I went to this place to support a local establishment in Chinatown. This is a small place, so you may need to wait a bit before anybody can attend you. The young Asian guy was very friendly. The other guy had more of a car salesman attitude. My glasses took a very, very long time to arrive. They were not even apologetic about it. I had to stop by the store several times. On top of that, the progressive lenses were awful compared to other ones I've gotten elsewhere. Extremely disappointed with this place. I hesitated a lot before writing a negative review. I decided to do it to make sure the owner is aware of the situation. I don't doubt others have had a good experience, but unfortunately I wasn't one of them. read more

TLDR: Not recommended at all. I've been a customer for 5 years now. Last year, I noticed my glasses didn't have anti-glare coating even though I'd paid for it while ordering. Unfortunately I didn't have my receipt on me so they decided to gaslight me and charge another $65. Months later, I found the receipt, and sure enough I'd already paid for anti-glare. I figured they must have been mistaken. I was wrong. They knew what they were doing. I know that now because of what happened today. I ordered a year's worth of daily contacts on Dec 16. As of Jan 25, they still haven't arrived. The only reason I visited the store today was because I'd called them earlier and they'd confirmed the contacts were ready for pickup. (I'd called multiple times previously and each time they'd told me it would take one more day.) I asked for a refund. Steve took my card from my hand to give me a refund, and then they both decided they couldn't find any record of the transaction. I pulled up my card statement on the phone and showed them that I'd already been charged several hundred bucks. Here's what the ophthalmologist said: "Just because it's showing up on your statement with our name doesn't mean we're going to give you that much money." I insisted it was MY money, I was just asking for it back since they hadn't delivered the contacts as promised. "There's no way you could have paid that much." This is something he said to his colleague over and over again. In addition to: "This is a lot of money. We can't just pay you that amount." This guy is a THIEF IN A LAB COAT. BEWARE! I sat down and made it clear I wasn't leaving. After about ten minutes, Steve was magically able to find the transaction record which had been invisible in the prior 20 minutes. He said, "I'm begging you to let us deliver your contacts. We've already ordered them and now we'd be stuck with them. This will be a big loss for us." I felt bad for the guy and said fine. IMMEDIATELY, his story changed. "I can't order them right now but I'll place an order tomorrow morning." I said if they were already on their way, why would he have to place another order?! He mumbled something about the shipment getting lost etc that made zero sense. I had him hand write a receipt for me. Steve then dropped off the contacts off with me as a thank you for putting up with them, which was a nice touch. This is how they treated me for being a customer for 5 years: incompetence, lies, waste of time, insults, (unsuccessful) attempt at stealing from me, insincere apology, and lies right after. In addition to successfully stealing from me for the anti-glare last year. Followed by dropping off the contacts at my place, about a mile away from their store. Steve's colleague, the ophthalmologist (the bottom-feeder in the lab coat), didn't apologize once for insulting me. He's the same guy who responds to all the negative reviews here with nasty comments. He'll probably respond to this one saying I wasn't acting pleasant enough while he insulted me or tried to steal from me. Because THAT'S what he thinks he's entitled to. read more

Additionally, they had a huge selection of both sunglasses and eyeglasses. Dr. Dat had some free time, so he even helped me pick out my glasses. I can't recommend Dr. Dat and Designer Eyes enough! They are a small staff but they are truly attentive to your care and satisfaction. After putting off getting my exam for so long (mainly due to every single place I contacted was always either was booked for the next month or unavailable) I finally contacted this one; I didn't know there was one so close to me! and I could walk in and get it that same day! I had a little trouble finding it at first (Google maps needs to get updated!) but it's right above Paris Baguette up the stairs. Dr. Duong and his staff are very pleasant, makes sure you get all the details and super helpful! He was honest and patient about explaining my options, and answered all my questions with no problem. I was nervous since it was my first time going without a parent (adulting is scary) but he and his staff made the whole experience very calming and assuring. I never felt more satisfied leaving to see a whole new world in 4k Ultra HD quality. I've already recommended this establishment to everyone who has needed to get their eyes checked too, and will be happy to visit again next year! Stood and waited 20mins (with 2 other guys) and wasn't even greeted while the worker seemed to be having a casual conversation in the back room. It's upsetting to see such unprofessionalism in 2021. I tried to call optometrists' offices all around Philly, most of them gave me next available appt at least 3 weeks into the future. Designer Eyes let me do same-day walk-in appt right away! From calling the office to getting my Rx, it took less than an hour. Dr. Duong took wonderful care of me. Great Dr. and nice staff. Highly recommend. read more

I want to start by saying the two guys that work there could not be nicer, and they helped me when I brought in my prescription immediately. However, I ordered glasses May 13th and was told they would be in and ready in 9-11 business days. They are for my daughter and I needed the glasses ASAP before she had her follow up appt. It is 6/11/19 and I still do not have the glasses. I have called and the phone just rings and rings. Randomly someone will pick up, and say they're not ready or aren't in with no follow up. I tried emailing, and the email bounced back. I wish someone would follow up and explain why the glasses are taking so long, or would have expressed this when I ordered. After a month of waiting and calling to hear nothing, I am disappointed and really want to cancel the order and get a refund.....but no one will pick up the phone. read more

This place was a life saver. I was turned away at the DMV on a Saturday because I didn't pass the eye test and had to get a doctor certified eye exam that day (if I came back another day I'd have to wait the 2 hours all over again). Only a block and half away I was thrilled to find this office. The staff was so friendly and told me the doctor would be in at 1pm. Exam was quick and easy. Next time I need to upgrade my glasses I'll be going here. They have tons of great frames, mostly high end designer! read more

That's funny and ridiculous, Now I definitely understand how you treat the customer selectively and differently. Shame on you. you you broke my frame and said you didn't have any responsibilities for it. If you told me in advance that you didn't have any responsibilities for breaking my frame when you put the lens on it, I'll take it and go somewhere else , but you didn't. And your manager Steve told me that it would be pick up in second day , but I picked up in 10 days later( now I'm thinking because he broke my frame and tried to cover up ). Yes, you did call me discussed it because you saw me post reviews on Yelp and Google. Last week til yesterday, I called you couple times , first time on Friday that a girl told me that you were not in office and call back Monday, and yesterday( Monday) I called you before 1pm, Steve Green told me you would come back office after 1pm, then I called three times around 3pm , someone picked up the and hanged up the phone immediately three times( I knew it's Steve did it in purpose because He answered my phone earlier and knew my phone number) . Finally Steve answered my phone when I hidden my phone number, after he realized it's me that told me called back in 25 mins because Dr. Duong was doing eye exam, I left my number and wanted he could call me back , but Steve provoked told me " hopefully Dr. Duong call you back". Until today (Tuesday) no one give me a call , now I know he never really want to help me , Wow and this is the attitude I deserve from you. If your guys want to go this office to get lens with your frame or something that you must take a pic to prove your stuff is fine( that's Bryan advised me) , otherwise good luck to you. Had my first ever eye exam and experience at Designer Eyes. They did not require me or my wife to make an appointment prior to arrival and were prompt in getting us back to meet with the doctor. They went through our insurance policy and informed us of how things worked. The doctor was extremely knowledgeable and informative letting us know different things as we went through the eye exam. He was very up front about cost and how to make our budget stretch. I can't say enough great things. Both of us left excited about our new glasses and I look forward to meeting the doctor again for our yearly exam next. If you are looking for a place to get glasses/ contacts, designer eyes is the place to go. No frills, no pushing and excellent service! read more

I went to Designer Eyes with my boyfriend to get his glasses. There was only one person working in the front and his attitude was terrible. He told me that I MUST sit on a chair because I was "taking up too much space in the hallway if I stand." Due to COVID reasons, I did not feel comfortable sitting on an unsanitized chairs. There was enough space on the hallway so I didn't understand why he could not respect my decision. He proceeded to say that I was being "ridiculous." I couldn't take the attitude, stepped outside, and waited for over an hour for my boyfriend to finish his eye exam. I have never been a customer there but I will never consider being one now based on the way I was treated today. The place was also small and cramped. There is a glasses store half a block down. I think I will go there for myself next time. Absolutely terrible. I would give this place a zero star based on the service if I could. Reply to the owner: I didn't realize that you guys did not allow company. If you had clarified that only customers were allowed in, I would not have come in. Anyway, for your information, I was not blocking the door. I was at the back of the facility, standing right by the wall. I would have taken up more space if I sat down since the hallway was so narrow. I was far away from the rest of the customers, which were at the front of the facility. The only concern would be if someone walked past the hallway because the hallway was not six feet wide in the first place. If you checked your camera, you could see that I was not causing trouble for your customers. There was a customer that stood in the middle of the shop for over 30 minutes, yet the manager did not have any problem with her standing up. I understand how covid spread, that's why I didn't want to make contact with an unsanitized chair. As a business owner, I think it's funny how you guys put the blame on the customer before you really understood the situation. read more

I hate writing reviews and in fact, this is my 2nd review on Yelp ever. I'm only writing this to expressed the bad services this store offers. I've got my eye exam earlier this year for eye glass. Since I never got a phone call or email, I've waited for a few weeks and decided to stop by. When I got into the store, the girl said my insurance is not valid and didn't explain anything else. A few months later, I've stopped by again and they made a phone call to the insurance company and asked me to stopped by again. After going there a few times, it costed me money for parking and time as the store is now located in Chinatown. Manager asked me to come in and I declined and explained what happened last time over the phone. Even if there are issues on my insurance card for whatever reasons, every eye glass stores I've been to assisted me in helping me and explain the bottleneck areas. The doctors (Dr. Dat and Ming) are excellent here, but the girl Kholoe and manager Steven really frustrate me. I used to go this place back when it was at the Gallery Mall and it was super friendly and quick. Of course, back then, the doctor assisted me and help me verify things quickly. After reading some of the yelp reviews, the best way for Designer Eyes to get positive reviews is to hire a new manager as Steven is not manager material. read more

I got my eyes checked and purchased contact lenses here. I found the quality of service to be so-so. During a 5-min eye test that I was left to do, the doctor chitchatted with a friend in the same room which was very distracting. Getting my bills afterwards over the phone (since I don't live in Philly) was not too smooth of an experience either. Granted that they were in the middle of moving locations when I got my eyes tested which contributed to some of the chaos, but overall I think it could have been a much better experience. read more

We were in town on a school tour. Our hometown optometrist had made a mistake and given us the wrong contacts. Designer Eyes came through for us in 5 minutes and had a box of contacts ready to go!! I was able to run in grab the contacts from them and run out to make it back to our tour - they set everything up for me. I can't tell you how wonderful their customer service was. I don't even know why I come here anymore. I used to be able to get my glasses and contacts here quickly and without a problem, but it seems as though the new workers they hired are incompetent and don't know what they're doing. I got an eye exam in January - the optometrist is fine but the girl who actually orders my contacts for me has no idea what she's doing. They don't contact you to let you know any updates about your order and they make no effort to make sure you get what you need. She said she would email me with an update about my order but that never happened. I don't think she ever ordered them in the first place. It's April now and I still haven't gotten my contacts that were supposed to be ordered in January. This place is a joke. read more

Dr. Dat really takes his time to check up your eyes! Unfortunately, the store cannot accept some student insurances, but the prices for an eye exam for glasses is still worth it. Without insurance it's $50 and for contacts it's $80 for the eye exam. read more

I had a bad experience and can tell this place is not so good. I got an eye exam and lenses for glasses and asked them to put the new lenses in my current frames. I have a slight stigmatism, which the doctor decided to leave out in the new prescription, which made my vision bad. Went back for him to fix it and he just gave me the same thing and had no other options. I had to come back a few times for them to do it correctly and it never was done right. I wound up being forced to go to another store and everything was done right the first try elsewhere. I will say, one of the guys realized his mistake and tried to give me a free anti glare coating but he messed up my lenses so not like i could actually use them. read more

This place is a gem and it gives you that old warm friendly vibe of your doctor who run his own practice as this place is indeed. The doc very accessible, friendly, and spend lot of time examining your eyes and answering your question. It not like those doctor office where it is like a factory. He actually knows your first name and remember your issues when you call and call you back within the hour. That's a five star practice. Love this place. Chinatown best kept secret. read more

THE WORST. I've been holding back on coming here for my dad after having such heated argument with the dark skinned guy in that works there. He HUNG UP on me about 5 times while I speaking trying to explain him what was going on. I came here with my dad to get glasses, and it was a saturday. There was an insurance issue and they said they would follow up on monday and if theres any problems they would let me know. One month later because of how busy we were and to make sure the glasses were done we called them and they said, yeah theyre done come in. I come in with my dad and they said OH IT LOOKS LIKE THE PERSON WHO WAS HELPING U DIDN'T TAKE CARE OF IT. Well now it's a month and a half later and our insurance is terminated NOW WHAT? So when I spoke to them on the phone to have them talk to the insurance and get it fixed the dark skinned guy (I know specifically which guy cause I saw and heard him talking) WAS SOOO DAMNNNN RUDDDDEE. IT SUCKS that theres only 2 CHINESE OPTOMETRIST DOCTORS that you can even choose from. THEY SHOULDN'T EVEN BE IN BUSINESS. They don't take care of ANYTHING. Don't do their jobs at all!!!!!! I kid you not I call today to ask them if glasses are done by giving them my name and they said okay hold on and said yes. I said okay are u able to bill my insurance now for it since last time I had to come back and forth and she said "no you come in i don't know if these are your glasses or not." WTF HORRIBLE. Ok so I called today & asked if they had available appts. Receptionist said, "sure come at anytime." I asked for 11:30am and she responds that they start seeing clients at 1pm. Why not just say that from the start? Ok, so we scheduled for 1pm & get there at 12:59pm. The place looks old-fashioned but who cares, I'm there for an eye exam. We fill out all the forms and were asked to sit in the back & wait for our eye exam. There were 2 young ladies who came after that & must've inquired on the wait time (in their language) & not got a response they liked bc they left. We waited. By now it's 1:25 & scheduled during our lunch hour so this was relayed during the initial call when we inquired on length of exam. I ask the receptionist on wait time & she responds that the doctor is running late. The girl then says their manager has called him various times. Why not call before hand or even let us know that before making us waste our lunch time on someone who isn't even in the building. The so-called manager didn't even apologize for the inconvenience. This business just lost 3 potential customers just because of their lack of communication. read more
