and refreshing. All in all, I thought this spot was dope. It's on the smaller side, the seating isn't perfect and there's a communal building bathroom that I'm not sold on but otherwise a great place to try some plant based treats. Definitely returning. Didn't get a chance to try the ice cream by i saw lots of people come pick up the pints so definitely trying it soon. The only negative for me was the seating situation. They have a couple "communal" tables and wall facing bars. There are only 2, 2-person tables and one of them was occupied by a couple who seem to be on a date but had no food or drink (at least for the entire time we were there) and just sat and talked there. read more

In a city with heaps of amazing vegan options, Virtuous Pie has become willfully mediocre. Ordered a pizza, garlic knots and vodka pasta. Pasta came out cold ('watch out it's hot') in a hot skillet, sent it back came out very hot with no sauce, no flavor and woefully overcooked. inedible. I guess all the pasta dishes are cooked earlier, put in fridge, and added to a skillet to warm up. Garlic knots were OK, nothing to write home about. Pizza was soggy (go to Pyro's, much better, or Boxcar!). Such a shame since we went when they first opened and it was way better. Won't be back. Not recommended. read more

I was thrilled to visit this 100% vegan pizza place. Upon arrival, we were disappointed that they were out of many items before dinnertime even started. Regardless, we place our orders and settled in for an extremely long wait for a place that was practically empty. When we got the food, it was good, but I've had better. We had the garlic knots, Margherita pizza and Stranger Wings pizza. Stranger Wings oddly lacked any real flavor despite have buffalo sauce and ranch on it... In my opinion, the food is tasty enough, but might not be worth the wait/price, especially when you consider you're expected to tip up front and bus your own table. read more

They hire hipsters who treat people like crap because they think it's cool. Delicious and affordable vegan pizza! I love that they make their own vegan cheeses (no stick-to-your-mouth daiya here). We ordered delivery through door dash which was a bit pricey but the costs are lower if you pickup directly. We also loved the Mac and cheese (one of the best vegan macs I've had) and the garlic knots. My non-vegan boyfriend was impressed as well. We went with the classic Margherita and pepperoni pizzas and are looking forward to trying some of the specialty options next time. We'll definitely be back. read more

We ordered Garlic Knots which were really delicious with the garlic ranch although they were pretty pricey for the quantity. We also used the garlic ranch to dip our pizzas in, which definitely tasted better than without. We ordered Super Funghi (you wouldn't think raw arugula would taste good on pizza but it actually does) and Ultraviolet and both were really good. I'd say Ultraviolet was slightly better, even if we wish it could've had more pesto. This is most certainly not the best vegan pizza I've ever had, but it was pretty good, plus it's pretty cool you can see it being made. read more

And this place gives the people what they want and more. You would never know or care that everything is vegan because everything is delicious! We had the grandma's pizza, garlic knots, and a scoop each of their house-made ice cream. Everything was phenomenal, but dare I say it...I liked the ice cream better?! Don't get me wrong, the pizza gave me life, but when it was over, the ice cream lifted me on wings of angels to the afterlife. It was here that I finally tried marionberries for the first time in the marionberry cheesecake ice cream and honestly...I GET IT, PORTLAND. I am with you on the marionberry train. We also got the bourbon flavor (i think? it was alcohol-themed without having alcohol in it). Either way, it was wrapped ever-so-sweetly in a house-made waffle cone which stayed crunchy till the end. Pizza was okay, the crust on the gluten free dough fell flat and tasted like a cardboard frozen pizza... that being said I was so hungry so it did hit the spot. The most off-putting thing for me and my boyfriend was the service. The woman who took our order was not too friendly, seemed judgmental and a bit harsh. We were also asked out loud how much we'd give for a tip and to me, that's a discreet question and answer and shouldn't just be shouted out loud. Coming from Seattle and visiting Portland for the first time, this experience gave us a negative first impression about the city and what kind of people live here. Where to start! Virtuous pie accomplishes the impossible--it takes vegan pizza and actually makes it taste great! We had the Calabrese, Superfunghi, and the Chorizo + Artichoke along with some garlic knots. The garlic knots were crispy and came with a delicious creamy aioli. Winning combination. Each of the pies was special in its own right. The Chorizo + Artichoke is great for meat lovers. If truffle + creaminess is your thing then the Superfunghi won't disappoint. Lastly, the Calabrese has a little bit of a kick that really goes well with the goat cheese. As a big fan of pizza, whether it's from NY, Italy, or Chicago, I thought that I knew pizza. I was wrong. This is truly the best pizza in the world. I'm not even vegan and I've had pizza in Italy, New York, Chicago, New Haven, literally all of the famous places. This isn't your basic pizza, the creative flavors never disappoint. Every time I've been here I've gotten something different and it's always AMAZING. If I were on death row and had one last meal it would be everything from here. Literally every single thing is incredible. I don't even live in Portland, I'll drive 2 hours just to eat here. I had only the meatball chevre pizza. I'm sure the other ones are amazing as well. I never thought a vegan pizza could ever be just as good as a traditional pizza. I'm very picky with my pizzas: they can't have too much dough or too much cheese, has to have the right crunch with slight chewy texture but not pillow soft, etc. This pizza really hit all the marks. It was so good you can't tell it's all plant based. Usually I can tell when they're trying to substitute meat/ dairy products. I can't wait to go back and try all of them.
