Before describing my experience, I want to preface this by saying that I am not someone who…read moretypically complains or leaves negative reviews. It takes a lot for me to feel strongly enough about an experience to publicly share a negative one. I was seen by Diane Mathew, O.D., for an eye exam, and I had to bring my 7 month old baby because I did not have anyone available to watch her during the appointment. During the exam, my baby began crying. While Diane was entering information into my chart, I briefly stood up to check on and comfort her. Diane then said to me, verbatim, "Ok I need you to sit back down. She can cry." I responded that I only wanted to check on my baby. I did not argue further because I was upset and did not want the interaction to become overly emotional or confrontational. As a clinician myself, I found this interaction to demonstrate extremely poor bedside manner. I understand that certain portions of an examination require a patient to remain seated and that appointments need to proceed efficiently. However, there are respectful and compassionate ways to communicate that. Telling a mother that her crying 7 month old "can cry" when she simply stands up to check on her baby felt dismissive, unnecessarily insensitive, and completely lacking in empathy. After the exam, I called my husband and spoke to him about what had happened. Apparently, members of the staff overheard that I was upset and informed Diane. She then approached me and said that she had heard I was upset and wanted to apologize. I told her directly that her comment had been extremely rude and that her overall demeanor toward me had felt inappropriate. Her response was essentially that she was sorry and that she was "not that type of person." She then walked away appearing visibly frustrated when I did not immediately accept the apology. Unfortunately, the apology did not feel sincere or reflective. She approached me only after other staff members alerted her that I was upset, and when I explained why her conduct had affected me, the focus seemed to shift toward defending her character rather than acknowledging the impact of what she had said. An apology should center the person who was hurt, not place pressure on that person to provide immediate reassurance or forgiveness. I do want to make it clear that the rest of the staff was very pleasant. In particular, the gentleman at the front was kind and helpful throughout my visit. He even opened the door for me as I struggled to enter when I first got there. At one point, he expressed concern that he might get in trouble or lose his job because I planned to leave a negative review. I reassured him that my experience with Diane had nothing to do with him. He treated me very well, and I sincerely hope this review is not held against him or any other staff member who was helpful and professional. Patients should be treated with care, patience, and basic empathy; not made to feel as though they are simply an appointment to get through. A parent should not be spoken to dismissively for responding to her crying infant. Unfortunately, Diane's conduct, followed by an apology that felt defensive and insincere, left me deeply disappointed with the care and professionalism I experienced.

I was contacted after leaving a voicemail, and as a courtesy, my glasses were forwarded via courier to my place of work. I then decided to schedule an appointment for my daughter, but the website was inconsistent with the actual hours of operation. A call was placed to schedule an appointment for my daughter and reached the new staff member that had previously provided incorrect hours of operation. However, I proceeded to make an appointment for my daughter which was for 4/16/19 at 4. Upon my daughter arriving she was told her appointment was for yesterday 4/15 and that she was a "No Show". Twice there was an issue with the same person's incorrect scheduling. The initial impression was great but fell short.

Unlike some places I've been where parts of the visit are done virtually, I saw an actual doctor who took the time to do a complete eye exam, including dilation and a full evaluation. It felt like real healthcare rather than being rushed through an appointment just to sell glasses. I also really appreciated how clean and professional everything was. They still have a lot of their infection-control practices in place, including hand sanitizing when you enter and cleaning frames after people try them on. As someone who notices those details, I loved seeing that level of care. My only challenge wasn't really their fault. I have a gigantic head so finding frames that both fit comfortably and look good on my face is always an adventure. I didn't have much luck finding the perfect pair this time, but that's a problem I run into pretty much everywhere. Overall, a great experience from start to finish. Friendly staff, thorough care, and a clinic that genuinely felt focused on patients first and eyewear sales second. I'd happily come back.

Dr. Pervaiz takes her time with you during her exam and puts you at ease. What I really appreciated during my most recent exam was that we thought my prescription changed in one of my eyes so she increased the lens strength while testing my eyes. Then, she went back to double check my old prescription before deciding on increasing it. It's a good thing she cross checked because my old prescription was actually correct. They have a lot of options for glasses and work well with VSP (my vision plan). I would recommend this office to anyone looking for new glasses, contacts or an eye exam!

Beyond Dr. Platt being a caring and wonderful doctor, the staff here is great and you cannot beat the convenient Broad Street location. I went in 2024 for my eye exam and new contacts and the process couldn't have been easier. Contacts came in quick and the team here did everything they could to keep costs down. I am also prone to styes and other eye conditions during times of stress. I recently moved and found myself with a very nasty double eye issue. I called and was able to be seen same day! Dr. Platt took me seriously, helped me with antibiotics and drops, and is committed to helping patients understand their eyes and ocular health. After meeting the doctor, I can *sort of* see why the past reviews might be so put-off by her? To me, she was great; she fulfilled her job to a T. In fact, I could tell she was actually rather friendly. Just monotone and stone-faced, lol. Then again, I'm used to blunt, straight-forward Asian doctors who forego the customer service voice. In fact, I prefer how streamlined the appointment was - no fluff, no awkward small talk. She'd give long, detailed explanations when I asked questions, so it's nice that she wasn't ALWAYS curt when it mattered. I brought to them a weird sort of dilemma - my insurance was ending soon, so I need contact lens before the end of the month, which meant less than week's turnaround. These would be my first contacts in a long while, which meant an exam and a trial period. Nonetheless, they accomodated me perfectly! The doctor cleared up any anxieties I had about my insurance, explaining logistics to me in a way that had me, someone who usually has no idea what insurance even is, easily understanding. The only thing is that they don't provide a free case for contact lens, which my friend said was weird, but I couldn't care less. This was my first time scheduling and coming to an eye exam on my own, and it was honestly relaxing. If my new insurance allows it, I'd definitely come back!
