Last year someone at Rabbits Cafe said that I had to try this pizza, because I wouldn't believe it was vegan, it's that good. Just be sure to order ahead because it takes a while to bake. I was skeptical but ordered the Chicky Parm online, gluten free. This is part of a food court building, so after arriving and picking up the pizza, I went to the larger open area in the back and tried a piece and was sold. It's totally true if you hadn't told me it was vegan, I would have popped a lactose pill for sure. Even more baffling were the chicken nuggets, since most vegan meat tastes...very obviously not. I kept picking the nuggets out to eat them to figure out what they were really made of and couldn't. Crazy good. The GF crust is a bit spongy but I'll take it. It does a good job of holding the sauce without getting soggy and it was wonderfully crispy on the bottom and sides. And the cheese melted well on the edges and was appropriately crunchy there. I'm saying all of this now because I'm back in town and ordered the Bianca GF and that was another wonderfully satisfying pizza. The sausage crumbles on their own tasted more salty than anything, but combined with the ricotta...well, it worked out great. Two slices were more than enough for dinner. I think it's probably in how all of the flavors are blended that makes these pizzas work, because I couldn't figure out the source of the individual ingredients and definitely can't recreate this on my own. I LOVE this place. I'm not vegan. Not even a little vegan. That said. This is a top 5 pizza spot for me in Portland. The Jimmy Pesto is one of my very favorite foods from anyplace. The mix of flavors is SO GOOD. The pesto and the honey and the garlic... all of the flavors mix together to be so freaking good. If anything, the cheese is the weak point. It can be a little sticky/gummy on your teeth - but in no way stops the pizza from being epic. I've had bites of other pies, and they're good, but THIS ONE makes me so happy. I'm not going to say the vegan sausage tastes exactly like real meat, but even as a non-vegan I thoroughly enjoyed the food. I tried the Bianca & my partner got the Viktor Vaughn (gf version). As someone with a nut allergy I was surprised at how good their vegan cheese was given that it was nut free (the mozzarella sticks are the only things with nuts!). You order at a little kiosk and they have outdoor seating that is shared among the different food vendors in the building. It is definitely on the spendier end (runs around $18-$20+ for a pizza that feeds 1-2 people) but I do think that is pretty standard for a fully vegan menu with gf options. read more

Really cool vegan pizza spot. I ordered the lunch special + beer $8 (does have a + root beer soda option $6.50) and the 6pc wings. Pizza was pretty much a cheese deep dish style. The crust was fluffy and I enjoyed every bite. I was really interested in the wings. They were absolutely delicious and I think they were made using jackfruit because they pulled apart like jackfruit. We ordered takeout to take home after a long day of hiking. The online ordering is quite simple, and the descriptions used on the ToastTab menu are thorough, even highlighting all the options that could be made gluten-free. We ordered the pizza week special: the smash and pass, as well as a Bianca, both without tomato sauce, as my partner is on a low acid diet. We requested the gluten-free option on both and put a note about no tomato sauce and celiac-level precautions in the "special requests" field. After waiting over the estimated 30 minutes in the car without any updates, I went inside to see if things were ready. They said it would be another five minutes. With our request being special and requiring extra safety precautions (they prepare and slice the GF pizzas in a separate area), I didn't mind waiting and extra 10-15 minutes. I confirmed the order was GF and saw that they remembered no tomato sauce, which was a relief, as so many notes often get lost in transit with online ordering. As far as the pizzas themselves, they have the best, fluffiest GF crust we have ever had! The pizzas are just as heavy as any meaty, cheese, gluteny pizza and you probably wouldn't miss anything even if you weren't vegan or gluten-free! The cheese is stretchy, and the smash and pass tasted just like a hamburger. I'm only docking one star for burnt edges of the crust and the overly salty cheeses. This place is awesome! I came in on a Friday night for a pick up order only to discover that I had mistakenly scheduled it for Saturday night pick up. Boxcar Pizza was named best vegan pizza this past year in Veg News magazine so had great expectations coming here. Boxcar Pizza delivered! I went with the Viktor Vaughn pizza. The pizza came with mozzarella, cheddar, kale, red onions, ricotta, mama lil's peppers, and pesto. I got it with a side of red sauce for dipping which I recommend. The pizza was very tasty. Plenty of flavor. It was a bit rich and filling for plenty of vegan cheese was used. Perhaps a touch less vegan cheese and other pizza pies with more veggies would be nice. I like that this pizza had plenty of veggies on it. I just got this and was able to eat it all. Each pizza serves one to two depending on your appetite. If you come with a friend or spouse might be good to split one and order a Kale Caesar salad to share. Viktor Vaughn is the real name of Dr. Doom who happens to be the arch enemy of the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Comics. Viktor Vaughn is also a British rapper. Had this for the first time today and got the Jimmy Pesto. They make, what could be, 8x10 inch personal pizzas and I very easily ate it all but halfway through, the over saltiness of it hit. I stopped for a bit to drink water and ate the other half 10-ish minutes later. About 45 minutes later I started feeling sick to my stomach. I would say this is a one off but my partner started feeling sick to her stomach at the same time and only ate half of her different pizza.
