This place NEVER picks up the phone, have been calling for weeks about my upcoming appointment.

Terrible place. This place doesn't need to be open at all. I had to leave work at the hospital in Manhattan to come to the appt and the receptionist told me to reschedule when I got there. The front of the building looks closed, so I spent time finding the place and it was in the back of the building. This will be my first and last experience with them. read more

Unfortunately my insurance switched providers and I can no longer use America's Best. The eyeglasses in display at this location are filthy. You can barely see out of them. Meanwhile you have a least 3 employees including the supervisor scrolling on their phones while they can be Cleaning these disgusting glasses. I wish I took a photo of them so I Could post the nastiness. America's Best Gives everyone a tray. As you try on glasses you put them in a tray so they can be sanitized for the next customer. I won't use this Visionworks location again. Absolutely disgusting. Very Poor management. read more

Horrible customer service. I ordered contacts over the phone and was charged 3 separate times for a total of over $600.00. Initially I was charged $252.00 for contacts and the credit card system was down, so they tried to charge me again another $252.00 but since I had only $150.00 in my account, they were not able to charge the full amount, even though the credit card system is down.....so today I was charged another $252.00. I called them and that apparently went through, and I will be refunded by tomorrow or the next day hopefully... But honestly, it is just ridiculous if the system is down, why continuously charge my card? read more

Scheduling exams online is simple, and I have no complaints about the optometrist - but don't even THINK of obtaining hardware here. (I made that mistake because they were in my insurance network.) I ordered my glasses on the day I had the exam, and was supposed to have them in two weeks. On the day they were supposed to be ready, the online status was 'delayed.' Forget phoning the store - one only gets bots, just as with the chat. Now, yet another week has passed, and I don't know what the problem is. They are the absolute worst for hardware! I received my contacts from another source in 2 days - another pair of glasses (which I ordered online) in a week - and now I'm waiting for weeks, with nothing but a canned message that I should 'check for updates within the next 8 days.' read more

Was told I'd be checked in shortly. After fifteen minutes a second employee asked me if I'd been checked in and the first employee apologized for forgetting and said they'd had a complicated issue they'd had to resolve. The second employee checked me in and told me that I my insurance paid for an exam only once every two years. I'd made the appointment online days prior and completed the intake form. Based on that I should've been advised ahead of time that insurance wouldn't cover it. That plus the initial unnecessary wait time meant that I wasted a significant amount of time making the appointment, traveling to the location, and waiting to be processed. read more

My eye exam visit was smooth in and out, they even helped me find a better pair of glasses than I picked out. Now I've been calling them for the last week just to simply get my eyeglass prescription and the phone rings until i get the virtual agent who is no help to me who send me back to the office then I'm transferred to customer service who then tries to get in touch with the office (no luck) then to suggest i go into the office............I would of done that if it was an option of mine, then I'm told my request will be forward to a manager wait for his/her call. read more

Ordered a pair of glasses on 2/14/23 and was told they would be ready by 2/28/23. Called numerous times after 2/28/23 to check the status and was told they were pending that they would call me when they get here. Called once again was told they were shipped already and i would get a message within three days. I go online on 3/8/23 to check status and system still states its pending so I called about three times and no answer. I called morning of 3/9/23 only to hear that yes they texted me and glasses were here. I received no text. I go to pick up my glasses and they have no wipes to clean the glasses mind you my glasses were dirty when I picked them up. Made an appt here because my insurance cover the charges. Received over 6 text messages to remind me of my appt, even on my day of the appt. The day before I received a call from them, with out a name showing on the caller ID., asking for insurance information. I refused to give out my personal information over the phone and that this could wait until I arrived at the office. When I arrived, folks were very loud, customer talking on cell phone using the speaker as we could hear many conversations going on. All this going on and I was asked for my personal information that others people can hear. A customer was there to pick up her glasses after being notified by text that they were ready, but the young lady had made a mistake and she needs to reorder the glasses. As I waited, I was looking at the men's glasses and saw that every eyewear was over priced and did not show the price on the website - was this just a mistake or are customers paying full price for eyewear. The prior customer was told she had to find glasses less then $99 for her insurance and she could not pay the difference, as Aetna would not allowed, and to see the price marked on each pair of glasses. 15 min later I went to a testing room by the same person at the front desk, asked to put my chin on this device, so she can look into my eye. She did not introduce herself and was clearly not the doctor. She was not wearing a mask and I did not know if the machine was clean, but told to place my chain there at 69ys of age I was completely uncomfortable. The next machine was the TOPCON CT.80, she told me I would feel a puff of air. The machine shot air into my eye ball, that I felt was highly invasive. I complained about the used of this machine, and refused to have the other eye subject to this machine. She told me she would need to redo as I had jumped and the machine did not register the test. I told her that I am not going to subject my eyes to this invasive machine. The Doctor came in an told me that this is a must and she would loose her license if I did not complete the exam. I refused to be subject to that very invasive machine, and was given a referral to another eye doctor. Sad that they have this invasive eye machine and think people would not, object to it. Do not do business with these people, they WILL rip you off. I work for the insurance company that provides my benefits. I know exactly what is covered under by plan. This location will try to tell you that your benefits are more limited than you believe, that there are charges that aren't covered under your plan, etc. and try to confuse you to extract higher fees out of you. Drove all the way over here for my 6pm appointment for me to walk in and be told all appointments were cancelled. When I advised I didn't receive an email or a phone call to let me know appointments were cancelled a young women said she personally called everyone. As I pull up my call log not one call or missed call cancelling my appointment. In fact I only received a text message to fill out my forms for my appointment but nothing about cancelling it. I got my glasses made at the West Nyack location almost over a month ago. Since I had a bad experience, I decided to try another location to switch or get my lenses fixed. At first, it was a little confused because I bought the glasses in another State but Ebonnie took my case and she was very diligent with all the paperwork that it had to be done. Part (1 of review) Disgust, insensitivity, and blatant inconsiderateness... those are just some of the words that come to mind when I think of the experience that I had this morning from Visionworks located at 1255 Broad Street in Bloomfield NJ. Let me give you the full view of the intolerable racist ordeal my family had to endure through! I had an appointment this morning for my son at 9:20 AM. When we arrived at the location, two employees were there speaking of how glad they were to have Monday, April 19, 2021, off and giving off feelings of dreading working at the place. Another employee came in shortly after stating that she can't believe they were one of the few locations open today. I immediately thought of the ungratefulness of even having a place to work, while many struggle to get a job during the pandemic. Don't get me wrong, I am just as elated as the next to have a day off from work, but it is key to be mindful enough not to portray this as if you despise your place of employment or to say this in front of customers in this tone. I should NEVER know your personal business nor how you are anything but happy to assist me today. Meanwhile, we are about to spend money in this establishment. So after a person tells us that none of us can sit until she takes our temperature, but yet is still doing other things instead of actually taking our temperature first, finally comes to take the temperature while having us stand and wait on her. Then she gives me paperwork to fill out. Mind you I ALREADY filled out the paperwork last night through email! So after I realize it is the same thing, I have to come to her and say we did this already online. She then responds with, "Oh sometimes it doesn't show. I checked this morning and it didn't show. Let me see again, oh now it's there". Now you know like I know, that this email did NOT just come when I sent it last night. But, I let the ignorance go. While we were sitting and waiting, employees asked us if we wanted to look for glasses and we said we were going to wait. My husband and daughter had appointments the following week for eye exams there, so when my son was done, we were going to all look at the glasses together as a family. This is something that was already set up, I didn't feel the need to have to explain how we were going to go about looking at the glasses to the staff, also I didn;t see it as store policy to have to explain ourselves. So, politely, we just said not right now. Meanwhile, we go through the routine until we get to the actual doctor, the ophthalmologist, who is beyond spectacular. She is courteous, polite, humorous, pays key attention to detail, talks to my son, looks at him directly when she speaks, very professional. She even apologized for chatting too much with the patient prior to us and said that she had to make sure to get to us because we had been waiting. I'm thinking to myself, I want my ENTIRE family to see this specific doctor!!! She is exceptional! Little do I know, when I come out of the doctor's office, my husband and daughter are waiting outside the business. I'm wondering what is going on?! My husband tells me that one of the employees approached him and said that it is getting busy inside so him and my daughter have to wait outside! I'm like WHAT! Meanwhile, we are the ONLY BLACK INDIVIDUALS patronizing the business. The other black individuals were the disgruntled employees mentioned prior. So this person, as I would later find out named NANCY, came and targeted my family, that were going to pick out glasses once my son's exam was over, and asked them to leave while everyone else could stay. Then, some white people were allowed to sit, people that came AFTER them, while my family had to go OUTSIDE the business and wait! I asked the other employees why my family had to wait outside and other people were sitting down. The only thing they could offer me was that they weren't the ones that asked them to leave. I asked what the ladies name that asked them to leave was, and she proudly, boastfully, stated NANCY, and that it is store policy. She did NOT show me nor tell me where in the store policy did it say that after a set amount of minutes of waiting for an individual that is getting an exam, and you yourself are also purchasing glasses, not for 1 person, but for 4 people, that you have to wait outside! She didn't show me where you had to give up your seat for other people, and in our case in particular, you as a black family have to give up your seat for a white family and go outside! NO WHERE DID SHE SHOW ME THIS!!!! We were there since 9:20 AM and it was now 10:10, we were there first before the other people but my family had to wait outside, not the people that were just coming because it was too busy. NANCY said this was store policy but did not state this to us when we walked in the door that if it got busy we would have to leave and give up our seats to other people that were just coming in.. read more

Last Monday, April 29, 2019 I visited the Vision Works store in Bloomfield to have an eye exam and buy a pair of new glasses. Although the store was somewhat busy and I waited for about 1/2 hour to be served, everything went well and I was very impressed. From the pre-exam eye examination, to the doctor and then being fitted for glasses by Nancy everything went smoothly and effortlessly. Nancy is an outstanding eye glass technician and is indeed an asset to the Vision Works brand. She researched my insurance and worked with me until I found just the right fit in new glasses. I received an email on Friday, May 1, 2019 that my glasses were ready, picked them up on Monday and am very pleased. I definitely recommend Vision Works in Bloomfield, NJ and will make them my "go-to" place for glasses! read more

I was asked to come for a follow up appointment for my contacts prescription and when I arrived at the time of my appointment the doctor was not there. The rest of the staff was helpful and kind but withthe doctor not being available at the time of a pre booked appointment. It was a wasted trip for me. Will b r be coming back here. read more

It looks like I'm the first one who has anything positive to say about this place. I've been coming here for several years now, even when it was Eye DrX before it became VisionWorks. I've never had the issues the other reviewers are describing. I've never had a problem getting an appointment. I find the staff to be helpful and pleasant. I've always been in and out in less than an hour and my contacts have either been provided on the same day as my appointment or were otherwise available for pick up within the same week. I think my only ding is on the eyeglass selection. Given their name, and the amount of space they have to work with, they really should have a larger inventory. read more

I guess this is my first and last time here. I spent a lot of money for sunglasses and regular glasses. I got an e-mail saying my order was ready. I go over and only got the sunglasses. The woman said that something went wrong with the other pair and they had to send it back. Would have been nice to know...... she said don't worry we will call you.... Visionworks on Route 17 was the absolute worst place I've ever dealt with. No greeting, waited 5 minutes before they acknowledged me. I went there because they took my insurance. When I called on the phone a week later to see if I could come pick them up, very rude on the phone. I go there and put the glasses on and it's like looking through bottles + a dirty window. I tell them I cannot see, He takes the glasses in the back. Calls another guy in the back. They come out 10 minutes later and tell me that the glasses are fine, but the prescription that my specialist wrote is wrong, because it can't be the glasses. The fellow tells me to come back so his doctor can see me. I say just the eyechart for distance? He says just the eyechart for distance. When I come back for the THIRD time they tell me I have to get a full exam. I just had a full exam with my specialist less that 2 weeks ago. So, I get a full refund because so far nothing they have said or done has corrected the situation. I go to Lenscrafters with the same prescription and the glasses are perfect! read more

I only go here because it is super conveniently located to me. I switched contacts to try something different when I didn't like using those contacts after 3 months they wanted to charge me a $50 fitting fee to go back to my old contacts that I had been using for decades. Listen... in the matter of 2 weeks I visited 2 Visionworks Optics. Got my exam in Bayonne, very thorough and completely covered by insurance. But as I'm picky about frames and saw something I liked, you know... Aida recommended Bloomfield with a greater selection. My pal lives next to that town so went to visit. Great selection of frames, comp to Warby $. Picked out 2 pair, reg and sun, within minutes (friend made it easier). When i went to pick up brought a book after reading reviews! Barely needed the tome. A 7 minute wait to pick them up. 2 for 1 a real deal, nice people. Congrats. I'll see you next year. read more

Very busy all the time staff is very friendly. I just wished that they had a better selection on eyewear. But my Insurance covers vision works. So that's the reason why I have to stay in my network . But overall it works for me. And they do have Saturday appointments if you cannot make a week day appt . read more

I visited this location 4 times within a month and every single visit was just cringy. My first time coming in was to get clarification on what I could get based on my insurance. I was never even acknowledged entering the store. I ended up leaving after about ten minutes and just called my insurance company. The second visit was for a scheduled eye exam which I made online because they NEVER answer the phone. I waited for over an hour. They were clearly overbooked. The third visit was to pick out my glasses, which everyone seemed annoyed to even have to assist with anything. The fourth visit was to just pick my glasses up. As soon as I walked in I could feel the immediate vibe of feeling like a nuisance as one of the woman just walked away from the counter so she didn't even have to help. No hello or anything just looked at me and walked away. A gentlemen ended up helping me. It didn't even want to stay long enough to get my glasses measured on my face because I felt that uncomfortable. Now the common denominator in all the visits was one young lady. She's light skin with dreads, I am not sure her name, but her attitude every time I came into the store was just terrible. Even watching her with other customers. She comes off as very impatient, unwelcoming, and not genuine. It just always seems like she's having a bad day even early in the morning. She clearly doesn't like her job. Seeing the previous reviews I can see how someone might be a little skeptical coming here, however, I decided to give a try and had a very positive and great experience. I came early in the afternoon (11AM) during a week day and was seen within 20 mins. The staff made me laugh as I went through the visual pre-tests. Afterwards, I asked for advice and Ebony chimed in about affordability for eye glasses - she was very transparent and friendly. Overall, the staff was very straight-forward, transparent and honest! I called to see if my contact were there and I was rudely interrupted by Olga, as I tried to give her the reason for my call. I was there a couple of months ago to pick up my contacts, only to learn that the wrong prescription was ordered. As a person whom takes care of patients daily, here's a tip: Please let people finish speaking before interrupting them. This place isnt bad to go to when you need an eye exam and glasses. I came last week and though 15 min late, I was seen immediately for my appt. Before I saw the doctor a nervous staff member had me do some preliminary tests. She whiped all the machines down with alcohol, which was good. But she had me jump from machine to machine without telling me the purpose and intent. I had to ask. Finally I saw the doctor. A very pleasant woman who takes the time to listen. She wasn't pushy when suggesting that I get professionally made reading glasses. So I ordered a pair. Yesterday I picked up the glasses. I had to ask the representative for something to read. I feel like the prescription in the glasses are not large enough in the lens. She said I will get use to them im going to give it a week. If not, I want my $ back. Why do I have to put a document parallel to my chin to read it? Also I spent $270. Why didnt I get a bag, a lens cloth and/or some spray. The standard glasses case was plastic and boring. Awful place. They have a ton of people working here and they're all incompetent. I drove an hour through traffic to get here after having called and they told me my glasses would be ready. I get here and of course they can't find them anywhere because they weren't ready. GM was conveniently on vacation so I couldn't talk to anyone who could do something about it. Horrible customer service, no one cared that I had to sit here for an hour waiting for them to be ready. Don't say they're ready if they're not. This place is a scam. The price of the exam doesn't include a contact fitting, whatever that even is. The doctor didn't listen, had me try new contacts and made me come back to look at them. They didn't work but I still couldn't get a prescription until they saw me with lenses I've been using, which they would have needed to order. Complete waste of time and money, I'm returning to my old doctor where I used to live. Avoid this place. read more
