I recently moved back to Texas after being gone for 15 or so years and needed a styles to could trust. I am a snob when it comes to my hair and who cuts it and I took a chance VC. I just called in and randomly was placed with Vanessa. She was fantastic in all aspects of her job. When Vanessa took maternity leave she set me up with Casey and she was just as phenomenal! I would recommend both in a heart beat and they are the reason why I keep coming back every two weeks. The supporting staff from the front desk, appointment schedulers, and the guys and gals that take the payments have worked flawless every time I have been in, and young gentleman knowing my name before I say it is huge, I don't know his name so I get 0 stars but am going to make it a point to get to know his name the next time. Also the staff that will sometimes do the shampoo before I am met by Casey or Vanessa have been great and those staff members can sometimes still be new but you wouldn't be able to tell. This group works as a team, I've sat back and observed while waiting for my appointment and they communicate with each other and customers as well. I could go on and on about my haircuts in detail but like all stylists they ask what you're looking to do for the cut and style. Now remember they can't see your vision of the haircut, some might, but it helps if you can describe it to a tee or find a picture on your phone and go from there. Why you ask? Because I've seen too many 1-3 stars because of clients not being able to get in on time. Answer: Schedule accordingly, YOU, the customer not the stylist, have your new look as a picture on your phone to eliminate wasted minutes on your hair appointment and for God sakes don't have an appointment 20-40 mins after your let's say 45-60 min haircut. This way it leaves time so when the customer before you or even three customers before you decided to question length, texture, or style of their cut the time making it look perfect is still in a buffer zone and not half way through your next appointment. Perfect world is banging out appointments exactly on time, and for 99% of the time I've had no issues, but I have also scheduled accordingly. Price is extremely reasonable, and I have paid 10-20 dollars more for a haircut in other cities. In the end these guys and gals are great and I highly recommend you call them up and schedule an appointment, just make sure you give yourself a little wiggle room for the appointment after your haircut and you have to have a mindset with and during holiday weeks things might be off a little bit due to walk ins and over abundance of appointments. And you habitual one star reviewers, go in with an open mind and a pic of what you'd like as a cut and style don't forget the wiggle room as well, parking is not fun at La Cantera, and no it's not Visible Changes' fault. I had gone in for a consolidation on a balayage that I wanted to schedule an appointment for. After checking in with the representative at the front desk, she asked me to take a seat at one of the couches and someone would be with me shortly. I had waited two hours and watched person after person have their named called but mine. After the two hours of waiting, I walked up to the front desk and asked how much longer. Upon asking for my first name she then asked who I had spoken with. I informed her that I didn't get her name and that it's not my job to do so. She walked away and brought back a consultant for me to speak to concerning my hair. No apology was given to me for the incredibly long wait.the consultant and I were literally standing in front of the entrance of the salon next to the front desk. Not sure how comforting that is. I showed her my idea of what I wanted and it was a balayage that had grey tones at the ends. She chose to voice her opinion and say that that won't look good on me and began mentioning the damage it does to your hair. I'm aware of the damage any coloring does to your hair, considering the fact that it is chemicals. I informed her that I understand you'd have to go through stages of bleaching and that it would be all about maintaining the color. I then showed her another picture that was more natural to my hair color as is. Her comment to that was "that's better." I'm sorry, but I don't come into a salon expecting to get told what I can and cannot have as far as my hair goes. I didn't bother to schedule an appointment like I had hoped to. Instead I just walked out. I have read the reviews for visible changes, which is why I had chose to take the time and go down to the salon so I could schedule an appointment with their business. Unfortunately, it was a waste and they have no care for the people that walk through those doors. I went in for a simple root touch up and a hair cut. Christine was my colorist and she assured me she would be able to color my greys and blend the new color to match with my hair. She colored MY ROOTS ORANGE !!! and the GREY HAIR IS NOT DYED. I paid over 50 dollars for this and I lost time and now the crown of my hair is flaming orange. I would not recommend Christine to any one going to have their hair colored. and I had my hair cut which was butchered. I asked for a simple straight cut across the back and it lies uneven and frayed on the ends. What one needs to keep in mind when considering Visible Changes and using there hair stylist ,is that these girls were more than willing to deliberately ruin anthers persons hair 'while smiling to my face, out of plain malice . I scheduled a 10am appointment with a Master Stylist and was seen right when I was supposed to. The salon was already full of people with rows and rows of stylists. I was able to explain to my stylist what I was hoping for which involves shaping and creating a lighter feel for my very thick hair. I don't feel I communicated very quickly but she was able to understand exactly what I wanted. I was very pleased with the layers and shape of my hair and will definitely return! read more

Particular attention to the creative director, Elena, a talented stylist who leaves my hair amazing with her up to date techniques and provides great customer service. I recently moved from Dallas to San Antonio and I was searching for a new hairstylist. I came across Visible changes and they had great ratings on Google. Unfortunately this place has disappointed me more than any other Salon I've ever been to. Melissa the hair director who teaches hair color techniques did my color and literally turned it from dark blond to almost black. I told her I initially wanted to go darker and I did show her a picture that had ombré and we finally decided no to do the ombré and just have it darker. The color turned it too dark and it looks so cheap. I wish she'd told me that she wouldn't be able to get it to the shade I wanted instead of having me sit for 2.5 hours and finally go home with a color that I hate. ( by the way she never even came to ask about the result; whether I like it or not!!!) I'm not a picky person at all and I understand that sometimes peoples' expectations can not be met but to get y hair THIS dark is what I still don't get. I won't be able to go lighter for months now because my hair will break. I totally hate the color and wish I could back time and skip that appointment. On top of everything I never got to have he haircut with Evelyn because I finished the hair color appointment at 1.15 and and my haircut appt was scheduled at 2 ( they never told me this) so they started looking for someone who could give me a haircut instead. Casey finally did the haircut she did a good job and was sweet. All in all I'm not happy at all with this experience. I wish i could give it no stars .will never return. read more

I scheduled my appointment the day before and had to be worked in. I have been cursed with very thick, naturally curly hair, which I only wear straight. For these reasons, I have a forgiving attitude toward my stylist. She was kind, professional, and friendly. However, I specified that I wanted a shoulder-length cut, with only a couple of long layers in the back and a face-frame in the front. I even showed a picture of my hair from two years ago, when I had the ideal cut. My stylist proceeded to give me a chin-length, angled, bob with tons of short layers in the back. This cut is an absolute nightmare for someone with hair like mine. Also, other employees kept coming around to remind my stylist that she was running behind and had other customers waiting. I was scheduled with a master stylist, so this unpleasant experience, and haircut that I cannot attractively fix at home, cost $72. The salon is nice, and the employees were friendly, welcoming, and professional, I just don't recommend it if you have difficult hair that requires a lot of patience, focus, and listening to your needs. read more

Got my hair butchered. I am new to San Antonio and went to this Visible Changes just because I had a great experience at one of their Houston locations. I asked for someone who could achieve a specific color I've had months ago; light highlights and soft lowlights for contrast. The manager sent me to David. He talked like he knew how to go about the the color I wanted. I kept referring to the photo I had on my phone of my hair. After 3 hours of highlights and "breaking the base" I was a red head. Not happy I told him it's red and dark. He blamed the shampoo assistant and said he'd fix it by putting more highlights. When I saw what he did I couldn't hold back tears. He bleached the entire top of my head. The manager offered to fix it with a more experienced colorist even though I had no idea the one he had sent me to was a low experienced colorist to begin with. I have an audition in LA in 5 days. I don't know what to do. read more

A couple months back I wanted to transition from my long thick curly hair to really short hair. I showed her a picture of exactly what I wanted and let me tell you ... it was a tragedy. I'm currently at a different hair salon trying to fix what she had screwed up. The only way I could wear my hair without looking like BoBo the Clown is by literally bobby pinning every bit I could down. When she finished with my "style" it was already after closing time and I had my two year old with me. I didn't have the energy to argue about my cut so I just left. My first time going to this salon. Pretty hip but feels like a factory. My hair color came out great and the colorist was very professional. But don't let your hair cut by Stephanie. I look like been rolled over by a lawnmower. I showed her personal photos as well as picture from a book in store what I'd like to have done. Stephanie seemed distracted and didn't even pay attention to my wishes. Chop chop chop and I look like an idiot. Never ever again. I understand this is a chain out of Houston but I think this young lady definitely needs to go back to school. She might get away with trimming long hair but a short haircut requires expertise!!! My hightlight and haircut took over 3 1/2 hours. I spent more time waiting on the couch during this process then they spent on my hair. The service was not worth the $162 I left there. There was no communication between the front desk and the stylist/colorist so after an hour of waiting, they said that the person who was going to cut my hair first was too busy. Well, why do I make an appointment then? It was not enjoyable to be shuffled around and left sitting without any explanation. I was told to wait a few minutes and someone will be right with you five times and each time it was over a 20 minute wait. It was the worse hair experience I've ever had. My hair turned out fine. The color was good, but the cut took ten minutes and not one product was put in my hair which was a first as well. Not even hair spray. It was cut, blow and there ya go. Never going back. I need more personal service and not feel like just another head to do. Also I did tell them how long it took and all I got was an I am sorry. Terrible customer service. read more

I am shocked by the overall reviews for this place. This is the only place my husband and I trust with our hair... We moved BACK to Texas so Prissy could cut my his hair. OK, not really but when we decided to move back to SA after five years in Virginia, one of the things my husband was most excited about was having his stylist back. Literally, the entire time we were in VA, he was not able to find anyone to cut it as well as Prissy. Even when we came to SA to visit his family, he made sure to get in at least one haircut!! She is my stylist as well (tho my husband is adamant that since he found her first, he gets to claim her as his haha) and one of the few people I have ever (in 30+ years) trusted with cutting my long, curly hair. She also did my BFFs hair for her wedding and did a fab job. She is incredibly professional, wonderfully skilled, and a pleasure to chat with while you're in her chair! We followed her from North Star to La Cantera and will be loyal customers for life. read more

I'm giving 3 stars because, despite my bad experience, I did also have a good experience that outweighed the bad thanks to the manager and the hairstylist she chose for me, after dealing with a very rude hairstylist who did not want to help me at all. I was able to get the haircut I originally asked for in the end, which was good; I just didn't really like what it took to get it, which makes me not wanna go back. I had a very bad experience with a Master Cutter, I believe that's what I had; she was very rude. I can't remember her name, I think it was something a little hard to pronounce. Anyway, as I was trying to explain what I wanted she had some very rude comments for everything I suggested. She kept telling me the hairstyle I was choosing was too short for my hairline, the girl in the picture has a neck and apparently I didn't. She also went on to tell me that the hairstyle I was choosing was going to be way too difficult for me to style and made a very rude comment regarding something personal I told her. It seemed as though she was doing everything she could to tell me why I couldn't have the hair cut I wanted and at that point I was extremely hurt, I wanted to cry. She seemed very uninterested in helping me so I asked for a manager and she had a very sweet hairstylist help me out, I think her name was Kristin, Kaitlyn? I'm not sure, it's been some time since I've been there. I really would love to return to have a balayage done, but I'm so scared to end up having to go through the same thing. This salon is seriously terrible! The staff, besides Veronica, are so rude. I've been coming to this salon for about a year now, because the location is convenient, but I am done. I went in to get lowlights before my senior pictures, because they had bleached my hair out and it was too bright and brassy for me, and they turned my hair dark brown. I made another appointment to have it fixed a few days later to have the bottoms brightened up. The lady did a bunch of highlights, which I hate, and fried my hair, it looks terrible. They simply do not care about the clients and are only there to make money. There has been multiple times that I was getting my hair washed and the girls doing it were so rude. One in particular spilt water all over my face, used profanities while socializing with the guy washing hair next to us, and complained about other girls working in the salon. After they recently destroyed my hair, and gave me highlights which I did not ask for or want, they offered no compensation, which at this point I had paid over 200 dollars, just trying to get lowlights for my senior pictures. If you like having your hair fried by bland and rude people, I recommend this place, otherwise find somewhere better. read more

Worst hair cut experience ever! If I could have, I would have gave them negative stars. I have been here once before and they said they saved my hair cut information in the system. I had My appointment with Casey, the same hair stylist I had the last time. First off she seemed out of it, she barely spoke to me. She asked me if I wanted the same hair cut as last time. Yes. She had me turned away from the mirror when she started hacking away my hair! When she spun me around to see it in the mirror, I was in complete horror! She cut it way too short! And it was uneven and choppy looking! I was in tears and could barely speak. She tried to convince me that this was how I had it the last time but it was not!! I was obviously extremely upset and crying but no managers came to speak with me. All everyone said was they were sorry. I paid and left in tears. I went to Petra's Hair Salon after a friends recommendation and they tried to fix my hair the best they could. I will never go back to visible changes!! Customer Service with the desk people is off. No doubt about that. BUT, and that's a big but, my colorist is Mari and I have been with her for 8 years and I feel I can never go anywhere else. She is a fantastic colorist and she is very sweet. You show her a picture of what you want and she will tell you the honest truth. She has a ton of experience. I always get compliments on my color. Awful experience! I called to make an appointment saying exactly what I needed and the receptionist raved about the stylist, David, so I booked an appt for color with him. I was going back to my natural color to cover a previous balayage dye job. I was told David was a few levels up in experience or whatever their ranking system is there, so I was prepared to pay more for the color job. Well, David sat me down and said this would be a three part process starting with filler, color, then a conditioning treatment. I said "great let's get started". David washed my hair, put filler, and then didn't touch my hair again until the very end. He handed me off to a gal who ended up doing the rest of his work for him. She proceeded to do the color-which was so very poorly done and I have a feeling the color wasn't applied evenly so I can't wait to see how it ultimately turns out- and then the conditioning treatment-which she must've been new or something because she kept getting water and shampoo in my ear and then squirted product onto my face. It was such an uncomfortable experience. David not once followed up with her or even checked her work but I do see him running around attending other clients even though I am paying for him and his level of expertise to be coloring my hair. Finally when all is done I go back to David's chair with soaking wet hair and he puts products and says okay your all done. David did probably less than a quarter of his job with me. When I go to pay, I ask what the level of the gal who actually worked on me is- I am told she "is just a shampoo girl". I decide I am not paying David's price because she did the bulk of his job, he was hardly present. The manager gets involved and says he will give a discount and then when he tells me the total it is a ridiculous higher amount than the quote I got. I ask why it was so high even with the discount. He tells me that the treatment was something like $43 and I had double the amount of product used. I was not once told about this price by anyone at all during the entire process. Oh, and the whole time I am discussing the issue with the manager David is standing there trying to stare me down, getting defensive and making excuses for his lack of attendance. I end up paying some base price that at the time I felt semi-comfortable paying. So now I am home giving my hair time to fully process the color job and I am finding so many strands of uneven coloring. Just an absolutely awful experience. read more

Love the concept of having a specific professional for each service. Someone for shampoo, Maria was my color expert. ( Had an idea of what I wanted but her recommendations proved "she's the expert".) I made an appointment for Melissa to color my hair. When I arrived, they rudely had me sit down on a couch in the back. After waiting 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment time, I finally sat in the chair and showed the stylist pictures of how I wanted it. She gave the pictures a glance, explained to me what she would have to do, and then told me she didn't have time. She said that she would take me tomorrow if I wanted. At no point was I treated like a valued customer. And as I was pushed out the door due to a "lack of time" nobody offered to help or asked why I was leaving so quickly. I've been going to Visible Changes at La Cantera for about a year. Everytime I've gone there I'm greeted with a smile by a very front desk person. My stylist's are the best I've ever had. Sam does my color, and it's always perfect. Tabitha cuts my hair and stylyes it better than anyone ever has.. I've never had a bad experience here and I was shocked by a couple reviews I've read here. I have friends that come here and just let me say they are the friends with pretty hair. This place is awesome and I would highly recommend to anyone looking to get their hair done! Oh, and I almost forgot... They did good when they hired Zach as a front desk receptionist. I would give 0 stars but you need to give a rating. Yesterday 12/10/2016 I went to have my hair colored for the first time. I have always loved my natural hair color but lately with age comes a few gray hairs. I wanted to cover them up. So 2 weeks ago I went to get my hair styled and the girl who was styling my hair introduced me to Tanya who is a Color Specialist. I told Tanya I wanted to keep my hair color and color my hair the color closest to my natural hair color. Tanya said no problem. So yesterday I had an appointment to color my hair with Tanya. I expressed to Tanya how I wanted to keep my hair color like we discussed and go with a medium golden brown which I thought was closest to my color. Tanya told me yesterday I am going to keep your color. I was so happy that she said that. However when I get to the blowdry/style section of the salon I saw for the first time how dark my hair color came out! IT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE MY COLOR AT ALL! Now my hair looks super dark brown almost black. At no time in my life has my hair ever been this dark. Now I am looking for ways to safely remove some of this color. I am seeing that anti-dandruff shampoo and coconut oil will remove the color. I will not returning to this salon as now I have to wait for this hair color to fade out and pray that I can find a great colorist who can restore my natural color or pray that this color does began to lighten with every wash. But I will say that I don't even recognize myself. Tanya told me that she went darker to cover the gray but that the color would fade to a lighter shade. I pray that it will fade to lighter shade but it won't look like my natural hair color I don't think. By the way I did not have too many gray hairs so I don't see the need to go this dark. I don't want to go to another colorist because I don't want anymore chemicals in my hair. I take great care in my hair and I don't want to damage it. But to anyone who reads this and has never had to color their hair please do your research and I hope you go to a colorist who will listen to you and what you want. Lesson learned! read more

I am glad that some people had a good experience at this salon, but I want to remind others that some of the stylists can be rude and arrogant also. The stylist who cut my hair kicked me out of her chair for asking the stylist not to put layers in my hair. She told me to wait in the waiting area for another stylist to cut my hair with a smock on, mirror in my hand, hair messed up, and clipped hair stuck to my smock. I had to complain to the cooperate office to get my money back. The letter they sent me with my refund said they gave me my money back for being a dissatisfied customer and they strive for good customer service. The letter eluded how the stylist had bad customer service and treated the client horribly. In the letter, the salon could not apologize for how she treated me that day. The stylist rudely put me in time out for not liking her haircut while everybody gawked at me. Nobody including the manager, receptionist, and other stylists stop the stylist, Evelyn, from treating the client in this horrible manner. Do they always give customers this treatment when a customer asks the stylist not to cut their hair in a particular manner? I hope not. read more
