Very happy with these guys. The reviews on Yelp don't lie. These guys were fast, knowledgeable and friendly. My car alarm of 8 years finally started to break down and it clearly needed some attention if it was going to continue to do its job. I pulled up and they asked if I wanted to repair it or install a new one. I said if I could repair it that would be ideal. My car isn't exactly a Lexus, and throwing another $200-$300 into it wasn't top on my priority list. Longstory short, I was in and out in 20 minutes. They diagnosed the problem and fixed the car while I was double parked out front! Very cool. Instead of dropping a few hundred I left spending only $50 including installation. This is the only auto performance place even my dad can vouch for. They used to install car alarms for his vehicle and his work vehicles also. I started shopping there in 2005 and I still do today. Crosby, Mike, and the other associates are very helpful. When I needed a bumper for my car show, Crosby looked up the price for me at 3 different places 5 minutes before they closed. That's some pretty good service. Another example was yesterday at the car show when they ran out of t-shirts, they made a special order list and I got on it. These guys know what they're talking about and have experiences on their own cars. Great service + Affordable Prices = One of the best auto performance shops in San Francisco. This place rocks. I can easily say this after going there only once too! I went in to get an alarm installed on my Acura, and they were more than helpful. Spent all the time needed to ensure I understood all my options and what not. The older guy who works there, Mike was very pleasant to work with. I don't know the other persons name, but he was very helpful as well. Prices were very good as well - honest people here. My car alarm key chain battery is dead. No problem right? Just change the battery- wait, the screw is rounded! Instead of wanting to get ripped off and going to my mechanic (at the time), I seeked help from the people of yelp, and was not disapointed. I am new to this whole reviewing thing but I was very moved to do this one. I have a Scion xB (the box) and they don't come standard with cruise control. I thought this would be SIMPLE and so I searched for a shop that will do this! I have come to find out that this is tougher than it looks, you can find the kits online but the installation part is where it gets REALLY strange. Until you run across the guys at Vision Performance they not only took the job but did GREAT WORK! I have been using it all day today with absolutely no issues (and this being CRUISE CONTROL that is exactly what you want!!!!) Kudos to Vision Performance if you need cruise control on your xB take it there! read more

Took my car here a few years back and was very disappointed with the service. Unless you have a honduh , I wouldn't take your car there. I took a short throw shifter to have installed on my Z there. They told me it wouldn't work because the short throw shifter is for a 240sx and not a Z. Hmm it seemed to work for the other 450 plus people on the forums that have done the same mod. Anyways they spent an hour or 2 trying to make it work they broke a bushing and then told me they couldn't get it to work. They charged me for 1.5 hr of labor and did nothing about the broken bushing. I took it to a shop in san bruno a week later and they installed the short throw in 20 minutes. Clearly the people at vision are incompetent. read more

I've never actually taken my car here, but I've tried twice. The first time was months ago: I knew EXACTLY what was wrong with my audio (the auxiliary cable was loose behind the stereo and just needed to be plugged back in). They wanted to charge me a full hour's work just to run a diagnostic type test, then charge me a half hour to do the work, that is, PLUG THE CABLE back in! The total would have been $120 plus fees and tax. Also, they didn't want to see me that day, or even the next, but make an appointment for a week later. I said HELL NO. I took my car to AudioLogix and they did the SAME work for $30 even. No fuss or hassle. So fast forward to today: I called in again, to see if I could bring my car in with the same problem as before (it's a loose cable and there are lots of pot holes and uneven roads in the city to jostle the cable). Again with the $80 an hour, $40 minimum, plus all the other stuff they wanted to charge me for! Even though they are closer to home and it would have been WAY more convenient for me to bring my car here, I will NEVER call this place again. MAJOR rip off. I don't care what the guy on the phone said, I've been to other shops in and out of the city, and I know what a competitive price is, and this place? THE WORST in terms of fair pricing. Swung by to pick up a 1/0 terminal and owner sold them to me for $10. No problem, cool. Then he says I can swing by and can use their crimper tool for free , great! Swing back around and the owner tries to charge me $10 for 10 minutes of work (he said it would only take him 10mins himself) and he said he hadn't ate lunch so he decided to charge me for his time. I wish communication was better but the work was great. I appreciate what they did, the issue that happened with my steering shaft and alarm was kind of out of their hands and it would be hard for me to blame them. Communication about the problem wasn't so great so I self diagnosed, took me 2 hours and now I am going to just take my car elsewhere. I called another shop when I thought the pricing for the install was too high, I originally thought I was being overcharged but even the next shop said they are good and thats a great price. Installation went ok. I wasn't terribly satisfied, but am giving imo a generous raiting. They said they had some issues with the steering remote I brought in, so had to go with their $60 remote instead. The only reason i didn't give 5 or 4 stars was that they made an 10 am appt. and didn't show until 10:20 and when I asked about also having fog lights installed they said they'd do it for free if it wasn't too hard. Sadly they didn't follow through. I assume they'd forgotten about it and forgot to install it. I would have been fine paying for it to being installed, but generally speaking it's not great telling someone you'll throw something extra and not do it. read more

My father brought in the beamer in the summer of 2009 to have an alarm system installed since I was about to bring the car down with me to college. After checking out many places around the city, Vision Performance had the best price and it was right by my house. The employee we talked with was very nice! After getting the alarm system installed, I was a very happy camper! However,a month later, after loading the car at 4am to drive down to Irvine, my car was dead and stuck in the driveway! We had triple A tow the car to our neighborhood mechanic shop. We had just taken the car for a full service the week before..and basically changed the alternator, timing belt, etc. We thought it was the battery, so after replacing it, it was working again! We also had the alarm disarmed back at Vision Performance.. We just had it installed the month prior. Okay...fast forward two months later, my car died again! I seriously had triple A jumping my car twice a month for three months until I decided to go to three or four mechanic shops and told them my situation! Got my battery changed again! Sometimes, I would just drive miles and miles just to revive the life of the battery! One month later, my car died again! At this point, I wanted to abandon the car! It was just too much of my time and I had already spent lots of $$$! After taking the car to BMW of SF, they explained that the alarm system was still connected and was eating a lot of the battery! They even asked us why we even installed the alarm in the first place when it really didn't need one. After having the alarm system removed, I never had a problem with my car again..in terms of it dying! Honestly, I agree with another yelper that this place is good if you have a japanese car. Although I had a bad year of car trouble, I still have faith in these guys that they do an amazing job I guess bmw's are a bit more complex than what they normally deal with, and it's a bit of my fault for not checking on the kinds of cars they specialize the most. I've heard from friends they they did have a good experience with this business. So, do give them a chance if you need an alarm installed, but also ask them if they know how to operate on the kind of car you have. read more

This small is shop is just OK. I came here because they quoted me a nice price on a car alarm install with remote start in my Audi. Unfortunately for me, as the install went on and on, so did the price. It took a couple of weeks of coming back for everything to be finally working as it should. There was so much back and forth with these guys that I just wanted the install to be over so I wouldn't have to come back anymore. I'm sure that if you have a Japanese car they can take car of you, but for more complicated German cars I wouldn't recommend them. read more

These guys not only stand by their work, but their word as well. After getting my clifford alarm installed for 10% off (thanks yelp!), I noticed that the trunk unlock button wasnt working, so I took the car back in. Apparently, it's an extra 20 to install that little part, but when I voiced how unfair it was that I was not told in advance about that (I would have purchased a different alarm), Crosby was nothing but patient and nice, offering to install it on the spot for free. He was totally within his rights to tell me to go fly a kite, but the fact that he cared enough about his customers to really try to fix the problem really won me over. A year later, my alarm and remote is having the occasional unlock issues, but I think it's because it's a Hyundai and like someone else on here mentioned, that may not be their field of expertise. I've had two great experiences with Vision Performance installing car stereos: 1. CD Changer in my '89 BMW 535i broke, so I figured it was time to upgrade to something that could play music from my phone. I walked in and they helped me pick out a stereo, and scheduled me for the next day for the install. Everything was done quickly, my new stereo worked great, and the prices were very reasonable. 2. After getting rid of my BMW I now have a '08 Audi A4, unfortunately it still had a the factory head unit with no aux/usb input or bluetooth. After a few months of constantly switching out CDs I decided it was time to upgrade. I went back to Vision since they had done a good job on my last car. They spent a lot of time helping me pick out a new head unit and explaining to me the various install options. They had to order some parts that weren't in stock, which they said would be here Friday. I had a road trip coming up and that weekend and really wanted my new stereo installed by then. They said that once the parts were in it should be no problem to do the install that day. They called me on Friday to let me know the parts were there, I dropped the car off in the late morning and picked the car up that afternoon. Everything worked great and they even helped me pair my iPhone with the stereo. This should be the end of this happy story, but a week later my car started having trouble starting and needed to be jumped, and driving it around didn't seem to charge the battery. I was worried that something was wrong with my stereo and it had been draining the battery, so I took it back to Vision and they happily went over everything to make sure it was installed correctly and tested my battery. They said it was probably the battery or the alternator that was the issue, but they happily disconnected the stereo just to remove it as a possibility. A couple of days with the disconnected stereo and the issue still persisted, so I decided to install a new battery in the car, and bingo! Everything is fine now. I took the car back to Vision and they reconnected the stereo no fuss no muss. They spent at least 1.5-2 hours diagnosing my car and disconnecting/reconnecting the car stereo and they never complained once, always maintained a courteous and professional attitude and didn't even charge for the extra hours of service. I would definitely recommend using them, and would go there again myself. The only downsides I would say is that parking in the area is a pain, and they don't have a huge selection of stereos (seems like they mostly carry Pioneer). read more

These guys ROCK! They installed an alarm system in my new BMW and did a fantastic job. Super clean install, they were quick, I just went up the street to get some coffee and came back. Excellent job, other installers (a big one in Pleasant Hill) didn't want to tackle my car because it was "too difficult", but that's because they didn't know what they were doing. These guys knew every detail about the alarm and explained everything so I knew what I was getting. Excellent communication skills. They're a bunch of close friends that have been working together for over a decade. And the price!! The price was so reasonable. I'm coming back for them to upgrade the audio system. You may drive by this unassuming shop and think, based on the name alone, that it's the office of an optometrist. WRONG. It houses a great group of guys who know their mechanical stuff. I had my used alarm system auto-start installed in my Jeep for $250 in about six hours. It works perfectly (so far), and I was pleased with the friendliness and service. The only caveat is that it's a small operation and only open when someone's in the store. e.g. The store hours say 10-5, but if you show up at 10, it's likely no one will be there until 10:30. This happened to us both days--dropping off the car and picking it back up--which was more than a little annoying given that we had to take off work and drive all the way to the Outer Sunset. 5 stars for the service. 3 stars for the lack of calling back and not being open when they say they're going to. A total of 3.5 stars, which I'll round up to 4 as I do like these guys. read more

Very, very happy that I came here to fix my door seal/leak. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical about this place because this was formerly Tangent and EVERYONE knows how shady those people were. But no, the guys at Vision Performance were really nice and didn't try to rip me off. I really liked how they didn't give me BS about other things that I had to fix just to get more money out of me. Honesty is the best policy!! Definitely have to thank Crosby for helping me resolve my problem. If it wasn't for him telling me to simply realign my door, I would've thought I had to replace the whole door seal and pay so much more. Good eye Crosby!. Drove by the other day in the scion box. Thought I'd share my experience getting my car modded. Vision Performance.. What can I say....The company title says it all, and paired with excellent communication and customer service. Crosby and Mike took my scion xB and turned it into a muscle wagon. They added a Trust Supercharger that wasn't compatible with the 06 xB. It was for the 03-05 model. They made it work anyway. That's how good they are. Time was also taken to camber all 4 wheels while widening the solid rear axle. Though it did take some time to do, the quality of work made up for it. The box still pulls hard nearly 6 years after install and takes turns like a sport wagon should. I'll definitely have a vision for my next car. read more

Bought a remote start on eBay that I thought would be easy to install. It wasn't. I started the job but needed someone else to finish it. I spoke with Crosby and later that day he looked at what was done so far and gave me a quote on how much it would cost to finish. The following business day I was able to drop off my car and he finished in a few hours. Definitely worth it and would come again. Solid customer service and quick work. Only drawback is the lack of parking in the neighborhood, but it's not their fault. read more

I also had an issue with my alarm system. I called the dealership and they wanted to charge me close to $500 to get me a new fob and program it but only after charging me $150 for a diagnostic. I went here to Ylep and looked for some place local. Vision came up and I called. After spending a while on the phone with me and asking a few questions, it was determined that all I needed to do was get a new key fob. I had to get this fixed asap so Vision did the research for me, found a local place for me to go get my fob. I had the instructions to program the fob and tried a bunch of times to get it to work but I had no luck. I drove the car over to Vision and within 5 minutes they had the fob programmed for me. These guys are great. They went totally out of their way to help a complete stranger and in the end just asked that I spread the word. So I'm spreading it! If you have any car needs give these guys a call. They also do service and are really chill to deal with! Great customer service! If there was a 6th star, they'd be getting it from me! read more

I bought some HIDs here yesterday for $150 out the door and they look amazing. This place is way better than that 3D audio performance shop on irving. WAY BETTER. The people here know what they're talking about and they got a better selection. Very trustworthy and have good deals. Highly recommend for performance auto items here in the Sunset Dist.
