First time visiting here for an eye exam. Dr. Ahmad I was beyond amazing. Very professional and helpful. He took his time to explain everything in detail. I will recommend him to do your eye exam. You will have an accurate prescription and you will leave with a smile in your face.

Hand sanitizer, masks, gloves, temperature check. safe, efficient, and comfortable visit. Could not be more impressed.

I came to Dr. Christopher Renner with my San Diego glasses and he found the small mistake and got me new, perfect lenses. I am so happy now when I drive. Thankfully they were able to fit me in that same day and I saw Dr. Vinh, who diagnosed my abrasion and immediately alleviated my discomfort with numbing drops and a contact lens bandage over my cornea, prescribing me antibiotic drops to take to prevent an eye infection. Long story short I leaned the very hard way that I am allergic to a specific type of antibiotic eye drop (which for the record Dr. Vinh said was quite rare) and my eye swelled up and became badly inflamed overnight, causing me to return the next day and see Dr. Perry, who took great care of me and gave me steroid drops to bring down the inflammation. A day later and my eye was as good as new, and I saw Dr. Vinh again who gave me a clean bill of health. Simply put, I could not have been in better hands than I was with NOVA Vision Center. The professionalism and care that I experienced from the receptionists to the techs to the doctors was second to none. These folks are good at what they do, they truly care about their patients, and it shows. I now look forward to making them my new eye care place in the future, hopefully next time under better circumstances! :)

For $20 extra on top of the $79 eye exam price, you can enroll in their 3-year membership that includes unlimited exams at any of their locations & a discount on products. This is great in case your vision frequently changes. They also have the best selection of affordable, stylish eyeglasses! For the price of one eyeglass frame, you can receive two pairs of eyeglasses. The lowest cost option for frames is their value style at $69.95. The eyeglass frames are actually nice looking, which is why I keep coming back. They carry a brand called Heartland that has stylish, durable frames. I hope they keep carrying that brand forever. They also offer a two lenses for the price of one deal on progressive lenses instead of the traditional bifocal lenses, which makes it a lot easier to see if you are older or are on medication that makes your vision fluctuate. Promotions are limited time and may vary, but generally, they are the only vision store in the area that has the best promotions. Other optometry stores charge $500-700 for eyeglasses, which is ridiculous! I have only paid $80-160 at America's Best depending on the type of frames and lenses I choose. They also accept some insurance plans. I looked into other places that are in-network with my insurance, but all of them tripled their prices on frames and lenses, so it was actually less expensive to continue going to America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses because their prices are way more affordable. I like the convenience of being to visit anytime for unlimited eye exams since my vision fluctuates frequently due to medications. Dr. Gregory Lin is awesome! Many years ago, he gave me a heads up on what to expect with my vision as I age. He was so right! He even gave me a prescription for lubricating eye drops, which helped a lot. Both optometrists here are super knowledgeable and patient. The new manager, Summer, is super helpful and knowledgeable as well. There was some delay with my contacts & eyeglasses because I have an unusual prescription, and she did everything she could to take care of it and make it a happy experience. I usually receive compliments on my eyeglasses, and people cannot believe I pay less for such great looking eyeglasses! Plus, my contact prescriptions can be updated with their vision club membership, which is so convenient. Get the membership! It more than pays for itself! This is the only place I will go to!

Dr. Keith James has been my optometrist for 4 years now and I honestly love him. Before Eye Smile I primarily visited big box optometry offices and there is a stark difference in the level of care and attention. They have a nice variety of quality frames to choose from. The office is always chill and the staff members are so kind. There's always a dope selection of frames to choose from. I deducted two stars because the office policies around glasses/lens refunds are ridiculous + the glasses shop inside the practice is 100% a waste of time and money. I have never had glasses and have worn contacts all my life. For various reasons, I finally had to buy my first pair of glasses. As an uneducated consumer, I had to trust the glasses salesperson to guide me in the right direction and find glasses that would work for me. What she did was pull tons of frames off of the shelves for me to try on - she didn't tell me anything about the features or try to pick out specific models that would work with my facial features. The only thing that she could tell me was the price of each frame. I ended up blindly picking a frame that didn't work for low nose bridges, so the resultant glasses were terrible. The frame constantly slipped off my nose and my vision was super fishbowl-y. There was a lot of chromatic aberration (red and blue outlines on objects) and blinding glare from oncoming cars. I thought that I would be able to return these clearly ill-fitting glasses/lenses and get my money back. NOPE - the front desk guy told me that they "don't do refunds" and the best they could do was allow me to pick a different frame and remake the lenses. When I asked him if they had frames that were specifically made for low nose bridges, his response was that I would have to try on all the frames and see what worked. Yeah, no - I'm not going to do that. If your employees don't even know what products you have, how can I trust you to be able to help me find glasses that work for me? Furthermore, the prices for glasses here are absolutely absurd. They charged my insurance $200 for frames, $140 for lenses, and $100 for some crappy Sharpview coating. I literally went to Warby Parker the next day and bought a good looking low nose bridge frame with scratch resistant, anti-reflective, and UV blocking treatment for $95! If you don't offer expertise, don't offer a premium product, AND don't offer good prices, how the hell are you going to compete with places like Warby Parker? You can't - they are going to eat your lunch and drive you out of the glasses business. I wholeheartedly recommend going to Dr Keith James as your optometrist. But do not under any circumstances buy glasses from this practice. Save your money and get better service + a better product from somewhere else.

While cataract surgery is the most common outpatient surgical procedure and it is generally…read morewell-tolerated, it is not without its risks. Your physician should discuss the nature of the procedure and its risks. While some of the risks may be mitigated by the skill of the physician, some occur irrespective of the surgeon's ability. I can tell you that as a physician, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing :-) While the procedure is pretty much considered pain free, psychologically, I had a hard time wrapping my head around having someone use a scalpel on my eye! I wound up seeing (read interviewing) several ophthalmologists prior to finally selecting Dr. Dipaolo. Medicine is founded on both Art and Science. There are some intangible characteristics that in my humble opinion come into play in the selection of a physician, whether it is for Primary Care, a Specialist, or a Surgeon. Pretty quickly during my visit and initial exam, I knew that Dr. Dipaolo was THE guy to entrust my eyes to. He is very personable, has a great sense of humor, and is attentive to detail. Part of the preparatory process of having cataract surgery is the taking of certain measurements necessary for the selection of the intraocular lens. Unlike other Opthomology offices I had been to where assistants take these measurements, he does them himself....not once....but as many times as he deems necessary to ensure accuracy. The first cataract surgery simply removed the lens requiring the patient to wear very thick glasses. The first intraocular lens was produced in 1949 by Dr. Ridley. It has evolved substantially since that time. The most common lens, the one that I selected, has a fixed focal length allowing me to see sharply at a distance but requires that I use reading glasses for reading. Presbyopia occurs in most people in their 40s as it did me. The natural lens loses its elasticity becoming more rigid and its shape can no longer change resulting in the inability to focus on near objects without reading glasses. So, I am ecstatic about being where I was at 40! Some individuals choose to have mono vision. One eye gets a distant lens ad the other gets once for close up vision. Usually, these patients have had experience with mono vision having had contacts....one for distance in one eye and one for reading in the other. The brain learns to attend to one or the other automatically. For those who want the depth of field and greater clarity of binocular vision or have never done this previously, monocular intraocular lens replacement is not a good idea. The regular lenses are covered by Medicare. There are also specialty or premium lenses that are not covered by Medicare. They cost an additional amount of money....from $3,500 to $5,500 per eye. Premium lenses come in a couple of ways. There is a multifocal lens that allows a patient to see both distant and near objects without glasses. There is a potential side effect where the patient may see halos which is the reason I elected not to go this route. A toric lens is another premium lens that may be used for patients with moderate to severe astigmatism who would normally require glasses. It has to be placed very carefully and by its nature, adds a level of complexity over that of a simple monofocal lens. I have very little astigmatism so such a lens was really not necessary for me. There is also another lens that mimics the ability of our natural lens to utilize the same muscles to change focus. My opinion about this lens having read up on it is that it is probably not particularly effective. There are also complications with this lens where it folds upon itself. When I asked Dr. DiPaolo what he thought about them, he told me that he was not impressed with them. Some ophthalmologists will push for premium lenses. Dr. DiPaolo is not one of them. If you require cataract surgery, your physician will prescribe drops for the eye that is being operated on. It is VERY important that you use these drops as directed both prior to and after surgery. One of them is an antibiotic, another is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication for both pain and inflammation, and the last one is a steroid anti-inflammatory. Speaking of pain. Prior to the surgery, you will be given eye drops that dilate the pupil as well as a topical anesthetic. The anesthetic will also be instilled during the procedure. Immediately post-op for the first eye, at most I had perhaps a little bit of irritation but no real pain to speak of. For my second eye, I did not have any pain at all. Remarkably, my eyesight was pretty clear immediately post-op. However, it is not unusual for a patient's vision to be a little blurry at first. This is due to inflammation and subsides over time. Note: If you are a male who has taken any of these drugs for BPH, please tell Dr Dipaulo: terazosin (Hytrin), doxazosin (Cardura), tamsulosin (Flomax), alfuzosin (Uroxatral), and silodosin (Rapaflo)

Went in for a glaucoma screening and general eye exam after an optometrist expressed concern after…read moremy first eye exam. Fabulous experience. Yes, there was maybe a 35 minute wait, but when I did my research it was absolutely typical of all ophthalmologists that you won't be taken in promptly at your appt time, so adjust your expectations accordingly. The flip side is I was not rushed through the appt at all, all of my questions were fully answered, and I felt I had his full attention for a generous period of time with several sophisticated screening checks. The doctor had a wonderful bedside manner and really put me at ease, which is great for someone new to this who had never had drops in the eyes. In addition to the doctor's high level of professionalism, his office administrator was exceptional. Admins are not always great in doctor's offices, but this one was such a pro that she was already processing paperwork before I'd finished my part so that everything would be ready as soon as possible. I was so impressed with her that I complimented her to the doctor, who added that she knew more about medical billing than anyone he'd ever met, including people who train this stuff for a living. I rarely write Yelp reviews, but I gather the doctor's patients are usually much older than I am so they probably aren't out there writing Yelp reviews. Hope this helps someone else in the difficult process of selecting an eye doctor. Oh one more tip...if you're going to Uber due to the eye drops, note that it's also impossible to see messages from Uber to know if the car is there and which one it is. So you might want to have someone drive you; the location is easy and it looks like they have plenty of parking.
